I reckon most users would be better off with the Bambu lab P1s which is on special for $919 at the moment. It has a slightly smaller build volume (256) but is fully automated with an easier setup.

    • Which one is easier to get parts for?

      • What kind of parts? Qidi has most replacement parts on its AliExpress store.

They're both not really 'tinkerer' machines, so you shouldn't need to mod/replace parts much.

Qidi customer service is supposedly fantastic as well.

    • Yep. There are pros and cons for both. You can't go wrong with either tbh.

If you plan on doing ABS/ASA and those type of printing, qidi would be the way. If you're sticking with PLA/PETG and don't mind the closed bambu system, P1S.

      • I haven't used either but from what I've read the P1S also prints ABS extremely well.

What @NigelTufnel meant is that QIDI is better geared up for the more exotic materials - 350c hotend, active chamber heater, extra hardened steel hotend. Nylon is on the cards if you wanted to.

          • @Quarn: Bambu sells the hardened steel hotend for $23, although the standard one in the P1s is already stainless steel. I've never printed Nylon but the Bambu PAHT filament recommends 260-290c nozzle and 80-100c bed which is within both printers capability.

The QIDI has the 350c hotend which is higher than the 300c hotend on the Bambu P1s, but I don't know for what filament that would be required?

            • +1

@tanksinatra: Nylon is very hygroscopic, the X-Plus/Max have completely sealed filament storage.

You can argue all day about how amazing Bambu is but there are other great options available. I was sitting on the fence, stuck between a tiny Bambu build plate and a shonky K1, until I saw the X-Max 3, it fits my needs perfectly.

              • @Quarn: Yeah, exactly. The bambu are unarguably good printers. But there are others out there that offer better bang for buck that get missed in the hype of bambu.

                • @NigelTufnel: As someone who’s built and advised on printers for 11 years and run a couple of significant print labs I’d say Bambu are about the best bang for buck where the user may not have the best knowledge or time to invest in printing. QIDI are about the only decent alternative at this moment and more so for someone who will develop a deeper knowledge or seeks customisation for niche purposes.

Yeah, they're both capable. But you'll have an easier time printing ABS and other engineering filaments consistently and well with an actively heated chamber.

This one is good for nylon, asa, carbon printing as it has active chamber heater.(P1s also good for those kinds of filamnets but it needs to be changed its stainless steel nozzle and extruder gear to hardened steel nozzle and hardened steel extruder gear set) As someone mentioned above, P1 and this have both pros and cons. Watch youtube reviews enough before buying a 3d printer.

  • For anyone looking at grabbing one of these, you can currently get them slightly cheaper at $882.55 delivered from AU warehouse if you sign up to their newsletter. They'll send you a 1 time coupon for 5% off, but it doesn't stack with the UP01

  • Tempted by this over the P1s as mainly doing functional prints; not seeing a need in my use case for the AMS on the Bambu. Will replace an old ender 3 and being able to do ASA would be great. Anyone know the normal price for it?

    Cheers

    • About $1000 I think. I got it for $947 but that was part of a supposed Halloween Sale and combined with the UP01 coupon.

For anyone thinking of buying one of these in the future and are smart enough to do a search - here's a warning - https://youtube.com/shorts/ptAdHarB9x0?si=hfP5JCC53RrgmYGQ

      Offt that’s pretty scathing!

      • And here I am having just accidentally shorted my hotend while I was cleaning with a brass brush (all my fault). Contacted support with what happened and they sent a new hotend and extruder board no problem, and received it in 7 days from china during Christmas.

I don't trust Jonathan as far as I can throw him with his 'reviews' and recommendations. He makes decent content, but I don't trust his reviews.

        • +1

A bricked printer is hardly "a review" where you distrust the opinion.

          • @mickeyjuiceman: It's a recommendation or 'non recommendation' from someone who bricked their printer (the details on how are unclear. I guarantee he was messing with something to do it) and is now annoyed that the company doesn't ship to Israel anymore for obvious reasons and he knows he can't get anything more out of the company.

My take on it at least…
