I have these (and also several of the later versions as well). Only thing to watch out for is that they're pretty big - both the case and the actual earbuds are much larger than the XM4 and XM5, but the sound quality of these are really great. $100 is absolutely a steal.

    • Do you mind sharing the bore/nozzle diameter/width for the XM3? Just wondering if they are narrow like the Shure and Westones. I have tiny ear canals 😭

These don't go deep into your ear canals like Shure or Westone IEMs do. These just sit outside and barely make a seal.

        • Oh right. Are the nozzle's narrow though? I assume they need to go in a little at least to stay in place..?

        • Is that for everyone? I thought maybe it was just me, and that's why the ANC appears to do absolutely nothing.
If you turn it on, is background noise reduced ?

    ear wax included ?

    • Only with eBay Plus LOL

  • I’m not much of an ear bud guy, find it hard to find ones that fit, and a lifetime of ear problems I’m semi hesitant to jam them in my ears.

XM4 from what I read and saw on YT that model had lots of problems, more research I read on a forum and a YT video and Sony weren’t giving good warranty service. There were some pics of Li-Ion batteries that look like they had exploded!

This is the XM4 buds, not XM3 buds.

It was something to do with a firmware issue charging the batteries at the wrong voltage - that’s all I can recall. Do your own research.

I stress that were the XM4 buds but no excuse for firmware update causing the batteries to explode maybe it’s isolated, the the info I found said it was due to shortage of parts during the silicon shortage during COVID years, only affects some serial numbers.

There should have been a recall if Sony knew the serial numbers from XXXX to YYYY if there was any chance there could have been catastrophic failure.

I’m sure the XM3 buds are absolutely no problem.

      Big reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SonyHeadphones/comments/x7mx2n/wf10…

Now starting to think I should have just replaced the battery in my xm3 instead of getting the 4!

Thanks @incipient for doing the in depth research! Or at least pointing to something more solid than what I had posted. Sony still let their customers down by not recalling every single model and ensure they were not prone to this issue.

Just discovered the XM3 buds won a lot of people over in 2019 and 2020 but all are pointing at the newer model if you can afford it.

These have no apt X or LDAC. That was what I was hoping for but I kick myself every day for selling my XM3 headphones. The XM4 and XM5 each are incrementally better but LDAC only. APT X have a low bandwidth as well as HD codec but it’s like I wrote about, BT doesn’t have the bandwidth, to do proper lossless and apt X might be better for Android phone users- the lag with iOS on my Sony cans is double or triple some other at half the price.

They have finally launched the XM5 buds but I already have XM4 and XM5 cans and the XM5 cans like the XM4 cans suffer from too much base. The connect app on iOS needs a good clean up and update.

I have to see whether these fit my ears. I find it hard to get buds that will fit to block out noise for the ANC to be effective while walking or working out. Headphones get sweaty, and I look around and it’s AirPods everywhere I look.

Apple have brainwashed people - though the AirPods Pro Gen 1 I have tried, the smallest ear rings fit, it’s just the price.

Since you cannot change the battery Apple have shot their greenwashing dead on the Aipods Pro. Lots of Gen 2 lightning connector versions being dumped because supposedly the USB-C have something extra in them that may just connect using their Ultra Wideband chip which is lots more bandwidth than BT.

        Sorry got sidetracked again.

  • i had these for a while and i liked them, the noise cancelling was excellent and sound was good, but they eventually died on me after a year or two (cant remember how long exactly) i'd say for this price they're well worth it, but they are really bulky in your ears

For me, buying refurb ear buds is up there with buying second hand undies.

This may be fine for the majority, but it's a hard pass for me.

  • Still using mine, going strong after i don't know how many years. Great sound quality and noise cancelling.

  • My Wf-1000XM3 the buds. suddenly have very poor battery life.

    Anyone else?
