    Yeah but it's Harvey Norman.

I’ve read this so often on ozb - could you please explain to all of us who may be wondering why all the Gerry hate?

      • +12

i think the hate comes even before covid but during covid everyone got even more reasons to hate him. he took job keeper fundings that was meant for small businesses and brag about his rise in revenue during covid period after.

It's like Bezos is somehow a saint and doesn't do anything dodgy or hoards wealth? (obviously he does both)

It's so bizarre, weird lil ozbargain cognitive dissonance.

        • This. Besides the Big Pharma, Bezos was the biggest beneficiary of COVID and the global response.

        • +12

Gerry went out of his way to make us pay more for goods ordered from overseas so he could line his pockets.

            • @mish.kebab: I am not offering a defence of Amazon, just noting the direct lobbying in Australia by Gerry that raised the ire of this community as it not just increased the price of some products bought overseas, but caused some retailers to entirely stop selling to Australia.

Amazon is far from perfect, but very little in that list impacts me.

              • @greennick: My personal philosophy is more aligned with the minimisation of overall harm rather than the minimisation of what impacts me directly.

                • @mish.kebab: My personal philosophy is more aligned to buying from where is cheapest and most convenient for what I want.

                  • @greennick: That seems to be the prevailing perspective, which is arguably why companies like Amazon have a stranglehold on a non-insignificant amount of western economies.

                    • @mish.kebab: there's nothing wrong with ethical shopping, not knocking you for it

                      • @greennick: not knocking either ethical or unethical shopping (wouldn't consider myself deserving of such moral arbitration), merely observing the lack of hatred for Bezos vs Harvey despite valid criticisms for both sides.

              • +5

@greennick: I wouldn't want to work for Amazon as it sounds like a terrible environment, but I will say that they make the buying experience about as good as it can be. You get what you order, quickly, well tracked, and if there's anything wrong you just print a label and stick it in a postbox and get your money back (quickly).

Gerry is an arsehole AND the customer experience sucks.

                • @macrocephalic: I'm not sure that a poor customer experience is worth losing 6,500 jobs (source: Googled it) to an already behemoth multinational and driving out healthy local competition; which would arguably negatively impact our already difficult-to-predict economic situation.

                  • @mish.kebab: You don't think it was worth people losing their jobs because of poor customer service? I'd say the opposite. I think we need to regulate business so that monopolies don't stifle competition and innovation, and properly tax the rich so that money gets redistributed, but I think that better service is an "innovation" we should embrace.

          • @greennick: and our dear politicians gave in.

      • +15

Originally, GST didn't apply to imports under $1,000, as it was recognised that any scrap of tax raised from that would barely break-even with the cost of administration and compliance, and only cause inconvenience to everyone involved.

Gerry, being a POS that didn't like foreign competition cutting into his profits (especially when at the time the value of the Australian dollar was matching or higher than the US dollar), lobbied for state and federal gov to remove that threshold.

He won, and since then has proven even more what a POS he is with the Jobkeeper fiasco.

Also, maybe competition has forced them to change in more recent years, but in the past many Harvey Norman store acted as detached franchisee. That meant if you had any issues with a product, you had to go back to the specific store you brought it from, and other stores will refuse to offer you credits or exchange (nevermind a refund).

Feels like they still have this problem. I had an issue with a purchase from them about 1 year ago. Made an online order, turned up to their store only to find out that it is opened.

I said no, give me brand new. They told me they would allocate stock at another store, but never did. So I asked for my money back 1 weeks later when i realised they didn't do shiot. Said they couldn't because it was made online and they cant do squat about it.

Took about 2-3 months before I got my money back, despite chasing it up constantly

        • People acts like hes bad, because of the scale he does it, nothing more. Has anyone rejected a claim they can make? Just read the OZB comments about various things.. some people are a lot worse

Yeah, his comments about homeless people were the final straw for me.

  • +15

Yeah but they will try to sell me a $200 monster hdmi cable with the buds

    • +3

      Only $200?!
My local HN quoted me $350 for an Monster 16K HDMI 3.8 cable

  • Decent deal, hoping for a deal on buds 2 pro. It's only $100 off atm

  • +4

Yeah but I don't want to give them web traffic to price match elsewhere

  • +3

FYI - You can mix and match the colours, you don’t have to get both the same colour unless depends on preference :)

  • Anyone can share how these are? Especially compared to the buds2 pro or other competitors?

