I'm sitting just over 120TB in total.

I like mirroring Aarnet for my own amusement.

    • +1

      Around 1286TB and counting.

    • +1

I was gonna flex 40TB used of 42TB total over here, but the people above have me smashed. Haha.

  • +1

The cheeky bugger put up his price $8USD.

  • +1

With how big platter drives are getting now, the rebuild times must be getting insane on arrays (and the higher the risk of a second drive failing).

  • Just me or have they suddenly setup a shopify website in response to all the email orders?

    • +1

      Yeah looks like it haha
That's pretty cool, gotta hand it to them.

  • +5
    • Really nice discount. Also 16TB- $265

    • +1

$15.88/TB gotta be a new record.

    • Comes to $195 USD, compared to $192 USD advertised. Still a good price but they're gaming the conversion rate a little.
Also wont let you do any more than 3 drives if you're planning to buy a few.

      • Still a bargain which ever way you look at it.

      • Think they will do better if you want more and mail them.

    • +1

Just placed my order for 2* 18TB. At that price ($286 each) it was to hard to pass up.

      • +1

Yeah very hard to pass up. I got 2 as well.

      • +1

I got two as well :D

Hadn't bought a new HDD in years.

If I wasn't so concerned about them either selling out or raising their prices, I would have tried to see if a few mates were interested and then asked for an additional discount.

        • +1

          Agreed. FOMO is real here,

          • @Spizz: said enormous amounts of stock available, but now says sold out

            • +1

@9hundred: Glad we got our orders in @ $286.

              • +1

@Spizz: ..paid $296, but still a good deal. They add more stock and bump up the price.

  • +1

Bought 4 drives, 3 in one purchase from their Shopify store and 1 seperate.

Will post once arrived. 4 x 18TB for a Synology nas

    • +1

Thinking of doing the same but getting 8 drives over three orders to put in a DS1821+. Just not sure if I should wait till the first three arrive just in case…

      • Reports from the last bargain show that shipping could take up to a month. But that may have been due to the Christmas period and only affected a few people. Something to factor in if you need them urgently.

        • Your lucky i got 168 x 4tb sas drives coming from USA reckon way usps works march lol.

          • @Wayne7497: How's the tax on that?

            • @shiprekt: $157.90 USD. Total price including shipping $2700.00AU so $16 Au per drive or about $4au per tb.

              • @Wayne7497: That's actually ludicrous, what a deal mate!

                • @shiprekt: Plenty more is anyone's interested.

                  4tb 72k SAS 3 , 12gbps Toshiba / Dell model # MG04SCA40ENY

              • @Wayne7497:

                168 x 4tb sas drives

                Total price including shipping $2700.00AU

Interestingly at 7.5W per drive, they're going to draw about 1.2KW in total - if they run 24/7 then at 25c per KW you're looking at almost exactly the same $2700 in annual electricity to run them 😎

        • +1

Mine took 7 days last time

      • +1

I didn't want to miss out on the deal, and there is no concrete evidence to suggest any foul miss play. Obviously Christmas period will delay delivery, but I'm confident. Drives are an absolute bargain

        • Wasn't suggesting anything untoward just setting expectations in case delays in orders arriving once posted.

        • +1

Fed Ex tracking received 24 hours after postage. Seems all four drives ( even though ordered separately due to 3 limitation). Have been shipped

          • @Squizzy: Got my tracking number to, however it seems mine is via Hong Kong Post instead of via Fedex, so it seems there is a variety of shipping methods used.

            • +1

@Spizz: Got my tracking as well but I opted for free shipping so I've got the tracking number but is still to be scanned.

Going to do another 3 this morning via express.

              • @shiprekt: Nice. Which drives are you getting?

                • +1

@Spizz: Just half a dozen 16tbs. I probably should have got the 18tbs though I was unsure if I'd have compatibility issues with my Synology

                  • @shiprekt: I’m going to be changing from DS920 to a DS1821 and I have 2 drives on the way which gives me 6 drives total. But I’ve heard changing from SHR1 to SHR2 can take a month so I’ll probably order the last 2 18TB once that’s done.

