    who would buy this

Someone who wants a small Wireless Backlit Mini Keyboard & Touchpad at a good price?

      • +1

It’s not even that great of a price for something like this. These are super unpleasant to use if you have even used something like this or even similar

        • +2

          These are BRILLIANT.
          I have 3.

One in the bedroom to type things out on the TVs search bar.
One in the lounge for the same reason.
And one in the car for changing tracks on my carputer.

Anyone who's still using their remote to type on a smart TV is a pleb :p

          • @MasterScythe: @MasterScythe I'd love to hear more about this "carputer" if possible.

            • @adinico: It's like a Femputer, but car based.

            • @adinico: I used to have a full ITX system 'back in the day'.

These days It's based on a Raspberry Pi Zero W.
It's set to automatically pair to my head unit via bluetooth
It has a big MicroSD in it, onto which I transcoded my Flac library into 160Kbps OGG (The car isn't an ideal listening environment; and it's better than MP3 to my ears).

It plays via qMMp; which I specifically chose because it impliments Winamps style of 'jump to' menu using global hotkeys.

So at any time I can press my hotkey; type any of the song name at all, and press enter, and it plays.
              All headlessly.

      • Awesome little keyboards. I use one on a cheap little android TV box. When I go back to the Fetch box in the living room I cry at how lousy it is to use an on screen keyboard.

i bought 1 like these about 7 years ago (except mine isn't backlit), had to replace the battery on it once as it started to inflate.

I love this keyboard, i use it so often. Easy to pack away in a drawer, I mostly use it whenever i need to test, diagnose, or reformat a pc. I also have a number of PC's that don't usually have a keyboard connected up to it (like a steam machine, server, raspberry pi's, and mame machine). Whenever i need to do tinkering with any of these i just plug in this wireless usb stick and tinker away with this keyboard.

For anybody tech savy that fixes their own computers, i highly recommend getting one of these.

      • I guess if it works for you it works, maybe i just don’t get it lol

        • It's a unique use case. But if you fit that use case it will be a life saver for you.

The size also makes it so you can easily pack it away in your back when going to a job or anything.

          • @whitepuma: True, valid use cases but the buttons looks horrible on there like your gonna be typing on a calculator

            • @JXXY1337: bro, just write your memoirs on a real keyboard?

            • @JXXY1337: For the use case the buttons don't matter.

Your not typing an essay or commenting on ozbargain with it.

All your doing is using it to hit the function keys, enter a username/password, add/remove a program, or the odd short typing here and there.

      • yep, i have one of these for mame cab

    • I did, but i got it for ~$6

I was investigating it as a diagnostic tool. A portable keyboard/mouse solution with lights and a built in battery

  • +1

I use this to input terminal commands into my Raspberry Pi every once in a while, which is all I use it for.

Just a few notes about it's usability and ergonomics — the touchpad is tiny, jittery and imprecise, so you'll definitely experience some frustration using it for extended periods of time in a desktop Windows or Linux UI. Might be okay if you're using an OS that has big buttons and text (like Android TV or something)

Keyboard layout is ortholinear (meaning all the keys are in a square grid) so that will throw you off if you're not used to the layout, then again you are just hitting the keys with your thumb so touch typing will not be possible anyway.

    • The big question is what do you use your Pi for?

  • One of these is in my kit bag for many things, including a quick keyboard on a foreign system i prefer not having a massive 2nd keyboard on my desk for when fixing others systems, and my fave…. logging into DVR's around the properties im asked to maintain security systems, far better to use one of these than a plugged in mouse on a virtual keyboard, as some of DVR's virtual keyboards are glitchy and can enter multiple characters….most DVR's also have a lockout for incorrect passwords, so these make the job easier.

Note: You will almost always have to edit the keymapping (for the Enter key) on the Android TV Box if you use one of these with it….its not hard, google will get you instructions

    • +1

You're so right about these being good for a DVR. Most often I'm up high poking around a data cabinet with a lack of room or flat surfaces for a keyboard and mouse.

      • These are my secret top tip for DVR's for sure….i got tired of account password lockouts on them (while driving a mouse on a book or box ive hunted down to act as a flat surface) and bought one of these for myself and mate who also has to deal with them.

  • Can this be used with chrome cast with google tv?

  • +1

I see this one in their US$1.99 delivered thing for about 4 to 5 aud. I see the white backlit ones for $4.50 but i remember seeing the rgb ones a while ago.

    • They have two types
The more expensive one comes with lithium Nokia b5c battery

  • I have one of these but now I want a good quality / premium level version. Any suggestions?

Riitek were the original manufacturers of these with plenty of copies afterwards. The Rii i4 is their latest model.