    • +6

I had buds2, buds2 Pro, and now these FE

didn't like buds2 Pro at all, didn't like design, and couldn't get a good seal on them whatever tips I used - FWIW, others said could try other custom tips, but I didn't bother, returned

buds2 used for a year+, they were great, stayed in ear well, had great seal and great ANC plus sound quality

FE's design is a bit more basic, but the fit is even better, and they deliver more bass and far better ANC compared to buds2. sound quality is very decent, not much downgrade from buds2

sold buds2 and kept FE's because of better fit and decent sound, they are my commute option. when I go out and about to enjoy music, or to listen at home, I reach out for decent over ear cans, so depends on your use patterns

      • +1

I didn't really taste the buds2 pro anc. I had a good fit and seal. I think a 3rd party foam tips may help, but yeah sold mine.

Send like buds Fe is a very good option.

        Thanks for the write up!

      • Thanks for sharing your experience
        How was calling quality?

        • call quality is good, only had people complain they can't hear me in windy environments, otherwise all good there

      • @shabaka
oh wow i was looking to get bud2 pro because of the advance features and i have samsung tv and saw this:
Switching to answer the phone works even when you're connected to a Samsung TV. Once the Galaxy Buds2 Pro are connected to the Samsung TV via Bluetooth, there is no need to take the earbuds out to answer the phone. Incoming calls can be answered simply by tapping the Galaxy Buds2 Pro twice.

        FE does that as well?

      • I recently found the way to get the perfect fit on earbuds.

Buy this or something similar https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CLNP2N2X Wrap a bit of the mixture around the tip of the closest fitting tip and fit it into your ear while it's attached to the earphone. Take it out and let it cure for a day.

There are instructions online about doing it without using the existing tip as a base, and I tried it but couldn't get a good seal like that. Using it in conjunction with an existing tip worked really well.

    'top-notch audio quality'

The heck, my order got cancelled.

Bought from them multiple times before. Did a split payment, they took my money and GC, they can't even refund the GC's promptly so I could reuse it

  • Do you think anywhere else will price match?

    • +1

No. I called The good guys (seen it cheaper? Call us…).
The person on the other end just rudely says Nope, we are not doing that!

      • I called in store and they price matched it for me. Cherry on top, I had received a $30 voucher for over $100 spend. Used that too. Two buds in $118!

  • JB Hifi told me to pound said, trying the Buy One Get One Free angle.

  • Good price, thanks Op :)

  • +8

Can confirm, JB matched it. Very happy

    • Did they give you 2 as well?

          LEGEND.

        • I just tried to get an online price match - they said no.

          • @Fasian: I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. Did you explain that you have proof of someone else getting the same discount?

            • +1

@St Nick: I think its up to the person you talk to. I started another chat, got another salesperson to price match it.

              • +1

@Fasian: Yeah true. Congrats on the get!

        • +1

Cheers for the screenshot .. got knocked back then showed this .. and got the pricematch on JB chat without having to ask another rep

    • JB matched 2 for $148 for me as well via online chat. Ready for pickup already

    • but this is two for $149

      • +11

Omg that's what BOGOF stands for !!

    • Yeah, but this one is $128… I'm surprised Amazon hasn't matched this deal yet…

  • i wonder if these will work with Playstation 5?

  • +1

These are incredible. Im an earbuds guy. Have so many its shameful.

Coming from iphone pro max to the ultra these are the airpod pro equivalent but with much better fit, and for me, as good or better ANC. Also not the shameful 4 hours with anc on. Their transperancy mode is great but the kicker for me is that they stay in for running so certainly would be great for gym etc.

They dont quite sound as good as the Soundpeats H2 (which were better than the H1 in my opinion), but mop the airpod pros. Fit is better than the jabra elite and more stable and if you leave anc off you get about 8-9 hours depending on volume.

I just bought these again so i can hook up some gifts.

    • I owned a Jabra Elite 4, but When I wear it I can hear myself running, heavy as an elephant. I can even hear my joints when I do a head turn. I would prefer the apple air pro, which doesn't have this issue.

      • Was about to ask if anyone had a comparison with Elite 4s.