                    • @Spizz: I'm spewing I didn't pick up a DS1821 when they were on sale earlier in the month. Currently running a full DS920+ (4x10tbs) with a full DX517 (5x16tbs).

So not sure if I wait to get a DS1821 when they are cheaper or swap out the 10s with the new 16s or build something utilising something like a Fractal Node 804 and not have two Synology setups.

                      • @shiprekt: How much was the DS1821 during the sales?

                        • @Spizz: Around $1400. Not a massive sale price and definitely not the cheapest they have gone for in the past. They are around $1600-1700+ now.

Might have to play the waiting game for a better deal to arise for the 1821.

Someone got a killer deal on Amazon this year.

                          • @shiprekt: $1399 @ Centercom

                            • @Spizz: Offft great find. Surprisingly they or this didn't come up on Staticice price check site I usually use.

Got to run the numbers and see if it's worth building something this time with like a Fractal Design Node or the likes instead of having two Synology setups.

              • @shiprekt: @shiprekt - If you don't mind sharing, when did you make your order? I put mine through at 3:55PM AEDT on the 28th but have not received tracking information.

                • +1

@WeiKaiLe: My first order was 29/12 and I got tracking info on the 30/12 however it has still not been scanned yet… Just the number provided. I assume being almost New Years might be waiting a day or so until it progresses.

My second order on 30/12 has not yet been given a tracking number yet (ie no email received saying it's on its way yet).

          • +1

@Squizzy: Package out for delivery today, expecting 4 in one package as a second tracking hasn't been issued. Will confirm later today

            • @Squizzy: The joys of Fedex. Quick delivery. My order was sent via Hong Kong Post so Im expecting up to 4 weeks for delivery, though hoping its much quicker post Christmas.

              • @Spizz: So one order was fulfilled ( 3 drives) but I've received no update on my 2nd order of a single drive. Did two orders due to cart limitation. I've emailed them for an update

                • @Squizzy: Ok. Out of curiosity what date drives did you get sent?

                  • @Spizz: Is there any way of knowing that or will ED provide this if asked?

                    • @shiprekt: Doesn't hurt to ask, however with the volume of orders I 'm assuming its one of those wait and see, that's why I'm asking people that receive their orders what dates they got to get a few data points.

Tempted to order another 2 drives, however converting my Synology from SHR1 to SHR2 will take a month apparently so will do that when I receive my order and then after its done, hopefully they still have the 18TB listed at below $300 and Ill pick up a few more.

                      • @Spizz: I'm regretting getting the x16 16TBs, was thinking I might have issues with compatibility (with Synology). But maybe I should have got the x18 18tbs instead.

I've had my tracking update with Auspost now from my 29/12 order.

Yet to receive any update from the 30/12 order but being close to end of the year probably a delay.

                        • @shiprekt: I'm pretty sure you will have no issues in your Synology.

                      • +1

@Spizz: Ordered mine Thursday 28th, got it today. Drives are per the picture, June '21 DOM Thailand

Drives are a bit of a commodity item so prices go up/down depending on supply and demand. You could wait and the prices go down, or go up and you pay a bit more.

                        • @BargainKen: Last hard drive hasn't been sent, emailed through, they said they will get to it in order ( wierd cause my orders are back to back 1017 and 1018 shrugs. Awaiting last x18 18tb drive to arrive. Will update on once shipment issued

                      • @Spizz: Is there any benifet of Shr1 / 2 vs raid 5 and 6 ?.

I'm going to be setting up 4x 18tb x18s and not sure whether to go 2 drive redundancy in a 4 slot or 1

                        • +1

@Squizzy: If only four disks I'd go SHR. I'd be going SHR2 for 6 and above. Feel losing 50% with four disks is a lot.

I'm planning to have 8 drives in a 1821 and will be going with SHR2.

Have a look into it though and I guess it depends what you're storing. If it's personal stuff that irreplaceable then maybe SHR2 will give more peace of mind but yeah definitely have an extra back up if you can.

Also my order 107X has been shipped. 109X has not.

                          • @shiprekt: Interesting, they must be shipping one set of hard drives out first as my 105X order of 3 drives has sent and received (fed ex) and my 1050X single drive order hasn't been sent yet, however the email from them said please be patient

                            • @Squizzy: Update this morning from Auspost, both my orders are set to arrive today.

