Dang thought we woulda seen better by now

  • This or remarkable 2 if I mainly want to use it for note taking?

    • Yeah I was deciding between that and the Air 3 C or whatever it’s called, they’re all a lot more expensive than the kindle and they did a big software update recently that added more note taking features. Seems Amazon is pretty active with software updates and features for it. But I also have hundreds of Kindle books so…

I bought the Scribe and returned it — ended up getting the Remarkable 2.

My use case is just to replace a note book for ideas and random doodling. I don't use it like a daily organiser or anything like that. The reason I returned the Scribe was that it's just too restrictive. One of the main issues is it's harder to get files on and off the Scribe. With RM2 you can easily transfer files to/from cloud services like Google Drive. It's not an automatic sync, but it's good enough for me.

One small feature I want to rant about is that the Scribe doesn't have the ability to change the screen timeout. I think it's just 15 mins, then it goes to screen saver. A good use case for an e-ink device would be to have something static like a recipe remain on screen or if you need to refer to a manual or text book. But there's no option at all. WHY, bezos!?

But yeah, it's mostly those types of limitations. Maybe an update will fix it, maybe not.

But if you have the same use case of just a replacement for basic notes or whatever, the Kindle isn't bad. You have a return window for both devices so I'd just get both and try them out. And price-wise they're not far off. With the RM2 and referral code I got it for around $550 including the pen which I bought elsewhere.

Also a big thing that people mention is that RM2 doesn't have a back light. For me it isn't a big deal, but I've seen it mentioned a lot, which is understandable.

How do you get a referral code?

        • I got mine from one of the threads on Reddit. Just google reddit remarkable referral code. That said, I think they might have black friday sales which might negate the code.

      • My use case is aligned to yours. Thanks for the insights. Would you know how to get a referral code?

Go with SuperNote! You will not regret it.

I went with the Scribe as I need something to scribble notes with, and to view PDFs, and read books. It's great for that.

I find some of the other options too complicated for my use case. Amazon has also done a lot of software updates in a short amount of time which is promising to fix issues like screen timeout.

I use both regularly. The E Ink display on the Scribe is much easier on the eyes if you're reading lots of text (I use it for long PDF journal articles and books) than the LED backlit IPS display on my iPad Pro. I also find the writing experience superior on the Kindle than the glossy surface of the iPad — my writing on the Scribe actually looks my handwriting!

      (I didn't neg you.)

      • thanks for not negging me <3

  • The 64Gb is showing as $569 for me, using your link.

    • Are you signed in as a member?

      • yeah. it's showing as "Perks early access". the 16gb and 32gb are showing the same price as OP's title (just realised you are the OP).

Can you return this if you don't like it? Reading JBHIFI change of mind return policies don't give me confidence.

Maybe wait for amazon to match

  • My search for the perfect pdf annotation tablet ended when I scored one of the $199 refurb Surface Pro 5s earlier this year. Honestly for me, it was just like the Pina Colada song.

    • Yeah nice. I had a Surface Pro 9. Very heavy, afraid the glass would break if I dropped it or side off lap, short battery, hot and windows is an absolute mess to use with a pen&finger. But I’m glad it worked for you.

  • Amazon has now price matched.

  • Is there any way to use coles gift card deals with this?
