    • Re "…bad for the environment".
Once you take into account three thousand people not using thier electricity, gas & cars etc for the duration, I wonder if the impact breaks even or even has a positive effect.

  • +3

do you still have to be jabbed to go on a cruise ship ?

    • +1

      Not anymore, just “recommended”

    • +15

You're more likely to get jabbed if you hang that pineapple on your door

      • +4

I had to look up all these pineapple references !

        • and I found the word swing*

          • @Bii: … push pineapple, shake the tree

I met a hula mistress somewhere in Waikiki
Where she was selling pineapple playing ukulele
And when I went to the girl, come on and teach me to sway
She laughed and whispered to me, yes come tonight to the bay

    • -4

asking if needed makes me no longer find them attractive.

Rather have all, vaccinated people if im going to be stuck on a ship with them

      • +3

If your shots work why are you even worried?

  • +1

    Hi,
We have never been into a cruise and considering taking this just for fun.
    - Is there a cruise coming back from Sydney to Melbourne too?
    - Can we walk around and explore options like pool, casino etc at this price?

Apologise if its a stupid question

    Thank you

    • +22

You have to stay downstairs and row.

      • Hahaha priceless!!

    • +9

      1) It's a one way trip, as it is a repositioning cruise that gets the ship ready to head back to Vancouver.

      2) You have full access to the ship, except the speciality restaurants where you'll have to pay extra. The buffet, main dining room, pool deck food are all inclusive with your fare.

    • +7
      1. This cruise is essentially what is a "relocation" cruise, and so without actually checking, its likely there is no return cruise. This is similar to the 2 night, no location cruises which just cruise in a circle because they can't afford the docking fee. You might find another cruise elsewhere, or even consider doing a one way motorhome relocation to get to or fro the destinations.

      2. There are too many jokes in the comments, but of course. Most people who book interior rooms do not spend any time there that isnt sleeping. You can hang out in the casino (as long as its in international waters), or find one of the sun loungers near the pool, or hang out in the bar areas all day.

      3. (Not asked but as a note) $179/2 nights is only $90 per night. In the scheme of cruises, this is not exactly a bargain price. You can find cheap cruises at this price point per night quite a lot outside peak seasons.

      • +4

Yes - it’s not exactly cheap. Also beware, 2 nights will probably just be what you will get. Cruises I have been on departed 4 pm in the evening and docked back very early like 7ish in the morning. So this cruise will be more like just over like 36-40 hours.

        • Do you get breakfast on last morning? And do you have to leave the boat at 7am?

          • +1

@Pinchy: Yes for breakfast. Off by about 8:30 am.

As a child who went on 2 cruises in 80s/90s I can assure you, a lot of time is spent in the cabins, especially in the evenings after dinner.

        • +1

          As a child

Entertainment isnt exactly focused at children.

          • @ATangk:

Entertainment isnt exactly focused at children.

It is now. A lot has changed since the 80's/90's

            • @1st-Amendment: It depends on the cruise line. P&O and Royal Carribean is more focused at children. Princess is for an older demographic.

        • As a child who went on 2 cruises in 80s/90s I can assure you (…)

          This is surely lacking /s

      • Hey Buddy May I ask which website I can search for cheap cruises? Thanks

        • Not really sure tbh, usually restricted by times when I can go, so theres not that many good options. After getting a price online, always nice to hop into your local travel agency to see if they can do a better price.

    • It's a cruise not a prison, why wouldn't you be allowed to walk around?

  • How much is all the spa stuff?

    • +2

For $179, what do ya reckon

  • +2

Easter Sunday and Monday, fly to Melb for 2
    Nights prior.

  • Bargain sampler cruise

  • +1

    Cheap gastro.

  • +3

    Every night in my dreams

    • +1

I see you, I feel you

  • +1

My favourite ship is the love boat 💕

    • Well….. about that pineapple…..

  • +2

I am on a temporary visa. Do I need a visa for cruises?

      • +2

Are you sure you are not giving the wrong info.

        According to Carnival

Australian residents must provide Government issued photo I.D or a Passport. Children must also have a Government issued ID or Passport. A current Medicare card can also be used for passengers under the age of 18. Please ensure that you bring this form of ID to check-in on the day of your cruise. International guests on a domestic cruise must have a passport that is valid for 6 months after the date of the cruise return.

Given these requirements a temporary Visa need might need further investigation.

        • +1

That's an ID requirement, not an immigration requirement (though the 6 months reference is confusing).

I can't put my money where my mouth is as I haven't researched this, but I find it hard to believe that a cruise from Melbourne to Sydney would involve exiting/entering Australia (i.e. going through immigration), so there's no reason why visa status should matter.

