So you bought it 4 years ago and never recharge it, expecting it still holding enough power to recharge a car? Did you read the manual provided?

      • -7

        Won't hold a charge

        • +6

Unfortunately unless batteries are discharged and recharged regularly they die… it’s simple chemistry. That being said I bought one of these 5 years ago and it’s still going strong.
I use it to help anyone I see in need who needs a jump start and use it to change devices when camping.
          Highly recommend

          • @Dauphin: Oh yeah, I knew I was rolling the dice. I didn't care if the battery degraded a little, it's hardly expensive.

I rolled the dose hoping that - as a relatively modern lithium polymer battery - it could take a bit more of a beating. Nope 😅

            • +6

@bboT: But 4 years without even touching it is a bit of a stretch. Unlike lead acid battery that may be revived with reduced capacity. Once a lithium is gone it’s gone for good.

        • +2

I can see you have been a OzBargain member since 2016, then you should have known and owned some Sanyo/Panasonic Eneloops rechargeable batteries. Even if they are low self-discharge batteries they can still become almost flat after a year, and you letting a lithium battery sitting there for 4 years?! Come on man, you better hand your OzBargain membership back XD

          • @edfoo: Sheesh yup. Gotta make up for this. Maybe I'll go invest in a BMW.

            • +1

@bboT: Tesla mate. It's a high yield investment XD

      • +2

There is a pretty easy fix for these.
Follow the instructions from this link under my name and it will come back to life.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707962

        • Thanks mate!
You clearly have more faith in my abilities than the rest of the ozbargainers in this thread 😛

    • +4

you have to charge it, goober. You think batteries last for eternity?

      • -6

        Won't hold a charge

        • BEcause you let it die. Read the manual before or after you buy an electrical device.

          • -1

@Hydralyte: Would still expect it to survive being empty once.

Obviously I'm not claiming to be the paragon of electrical maintenance. It was a cheap backup option that I still haven't personally needed to use for over 4 years.

            • +4

@bboT: Lithium / lead acid batteries once discharged below thier minimum threshold will be permanently dead. You need to keep it charged all the time. There will be instructions on how frequently you should refresh charge these if not in use.

            • @bboT: Didn't you read the instructions? Pretty sure it says to charge it once every three months at the very least.

              • -1

@adrianhughes1998: Every 3 months yup. Found the manual online,
                https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0579/7062/2660/files/GP200…
Not sure where my physical copy got to.

I'm sure it's probably that being in the heat of ana car trunk may not have helped.

Tl;dr I spent $99 to confirm that these products are not overengineered. You're welcome.

                • @bboT: I know cos I have the same model for a few years now.

Honestly I charge it every so often, but with anything it's a crapshoot. It's either working on the day the car battery is dead, or not. Mines where the spare tyre is to try and avoid heat.

                • +2

@bboT: Unfortunately overengineering wouldn't have helped. The battery chemistry self discharges over time. If left too long, irreversible changes happen in the cell chemistry that mean charging it won't work, or can be dangerous. No matter how overengineered, you still need to periodically charge it.

It not holding a charge anymore is because the power bank BMS knows the battery was left to self discharge too long, and purposefully won't charge it. An underengineered power bank would have let you charge it, and had a high change of an internal short causing thermal runaway during charging, or in use.

    • +1

It can hold charge for a long time but you'd have to be crazy to think it would for 4 years.

From experience it can definitely hold charge for several months and still be good.

      • -1

Huh? When did I say I thought it would hold charge for 4 years?

    • +1

Would you expect your phone battery to be still OK if you left it for 4 years without any maintenance charge?

I've had the older version of this for ages. Stuck down low in coolest part of car and usually in garage. Kept my 3L diesel starting for ages when had a battery on way out. It just won't jump a car with a dead cell on its primary battery. If it's just flat it's fine

  • +7

I have one of these and it has saved the day on several occasions.

    • Ditto. Great device and great price.

Bought 2 more for Christmas. Thanks OP.

    • -2

Why would you let your car battery go so low in the first place? Just curious.

      • Just got your license? Driven a car older than 10 years? Many don't have battery monitors.

        • -4

Been there done that. All you need is a 10$ multimeter to check once every month. There are even cigarette lighter ones. I dont drive my car much and I have a BT montitor sitting next to the battery that sends me the reading right to my mobile phone. I dont even allow the battery to reach 12.4V before which I hook the charger.

      • +1

I couldn’t say for sure, but I suspect most people don’t do it intentionally.

Headlights left on, faulty alternators or end of life can all create scenarios where batteries die unexpectedly. Around the neighbourhood and workplace, I’ve used mine on multiple occasions.

        • +2

Yep. Often use mine multiple times a week (even per day).

I've got a dodgy alternator I haven't got around to replacing and don't do many long drives. Forgetting to turn my headlights off for a couple of minutes after killing the engine is enough to leave me needing a jumpstart.

Reckon I've done 20 jumps with this unit in the last several weeks and the lithium battery is still 3/4 full.

      • +1

I didn't say it saved the day for me, but it did for a family member, a work colleague and stranger in a shopping centre car park.

  • I've one of these and haven't had to use it. But I suspect the quality might be crappy because the torch light feature has never worked on it.

    • Yours was probably faulty and should have been exchanged under doa or warranty.

