Is max worth extra $12?
Not much difference unless you consider the storage from 8 to 16gb and want to torrent etc
Yes, the storage is worth it. Barely has enough for a handful of streaming apps at 8gb imo.
You only need one app ;)

@pufffdragon: Does streamio let you stream content for free? Or you link your payed subscribtions (Netflix, etc.). And smarttube, is that like a user interface for your tv?
@ninnypoop: Smart Tube can be linked to your YouTube account so it all syncs up. It's just like the YouTube app for your Tv but better.
Stremio can use torrents, so technically free. You will get better streaming options if you combine it with Real debrid(not free) as another has mentioned. That works out at about $50 a year.
With that you can practically watch any movie or show that's out there.@ninnypoop: I've been using these apps with the fire stick 4k from a couple years back. Still runs quick and smooth.
Smart Tube is pretty straightforward. Try the free option on Stremio to test it out. If you feel it's for you, I would suggest getting a real-debrid account to use it's full potential.

The above setup is better in many ways as it’s streaming on-demand, no need to download in advance, organise media, just stream what you want when you want.
Easily, it's a big mac meal and better in basically every way.

@sirajs Max has a slightly powerful processor along with twice the storage and Wifi 6E.
Most of what's different between the regular and Max versions comes down to the chips powering them. While the Max model comes with the Mediatek MT8696T quad-core CPU clocked at 2GHz and an 850MHz GPU, the regular version is limited to the Mediatek MT8696D quad-core CPU clocked at 1.7GHz and a 650MHz GPU.
Only if these devices could support external HDD. My Roku box maybe a bit bigger, but lets me expand entertainment options during travel.

Unless you know how to set up an alternate launcher, think twice about getting a Fire streaming device. They have recently pushed out an update that auto-play fullscreen ads every time you wake up the device.
Is it hard to set up an alternate launcher?
I was able to turn off the auto-play option via settings.
