I presume you are free to walk around and enjoy the entertainment?

      • +55

Afraid not. At that price, you're stuck in your room. No fun, no entertainment, no food etc.

"Dammit man, beat that dead horse harder!"

        • +24

          get over it.

No, I won’t “get over” the hospitalisations, deaths and long covid that are still happening.

          • +24

@PainToad: I'm 50 and had a horrid time with covid and long covid. Inflammation in my joints, minimal taste and smell 5 months on and I'm pretty healthy/fit, slim and exercise regularly… 2 initial shots , 2 boosters. It's no joke

            • +4

@Gordzirra: Hope you get better soon.

            • +3

@Gordzirra: let me give you another example

i'm probably comparable to Gordzirra in age group… i've had asthma since i was a kid… probably less fit than him being something like 85kg at about 5'11"

i'd have both initial injections as mandated

i've had covid like… 4 or 5 times and have no long term effects

            • +1

@Gordzirra: Yeah I'm 52 not a single shot and no long covid, everyone is different I suppose.

            • +4

@[Deactivated]: At what age do you think a group is no longer worthy of the emergency responses presumably afforded to younger people? 70 seems like where you've pitched your flag but what about 65? 60? 55? At what age do you stop saying "well they were going to die anyway so why should we suffer"?

            • -2

              @[Deactivated]: Well said

      • Is gastro extra ?

      • It's still rife on the cruise ships. Friends of mine and those they went with all contracted it on a recent Pacific cruise.

Who goes on a cruise to sit in their room and look out the window…

        • +4

Anyone who cares to stay away from the sweaty, covid/gastro masses isn't going on a cruise in the first place.

          • @dontpanic: I am travelling on a cruise ship next month with friends, we've all had either 5 or 6 shots but not going to stop living because of Covid :)

            • @SimAus007: I appreciate you answering questions that nobody asked.

              • @Ademos: Yet I didn't ask for your option, how ironic. You should try to communicate with kindness and you'll see how life is far more enjoyable.

                • -1

@SimAus007: See the difference is that everyone else in this thread was following a thread of conversation relevant to the original topic, not wading in to make a vaguely political statement.

Adding a smiley face to the end of your "IM AWESOME BECAUSE IM NOT SCARED OF THE VIRUS" statement didn't make you sound like, you know, less of a boomer…and anyone not acknowledging the elevated rates of illness on cruise ships (since the dawn of man) is a moron.

It's okay though, another 400 words regarding how you're totally not emotionally attached to any of this conversation will be convincing. Floor's yours.

            • -1

              @SimAus007: NPC detected.

    • It’s like a floating RSL. They said they are worth it, particularly if you don’t hang out at the Casino!

    • No air. That is a bit rough. So bring your own oxygen or the room is 'empty' of air. That would be not fun either way me thinks.

  • +2

I'm not a cruise person. I also understand that they are bad for the environment, which I'm not too fussed about really.

Aside from that, people that enjoy them, what do you like about them?

    • +50

I love that everything is all in one place and the destinations come to me. It's kinda like all inclusive on land except you wake up at new destinations. I like chilling out by the pool all day and having a buffet lunch. Then in the evenings having a formal dinner with a show, then drinks and karaoke. And I only have to take an elevator back to my room to head to sleep. Cruising isn't for everyone, just like backpacking isn't for everyone, but those are the perks of cruising in my view

      • The destinations makes sense for some cruises but you’d be better off staying in a hotel for two nights in either Sydney or Melbourne than this cruise. You’d see a whole lot more of either city.

        • It’s cheaper than rent though.

    • +1

I agree.. if its all about everything in one place then why go into the ocean. Just stay on shore and do all the activities. Its a waste imo

      • +8

A ship moves through the ocean, bringing you to a new destination,
whereas staying on shore and doing all activities in, around the same vicinity,
means you move 3-cm a year, due to plate tectonics.

With that said, I am into backpacking and never cruised…

…unless I'm cruisin' for a bruisin' on OzB

        • +1

cruise from melbourne to sydney.. no new destinations I take it

          • @U30004: well, it could be a 'new' way to
            spend the Easter weekend,
            between those 2 destinations :

Friday 29 March — Good Friday
Saturday 30 March — Easter Saturday
Sunday 31 March — Easter Sunday
Monday 1 April — Easter Monday

          • @U30004:

cruise from melbourne to sydney.. no new destinations I take it

Er where do you think Sydney is from Melbourne? Hint: they aren't the same place…

        • +1

          Definitely cruisin' lol

    • +18

It's a real vacation. No brainer holiday, no need to fuss about hotel, transport, food, where to go, what to do…just purely eat, relax, sleep. Daily room service twice, image after wake up, go for breakfast, back to room, it get tidy up. After lunch, have some afternoon nap, then go for dinner, again the room is tidy up :D

      • +6

Best described as a resort with a changing view. The ultimate rotating restaurant?

