Damnnnn $1000 for that? Could make your own with the bunnings "Rack it" product line for less then $300

    • +9

Even if you go all out on the good stuff like Dexion pallet racking, you can get much more flexibility and quality for $1k.

i'm not going to neg, but I am failing to see the deal here.

Username checks out. The Bunnings racks don't include a massive door & lock, for sure if you don't need them or have the tools and skills to DIY them, more power to ya.

I've been looking at pre-made ones for awhile, they all tend to go $1200-$1800 so this is a decent deal.

    • was just about to say the same thing…

  • No more reversing in then (unless sedan or 2wd ute)
    .

Yea, small price to pay though for extra storage in apartments. My neighbours have these storage boxes and SUVs, they still reverse park. Their cars just stick out a bit out of their parking lines but doable.

Can't you just install a storage locker on the wall of your garage and save a lot of money and have even more space for your car?

    • +1

You sure can. I did contemplate on all the options, pros to cons to each. Standalone storage lockers are way cheaper, but generally don't have the depth and you also lose space in your car spot. I live in an apartment with shared parking so the floating bonnet is a neat solution. If you have your own home and garage, this is probably not for you.

Bad luck when you get a flat battery.

    • +4

Never thought of that, good point. Release handbrake and push.

      • On an automatic, is it transmission locked in park if engine not started? Maybe ok in CVT but old school auto would have issues?

        • No. That’s what the N (neutral) is for. Some really old cars will allow you to shift into N without keys, but vast majority will require you to have the keys in and the car in ACC mode, but the engine doesn’t need to be running nor the battery working in order for the car to be shifted in Neutral. As for cars with push button starts, majority have a key override where you follow the same instructions above. Very small percentage don’t and for those you are SOL

          • @ccrap: Good to know, I have never had to put an auto into N while engine was not running before or tried for that matter (to move the car).
But on a manual I have done it many times to move the car while not running or clutch starting. Even rolled the car backwards and clutch started the engine when in reverse. Ah battery problems in the past.

    • My car's battery is located in a side panel of the boot with additional terminals under the bonnet. I'm sure it's rare but convenient

      • So does mine - it's really convenient.
And it prevented my car being used for jump starting another car, since they were so confused when they lifted the bonnet. "Sorry mate would love to help but…."

    • battery in the boot gang!

    Inaccessible with a parked car.

  • +4

Don't think I'd want to open it up like they show in the second picture and run the risk of having something falling on the car.

  • +1

Perfect to sleep in if the lift is broken and fire stairs only accessible from within building.

    ;)

  • completely pointless and a risky product. will cost $$$ in repairs if it tips over or one of the items is mistakenly dropped while accessing it.

  • +1

Wow this is just solving a problem that doesn't exist. Plenty of wall mount options with various depth!

    • Nah, they have their uses in certain apartment situations. Not without caveats but a decent option for those who need it.

    • These are for city apartment building basement carparks, where your belonging will get stolen if left out. The strata wouldn’t let you hang a storage box off the common wall as others have suggested. The problem with these is they are designed for sedans, and with a lot people owning SUVs, they reverse up to them and their car ends up 1mtr beyond their lot, making it difficult for others to pass.
