Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook (Snapdragon 7c/4GB RAM/128GB eMMC, 13.3" FHD) $212 Price Beat + Del ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

2380

Looks like The Good Guys will "Price Beat" on the Duet 5 4GB model down to $212, not sure who they are price beating but nearly 80% off RRP. Was looking at the 8GB model but this is too good of a deal to pass up. Not sure how long this will last.

Pair with Commbank Yello $30 off $200 to get it down to $182.

Edit: Must click "Price Check: Pay Less with PRICE BEAT" button or try to navigate away from the page to capture the deal.

Yep, I was wrong. Initial post title and description gave me the wrong impression re: the “price beat”.

  • It's $434 now

    • Comes up as $212 when I go to Price Beat.

      Duet 3 vs Duet 5

    • The one you posted is 11 inch compared to 13 inch from the OP, and it's still more expensive lmao.

    • thats the duet 3, this deal is for duet 5

    • That display is IPS, this display is OLED.

  • -8

Based on the specs it would be a nightmare to use

    • How so?

    • I use it most days and it's awesome

      • +1

Chrome books are fast for their specs and resilient. Mine lasted for ages and I was well sick of it and treated it like crap before it even half died.

    • It's running ChromeOS.

    • It's actually an awesome piece of kit for the price.

  • +6

I wonder if they price-beating Bing Lee who has it for $222 but out of stock

golden rule of Ozbargain i've learnt from many masters here in the forum - Patience. i've been waiting for this Tablet to go on sale for almost 11 months!! Thank you so much Op i bought 2!!! Amazing deal !

  • +3

Thanks OP, felt bad I hadn't wasted enough money this black friday.

Bought one for no reason. Hope they don't cancel!

  • Great deal! Cant beat for that price and updates until mid 2031.

    • +9

4GB RAM in 2031 should let you open at least half a Chrome tab

  • How does this compare to Samsung Galaxy A9+ for $257?

    • Where did you see that price? Keen to get one.

      • Samsung student 20% off plus 15% off with the app. Got 32% off.

        • Thanks. Will grab one.

  • Thanks OP, treat myself although I already have iPad.

It is a good find - but unfortunately I don't know if I can justify buying another device. Kids have the original Duets which still go, partner has a Flex i5 Chromebook which hardly gets used, we all have 10" tablets…
and that last point is quite a significant point, because I can't quite work out what the purpose of the Duet is; Kids use it as a Chromebook laptop, I tried to do something on one instead of on my tablet, but the app wasn't in the Play Store as not supported on the Duet device. So it's neither a laptop nor a tablet?

But the kids still find it great.

    • +7

You're wasting time, go place your order or regret later.

    • My use case will be dedicated handhold YouTube player. So no worries of app or other things.

  • decent digital photo frame for google photos integration?

  • One thing I found that I don't like about these Chromebooks is that I can't sideload pirated apks onto them. I do believe it's possible though I just struggles to do it.

    • It is possible but yeah requires a bit of effort to set up.

    • +1

I've got smart tube next sideloaded no problems.

  • ChromeOS isn't Android so does that mean you can use this for streaming Netflix, Stan etc?

    • +1

Via web yes but the Android apps are limited to SD because reasons (around Widevine L1 not being supported in ChromeOS Android)

    • +1

It runs Android apps too, so streaming apps probably work too. But you most likely would just use the website instead. I use stremio, kodi and access the Kayo website for sport on my duet 5. You’ll find it’ll run most stuff an Android tablet would. The chip isn’t the best but can emulate GameCube era stuff with the dolphin emulator.

  • What's the idea with these things, just a laptop with a detachable keyboard??

    • For kids. They use chromebook at school and refuse to use Windows at home

  • +2

Bought chromebook with similar spec once and regret it and never will buy again really slow not even for my kids

  • Tempted but I think I have spent way too much from all these Black Friday deals…

  • +1

Will it work as a good tab? I was looking to get the lenovo P11, wonder how does it stack up against it

    • +1

I’d say for the people wanting a tablet buy a tablet. I tried this thing in tablet mode and 13.3 inch screen is too cumbersome as a tablet.

The screen great on this tablet and the battery amazing, beat anything else around $500 let alone this price but there’s plenty of trade offs too.

      • Thks, i am just worried about the screen responsiveness, am just gonna drive into nearest store and check it in person

        • yeah and buy it whenever you're ready for $212? good luck !

        • +1

          Godspeed. You'll need it.

  • How are these? I have the old duet and it's pretty slow for anything other than simple web browsing. Does anyone know how this compares?

  • Cheers OP. Came in at an even $220 delivered with another $20 back via the Amex/TGG deal.

  • Wanna buy it just for the OLED display, but I really can't justify the purchase, it would just sit around.

  • +5

Back off u seagulls im trying to buy. Lol

    • +6

      Mine! Mine! Mine!

      • Lol

  • Bought one!

Didn't need it as I already had one. Now I have 2. It is powerful enough for office processing but you will need another laptop for any video editing.

  • I have lenovo 3, and it's trash, it's too slow to do anything, and it always was, not like an android phone that may get slow over time.
That may mean nothing for how fast this one is, dont' know

  • I just went and played around with it. Lucky I didn’t impulse buy!

    • No good?

      • +3

I found it’s laggy, pretty much like a cheap laptop with a celeron processor. If you want it for a tablet, it’s pretty heavy.

        • I have the old duet, I like it, but it's really laggy. I assume this would be better, but I don't know by how much

  • Thanks OP. $220 delivered less $20 back via Amex. Can't beat that. Same price as i got Lenovo Tab M10 Plus from Aldi earlier this week. No brainer.

    • +1

Forgot the Amex cashback, handing in the Ozbargain membership :(

  • thank you, I just ordered one

    • +1

I didn't see that offer on my card

  • Thanks OP, perfect gift!

  • I bought the 8gb model but smashed it not long after, this is a revenge buy for me.

  • Got one thanks OP. Yes it has it's downsides, but for $212, you'll struggle to find anything close!

  • +4

    I just pulled the lever,
    Buy now research never

    • yeah had two $50 tcn Home cards from Coles special left over , converted and used em… lets see…now

  • This or a m10 plus instead for young kids to learn on ?

    • This of course

  • -8

    No 3.5mm headphone jack.

    Terrible speakers.

Display is poor quality, with poor subpixel and text is not legible.

Terrible keyboard, terrible trackpad. Save your money is my recommendation.

    • It's OLED, can't be that bad?

    • @dualcore Are you speaking from personal experience? Are you comparing it to a $1,000 iPad/Samsung tablet/ or Windows laptop?
As the reviews seem to contradict your statement other than no headphone jack!
As Amazon,Officeworks, JB-HiFi, TGG etc all their customer reviews are 4 stars or above. Youtube reviews seem quite good also.
It's an OLED screen, software updates until 2030 and reviews of people who use or own the device don't mentionthe issues you have stated!!

      • I use it all the time, it has a good balance, browser is fast, supports a lot of android apps and awesome battery life and screen. Definitely not a good tablet. It chugs a little with Linux over the sandbox VM, but it's definitely usable and what I use it for the most. I can't wait for the next gen Snapdragon to bridge the gap with performance.

    • +1

      It's a good screen.
Keyboard and trackpad are not as good as a regular laptop's but OK for a keyboard cover.
Speakers are what you would expect for something that size.

    • The display is good, I personally prefer the screen over my considerably more expensive iPad Pro. Speakers aren’t that great but still reasonable. Software updates are until mid 2031 now.

The only turn off I would have with this deal it’s the 4gb model but at this price it’s still an incredible deal.
