@Dienk: Don't forget that your ACL rights protect your purchase for the life of the product, not just the 1 year manufacturer warranty. Even if your launch 2020 PS5 had a problem now, and was not caused by user error, you can still take it back to the retailer (not the manufacturer) and they are still obliged by law to remedy with repair, replacement or refund.

@Nomoneynotalk: My console is just over a year old and the spare controller i bought with it is now barely holding charge. So when looking at $85 for a controller its not so bad to get a little more harddrive space and another years warranty. Your miles may vary.
@Ryven: True, a new controller is about $80 and can keep the 3 games, unless time to trade them in, then the new unit with renew warranty might be worth it.

The PS5 just got obtainable what, a year ago? And almost affordable with some decent deals like several months ago? I got mine when Final Fantasy XVI came out, for 629 bucks in june - who in their right mind is gonna trade a $600+ console plus three games that tend to cost about a 100 bucks each, to then pay 300 more dollars, to have the slim and no longer have those games? lol

40 bucks for mine apparently cos the disc drive won't read discs when it comes out of rest mode. lol. perfectly fine otherwise and now they literally sell ps5s WITHOUT disc drives; but hey I guess mine's broken so nevermind I'll just put it in the cupboard. Worst thing is that it stopped reading discs after a firmware update, which other people claim happened to theirs too, so i plugged it in and updated the firmware just in case Sony had actually fixed their bullshit. Halfway through updating I realised oh man i didn't check to see which firmwares were and weren't exploitable. Turns out mine had been, and wasn't any longer. Coulda sold it secondhand for $400+, with broken disc drive and all. Which is to say, if you're still on firmware I think 9, or below, advertise it secondhand as such and you should get a decent amount for it. I THINK the EB games guy said if mine had been fully working they'd have offered 80? haha. But don't quote me. And it's higher rates if you're a high level member

I haven't fired up my ps4 pro in a while so would like to avoid this if i can.Well, I guess it's up for debate whether one of the firmwares really does screw up the disc drive when coming out of rest mode, and I can't remember which one it was - but the real reason not to update if ur firmware is that low is because a firmware below 9 can be hacked, and those consoles are rare and desired, so they still fetch an alright dollar on the secondary market. So yeh if your firmware is below 9, don't update, and then you'll be able sell it on ebay or gumtree or somewhere advertised as 'low firmware/whatever the number is', 'hackable', 'can be jailbroken' etc EDIT: or you might want to look into doing it to have a jailbroken once yourself

There is barely an upgrade from one console to the next, just slightly smaller and a couple hundred GB of storage. I feel sorry for anyone who gets conned out of $299 and 3 of their games for this.
There were still good trade in deals last year through EB. I traded a PS4 Pro and a bunch of games (trade value of some were higher than I paid brand new) and got a Series X for sub $200.
This is an awful deal. No place on Oz Bargain for a total fleecing like this.

Honestly thought about it, $206 as a level 3 member for a 3 year newer version of the same console and new warranty, replacing a dualsense with a brand newy as well, but most of the games I'd want to trade are PS4 discs that got a free upgrade to PS5 version.

Slightly decent deal for launch model consoles and if you're Level 4 or 5 member.
The only "good" thing about this deal is you'll get extra 125GB, a brand new dualsense and 1 year warranty. The 3 games can be crappy and inexpensive ones.
In my case, I'm keeping my Launch mode.

the old one is only around 800gb and really firmware takes up 200gb of space or 150gb so would be around 600gb, this one will be around 800gb after that, so heaps better, i think.

Called an EB Games store to check the value for PS5 Disc Trade-In. Its $370. The guy was nice enough to recommend selling it online instead.
