Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook (Snapdragon 7c/4GB RAM/128GB eMMC, 13.3" FHD) $212 Price Beat + Del ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

2380

Looks like The Good Guys will "Price Beat" on the Duet 5 4GB model down to $212, not sure who they are price beating but nearly 80% off RRP. Was looking at the 8GB model but this is too good of a deal to pass up. Not sure how long this will last.

Pair with Commbank Yello $30 off $200 to get it down to $182.

Edit: Must click "Price Check: Pay Less with PRICE BEAT" button or try to navigate away from the page to capture the deal.

I bought it now and I'll justify it later!

Bought just for the OLED. Now been told it cannot do Netflix HD :/

    I hope it's worth the $220.

    • The processor is too underpowered.

      • The processor is actually very decent. Just the lack of RAM will slow the performace way down.

    • +1

It can do Netflix HD, only in chrome browser.

      • Kayo 1920x1080?

        • +1

          yes

  • Nothing from CommBank for me (and they made $10b in profits).

As comparison to Westpac deals with SB, more generous relative to the profits they made.

    • I got commbank deal, just update the app maybe

      • Did that, still nothing for this.

        • Same, nothing for me either.

It seems as though there are tiers of Yello - with mortgage holders assumed to be the top tier and probably being offered more deals?

          • @bmxr: Yeah I suspect it appears so.

There’s so such tiers with Westpac + SB deals.

  • JB wouldn’t price match, said it’s an error

    • Probably is. Dunno if I should bother ordering only for them to cancel later. Also I don't really need it. I have the old duet that I hardly touch :)

    • Yes, same comment when I asked them, after waiting behind 200 others in the queue

  • +8

8GB and I would have grabbed it. Have had Chromebooks with 4GB and 8GB and there is a huge difference.

    • +2

      Thanks for that info :)

    • Cheers. This is what I should've researched before buying, but the clock was ticking!

  • I bought the Duet 5 yesterday with 8GB/256GB with pen for my kids school, but this deal is more than half the price!

    • +1

This one has 4GB/128GB, no Pen….it is much slower and limited for what you can do with it.

      • 80% of the time should be the same with say<10 Chrome tabs. the USI pens should be <$50 if you need now (or wait for good discount).
For $220 delivered, it's great value.

        • Definitely! Buy now and think later

    • Where did you buy it from and how much was it?

      • +3

$467. Got JB to price match OW @$477 plus used $10 Perks.
P.s: OW model does NOT come with the Pen, so wasn’t same model number but guy didn’t seem to care.

        • I was planning to do just that! Congrats it worked for you

        • tried yesterday but JB says no to price match (JB Online)

  • Hmm for those of us having second thoughts, we can just go instore and return right?

  • Don’t forget to use the $5 Snackback good guys gift card if you have one. I only remembered after I checked out.

  • +3

Well I'm on holidays on a beach in El Nido Philippines and I just purchased…. Something I wasn't expecting to do today haha

    • +8

Well I'm at TGG on a street in Victoria and I just purchased a holiday to the Philippines. Something I wasn't expecting to do today haha

      • @Muzeeb Did you do it online with your brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook?!

      • +1

        I'll see you soon @Muzeeb :)

    • I bought 3 shelving racks from Bunnings online while I was on holiday in Qld once thanks to OB. Can't get enough

  • Make sure to use Storecash on your digital wallet. I got extra $20 off.

  • I got OB fever and bought one, fuelled by all the upvotes. Number one deal of the day?

    • +6

Might be the number one deal most people regret later.

      • Quite possibly, if only it had 8GB. Could probably sell it for more than it cost though.

  • OOS
This one is only 4GB, not great.

  • +1

    I hesitated! :-(

  • Link is broken now.
Search shows as $434 but clicking it shows Page Not Found.

  • Hmmm, I must have just got my order in in time, either that or it's going to get cancelled.

Was umming and ahing for ages expecting it to go oos, then I finally gave in and ordered it and it's instantly showing as oos lol

    • Username checks out either way

      • +3

I've been Chromium since the 80s, Google stole my name!

  • Just ordered 3 min ago.

    • +1

Yeah I ordered at 4:46. Must have been one of the last, damn it. I kept checking hoping it would go oos so I didn't have to buy it, then bought it in the nick of time

  • Anyone ordered but not received confirmation email? I got screen shot of order number but no email.

    • I did! Takes a while to come through!

      • Being over an hour, PayPal receipt shows 3:40 no idea what happens but I used guest checkout.

    • Confirmation email and SMS came straight away. Been deducted from credit card as well…

  • Can anyone please share the receipt so we can try and price match elsewhere?

  • +5

Damn, would've loved to waste my money on this.

  • +1

4gig isnt enough memory for anything

    • You could run half a macbook pro with that!

  • Gone, they took the page down. Don't think it was an out of stock thing as it still comes up in the search but go to the page and you just get "product not found"

  • 8Gb would have been great but 4GB is fine for general web surfing, emails , Google suite etc ..

    • How about word and excel?

