  • This is the S770 compared to the other deal which is the S880

  • S770 is better as it has DRAM cache.

    • Lower number = better? Seems strange but true.

  • Is this TLC or QLC?

  • +1

    TLC

Buying one, I have bought 4 SSDs this week alone :-/
2 of the firecuda, 1 Lexar NM790 and this

This will be my new primary drive on my PC, the 2 firecudas are the new secondary drives and the NM790 for my windows laptop…

  • At this price, can't fault this drive at all.

  • Anyone had this in their ps5, thoughts?

    • +1

No but i've had one of these in a 1u box that i use for my USENET cach and download drive..so far's had 310Tb written to it with no issues

    • +1

I have the 2TB variant in my PS5 and so far it works a treat. I also have another 2TB in my SO's pc as a steam library/video editing scratch drive and also so far no issues. Could be just luck though, Fanxiang have hit and miss QA/QC in the past so YMMV; with that said they are an OEM manufacturer for other ssd brands including some Kioxia enterprise ssds.

      • Thanks, i decided to go with this. I was tempted on the lexar nm790 but i was being stubborn on price. Then remembered i had $250 in gift cards to use. We'll see.

let me insert some fanxiang into your slot…

Good review of the 2TB version up on Serve The Home: https://www.servethehome.com/fanxiang-s770-2tb-pcie-gen4-ssd…

Not sure I'd 100% trust it for anything vital, but in a gaming rig or as a cache/temp drive, it's a bargain.

This one uses InnoGrit controller, has DRAM and could be using the previous gen YMTC 128-layer NAND.

    Might have old data issue:

  • Is this overkill for a PC Steam library? Are there better 4TB options?

    • It's kinda overkill but it's also cheap. Go for it

    • +1

      yeha honestly,get a lexar 790m

      local warranty then

Games wont use more than 500mbit on average anyway apart from few outliers like Spiderman and rathcet

    • I have my steam library on NAS over 1 Gbps, so for gaming it would be more than enough

  • +1

This or lexar nm790? Also do you guys think this would fit in a laptop

    • this has dram, so this one would be better as a boot drive, you can remove the heatsink to make it fit in a laptop

      • Thank you, so tempting just not sure about this brand

      • is it single sided? Many laptops won't fit a double sided SSD.
according to the OP the thickness is 0.09" = 2.3mm which means it's single sided.

        • Double sided according to techpowerup

    • Ideally, the controller and RAM from this one, but the NAND chips from NM790, and preferably from a maker who offers proper firmware updates.

      • Which means lexar is better?

        • Try finding the app / utility to check whether a new firmware is available for Lexar NM790. If you found it, let me know.

The reality is that if this price is possible with an SSD with a better controller, DRAM (pity the old YMTC NAND chips) then the recent price rise of NM790 isn't good for consumers.

  • Performance always looks good. But Quality will always be the let down. Keep reading reviews to keep yourself informed.

  • PS5?

    • Yes it should be perfect for the PS5 since heatsink is included.

  • Just realized can't buy this need to be ebay plus :(

    • Why can't you just sign up to ebay plus free 30 day trial?. Or if already used it the $4.99 for a month and then cancel the subscription after.

    • TOPH20 for the non-ebay plus peasants

This has the faulty InnoGrit IG5236 controller with YTMC 128L, which is known to cause data loss in months. Do not buy.

I want to buy until I saw your comment..