          • @callum9999: I'm guessing 6 months refers to effective/expiry date while cruises mean to be part of tourism hence shouldn't make it too difficult for them?

          • @callum9999:

That's an ID requirement, not an immigration requirement (though the 6 months reference is confusing).

It's just standard wording used across all cruises domestic or international to cover their arse. I went on one and forgot to bring ID for the kids, but had photos on my phone which they accepted. I don't think anyone cares too much for these types of cruises

            • @1st-Amendment: But you can't take kids on an international cruise with a medicare card as ID - they've specifically written that for domestic.

And it seems like multiple cruise operators have the same clause. You should be right - rationally it's no different to taking the ferry down to Tasmania - but it's weird that they would all make the same stupid mistake!

  • Can I eat $179 of food in the time allowed? That is the question.

    • Hang on. It’s 2 night accommodation too and the travel.

    • Can I eat $179 of food in the time allowed?

If we work it out to about $20/meal you'll be eating 6 standard meals ($120) before even counting snacks, seconds and (non-alcoholic) drinks. So yeah, $179 would be easy to eat.

    Any deals from brisbane?

    • Same question and for this month…

  • If this is one way, what is the best way to go to Melbourne from Sydney to get on this cruise? I was gona drive there but if it’s one way then I have to find another way to get to Melbourne ?

    • +5

Hitchiking would be the best bang for buck…

    • +1

      Bushride.com

or use your frequent flyer points (if any)
to redeem flights to fly down to Melbourne.

      • +1

I’m going with my kids so won’t do bushride.com.

    • Flying? Train? Greyhound?

      • +1

Train to Canberra then V/Line to Southern Cross (melbourne) $50ish concession or cheap flight if you can find it

        • I think from Canberra, its 5 hr coach then 3 hr vline to Melbourne. Right?

    • +2

I’m going to fly to Albury (to visit my sister) from Sydney. $179 with Rex at the moment. I’m hoping for a special to come up. Then catch a bargain train to Melbourne for $10.

      • -1

Note you will still have 5-6km to get to the pier from whichever station you get down from in Melbourne. Count the taxi cost in

        • Nope. @Eeples, walk south from Southern Cross and go to the Collins St tram stop, near the maccas and KFC, and just take tram 109, all the way to Port Melbourne, not towards Box Hill. That’ll also be included in your $10, provided you do it all on the one day.

          • @HamBoi69: That’s good to know. Thanks…..but odds are I’ll spend a day or two in Melbourne.

            • @Eeples: Trams are free within the CBD. When you go to take it out to Port Melbourne, it'll be about $5 then as it's on a new day. Still marginally cheaper than a Taxi or Rideshare.

Plus free Gastro, Covid, Colds, Influenza and STD's. What a bargain.

    • free is free though

  • -2

    Rather to take train

  • +1

If I have money, I'd just retire on cruise ship. Anyone doing it now I wonder?

    • Plenty.

  • Any for Sydney to Melb?

  • Don't forget to include cruise insurance too.

  • Do you have to pay for Wifi?

    • Yes.

    • I’m wondering if land based mobile coverage may reach the ship from time to time.

      • You may get charged maritime rates vs the normal rate. So be careful.

        • Maritime rates? Not a thing.

          • @Fitzwah: Roaming charges. One of the articles I have read said there are phone towers on board but it's own by the ship and not your Telco.

      • I’m wondering if land based mobile coverage may reach the ship from time to time.

        Yes. It is patchy though.

    • +1

No, if you have the drinks package it comes free, and speed is not that great but cannot complain.

  • +2

Wish I can take my car for return travel

  • +5

Depart at 5pm the 1st day and arrive at 6am the 3rd day for anyone wondering

    • Anyone know how long after you dock you need to alight?

      • By around 8:30am

    • +1

Hmm sounds more like a 1 day cruise

  • 64.99 USD per day for unlimited Booze.

    • Drinks package is usually extra.

      • +2

        That IS the extra.

        • if I don't drink booze and just want soft drink?

          • @shmahoo: Not sure.. probably best to just buy them as you go.. i mean how many soft drinks are you planning to have?

          • @shmahoo: USD$15 for soft drinks.

            • +1

              @thangcuoi:

              USD$15 for soft drinks.

              ?
Not sure about this specific cruise but every one I've been on, Non alcoholic drinks are free

    • Do you have to buy it for the 3 days?

    • Just bring on your own grog at that point

    • It’s all AUD

  • -1

    Price has gone up now

    • I think pricing is different if you go via cash rewards.