  • Had mine for about 4 years aswell and it's been solid. Holds a charge and is also good for fast charging mobile devices.

  • I have used mine a few time over the past 2 years. Highly rate

    • +2

How long does it last between charges?

      • +1

many months. Charge it every 3 months and you're good.

  • +1

I got mine around 4 years ago
I haven't needed to use it myself as yet but started the neighborhood car's a few times.
Only last week I charged a few things via USB to run the gooloo flat and recharged it and still holds around 13000mah fully charged so it's still running strong

  • Is this useless for a hybrid car?

I know hybrids have a 12 V battery usually in the boot and a giant battery under the car for the electric motor. if the 12 V dies, will the electric motor battery jump start the 12V battery? lol

    • +2

No, the 12V battery is required to start the traction battery. Same with BEV, if 12V battery die car won't start.

    • All cars have a 12V battery, even Teslas. If the 12V battery goes flat then the car is unable to connect the HV battery (it physically disconnects when the car goes into sleep mode) and so the car is dead.

    • It's useless because the cables aren't long enough the jump point postive and negative always seem to be on either side of the engine bay in hybrids

      • I just need one extra jumper cable. $10 off ebay

  • Can I use that on a 125cc motorcycle battery or it's gonna blow it up?

    • +2

Is the battery on the motorcycle 12v? If so, then this will be fine the help jump start, if it's 6V, then no.

    • used it to jump start a mbike battery, no issues

  • Great lithium "Jump Start" pack verry powerfull for size and price and handy charging itself via USB C PD

when on the go or just at home on phone/tablet charger.

  • Out of stock

  • :( went out of stock while I was watching reviews

  • AVOID
I'd steer well clear of this brand. Like others when I went to use it faulted with overcurrent. The unit was fully changed and barely even running the ECU etc let alone tuning over the engine. Was pissed. The unit was much larger than what was required, (like to make sure I'm not caught short). Went back to amazon to check, add my own review, low and behold 404 error the page/product doesn't exist 🤦‍♂️

  • +4

I believe this is the exact same thing, same seller, same price.. 45 in stock…

I already own one of these, saved us from a situation already! Now I'm buying for second car..

    • Thanks got one. Doesn't discount for 2 but single is cheaper.
I have one of these battery packs already and it works great saved my ass a few times and also helped one or two people stranded

      • Yes, it does discount for multiples.

Extra 5% for 2, 10% for 3 or 12% for 4 or more with the listing.

        • Ahh didnt notice

  • FERR DELIVERY!

  • Have another Gooloo model but it's been great, support was good too when one of the LEDs didn't work they sent out a new unit quickly.

Jump started a handful of other people's cars, when I finally ended up with a flat battery myself I had forgot to put it back in the car after taking it out to charge it… (From now on I charge it in the car instead)

    • Sounds like unlimited battery!

      • -1

        Please elaborat?

  • The 15v out makes these much more useful than a standard powerbank.

  • can you keep these charged by using the usb ports in the boot? or will it still degrade if you just keep it topped up like that

    • You'll kill the battery

    • +1

Only need to top up charge every 2-6 months depending on how hot the battery get's and condition of battery

as these have lithium batteries inside are lithium and not the old cadium that lose charge much faster.

  • +2

Bought one a few years ago. Used it a couple of times. Works every time. Saves time waiting for road assistance.

  • +1

    Back in stock.

  • I have one of these, it's fantastic, it's saved me (and some of my friends) multiple times! Just got one for my dad as an Xmas present thanks OP

  • +1

I had one of these. Used a few times and then it died one summer when I left in the car.

  • Haved used these multiple times across the years. Helped many strangers and neighbours needing a jump. Especially handy in tight parking spaces where you can't connect a cable. Also doubles as a power bank.

  • +4

Another listing, same seller, few different products listed

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334981925336

    • Thankyou. Bought

    • Thanks heaps for this

    • Thanks, got the GP2000 for $78.

  • -2

All my gooloos puffed up and died.

  • Be careful starting small engines with these. I used it regularly to start my mower and it eventually broke the shaft inside the starter clean off.

    • I used it regularly to start my mower

Mate, you're own fault. It's clearly meant for vehicles.

      • +1

Thanks for sticking it to me, I am aware. The mower does have a battery the size of a small car so I thought it would be ok.

    • +1

Dont see why it would damage anything, the voltage is the same and the mower will only pull enough current that it needs to engage the starter. I've used my 4000A Gooloo on the mower many times.

      • That was my initial thoughts too. I think it's just less voltage drop. You can definitely hear it kick over a lot faster and it really clunks when it first kicks in.

      • I would recommend at least using a set of jumper leads to the gooloo so you have a bit more voltage drop. With my starter it has a worm drive. As the starter spins the worm drive pushes the gear out where it engages the flywheel and starts turning the engine. So the starter is getting up speed before it engages, then bang. The replacement starter had an even smaller shaft

  • I have 3 Gooloo jump starters, all different models. All been working for years, saved the day on many occasions.

  • Bought one of these almost 3 years ago, charged it when purchased and then never touched it until last week, was able to jump start a car 3 times no worries and still showed half capacity.

  • Back in stock

  • Got the 1500 version of this and it jumps my 2.4l turbo diesel and also did a 2.8l turbo diesel as well
