FFalcon 55" 55UF2 Ultra HD HDR Smart TV

    50Hz Refresh Rate

    • I prefer the HHolden

      • +1

        You mean CCommodore

        • -1

          Nope. KKingswood

Leave your money on the fridge…….

  • I wonder how bad they realy are. Especially the new line U63, which seems to have solved some issues from previous lines. So many people saying it breaks after 1 year. I'm looking at the 50" model for $359

    • They're not suitable for use as a PC monitor - however they looked ok for media usage. The main downfall of these are the crap software but that is easily fixed with a Chromecast or the likes

I don't believe the integrated speakers were great either but that is not really a surprise

      • I don't game. And if I eventually game on it, it will be single player. I'd use for work and movies. I don't use smart tv features

        • It'll probably be fine then. I have a similarly crippled tv and for a while I played movies through a laptop and it was ok, but a Google TV unit of some sort is a lot more convenient

      • Do you know any budget tv's that are suitable for use as a pc monitor? I'm currently in the middle of building a second pc to use as a pseudo console that I wanna game on a TV, I just haven't bought a TV actually ever lol.

  • Any worse than TCL?

    • Budget brand of TCL according to the other thread.

    • +5

      Nothing wrong with TCL

        • No it's not.

I've had the UF1 55inch since May 2020 and couldn't be happier. It's our only tv and it's in our lounge room. We probably watch it 3 hours a day.

Excellent screen quality (the best of the budget options at the time we bought it) and decent sound. As others said the downfall is the software. Once you turn off Freeview Hbb tv it's usable. We've got a google Chromecast and it's great.

    100% would buy again.

My Sony's software sucks. So I wouldn't feel too bad.

  • Do you reckon the 43" could make a descent external monitor for work purpose?

    • +4

No. Unless they changed the panels, they have a really odd subpixel layout and it looks shit for monitor usage

If you want a budget 4k monitor, consider the EKO 50" - that one has a standard BGR layout and looks good, I sit in front of one for around 5 hours a day

Edit: I checked the UF2 but if anyone has tested the 2023 model then I'd appreciate some more info. I suspect it's still a weird BGRW panel or something

      • Thanks the thorough answer :)

      • Also looking for 40-43" for work. Is this a good option?

        • No, every single 43" tv I've tried had a shit subpixel layout. Eko 50" is your best bet. It's a bit tricky to enable PC mode on webos though

          • @stephendt: Just read on product review, the reviews are pretty bad

  • This or Hisense?

    • From a value perspective, probably this. Depends on the Hisense and what sort of image quality you're looking for

  • +1

i see people still dont understand 50hz/60hz on these or any TVs…. 50hz model can do 60hz. They just label it as 50hz because that is the voltage standard for said device. Source = i have 2 of these, they output my PS5 at 4K 60

    • +1

yeah they just read whatever is inside the JB specs section. 50 just matches Australian electricity.

  • These go ok, one of the mid tier Hisense I've had for the same time has a backlight zone out and the Falcon still going strong.

I have had weird issues on the Falcon occasionally where it fails to boot and the panel is lit up but just black, needs a full power off and on from the wall to restore it as the remote is unresponsive along with any buttons on the set.. It's not every time but it's been enough that I'd have regretted hanging it on the wall where it would be more difficult to do.

  • I returned the FFALCON 55" UF2 after a few weeks because it was the most frustrating TV I’ve ever had the displeasure of owning.

It needed to be rebooted multiple times a day because the underpowered processor struggled to run the horrible Linux software, often freezing at boot up so it would take 10 minutes of fapping around with the bloody thing just to turn it on.

It was terribly unresponsive to the remote, taking between 3-30+ seconds to register a button press (if it didn’t crash), and had serious backlight dimming issues which could not be resolved by changing the settings (even those in the secret technicians menu) or by updating the software.

Of course I used it with a Chromecast with Google TV, which helped avoid many of the issues, but the backlight dimming/pumping just ruined any content being watched.

I can’t comment on the newer models, and perhaps mine was a particularly bad unit, but I recommend staying well away from the UF2 if you value your time or want watching TV to be a relaxing and pleasant experience.

  • Damn the FFALCON 55" UF2 4K UHDis sold out in Perth :( was looking for a cheap smart TV for my auntie.

    • +1

the U63 is $50 more and seems to be rated higher, but I cant find a real review of it anywhere

      • Yeah looking to buy that one now. I just went down to the Raine Square Coles and picked up 4 x $100 Ultimate gift cards.
Trying to see if i can buy online with multiple gift cards!

        • If you run into problems you can also try good guys, it's the same price with code FRENZY23

  • Picked up my 55" u63 and wall mounted today in spare bedroom. Impressed with the price. Nice and thin. Quality ok for the price, no issues so far. Remote is easy to use for kids or old people.
Keen for any advice on tuning the quality settings, plenty of options.