Frustrating as I paid express for the second order and it's arrive the same time as the free order. As in the order with free postage is arriving the same time. So I feel I paid $30 express for nothing! Haha

                              • +1

@shiprekt: That is good news that the free shipping was that fast and while it sucks to have spent the money unnecessarily, on the positive side, at least your free shipping items have shipped. I ordered the day before you and no tracking information yet.

I contacted them and they have said to be patient as they have a large number of orders to work through. It appears they are not necessarily going through them in order though.

                                • +1

@WeiKaiLe: Yeah, I've posted at the bottom of this deal, looks like mine have come from local (ie not from HK). Sender has listed a Po Box in Silverwater.

                                • +1

@WeiKaiLe: My last shipment was sent today By HK post ( first was by fed ex) single drive making a total of 4 👌

                                  • @Squizzy: Nice, hope it arrives safely to you. I've got my fingers crossed today is the day for my shipment to finally progress to shipped and receive tracking. My server is down to about 170GB free so hoping it gets moving soon!

                  • @Spizz: I'm not home at the moment on site, but I can get the Mrs to snap a photo if you'd like mate

                    • @Squizzy: No rush. Just for a data point. What Synology do you have?

                      • @Spizz: Synology 918+

Drives are June 21 DOM if you need more information let me know I have a photo.

  • no stock

  • Direct link if anyone missed it..

    https://www.eastdigitalhk.com/collections/all

    • I asked them to put up more stock of the 18tb. Currently says "sold out"

      • ordered thank you.

  • 18tb exos are back in stock.

Edit: Price has gone up to $293 from $286

    • +1

      Dollars dropping against US

      • It would appear so, from $276 to $286 to $293.

        • +2

Nah be bumped up the drive another $4 USD, $196 USD now, likely due to the popularity. Dollar has barely moved in the last day. Again not gonna break the bank but just noticing a trend with ED of a lot of little cheeky price-bumps when items get popular.

          • +1

@BargainKen: Agreed. Seems like opportunistic price rise.

  • With these new items added, I wonder if I should have gotten 4x used 14TB HC530s for a ZFS within it's own station instead of the 2x new 18TB exos 18. At first when I was looking at them, I'm like "What the (profanity) why are they selling HC550s so cheap!" After 20 minutes of back and fourth of pages I realized that they have used in their description.

I saw some listings before for used 20TB exo 20s for like 250ea w/ a 2yr warranty, maybe if I could have justified getting a third or fourth for parity repairs, I might have stuck my toe in the used market.

    • Not that I purchased used drives due to the risk, but where did you see the 20TB for $250? Agreed ref HC550. They have been $$$ for a while now. Maybe a shortage on stock supply.

      • On one of the HDD deal posts today I clicked on one of the recommended/alternative choices at the bottom. I think it might have been Ebay from this page's deal closer to when it got put up.
I kept the tab open until I finalised my HDD transaction from earlier.

        • Probably in USD

          • @BargainKen: No. It clearly does the conversion on the page and shows both values, not the kind of mistake that would happen.
I think it was two sixty something.

  • +1

Thanks OP and others for the shopify link - dipping my toe with Seagate after a long time with WD.

Have 36 Terra inbound, as it was too hard to pass up even at the 'higher' $294 price

    • Nice. This high price is still a bargain.

  • +1

For those that receive the X18 EXOS - what is the DOM - date of manufacture?

  • I’m putting in my Australian address to the Shopify website and it’s saying that they won’t post here.

    • +2

Try again with a lower number of drives.

      • Ah cheers

      • Free shipping. Is that right?

  • I downloaded the SHOP app to track my order, but it's not showing anything, and it can't find any previous orders from my email?…………..

    • My SHOP is still showing the order and tracking within.

      • hmmmmmmm sus

        • Just use the tracking number on its own either via Australia Post website or via 17track or via the Hong Kong Post website. Unless you got lucky and got Fedex delivery in which case check the Fedex website.

          • @Spizz: The thing is that I didn't get a tracking number. Just an order number. "Thanks for your order, download SHOP to track it"