      • My colleague made a good point, you only need to repack your suitcase once.

      • A two night trip from Melbourne to Sydney is not a real vacation.

    • +4

the travelling is the holiday, I can get loose and not have to worry about getting home.
      The people you meet,

      • How do you know it's you being 'loose'
        and not actual sea-sickness, hah

    • +11

One of the best holiday ideas for families with young kids. Kids have a blast with all the activities and other kids. Parents chill without having to worry about feeding them etc.

And the pricing. Let's say hotel room costs $100 a night for 2 adults. $50 for 2 ppl eating out for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks in between. That's $300 a day. The deal is around that but It usually gets cheaper the more days there are in the cruise

      • +2

        Really?

$150 min for a hotel room in Melb, more in Sydney.

And the drinks pricing and packages are in USD and are pricey.

        • +1

Doing a conservative estimate. So even more of a bargain

          • +1

@aka nioh: I think this deal is a bargain for solo non-drinker.

            • @Eeples: Yep, if you don't drink, don't gamble, only do the free activities and eat the included meals(which is plentiful as most cruises always have a buffet), cruises are usually always a bargain

              • +1

@aka nioh: What if one doesnt eat either?

                • @U30004: That’s an anti-bargain. Literally losing money not eating all the food available.

                • @U30004: Don't know, haven't tried. Why don't you try it for 3 to 4 days and let us know🙂?

                  • @aka nioh: Lol. Cant do there no syd to mel cruise

        • Everything on board is AUD

      • +1

Where are you getting hotels for $100 per night?

        • As mentioned above, conservative estimate also factoring in potential deals for discounted hotels rooms

          • @aka nioh: It is unrealistic. Unless you are happy with a shared bathroom.

    • +11

I love the fact that you are cut-off from the world and get some time off for your own self. No groceries, no Bunnings, no kids pickup drop offs - just eat drink sleep repeat 😃.
Some of the entertainment on the cruise is also good - stand up comedy, magic shows if that’s your thing.
Also like some of us have mentioned, no need to worry about restaurant or sight seeing , it’s all taken care of. And plus - if you have kids, then the kids are sorted. We got to meet our kids only just before going to bed and early in the mornings. They were sorted for the whole day - and we were going around just by ourselves, which itself is rewarding- I hope parents can relate to what I am talking about 😃

      • How are the kids sorted? Do they have 24hr day care or something?

        • +1

Not 24 hr - but they are gone for pretty much the whole day. Depending on how old the kids are, you can leave them from morning 9:00 am to even past midnight - that’s included in the fare. For younger kids, there is option to pay additional to keep them longer.
This is my experience with P&O - hoping others will be similar.

          • @Dealking: Are the kids supervised? Is it like a daily event for kids only?

            • +1

@Homr: Yes - pretty much like a childcare for younger kids. For the older kids there are various supervised activities and they might be going around the cruise in groups.

      • How about you leave thr kids outside home and lock the doors?

    • +1

Round the clock food availability. Princess Cruises particularly good.

    • +6

wake up at 7 - hit the gym
      8:30 - breakfast
      10 - pool + drinks
      12 - food
      13 - casino (love poker)
15 - snacks + drinks + walk around the boat or stay in the pool
      18 - food
      20 - drinks + casino
22 - go to the """"""night club ( which sucks but it is fine to watch others being stupid )
      _______________repeat________

the food ready to eat all time, drinks being brought to you or ordering whatever you want, be insanely drunk and literally just get in the lift and go straight to your bedroom and do not worry about anything… its the best stuff.

      • +5

thanks now i can stalk you

        • +1

I’ll warn you: it will be boring.

      • +1

So food, drinks and poker? You might as well just go to the casino to blow your money…

        • +4

he is going to the casino

        • +1

I don't know if they will offer me a pool+ someone bringing you drink if you want + casino + a variety of GOOD food (not your shitty steak with saggy chips) + stopping on islands + making my bed everyday + bumper cars + climbing + I could tell you the rest but Its bed time.

      • Will the casino be open between Melbourne and Sydney?

        • Can’t confirm as I have never done a domestic cruise, but on the international, casino would only open when we left Australian waters.

        • Yes - probably about 2 hours after leaving Melbourne.

      • Insanely drunk and gym at 7am isn't happening.

        • -1

          yr a whimp

    • +2

      Free daycare

      • As David Brent once said "free, for the money I've already paid".

      • Is there free daycare on princess?

        • Well it's not free but inclusive. With this price it's cheaper than daycare. Kids love it there and Princess does a good job.
