    USB 3.0 in the title

3.1 on the unit in the image

    3.2 in listing specs

Searching MUF-256DA/AM on samsung page shows it is a USB 3.1

    • these are legit very fast so I'd say 3.1 min

    • Around 100MBPS Writes
      Around 300MBPS Reads

Trash advertising if you ask me.

USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 are all interchangeable and operate at 5 Gbps
So technically all are correct. Makes it quite difficult for the consumer if you don’t know what to look for.

    $4 saving what a deal

    • I think it's implied the +$4 price is still a good price as it too was a very recent deal. I have this item and I'm not a real fan. it's fine though.

      • Why are you not a fan?

I really just thought Samsung could've thought about the design a little better. Let's assume average buyer will have a Samsung (I have 2 S22 Ultras in my family)..We can further assume most people that have a top end phone have a phone case. I'm not wanting Samsung to be able to allow for ALL case designs, bit my case is a popular one and it can't be used case on. Best you can do is an extension cable. I see a clear opportunity to have designed it so most cases could take it. Some early user testing could've picked this up.

          • @seamonkey: My small USB C, male to female cable arrived today after realising my Pixel case has the same issue. It’s not the best solution, but it beats prying the phone out of the case when you want to use the drive.

          • @seamonkey: Cant really lay the blame at the feet of Samsung, if you're going to use a Samsung phone with a Samsung USB stick, with the third party protective case being the issue.

Might find if you used the official Samsung case, it would allow for the stick to be used, though I freely admit thats a fairly long stretch to assume.
Most people will just buy an USB OTG cable.

Besides, what you see as a 'clear opportunity' equates to thousands of dollars of research, mock ups, design meetings and approvals, with a likelihood of only a 10% takeup by the most dedicated Samsunites.
People who want complete ecosystems, trend towards the IOS platform.

Comment so dumb he had to deactivate his account.

  • +7

Trying to come up with a reason to buy this, but I can't.

    • +6

Same situation but I bought one anyway

      • Ahh.. the duality of mankind

    • My new laptop has no other ports than USB C and that might be my reason.

    • +2

      type-A connection?

      It's in the title.

        • No need to be so touchy

You're the one being touchy and unfriendly so next time ask a question by typing a full sentence.

        • Yes these devices do come in an A version.

  • +3

Picked up one of the 64gb versions of this for $9 on a recent JB deal.

  • +1

$74 at JBs … wonder if they will price match

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-type-c-usb-flash-…?

    • Not from the bloke I spoke with..

      • because it's from the US not AU?

        • +1

Yes, that's what he said. I mentioned that it is found on the .au version, but I couldn't get the price match. Other people might get lucky with a different rep.

          • +2

            @Charlie Dont Surf: JB online chat: With Amazon, we are only able to price match items shipped and sold by Amazon AU. Usually you can find this information just below the add to cart button on Amazons product pages. Unfortunately, it seems like being sold by Amazon US so i wont be able to price match it, I can see what JB deal I can do or if you have another site more than happy to take a look for you}

Then rep says "I can do $54 as a JB deal today"

    • JB are useless at price matching, they'll try every excuse not to match it. I've given up even trying over the years.

  • +2

    Waiting for 2TB @$99

    • Lol, see you in 5 years later.

  • +6

Bought this from the last deal. Tested putting all sorts of files on it, as well as watching movies directly on it with my Samsung phone, absolutely no problems. Will be useful on my 30 hour flight.

    • How do you go about copying onto this from a PC? Need an adaptor? Or do modern desktops have a USB-C port?

      • I'm running a z270 board which is around 5 years old and has a USB-C port built in that I used. So, I would say most if not all modern PC and laptops have USC-C ports now.

        • My laptop does, my PC is ancient but still a workhorse and doesn't. Thanks for the info.

      • +1

my motherboard from 2016 has a usb c port, doesnt need to be that modern

  • +4

I have one. Not ideal if you have a case on your device since the drive is wider than most case usb c cutouts and will not fit

  • Good as a tesla sentry mode storage?

    • +2

I dont know what the nand lifespan of these usb sticks are.. but its pretty fast at

      Around 100MBPS Writes
      Around 300MBPS Reads

These are seriously good. Be careful with the usb lid cover. You might lose the tiny thing.

    • Agreed, but I found a way to pass a small lanyard through the lid and then attach to the body. Seems to work ok so far.

      • true that - I'm mainly storing mine in my usb. Having 256GB storage has proven super helpful especially when I was able to plug it directly into my phone to export media.

        • What phone are you using? Can you use this with an iPhone?

          • @D6C1: Maybe the 15 but I doubt it. I'm using a Samsung but order much all androids will work

            • @donman92: I have an android now and looking to move to an iPhone. Undecided on whether I get the 512Gig or 256Gig storage, hence my question. If I am able to plug a USB C into an iPhone to export files, that would be awesome and 256Gig would suffice

              • @D6C1: iOS can handle it (iPhone 15’s the only iphone with usb c) but power requirements are a factor.

Also the files app in ios is pretty ordinary tbh

                • @0jay: Hmmmm I'll just sync the camera roll to photos on my work MacBook and export that way. It's a shame Samsung removed the SD Card option from their phones after the S10+

  • Any store price match this?? Good guys, jb or harvey or bingee if someone knows if they keep this in stock

    • Let us know how you go, thanks :)

  • Are these any good as a long term backup solution, it would essentially be the 4th backup. I have ssd, nvme, and hdd. But i want to spread as wide a net as possible. Data is family photos for long term backup.

    • Long term backup is only really advisable for spinning hard drives.

There may be enterprise archive SSDs but why not use a spindle drive

    • Could is a good option if privacy is not that concerned

  • +1

Prime promo $5, brought it down to $22.56 :)

    • +1

How did you get $5 promo code?

      • Code is at the bottom of the page next to the redeem button, are you a Prime member?