So this is the better earpods? Read online that this has a lower water resistance, but how much does that matter?

    • Soundpeats h2 vs sony wf1000xm5 vs these for both fit and sound?

      • For me the xm5 and H2 have similar fit (average). XM5 Have slightly better anc but the fit on the FE is unmatched, importantly, whilst being comfortable.
If you have a samsung, it does all the fancy switching between devices etc as well.

And to answer the above post, because the FE doesnt have to sit so deep in the canal, you dont get the heart beat when training. This is huge if you exercise.

If they all cost the same its a fight, When you bring the price into its a no contest.

        • Any comments on sound quality between the three? Xm3 sound amazing to me and love the bass.

What fo you mean heartbeat when training too?

  • Ordered at 10.24am.
Just got an email from Harvey Norman it is delayed and put me on back order.
Hopefully I will get this before Christmas!

    • If you track the order on HN's website, it may give you an estimate date.

Last time I ordered something that was on backorder, it took just over 2 weeks and I still had to chase them up about my order. YMMV of course

      • Status: Backordered
Estimated to be ready delays expected. estimated arrival date is not available
        Updated on 21/12/23

  • +4

Confirmed price matched w JB chat, took 1 minute, easy as.

    • I cant get it somehow they wont let me before lucky you

      • +1

There wasn't even a back and forth just a "yep here you go" got 2 at 74$ each

  • -7

Your order is currently delayed. You’ll receive an update as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience.
    Order number: Issue date: 21/12/2023

    • +2

How is delayed order a neg vote? They obviously have a lot of orders due to BOGOF. You can always cancel it and price match elsewhere.

      • Thanks for the idea, I cancelled and bought from JB Hi-Fi :)

  • delayed, backorder…

  • +5

    Here's the trick, people.

Don't buy through Harvey Norman. Go literally ANYWHERE ELSE that does price matching.

They'll treat you with slightly more respect and won't put you on back order.

  • +1

Ordered white and black. Got 3 emails:
    -both delayed
    -white ready for collect
    -black delayed

  • Called OW, no luck. Mentioned they don't match bundle deals.

But JB matched it easily with online chat (JB Deal).
No hassle just waiting couple of minutes for approval.
It was showing stocks in my local shop, so I chose click and collect option, and it's already ready to collect (literally took 15 min from purchase)
    Invoice showing $74 per each.

    • Can you share the basket code for your order. I'm on chat with JB and they are being difficult

      • Start another chat with another sales person, they will price match it for you.

  • Thanks OP. JB Hifi matched it, paid with GCs

edit: And it seems my order is ready for collection, super impressed with JB

  • Anyone that price matched with jbhifi willing to share their basket code. The person I've got on chat is being difficult with the price match

    • Same issue, tried chat and call

      edit
Started another chat and response I got, hope you get it too
"we've just gotten comms from our head office about this one. It looks like we can do that one for you - initially we were told not to, but we can offer this now "

    • Just reset and get a new chat. 1st attempt - declined, 2nd attempt was successful.

      • Thanks! 3rd times the charm. First 2 chats was a no, but finally got through

        • Congrats!

  • +2

Thanks all, price matched with JB. PS - for those with Citi Credit Card. They are currently doing $10 cashback on purchases above $50.

  • All good. Tried again and got a more cooperative rep!

  • Price matched at JB also. Selected delivery as I couldnt be bothered driving and looking for parking spots at this time. Note, JB has cheaper delivery compared to Harvey Norman.

  • +2

Cancelled my order with Harvey as they advised it will after Christmas before I can get my order.

Tried online chat with Good Guys and again no luck. Not sure why they are so hard to deal with unlike their sister company JB.
JB Hifi price matched within 1 minute and sent me direct link.

And my order is ready to be picked up at JB! just 6 minutes after I made the purchase

    • +1

      yeah same here :)

      • +1

Same, but I only need one, bought two anyway.

Will pick up in Castle Hill today … nice last minute Christmas present

        • Wonder if some of these units will start appearing on ebay or marketplace (for those that only needed one). Perhaps broden will (or already has) setup shop. Maybe a thread can be setup for people that only needed one, in order to sell the other one to others only needing one on OzB.

        • +1

just return one, they are listed separately
