So G.fast is still a thing? Thought it fot scrapped.

We got FTTC in our street which is apparently G.Fast capable.

    • +2

It’s “in Vision Network TPG FTTB buildings”

    • +3

The NBN scrapped it in favour of upgrading the FTTN to FTTP which makes sense but sucks for people like me stuck with FTTB which has no pipeline for an upgrade it seems.

    • You should be eligible for FTTC to FTTP.

      • Yep just waiting for upgrades to be carried out in my area. At this rate would likely be early 2025.

        • FTTN to FTTP is by Dec 2025. Most of FTTC to FTTP should become eligible by the end of Dec 2023. What are your results from this nbn link?.

          • @Twix: Oh that would have been nice by end of this year :D

Still unavailable. Have registered for updates to my address from way back when the initial announcement was made.

            • @m0usju1c3: There is still a chance. Do you get an ETA from Launtel?.

              • @Twix: Same result:

Unfortunately it looks like you aren't yet on nbn's rollout schedule to be upgraded to fibre.

                • @m0usju1c3: Check those links often as they are quicker to update than waiting for an nbn email.

                  • @Twix: Certainly will, where did you learn about FTTC upgrades aiming for December 2023 completion?

                    • +1

@m0usju1c3: nbn press releases on their website.

  • I got this installed yesterday. Super happy with the results. On a FTTB line but currently getting 260 download and 60 upload. Install was super straightforward also.

    • on a 250mbps connection?

      • Yes their 250/50 connections on copper

      • Yep. Was tempted to go for the full 990 connection but I don't have a use case for it

    • Hi, do you have a referral that I can use?

Looking to get the 250/40 plan from capti

  • Is this the same thing as Gigacomm?

    • No, this is using the old TPG FTTBW network where TPG installed DSLAMS at apartments many years ago, and they have sold it and rebadged it and upgraded the DSLAMS to support G.fast

Gigacomm sounds like pure fibre to the NEW apartments.

TPG FTTBW reach is mich more deeper 500k homes I think they wanted?

Got this installed recently - very happy 940mbps+ in evening peak locally ; 500mbps+ uk/us in evening peak

    • Hi, do you have a referral that I can use?

Looking to get the 250/40 plan from capti

      • Let me ask them because I’m not sure

        • like to have a referral code as well if you got one

        • have not heard back from them yet re:referral program. I did hear a mention when I signed up it was in the early phases so it might not be up and running yet.

  • This seems to be cheaper than directly from TPG…

    • TPG do not offer G.fast right now and support and all that transit jazz using TPG is piss poor… Capti are great!!

      • So it might be worthwhile moving to them?

        • Yep, do it before the end of the month

You can (technically) still have TPG and Capti running at the same time - less crosstalk and interference

Capti are on CGNAT though and if you need a IP it is $10 extra a month just FYI, so it's slightly different to TPG where they have million sof IP addresses.

This post sounds more like an advertisement than a deal.

    • +2

      Yes and No

the deal is that no setup fee is charged.

And not many people know about this EVERYONE thinks that they have to "get on the NBN" thanks to your favourite governments, because they spend so much money for a crappy service they need to see a $$$ return and at the same time pay that CEO millions of dollars.

So if more competition the better, put your address in there and if you can get it GO for it, NBN is piss poor (unless it is FTTP, but then it's $$$$)

  • Is the 100/40 using G.Fast too?
The signup page seems to be saying it is using VDSL2+

    • +2

      No 100/40 is VDSL2+ technology

Cheaper pricing than getting from TPG/iiNet/other resellers
Also transit is better and not all going through USA

And tech support is much better than TPG if you need it

      • Thanks buddy

      • Hi @Turd, it looks like there is some sort of referral program. I am thinking about signing up to the 250/40 plan.
Are you able to send me a code or something for the referral?

        • I actually found out my place can not sync for gfast so I'm not a member. All good. I guess.

          I'm super bummed :(

          • @Turd: Oh no, that's not good.

Hopefully I can get it, otherwise, back to VDSL2+ I guess

            • @67Gateway: Capti have VDSL which is cheaper than TPG but it uses CGNAT so if you require a IP it willl cost extra $10

Ive stuck with TPG @ the told price of $74.99
