Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook (Snapdragon 7c/4GB RAM/128GB eMMC, 13.3" FHD) $212 Price Beat + Del ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

2380

Looks like The Good Guys will "Price Beat" on the Duet 5 4GB model down to $212, not sure who they are price beating but nearly 80% off RRP. Was looking at the 8GB model but this is too good of a deal to pass up. Not sure how long this will last.

Pair with Commbank Yello $30 off $200 to get it down to $182.

Edit: Must click "Price Check: Pay Less with PRICE BEAT" button or try to navigate away from the page to capture the deal.

  • Got mine today, after $20 voucher as well.
I'm not sure if it will replace my iPad since it's 13" but at least it was a pretty good bargain.

Lol mine was shipped from the store in my suburb and then went all the way to Melbourne airport to be scanned and is now in transit in some other suburb miles away

    • I lol'ed.

    • I can explain since I called to Terrible Globe Enterprise (Team Global Express used to be Toll group) few times.

Once item is arranged to pick, item will be picked up and sent to Melbourne Airport, then they will allocate for the delivery. if the item is not delivered next day or 2, then driver might pass to their service newsagency, but only if the route is on its way and also have to be small enough for near newsagency to accept. if the condition is not met, that receiver have 2 choices only, request for redeliver next day or perhaps pick up from airport (unsure). My family members were at home but they failed to ring a bell to deliver with signature, I got so upset and pushed so hard for them to deliver to newsagency that they incorporate with (which is 6 kms away from my home) luckily it's on my way home.

  • I did the same as all the comments from the above, ETA was mid Feb. Live chat and changed store allocation…it's arriving tomorrow 🤣

Mine finally arrived! I notice the manufacture date on the box is 2023/12/23. So only a month ago. Very surprised that they're still making these, thought they were old.

It was made after I ordered it lol

Mine also arrived. Quality for the price. But after setting it up, have no idea what to use it for!

At least the screen is nice (although seems to have a bit of a mesh grill effect when the screen is bright and white…maybe the touch sensor?)

    • Yeah I noticed a kind of scanline effect on the screen.

It's really nice for the price we paid. Performance seems good enough. I was concerned about it only having 4GB of RAM, but it seems much faster than the previous 10" version I have. I took it on the train to watch 1080p mkv movies in Kodi, it looks great 😃

      • I've found it's kinda heavy though, and it annoys me that it only has usb-c so I can't use my usb-a dongle for my mouse.

Might put that $20CR towards a bluetooth mouse!

        • Yeah, It's heavy with the cover and keyboard.

This is not bad if anyone needs a carry bag

One nice feature my old Duet does that this doesn't seem to, is being able to flip the keyboard back and have it switch to tablet mode automatically. It's annoying to have to take the keyboard off to use tablet mode, especially when on public transport.

I can force to tablet mode by adding a debug flag and pressing Ctrl-Alt-Shift-T, but the onscreen keyboard doesn't popup when you need to enter text. The on screen keyboard will only pop up when the physical keyboard is disconnected, even when forced into tablet mode.

The old Duet is great in that regard, if you flip the keyboard back it attaches magnetically to the screen, gets disabled and it enters tablet mode, flip it back round and it switches to desktop.

The Duet 5 keyboard attaches to the back of the screen, but doesn't switch modes, so the keyboard is still enabled

Have had mine for a couple of weeks and it's been great. Hard to fault for less than $200 (factoring in the $20 voucher). Very happy with the purchase.

    • I wondering what you use it for, I've had mine for a day, and it's a bit underwhelming.

I was thinking it could replace my old ipad, but after a fiddle with it, it seems a little laggy, occasionally slow, the features in the OS lacks. The apps i use are not optimised, like ABC iview isnt even available, ABC news text is small for a massive screen, theres no native mail app to add other emails other than gmail. Apps seem to get confused as to orientation, swapping between landscape and portrait. The only plus is it has a keyboard….

      • I get a better experience I guess.
Get lag sometimes, but not enough to feel dramatic. Its not an Ipad, but it costs less than half of one as well.
I don't use ABC iview, so zero loss to my use case. I do use it to watch Netflix, Plex, Amazon Prime and view files from my Google photos. Shop websites, read news sites, forums or just mindlessly browse Youtube. Also use the Google home app to control my Philips lights and check cameras in and outside the house with the Reolink app. I also take it to work sometimes to watch (whatever) during lunch with earpods or just browse more in the lunchroom.
It lasts forever, OLED screen is awesome and it cost me less than a budget samsung phone.
Sucks that you hate yours, but I love mine.

        • Weirdly after having the App Store saying no to abc iview, I played around google tv and it suggested abc shows which I clicked and it offered to install abc iview, which I tried and now an app on my device.
I found it strange and inconsistent, maybe apple has simplified things for me too much.

Now I’m wondering what this pre installed app named “Terminal” is supposed to do….

If you still haven't received your duet, talk to chat to have them to organise shipment from another store. They allocated mine to a store in Victoria for WA delivery.

Now it's an absolute joke having to do this… Shipments should be prioritised based on order time. Yet my partner who bought hers hours after me received hers weeks ago…

    • My WA order came from Queensland. Arrived today…

  • +1

Got a text from TGG saying stock is estimated to arrive around 5 February. I didn't want to wait so I did the same as many did here and asked live chat last week to allocate my order to a different store with stock. Just received my order yesterday.

  • Can anyone provide any good recommendations for a pen to use with this? Thanks in advance!

  • Guys is it possible to use the screen and keyboard seperately?

I want to place the screen a bit of distance away on my desk, and then connect to it wirelessly through the keyboard. But it sounds like I need the keyboard attached to the screen physically to use it…

    • +1

Highly doubt it. Maybe just get a wireless keyboard with a dongle or one that has bluetooth connection ability.

    • +1

If it's similar to the original duet then the keyboard will only work while connected to the tablet.
