    Omg so cheap. Curvy too..
Is this an upgrade or downgrade from my current $220 Phillip 32" 4K from ozb deal?
I don't game, only office works multiple spread sheets, chromes

    • +10

stick to your 32" 4K for productivity and multiple spreadsheets

    • -6

      Resolution is worse:

      4k: 3840x2160 on a 32" screen
      Wqhd (this deal): 3400 X 1440 on a larger 34" screen

      • The screen is not larger, just wider. It is in fact smaller.

      • +4

I think Pixels Per Inch (PPI) is the metric you’re referring to, not resolution

        • @bopter12, you're right! For office use, I'd say the original 4k monitor might be better.

    • +2

It would be a downgrade but could be worth seeing if you wanted more horizontal or vertical real estate. 21:9 will let you get more spread sheets side by side and still be able to read them but you'll technically have less screen real estate overall.

      • +2

Ok then thanks. I'm happy with 60hz as well so will stick with Phillip

      • +5

If you mounted it 45 degrees angle, you could have more diagonal real estate.

      • Theres no scenario where the WQHD would show you "more spread sheets". The resolution on the 4k is superior in every way

    • I prefer my 34" screen for work as it's better for having dual windows onscreen (for me). Your experience may differ though as you probably get more vertical visibility on the 32".

      • +1

Same! Using the tiling keyboard shortcuts makes changing your layout to suit the work you're doing a breeze.

      • hey what model do you have?

        • Using 34" Xiaomi - note that I do not recommend this model. The screen has weird lighting. In future, I wil only buy IPS.

    • -1

      Curvy too

      Do you prefer curvy models?

      • -6

Yes. Female models to be exact. Young and cute.

When was this Phillips deal? I need to buy two.

      • While ago. Just search here to find the store and go see if they have stock but not at that 220 price

    VA Panel.

  • +19

As an owner of a VA gaming panel for the last 3 years, hard to recommend it at any price to be honest.

    • +7

Cheapest IPS monitor I could find with same specs currently is $790. IPS is great but they basically sell themselves out of the market for most people the extra cost is hard to justify.

      • +1

There's often 1440p144 UW IPS panels around 500. Also, VA black smear is horrific on anything that's not a 240hz samsung fastVA, 144hz VA nearly has worse motion clarity than 60hz IPS.

        starry sky in game
        move the mouse
        stars disappear

I'd say avoiding that is worth extra.

        • +1

Do you know which models go for around $500?

    • +1

      What’s the issue with VA?

      • +4

Not OP, but I used a cheap VA panel for a while. Black smearing was distracting when scrolling or panning camera in game, and VRR would result in a noticeable backlight flicker which gave me a headache. I moved to IPS and haven't looked back.

        • +4

Then you needed to get a monitor with a good quality VA panel. It sounded like the panel in the monitor you had was crap low quality.

For example try find one with say a Samsung VA panel and it will be better. Then again chances are this Lenovo monitor has a Samsung VA panel.

          • +2

@hollykryten: There's definitely a big variation in quality/performance between different VA panels, just wanted to add that Samsung are not beyond producing some really crap ones.

          • +1

@hollykryten: Samsung were the ones making the problematic VRR flicker panels found in a lot of entry level 34' monitors. They do make a few very high end VA panels with good response times though.

Just check each individual panel on monitors unboxed or another detailed review site.

          • @hollykryten: You're not wrong — as I said, it was a cheap screen. But I wouldn't expect much better from this panel given the price, and the limited reviews available seem to bear that out, reporting noticeable black smearing and flicker.

At the time I was looking, pretty much all the VA panels which had reviews indicating less severe black smearing — mostly higher end Samsungs — were often more expensive than IPS. Those higher end panels might be a worthwhile option if you prefer VAs characteristics, but my suggestion is to steer away from the cheaper VA panels like this one since it's a bit of a minefield.

          • @hollykryten: Even the 240hz samsung VA panels have motion clarity on par with $200 144hz 1080p IPS panels, you can see this in any motion blur test.

The high end samsung panels in the G7 onwards are fairly usable (just don't expect actual 240hz), the G5 and below are completely unusable.

            • @HPdeskjet: I've only got a 165hz Samsung VA panel in my MSI 27" 1080p gaming monitor. And i can't say that i've had issues with black smearing.

      • I have the first gen Samsung G7 Samsung Odyssey 27inch 240hz 1440p model.
I paid around $1000 for it (crazy to think about now)
It used to be the jack of all trades, master of none. At the time VA was the only way to get decent image quality at high refresh rates. However over the last few years IPS panel tech leapfrogged VA panels.

The biggest cons I am aware of and can back up from my own usage.
        Worse Colour than IPS
Scan Lines when using it for normal use
        Pretty bad blacks
I also have a green static pixel in an annoying spot.

Could be wrong but I think Samsung have a monopoly on curved VA panels so all these problems will probably show up on any make/model.

        • IPS definitely hasn’t leapfrogged Samsungs high end VA panels.

Your G7 actually has pretty great contrast, around 3x as much as Nano IPS

        • i have a G7 32", best monitor ive ever owned, no issues here…

maybe you got a bad one…

      • +1

Nothing inherintly wrong with VA panels, but cheap VA panels can get really bad, whereas cheap IPS panels are still quite good. Although cheap IPS panels seem to be harder to come by compared to when I was shopping for them ~3 years ago.

