FAQ - from previous GBs:

1.Does your hard drive compatible with my NAS/computer/device?
We strongly recommend buyers to do their own due diligence to ensure that their device/motherboard/SATA controller/NAS is compatible with large-capacity hard drives.
For example, a motherboard manufactured 15 years ago comes with SATA ports, but may not be compatible with high capacity HDD. This because SATAIII interface and 18TB capacity was not exist at the time, and manufacturers didn't see a use case to have that compatibility, so either (both) the BIOS and the SATA controller was not designed to support them.
We wouldn't be able to cover all compatibility scenario, so please Google or Reddit, they are your best friend.

2.Order Pickup in Person
Unfortunately, pick up is not available due to my commitment to work and family, it will be very challenge to arrange time for pickup.

Most of items are in stock at our Melbourne warehouse, usually dispatched in 1-3 business days. A email with tracking information will be sent once the item is processed at our warehouse. Australia Post advised it is a peak time with black friday sale, there might be a delay in certain region due to the network congestion with large volume of parcels, shortage of labour, weather condition etc. Please select Parcel Post vs Express Post accordingly.

4.How is your package,is it secure for the hard drives?

9.Manufacturer Warranty
Can I claim warranty with the manufacturer? Why these hard drive's warranty are 3 years instead of 5 years?
These are the OEM stock, means these hard drives are part of the large order and have a special term on the warranty.
Upon checking the serial number on manufacturers' website, it displays the relevant model but will refer you to "Contact the place of purchase for warranty" or "Out of Region".
Manufacturer usually refuses the warranty of OEM product and will refer customer to contact the place of purchase for warranty claim.

10.What's the difference between "Recertified" and "Refurbished" hard drives
Recertified is offiically refurbished by manufacturer, it has gone through manufacturer's QA process to reset SMART data and perform certain test before release to the market. Seagate replace the label and use "recertified" wording on the label for such products. Usually recertified products are provided as warranty replacement.
Refurbished is renew by third party other than manufacturer. It may be formatted or tested to ensure the hard drive is healthy. Usually the label remains the same as the retail product and there are power on hours.

11.Why some items are [Pre-order] or [Sold out]
[Pre-order] means the product is very popular and already running out of stock in our local wareshouse. The backorder shipment is on the way. Pre-order items can be purchased and usually dispatched in 1-4 weeks time.
[Sold out] means the item has no stock at our warehouse. There is no stock in the upcoming shipment and the restock timeframe is uncertain. So the purchase of sold our item is suspended.

12.Order Support and Post Sales Support
For support enquiry and post sales enquiries, please message us after login to your account or reply to your order confirmation email — so we can quickly identify your order. We will try to respond within 24 hours, may be up-to 48 hours during GB peak.
We will try our best to ensure your satisfaction. However, we are running in a extremely lean business model in order to provide you with the most competitive price.
Please be mindful that Discord is a platform for general discussion and ideas exchange, it is not a support channel. DM via Discord for support may be delayed in response or ignored.

13.Unable to Fulfill Order
We will endeavour to fulfill your order, however, in the case we are unable to fulfill your order due to various reasons such as supply shortage
1.) We will contact you via email or phone call to arrange suitable alternative; or
2.) Cancel and provide refund to your order.

14.Shall I trust you? What about my warranty if you run away or your business disappears?
To be honest, we are strangers to you. You should apply your own principal to trust or not to trust a stranger just like dealing with other strangers in your life.
We are doing our best to sustain our business in order to honour the warranty to all our customers. However, we can't predict the future. Things unexpected may happen. So just like my answer to this question in the previous GBs comments, there is certainly level of risks you will need to take in case s**t happens.

15.Can I request a specific FW Version, DOM, or Serial Number?
We receive stocks with random FW ver, DOM and SN in general, may be same or different. We will try out best but there is no guarantee.

16.Shall I purchase hard drive from you? Is it right for me?
Good question!
Firstly — ALWAYS submit a funding request and obtian funding release or budget approval from your Boss Mrs! Don't get caught on the credit card bills!
Secondly — done your own due diligence and know what you are getting (say affordable storage with reasonable level of support just like previous GB), it is probably right for you.
However, if you are looking for HDD with warranty from manufacturer; with specific requirement such as a very specific FW version, DOM; expecting very responsive support; or if you have doubt in me, buying from us is probably not right for you. A reputable local computer shop may be a more appropriate place to make the purchase.

Please read above to understand what you are getting.

    The great wall of text…

    • +26

Believe it or not…. I've done it three time tonight…… first time forgot to save and close the tab….second time attempt to save the draft and broswer tab crashed….third time, continue half way and use Notepad++….and finally here….

      • +1

Based on the typos, I believe it!

  • im addicted to storage

  • +5

What Boss Mrs doesn’t know about tech spending won’t hurt her.

Disclaimer: This is advice only. I don’t necessarily live by my own advice.

    Edit: typo

Is there a setting on OzB where i can choose to never be shown Seagate hard drive or "recertified" hard drive deals?

I'd actually pay for the option

    • +2

There are really only 2 users\stores who post them commonly, just use the hide button.

