Would sign up if not for ads

    • +2

Thanks for pick up. I didn't notice, as i'm still on Telstra Gold offer from last year. Updated deal.

    • +4

      Yep.

The entire point of a streaming service and only reason normie's will pay for it, is that it's ad-free.

      • +1

Or they want to watch shows..

    • There are hardly any ads on it.

  • +9

    Basic Only (HD, 1 screen)

    …and with ads:

    https://help.binge.com.au/s/article/BINGE-Basic-with-ads

At least there are no ads shown on Movies or Kids on-demand content, and no wagering ads shown - might be worth getting for the upcoming school holidays.

  • +7

I think i can dock and go on land for the next 3 months

  • +2

    Thanks

  • +4

Are these ads all throughout the shows or just at the start like Youtube ?

      • +1

Hardly any ads watching YouTube through a web browser

        • +10

None when using an Adblocker, Vanced or SmartTube

          • +4

@Jonzay: +1 for SmartTube. Been a gamechanger for me. Fk youtube.

          • +1

@Jonzay: Vanced still working for you?

Mine stopped ages ago, now on revanced

      • -3

Except people are already reporting ads in premium.

        • +7

Source? I've been using premium for years and have never seen an ad.

        • +2

The only ones are the promos filmed by the content creators.

        • I doubt it, why would anyone pay for premium if it has ads

      • +3

No ads when using Brave browser on PC and SmartTube installed on a TV.

        • +1

You can use brave browser on your phone to access m.youtube.com and no ads through that either (good for iPhone/iPad since no Revanced/SmartTube)

    • +4

Also throughout the shows. Just signed up and had a block of 4 ads twice on a 45 minute tv show. Worst part is they were the exact same ads each time so saw the same ads 6 times in 2 hours.

  • +8

    People pay for ads?

    • -4

      You dont want aids?

    • +1

      Foxtel is quite profitable afaik.

  • +32

Please don't buy into this bullshit.
    You pay for no ads!
Paying for ads just encourages them!

EDIT: Can you pay to upgrade? Then it starts to look marginally better. Assuming you pay the difference, it could be anything from
    $2 = 3x$10 credit = $30 Credit = a month and a half @$22/month Standard Plan rates
    or
    $2= 3x$10 credit/month = $12/month @ $22/month Standard Plan rates

    • +6

I agree - Mrs Frodo signed up for a month ($10!) not realising that there were ads. It's unwatchable! So many ads when watching TV shows. Don't promote

      • +1

How many breaks and how many ads in a typical 22 to 30 minute show? Obviously >0 is not acceptable when you’re paying but I’m curious how bad it is.

        • +2

Their website I think says every 20mins or so, can't remember, but at one point when we were rewatching House of the Dragon, it was literally every 10-15mins. Almost as bad as free to air tv

          • +1

@Mr Frodo: Doesn't Foxtel have a tonne of ads too? Same company after all.

  • +16

    Full circle back to Foxtel

  • +1

They have a 4K option now?

    • +10

Nope, shitty res and shitty ui/ux. No change from when they first launched a couple years ago. Very infuriating experience using it. I think they spend all their money on the ips.

      • +2

But their top plan tiers say 4k

        • +1

Ok they must've added that in recently, didn't mean to mislead anyone. But the fact remains their service is horrendous vs other streamers. I WANTED to give them money because I love HBO's iconic series e.g Sopranos, but in the end I unsubbed. Never resubbing until they get their shit together which is probably never (already gave them a second chance). I took time to fill out a customer feedback form so they can improve, but clearly they're not willing/don't care enough.

      • +1

Their res quality is atrocious and man their UI is so infuriating, it was designed by either a really poor dev or a complete moron. But it has improved from initial release where I tried it for less than a week before ditching as no subtitles, at least they have subtitles now.

  • +1

    How often are ads?

    • +9

just often enough to eat at your soul that you'll be a host shell in three months time

    • +6

I don't find it that bad, I refuse to pay their higher tiers, so happy-ish to put up with a few ads for the discount, much the same as what I do with Netflix.
I just always cancel it as soon as I've seen everything I want to, but at $2/month for 3 months and then an intention to cancel, that's peanuts :)
Just a shame the Binge UI/App is so badly built and buggy.

Friends don't let friends give money to Rupert Murdoch

  • +2

    PASS

  • +7

Basic Only (HD, 1 screen, with ads)

Before the internet we had SD, 1 screen (in the house), with ads

    • +2

Neglecting to say it was free to air TV, keyword being FREE

      • No, Foxtel also has ads

        • +1

Back before the internet, we didn't even have FOXTEL

  • +2

Do ads play if you're using something like AdGuard/PiHole as a DNS filter?

    • Assuming it's like any of the other services, then likely yes.

    • +3

They do. I have pihole, and still get ads in my Binge stream. TBH, < 3 minutes of ads per hour is nothing really, and it saves me $8 per month, I'm all for it.

  • How many / long are these ads?

  • +2

    PASS

  • +2

    Pay for ads? No

  • Just when I'm going overseas! Gah.

  • +3

I’d rather travel the high seas than pay to watch ads 🏴‍☠️

  • +3

yeah nah. I won't pay for a service with ads, not even $2, and their non Ad ones don't seem to be on special.

  • +3

Won't even pay $1 if they are going to show ads. No deal sorry.

  • +4

For $2/m I'm happy with it, good enough quality for me and no ads on movies.

Not sure what people expect at $2/m

    • +6

It’s pretty obvious that people expect no ads

    • Not sure what people expect at $2/m

It's normally $10/month. $2 month deal is not a special ad trial offer, it's $10/month and has ads.

  • +2

    Thanks, sorted for 3 months

  • -1

Binge the only way to watch GOT in Australia

  • I’m quite annoyed at the ads on Kayo and I got 6 months for free. Streaming services pushing ads has forced me back to piracy. And it really surprised me how great something like stremio plus real debrid is. It’s really too easy streaming high quality content ad free all from the one app.

  • I have to pay to watch ads? <inserts surprisedpikachu.jpg>

  • So there's no way to deal with the ads? Apart from mute?

  • doesn't work - keeps saying there's a problem

    https://ibb.co/znsS3rF

  • Saw this yesterday, but then saw in your post it is with ads… What's the point of streaming with ads.

  • Still works, thanks OP.

I hate ads as much as the next guy but this gets me HBO which you can’t get anywhere else unless you sail the high seas.

Equivalent deal in the US is probably HBO Max which has a Black Friday deal for their ads plan at $3 USD ($4.50) a month.