General issues with cheap VA panels, bad viewing angle, bad colour, bad pixel response. Good VA panels mitigate all of that, but still have significantly worse viewing angle compared to IPS. VA panels also have the added benefit of having a much better contrast ratio (important if you want to take advantage of HDR) and better uniformity. Bad uniformity on IPS panels start to become noticeable around 34" and gets quite bad when it comes to large TV's

      • i just grabbed the dell ultrawide, it has horrible black smearing, like if you scroll its as if a todlers painting a wall with crap, then it disappears

  • Great price

  • +1

No USB-C but great price nonetheless.

Should be mandatory to include panel type in the title of all monitor deals.

      • No it's 160hz

34WR50QC-B from the link you posted is 100Hz but now I see you're not talking about the main link from that post

    • Probably. But getting last weeks lotto numbers would be a better use of your time machine.

      • +3

I'm just surprised how many up votes this had compared to the lg.. it made me a little perplexed. That is all

        • You are absolutly correct. I would have chosen the LG if I had to choose between the two as well.
          Its that wierd OZB X-factor…

      • whats the dif between the two? I'm thinkin LG one just for HDR but would like to know

      • Yeah unfortunately the LG went down to $349 with $50 voucher. That deal was probably one of the best monitor deals outside the lucky few who got those super cheap dells

  • Would be great if IPS

    • At this price point for IPS 144hz you will only get a 27" monitor.

  • This? Or alternative 34in curved monitors? - suggestions? Budget $450.00

  • +1

How does this compare to the lg 34wp60c-b which is going for $399?

  • +1

It's 3440 wide not 3400, Officeworks have it right in the specs but wrong in the description

  • Does this work with macbook?

  • Bought one of these back in 2021 for just under $500. Do not regret it at all, cannot go back to a single, flat screen.

Wondering if I should get another and put them side by side… haha

    • That's the plan! :) Great price.

  • Doesn't allow me to login. Tried 2 stores in Vic. Called store. They said none available 😔

    • Can you select in store pickup at your local store even if it's not showing as currently in stock there?. As even if it's not in stock at the store it should backorder it for you and get it shipped to the store for pickup at a later date when the item arrives.

You see it's showing as not available at my local store. But it's giving the option to select Click & Collect at the store with an estimated collection on Wed 20 Dec 2023. Which means it can be backordered and shipped direct to the store with your name on the package to pickup at arrival.

  • Can you divide the ultra wide screen like having dual monitors? What about if you plug a laptop and desktop at the same time?

    • not on this one

really while you can do it on some UW's, ive yet to see anyone actually do it in real life, it is arguably better to use a normal dimension screen and just switch inputs….

  • -6

Would never buy an ultrawide as normal everyday user, for one thing you waste a shittonne of screen space when viewing web pages, unless you like seeing the page down the middle and void on either side, the theres more wasted space watching youtube and streaming. Arguably the stupidest screen format of all time

As for productivity, unless youre opening multiple docs/sheet next to each other and you enjoy constantly moving your neck because even with the curve you'll have to…

My friend bought a curved 34" UW and it was just the most ridiculous anti user screen i'd ever seen, a solution looking for a problem, i own a G7 1000R 32" monitor and its heads and above a better screen than an 34" ultrawide, at a normal distance from the screen all i see is flat usable space - right to the edges

They'd have to pay me to take one….

    • +3

Massive old man yells at cloud energy in this comment. It seems like you don't play video games and often only have one window open on a single monitor. I usually have 3-5 windows open for development work on my 34" UW and the extra screen real estate is seriously useful. I would otherwise have to have a second monitor which I've found to be more cumbersome in multiple ways.

      • -2

person completely ignores sentence outlining the benefits - nto the forst to ignore what i wrote for the (self-perceived) joy of red mist replying

i quote (myself) :"As for productivity, unless youre opening multiple docs/sheet next to each other and you enjoy constantly moving your neck because even with the curve you'll have to…"

and screams at old man, or more correctly the void because youve just own goaled yourself

    • +2

The Ultrawides are great for video editing and editing in general. I personally prefer a 32" as it feels bigger to me but there's definitely a space for Ultrawides there's a reason they are so popular.

    • -2

Sound very much like you have never used one yourself to form an opinion based on anything worthwhile.

You would be more convincing if you simply didn't like it for whatever reasons you have after testing… But anybody who's used an ultrawide seems to overwhelmingly say the opposite…

      • -2

i clearly stated i have in fact used one….my friends….its in plain actual english, right there…

  • I got an few years old viewsonic 27inch 2k. Nowhere near gaming spec. Got a new PC- guess this will be a good upgrade?
My wife n me normally sitting next to each other watching TV shows on PC- is the curved gonna affect that if you not sitting in the middle?

    • The curved will definitely affect viewing

    • It's 1500r which is fairly curved. It suggests a 178 degree viewing angle but I don't know man I'd so go 1800r or flat..

      • Thanks mate. Got the lg one which is 1800R. $399 not too bad I guess.

  • If you still can, pretty sure the dell s3422dwg is better at the$450 price mark.

    • What makes you say that? Not saying it isn't, just trying to compare.

      • hdr10 on the dell, 99% sRGB (lenovo is 72% ntsc which is similar), higher brightness, more ports (usb & display).

Also heard QC on Lenovo has been poor, lots of RMA for deadpixels.

Lenovo has 1500R if you want curvier than dells 1800r

    • Where is the dell @ 450? :O

  • How does this compare to the LG 34WQ650 IPS panel ?