      • -2

thanks for pointing that out, hadnt noticed it before!

        • -1

You might even find that noticing things is a much more enjoyable way to spend your time than yelling at brands on the internet.

    • What's wrong with recertified? I've been using a few for over 6 months.

      • +2

I actually have a preference for them, because I don't like sending drives back that have data on them.
I'd prefer a cheap drive I can turf if things go wrong, than an expensive one I'm sending back to be 'repaired'.

And knowing that 'Recertified' drives have a strict hours used limit, you KNOW you're not getting a particularly old drive (Seagate and WD won't say EXACTLY, but seem to hint less than 1 years of power on).

Works for me; every drive I use is mirorred.

any deals on wd red series? i noticed you don’t have them on website too.

    • +1

We are working with suppliers on it. But we don't have the WD Red series available at this stage. Sorry

      • Thanks. What would be the best way to know when you guys manage to work with the suppliers?

As in is there updates channel such as news letter on website / twitter etc.

        ✌️

        • +1

          Discord channel should do.

      • Any chance there's an update to this?

  • Any deals on smaller capacity? 4, 6 or 8 terabyte

  • Damn was really hoping to see stock of 10-12GB Ironwolf. I wonder if I can stretch the budget to an Exos…

Firstly — ALWAYS submit a funding request and obtian funding release or budget approval from your Boss Mrs!

    🤫

    • +2

Few months ago, we saw 10-12GB Ironwolf was at the same(or higher) price level of EXOS 16GB….

In terms of that approval… we actually have order cancellation once a month for this reason. Couple of months ago, one guy said his Mrs found out from the Apple wallet push notification right after he placed order and yelled at him, so he needed to cancel the order.
So we cancel the order the refund the customer, but the payment gateway never refund us the merchant fee…..

      • …Ergo I should wait a few more months before purchasing? 😂

        • Ironwolf series is popurlar…. it's hard to get stocks these days…

We don't know what would happened after few months…. so it's totally up to you

@Neology What is the best way to contact you for further questions? DM sent last night, but no response yet. Thanks.

    • +5

      Hi mate,

Just replied your DM from 2:20am.

I went straight to the bed after posting this deal.

And just got to the office to check the exact model number, Part number and firmware version of our stock to respond to your DM.

      Hope it is all good.

  • Seagate Exos X10 10TB(neology.com.au) 1-Pack @ $284.95

Are these any good for a NAS? Don't know much about harddrives besides once buying a WD Red CMR?.

    • +2

Are these any good for a NAS?

      Yes.

I'm on team WD as well, so did not go with this deal as do not want to mix hdds from different makers. But if I am replacing an entire array of disks I'd go with this. Just make sure your system is compatible with larger drives as some motherboard may have limits on sata interface

  • Not related to this deal, I think. But if I just want to back up about 2 TB of data, what'd you recommend?
Will need to be able to move data to and from Laptop on a semi regular basis.

  • Those that have these already, what's the noise level like on these? I'm particularly interested in the 12TB EXOS but I've read reports they are very loud, in comparison to Ironwolfs. Is it a lottery?

Do they run hotter than Ironwolfs?

    • Wouldn't say very loud but they are noticeably louder than the 5400rpm prosumer drives. A lot of pinging and popping sounds when active, about 45-50dBA if I had to guess a number. Temps are similar and depends a bit on models but my 16TB EXOS run cooler than the old 8TB Reds by a noticeable amount.

  • The maximum for MULTI-PACK is five hard drives. If I want to purchase six or eight hard drives, how can I obtain the best price?

    • Hi there, thanks for your question.

We used to have 8 pack and 10 pack sets, and there are customers who want the 12pcs, 15pcs and 20pcs. It started making the prices of different products and sets really messy when it comes to price changes and exchange rate changes.

To simplify the price structure, we made the multipack for 1-5 pack. Unit price of 5-pack is actually the unit price of 10-pack in the past.

      For 6-pack, you can choose from 2x 3-pack or 2-Pack+4-pack, whichever combination is cheaper;
For 8-Pack, you can choose from 2x 4-pack or 3-pack+5-pack, whichever combination is cheaper.

Considering we are selling our product at a very low margin, our team is looking at the oppotunity and may introduce a more sensible discount structure in the future, such as tierd pricing, for example, 1-3pcs no discount, 4-7 Pcs 1% off discount, 8-14pcs 2% off, 15+Pcs 3% off which is similar to ebay.

      Hope this helps.

  • Just placed an order.. 😁

  • Are WD uktrastar good for a Plex system?

I've been hanging out for a bargain WD Red deal, but haven't seen anything exceptional, and maybe these refurbished Uktrastar are an alternative?

  • Bugger, just saw this after buying a NAS. Any chance of running it for a 4 or 5 pack (16tb) again OP?

    • +2

We will probably run a sale in December around the boxing day. Stay turned!

  • +1

Got my EXOS 16TB drives, excellent service from neology.

I got the array now running and just suprised how noisy the drives are, is this normal ? Its like a loud stomach making growly sounds whenever they are being accessed. lol
