It isn't that bad, is it?
From my perspective, a 27" 1080p Screen with a 3 year warranty (with the Google Assistant and Smart Apps compatibility) for $149 isn't bad at all…. Of course it's not amazing specs but I doubt you would find a 4K 27" (or above) within a $150 price range.

      Can't expect 4K for $149

      • +3

        Its quite good.

27" is that crossover point where 40% of my clients find 1080p too low, and 60% are happy with it.

If youre just gaming, its pretty good. For lots of font or photo work, ymmv.

        • +5

Depends on a number of factors, use case, how far you sit from the display and what are used to viewing.
I use a QHD 27" monitor and think that's the sweet spot. 4K would be overkill but 1080p is a bit rough.

          • +3

@FireRunner: I don't think 4K is overkill at 27". I can tell a clear difference between QHD from a normal viewing distance, especially for text.

            • @Could Be Better: What's "overkill" depends on the application and user.
If you're using the monitor for something that benefits from having really high DPI, or doesn't misbehave severely when scaled at 125-175%, you could be OK, but be wary of text. To show what can happen with that anecdotally, I requested a 4k monitor from my employer and they provided me a 27" model which (although the cheapest option), having basically the same one at home in a 32" I figured this would be fine. At work however we use a frontend which runs in a VM over RDP, where any possible option to adjust the resolution/scaling internally has been disabled. And clearly no one thought the system would ever be used on anything bigger than a 20"~24" 1080p/1200p screen, because this leaves you to pick between GPU-based integer scaling, Non-integer scaling, or having no scaling at all; resulting in hueg text, blurry text, or itty-bitty text respectively, any of which is a perfectly good way to kill your eyes by staring at them all day.

27" smart tv monitor without a tv tuner.

Really up to you how you choose to spend your money but you can buy a 3 to 5 year old Hisence/sony/sammy 55 inch 4k TV between $100 to $200 on marketplace if your patient.

If you want a monitor for productivity, i would recommend a 32inch (or ultrawide) but 29" ultrawide as a minimum. If you want smart features, a chromecast or amazon tv should do the trick.

          • @easternculture: 4k 55” Sony for $200..?

            • @0jay: Yep. Sydney Northern suburbs aka rich suburbs.
              I saw a sony 70" 4k go for $250 and a 2019 55" LG OLED sell for $300

40% of my clients find 1080p too low, and 60% are happy with it.

Did you do a formal study or are you just throwing numbers . Also depends on the client, profession, age, etc. Many factors to consider.

          • +1

@easternculture: Sorry but that question seems silly; who would you even get to peer review a formal study?

No, it's a totally informal study based on my invoice records after customers have demo'd both.

            • -3

              @MasterScythe: Not silly.
You are saying 60% are happy with 1080p.

Your customers could be elderly or teenagers that dont care about picture quality and just want a big monitor.

I know that 90% of my freinds in my age group prefer 4k monitors

              • +3

@easternculture: Of course they could be; they could also not be.
The only question you asked though was if I ran a formal study, and I thought that was silly, because no, I'm not going to register a study and find a peer reviewer over nothing but peoples opinion. Who would even fund such a study?

You've moved the goal with your statement also; you're talking about preference, where the rest of us are discussing general satisfaction.

                Now you have me curious;
Why do 10% of your friends dislike 4K monitors? How many friends do you have in your survey? Why did you take such a survey?

      • +2

        You don't want 4k at 27, you want 1440p.

      • Sadly only 60Hz.. with $50 more you can get 144Hz

        I bought my Philips 272M8 27" Full HD 1ms 144Hz IPS at $195 2 years ago

    • +2

Take your meds and go back to bed

    • +1

It's not so much the 1080p that's 🤮, but rather the size. 1080P is great up to 24".

    • +1

      Perfect monitor for displaying CCTV

    • Lol, it's a 1050p display. Read the product description.

This monitor has a 27" 1050p HD display

  • +2

Doesn't seem like good value for 1080p 60Hz VA.
I'd want at least IPS for this price

    • +4

      Good luck.

      • +7

        Here's a 100Hz IPS for $99
It is 25" instead of 27" but I think that's a plus for pixel density

        • -5

          Pccasegear lol

This is more a bedroom TV type device than a monitor. The value equation isnt that simple.

Anyway i wouldnt buy jack shit from pccasegear.

          • @plmko: Centrecom has it for the same price
You can definitely do better than this for $150. See MHLoppy's comment below for other 27" IPS under $150

            • +1

              @FireRunner: Thank you.
A good mate was still on a 22" dell TN.

Since he hadnt demo'd a 1080p 27 he was hesitating, and the usual 23.8" felt like a very small upgrade.

That 24.5 you linked will be ideal!
Next weeks gaming night will be fun :)

          • +2

@plmko: Not sure what's wrong with PCCG, I've bought plenty parts from them with no issues.

But you are right, there are many people who will find the TV remote and built-in streaming services as a useful feature over more performant options in the same price category.

            • +2

@hjcoggan: Ah, didn't realise this was a "smart monitor". I think that should be added to the title.
Definitely puts it in a different category. If you're after those features then it might be an ok deal.
But if you're just after a monitor then you can do much better

All 27", all IPS, and all three can do >60Hz. [note: these are not recommendations, just evidence of what's available]

        • -1

All 27", all IPS, and all three can do >60Hz.

And all three are just monitors. Not "smart" monitors" like this product.

Though I have to admit I can't understand how you use the applications that are what makes it smart. Does it have wifi or a LAN connection to connect to the internet? Does it include some sort of storage? Can you plug a keyboard and mouse into it? None of these seem to be referred to in the specs. Just that its smart and has built-in apps.

          • @GordonD: At time of posting, it was not noted on the posts or comments that it was a "smart" monitor (and I assumed that it would be noted in the title/description if that was the case), but yes you are correct in that they're not comparable products with that knowledge.

Here's a 27in IPS for slightly more that I've bought a couple of, I've got 1 as a secondary monitor and another is used an occasional office PC screen. I wouldn't want to stare at it for hours on end at a short distance, but they work great for the money in my opinion.

  • +1

What a not too expensive monitor with USB-c that worth buying that I can mount to a bracket?

  • +2

27" is the largest I would go at 1080p resolution. The real crime is FHD on 32" monitors.

  • QHD for 24"-25" and 4K for 27"+ in my opinion, if you're doing work. For media, 1080p is good enough.

    • Agreed. Wish more manufacturers would do 24" at 1440p or even 4K.

      • Samsung S60U 24" QHD is a really good option. Fluctuates between $280 and $400 if you have access to Samsung EPP portal.

  • -3

Yeah its not bad, my gf wanted 27" so i had to give it to her 27 times 🙃

    • -5

      So your 1" x 27 times

I only had to give it to her 2.7 times

      • +1

        Ok Shaq

  • not a bad price

  • No smart tuner with netflix

  • 1080p monitor in 2023 LUL same prince as 3 years ago

Samsung has time freeze technology guys

  • Can someone please advice what else do I need if I want to connect/extend my laptop screen to 2 monitors? My laptop have only USB ports and 1 HDMI port. Each monitor has one HDMI and one VGA port. Thank you.
Maybe there's some connector that can do the job?
Don't really want an expensive docking station unless there's huge benefits having docking station.

    • +1

Ita rare fot laptops to have more than 1 monitor out.

      Docking station.

You dont need an expensive one, any with 2 monitor outputs will do.

Wjen youre novice, i recommend office works since you can swap/upgrade if you choose the wrong one.

  • +2

    this monitor is like
    $50 - $75 tier, 27" 1080p60 VA panel
if you want the smart TV features you want the smart TV features I guess.
