The only deal worth mentioning here is the Samsung T7. The rest is nothing special to rave on about.

Is the pixel 7 pro better than the pixel 8.

Im looking for a new phone as my s22 fe is dying.

Any other recommendations for a phone sub 1k.

    • Shouldn't be, it's just the bigger brother of the 7.

  • I think I'm blind, where can I see the black friday catalogue on their website? Unless I missed it because I'm on my phone?

I'm looking for iphone 15 deal

  • why is there massive price difference between 8 and and 8 pro? it wasn't like this for pixel 7,

    • +8

Google usually only takes hardware features out of the standard model. This year, they locked software features to the Pro variants too, and obviously charged more for the 'privilege'.

    • To be fair, the 7 and 7 Pro were stupidly similar.

  • +2

Can you please post the full catalogue?

Huawei haters, please neg me as always.
Is Pixel 8 much better than Pixel 7? Had Pixel 7 for a while, I really can't find it better than my 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro in many ways:
    1. Face unlock no where as good, in dim light, never happens, Huawei Mate 20 Pro unlocks everytime side by side.
    2. Finger unlock not always work, same as Mate 20 Pro
    3. Battery not even half as good despite the same usage with 10% bigger capacity than ~4kmAh on my 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro. I took 100s of photos while traveling and 5-year-old Huawei Mate 20 Pro lasted ~6 hours, my Pixel 7 didn't even last 3 hours doing the same.
    4. Photos are not better, especially in low light and close-up shots.
    5. The power button above volume buttons, the opposite of all other 10+ Android phones we had, I'm the go-to guy in the family
    6. Neither has any lag, not even my 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro
I basically copied all apps from 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro to Pixel 7, so very much the same apps running in the same manner. I'm on lighter usage daily except when traveling, no gaming, not much video watching, ~30% brightness on both phones.
Except Pixel7 has native Android 14 with much more up-to-date updates, not much different to Huawei UI12 otherwise.
Anything else is Pixel 7 better than 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro?

    • Mate 20 Pro also has the amazingly useful infrared and accompanying SmartRemote app.

      • Favourite feature in a phone. Getting hard to find on phones with decent cameras

    • +2

You already replaced the Mate 20 Pro with a Pixel 7 a year ago so I have no idea why you are asking this question.

That said, yes, Huawei made great phones prior to the Google ban. You would only replace them when they die or start dying like literally any other phone you'll buy.

    • +1

you forgot point number 7. does your pixel allow the Chinese government to spy on you, because the Huawei does

      • +5

Pixel allows the American government to spy on you, pick your poison

        • yeee no, google isnt owned by the american government.

unlike huawei with their government via strange chinese ownership rules

      • I'm guessing the answer is no - but also, why would you care?

      • dear MrThing … please provide proof to back that up.

Although -you may have forgotten … in a sense google pixel phones do "spy on you to an extent" … unless you dial down some of the standard settings when acquire your new phone.

        Just saying.

        • Why do you think Five Eyes moved to ban Huawei?

    • +8

Had the P20 Pro… Amazing phone!
Haters gonna hate but I miss HTC (had HTC 10) and Huawei as decent competitors.

This Apple vs Google vs Samsung is pathetic in terms of innovation.

      • +1

HTC One M7 remains one of the nicest phone designs ever. Was really durable too, could get away without a case.

      • I actually really liked the whole range of Huawei phones - back in 2019.
(I still currently use a Huawei phone daily).

going back afew years ago … they came close to edging out BOTH Apple + Samsung … but then US came along with "sanctions" +++ no more google apps + maps + play store (unless ppl side-loaded such apps).

The restrictions on CPU chips also restricted Huawei's phone market.
Huawei could've been a really strong player in market … but sadly not :(

        • My Huawei phone blows the Pixel 8 Pro away and that is frustrating. It's getting old now.

          • @hamwhisperer: Pixel 8 Pro has the best camera on the market in my subjective opinion.

    • Huawei is overrated. Glad they're gone for good.

  • What are chances of jbhifi price match?

    • +1

JB Hi-Fi should be on sale at the same prices as well. Waiting for a sale on 512GB myself

      • +1

I got 2 fat $500 gift cards waiting for their time to shine 🙏

        • Haha I only have about $270 myself. But in case they aren't on sale (I hope not; I refuse to pay $2K for the 512GB when there's nothing wrong with my 512GB P6P), you should have no problems price matching

      • Same, I hope 512GB will be on sale too!

  • Stack with this for an additional 10%

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/811079

  • FYI it's ON right now, not in 3 days…

Pixel 8 Pro 256GB is actually $1,377.00, which is $100 better.