      • +1

Web versions is what you need to use. Will be ok.

  • +4

The screen for this is pretty fragile. I dropped it on the couch ~60cm height and the keyboard landed on it and it smashed a corner. Nowhere else could quote me a fix and Lenovo came back with $7-800 for a replacement screen. But it suits my needs in terms of media and functionality. However a year on, its slightly lagging and I have the 8gb version. It also doesn't recognise when media is playing and keeps putting my screen to sleep after 10 minutes which is annoying AF

  • +2

Anyone reckon we'll all get cancellation emails?

    • +1

I just picked mine up 🤷🏽

      • No stores within 500km for me, had to do delivery.

        How is it??

      • Nice! The stores around me were rapidly running out of stock I think so I had to settle for delivery which I'm cool with time wise but made me feel dirty paying an extra $8

Comparison of the original duet vs duet 5 for those curious -
    https://youtu.be/86PuRoruBSo?si=c54_uoqAxcxzv20d

  • Price matched with JB hi fi , went in the local store to check it out. They didnt have the 4gb ram version, the 8gb ram version looked nice. Ordered it using GC for pick up and collect at another store. Its slightly large to be used as tablet, but with that amazing screen and $130 saving off my other option, i think its gonna be ok

    • How much did you pay for the 8GB?

      • I got the 4gb one. I merely demo'd the 8gb. I merely need it for movies while travelling and just surfing stuff, so i think i am gonna be ok with 4gb

        • Ah got it. I like the original duet, but can be very sluggish sometimes, hoping this is going to be a bit better. It's a lot bigger though, which isn't ideal. The original is a nice size

          • @chromium: My exact thoughts after seeing the two side by side from the comparison vid. It's bordering the mini laptop category.

    • +9

      Nobody cares

      • Savage. Lol

    • +2

      Does it come with grammarly?

      • -3

Just use an add on we don't care about Chrome books. Privacy leak out the roof

    • I bought the duet 5 because I wanted to try chrome os as a tablet and compare with Android and how it compared with dex mode. Also there was nothing I could really find locally that offered an OLED display, which's is something I always value and turned me off cheaper offerings from Android tablets and laptops. The other drawcard was the great battery life, once again a cheap laptop probably going to suck in this area, 15 hours screen time achievable on the Duet 5. Does you ASUS tick any of these boxes?

At the end of the day it horses for courses though. There will be cons and pros each way you go.

Bing lee must of had it for $222

    • If this was legit, then that's around 75% off.

Either that's below cost for Bing Lee, or consumers are getting even more ripped off than I realised.

If the performance is a bit lacklustre as many have reported with these 4gb models since they moved to Android 11. I suggest turning off the google playstore apps. That's what a lot of people claim to works to improve performance with the lower ram model. The good thing about the chromebook you can access most things through the browser and create web apps. Usually the websites will be better than an Android app for a bigger screen like this anyhow.

    • Thanks for this, will give it a go

Did anyone get any update? I purchased as click and collect at the begining of the post and no update upto now. Its for victoria. Just cot the conformation email after the purchase and thats all.

    • +1

      Here is my update.

Got an email this morning saying the order was cancelled due to unsuccessful payment.

Order was placed ~4pm Friday via PayPal. I did not receive an email confirmation from TGG. Both PayPal and bank showed payment charged.

This is the reply from TGG chat agent:
"Unfortunately, we can not replace the order and I am not privy to the reason it was cancelled. You will receive the refund within 1-4 business days. I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Sometimes this occurs due to pricy reasons so maybe contact your bank."

      • Thank you for the update. Inhave not received an email yet but probably i will receive the same email like yours. I ordered for click and collect and got conformation email straight away. But no update yet.

Just called the store and told that about 15 online orders are there and no stock. He didnot mentioned about cancellation but told me they have to contact the suppliers and when they will be available, they will contact me.

    • +2

I ordered for delivery. If I check the status it says it's backordered. No biggie if it gets cancelled I guess

    • I received successful order SMS 13:09 on Sat. Tracking says Door to Door Delivery Backorder

    • Awaiting picking1 Item
Status Description: Your product is arriving from our supplier and will be picked for you shortly. Youll receive an update from us as your order is ready to despatch.

      Ordered 4:21pm Fri

  • +1

Just picked up mine from JB Hi Fi.

    • I tried price matching in JB today with my TGGs tax invoice. They said they were unable to do it because it was no longer advertised online.

      • -2

Yeah, one of the requirements for PB/PM for most places is that the deal has to be live. The screen is absolutely fab, just gonna do some research about the chrome OS before opening the packing

        • How do you know the screen is fab before you've opened it? lol

          • @Guybrush57: Lucky me there's this thing called as demo pieces available for ppl to fiddle around a bit

  • Has anyone had any updates? I ordered for delivery I'm still sitting on "Availability: BackOrdered" when I sign in to my account.
The only email I received was shortly after placing the order a "Your order is being processed"
At this point I'm thinking it's got to be getting cancelled

    • +3

Mine shipped out this morning via Auspost.