    • Where are you seeing this?

      Edit saw it on website:D

28 Degrees price protection claim submitted!

      • Just completed the order this morning and picked my new phone up in store. Was waiting for a good price. I think that's probably it.

Will try to send all my old phones in the trade in. Might get a couple hundred dollars back as gift card.

        • Chromecast with google tv still at normal price

  • What's better?
The new firestick 4k or the gen 1 firestick 4k max (2021)?

    • +1

Gen 2 - better codec support apparently

      • Thanks
So hard to compare all the models. My understanding from your comment is:
        4k G1
        4k max G1
        4k G2
        4k max G2

        (Ordered worst to best)

        • Hows support chromecast with google tv would sit in that list?

        • -1

I read somewhere on reddit, performance wise, best to worse it's:

          Apple TV 4K
FireTV Cube (2022 aka Gen 3)
          FireTV 4K Max (2023 aka Gen 2)
          Shield
          FireTV 4K (2019)/4K Max (2019)

Not sure rank of Google etc in that mix.

The Cube Gen 3 and 4K Max both support DTS HD and TrueHD passthrough (if that's important to you). But overall performance Apple TV is best, ATV only support EAC3 for Atmos content, once again might not be important for you.

  • Can't find the Samsung T7 1TB Shield SSD for $98 on Officeworks site, what am I missing?

    • Me too

    • Note can't see that price.

Looked through actual catalogue and it's not listed in there at all, so not sure where this false hope had come from

    • +1

      Available now

      • Thanks. Got 1 from my local

  • Can't find Chromecast HD for $37. Any help?

    • Yep, same. Not showing.

    • +1

Might just go to OW and get them to Price Match the Google store - they've got it for $39.

      • Cool idea thanks

        • FYI, google store says sold out/pre order so they won't price match.

      • Is the t7 still available in Google Store please send me link if it thank you.

    • +1

      Available now

      • Is t7 still available in Google store please send me the link if it available and do you have link to Jb hifi blackfriday catalogue. Thank you.

        • T7 OW link is in the deal description, not sure if it's still available or anything about the Google store.

          JB catalogue here

  • +1

Damn @dealbot had my hopes up all week on the T7 drives.. boooo

    • The catalogue said the sale starts 3pm.

      • +1

Where is the catalogue link, may I ask?

  • What are the chances of Amazon price matching Officeworks for the T7?
    Have they in the past?

    • Thanks bro. Got the T7.

    • Thank you

  • Why would you get a flagship phone if you don't heavily use it at work.

  • Hoping for some Z Fold 5 deals to start dropping

  • How come this is a deal if you could buy a pro for $400 less just yesterday?

  • So the same deal as yesterday but not the $400 gift card ? Good deal but yesterdays was a steal in hindsight

  • I'd suggest possibly waiting for the trade in credit deal at jb got my pixel 8 pro yesterday for $997

    • Not sure if it will repeat again as it was BF + trade in.

  • +1

    Amazon has T7 Shield 2TB for $176.11

  • +1

Will the T7 Shield prices drop further with Black Froday sales coming up? or is $98.00 for the 1TB, or 2TB for $176.11 going to be the best?

  • Anyone knows if I could price match the T7 Shield at JB Hifi and then use $10 perks voucher or not?

  • Can use kids gc from coles for 10% off?

  • Harvey Norman and Domayne are doing the same prices as OW for the Samsung T7's

  • +1

So glad I scammed HN on that Optus deal for P8 Pro

  • Can i please ask if there ocerheating or battery drain issues for those that got the pixel 8 pro or 8

    • +1

Some will claim no battery issues and 10 hours SoT

I get horrendous battery drain if not on wifi. Today for example I was off the charger and away from wifi for 10 hours, under 3.5 SoT and down to 15% by the time I got home

    • The Pixel 8 Pro totally has the same problems as the 6 and the 7 - it still has a bad 'radio chip' which means it seems great at home on Wifi (for most of the reviews) but it's a battery eater when you go out on the road and heats up to boot.

Furthermore, it doesn't do video out over USB-C, still, in 2023, despite phones doing it for like 8 years.
The fingerprint reader is still bad.

      Nope.

Only huge positive is the shape / design, it's fantastic, including non curved display. I'd kill for a Galaxy S24 Ultra in the same phone size and shape but nope, I won't go near the P8P

      • Lucky i didged the billet what is the bad radio chip if keen pm sharing. I wouldvr dxpected it to be exynos issue

  • I just bought one from the Google Store.

Pixel 8 pro 256 $1,399.00, and then $41.97 store credit.

    • Did you mean P8P 512?
      How did you calculate $41.97?
