ASUS Zenbook 14 WQXGA Laptop Ryzen 5 7530U/16GB/512GB $1159 + Delivery @ Aus PC Market

142

Hey OzBargainers, I recently purchased this Asus Laptop from Officeworks with a price match for my sister. I thought this was better than the acer deal going on at OW. This laptop is 90hz vs 60hz Acer and I thought both were comparable but this had better build quality & better battery according to a few reviewer outlets online. I think it's a good laptop for uni/school as it starts. Enjoy :)

(According to some it may be a slightly different model, I got it price matched successfully, hopefully you get it too)

Here are some reviews from some outlets:

Product details on ASUS website

Mod: Model numbers for AusPCMarket and Officeworks are different so price matching may or may not work

Is this better than the Acer Swift Go 14" Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 model?

    • I think it's personally better, they are comparable and if you are after saving money go for the Acer. But I think Asus as a brand is better and the battery tests reviewed online showed this lasted much longer (4 hours or so longer than the Acer)

      • I don't mind spending a bit more for a better product especially when I'm going to have it for a couple of years. This is about $100 less than the Ryzen 7 Acer Swift Model? Should I go for a better processor over battery life.

        • Its hard to say, it really depends on your use case. Are you a gamer, are you doing alot of programming, are you just casually web browsing and making notes? Also personally I would go better battery life only because it fits the use case I bought it for. Running it at university going to 1 or 2 lectures or the whole uni day without worrying about where the next wall outlet is. I think for taking notes, web browsing and some photo editing this does the job nicely.

          • @Shashii: Not much of a gamer but may play some light or medium games. The most heaviest games will be Civ 5/6. I would be using for web browsing/general notes but I would need it to run Adobe softwares and some programming ones as well.

            • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: in that case maybe future proof and accept the lower battery life since it isn't a big concern and go with the Acer Ryzen 7 or the Asus ROG deal that was posted earlier with a Ryzen 9.

If you're lucky and you're able to find this in store, this is a good laptop too!

It was in my local OW but I choose to go with R5 based on what my sister needed

              • @Shashii: Thank you OP for so much help. I appreciate it. I am not a fan of gaming laptops as I find they are bulkier, heavier and less portable as well as generally having a weaker battery life. I wish there was a cheaper 512gb option for that but that is fine. I noticed that this is the same price as the HP Pavillion Plus 14". I will look into both of these and see which is the better product.

This is zen3 processor vs zen4 in acer. Zen 4 is almost half the size (better thermal/efficiency properties) and has a bettery GPU 680m.

        • +1

Yes but there are many things that make a great laptop. Like the battery, the screen, the keyboard, the trackpad, the build quality. All of which I think are quite good in this laptop in comparison to the options out there. So I think this deal still stands amongst the other laptop deals out there.

      Zen 4 vs zen 3

      • AMD Ryzen™ 5 7530U Mobile Processor 2.0GHz (6-core/12-thread, 16MB cache, up to 4.5 GHz max boost) I think is the exact processor name. I don't have the laptop on me right now to check

      • +1

As far as I can tell, Zen 4 is the current model and are the 7000s while the Zen 3 is the previous one at 5000. This appears to be a Zen 4. I don't understand what you are comparing to?

        • +6

7530U is a Zen3 part as AMD has gone with a rather misleading laptop CPU naming scheme.

          • @iPodVideo: Sorry, you are correct. I was using Wikipedia as my source as just guessed that 7530u was a Zen 3. Is the Zen 3 still worth it in 2024, considering it a 3 year old model?

I now realise this isn't 3 years old. I am incredibly confused.

            • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: It's intentionally confusing. Amd refreshed their 5000s cpus as 7000s. This way, they could sell it as a lower market option but still looks new.

Zen 3 is fine perfectly fine. The you're paying for the form factor and the oled screen. 90hz is a weird choice though, given the cpu.

@Wonderfool: Should I go for the Acer model then as it has Zen 4 for $100 more?

                • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: Without being able to see the full spec of the Acer, I trust zenbook more, and this one has 75whr battery which is huge for a 1.3kg laptop. That's about 8 hours of average SoT and probably 3 hours of gaming.

But, if there is a zen 4 model of this (or zen 3.5 for that matter), I'll probably buy it in a heart beat. Zen 4 isn't that huge of an upgrade, it's the gpu department that matters. This is enough for civ 6, but a zen 4 gpu would be able to use less battery to play it.

                • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: If you are comparing like for like the Acer is cheaper.

$997 for the model with Ryzen 5 7640U

The Acer seems to be better in almost every way. Better screen, better CPU, lighter, cheaper. Only things against it is smaller battery (which is why it's lighter), and intangibles. It is an Acer vs a Zenbook. There must be something to be said about the build quality of Zenbooks, and the Zenbook 14 features in lists for best laptops of 2023.

                  • @horseshoe: Thank you for the reply. The battery has a lower estimate but it should be fine. I've been researching and Zenbooks are higher build quality and feel while Acer feels a little cheaper but still somewhat premium. I can get either the Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 5 Model as I need one of them that can run Adobe software's, some programming software's, and light to medium gaming. Would buying the Ryzen 5 and using a power bank work as a cheaper substitute. That is what I am currently using right now to help my laptop stay on charge for the whole day. For another 400 dollars (or $200 if getting Ryzen 7 model) or so, would it be better to get this: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/asus-14-ze… or the HP Pavilion Plus fo $1360
                    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/822467

                    • @NotReallyaMoneySaver: I don't use my laptop regularly on battery, so I can't comment much on that. Final decision will have to be yours.

Ironically if battery life matters a lot to you an OLED screen might be a disadvantage since they use more power.

                      • @horseshoe: Battery life does matter but it should be able to last atleast 8 hours minimum with a couple hours to spare. I've heard OLED is better but runs the risk of burn in and uses more battery however the battery can be remediated by using dark mode which I already do.

I currently own a 20000 mAh power bank that I am currently using for my laptop as it struggles to do a full day (8 hours) without it. Using the power bank on the Acer is just a safety precautions and the laptop should have a decent battery for atleast 2 years before it starts to not work as well. I shouldn't need it for a while. Thank you for all your help though.

  • Good one

    • Hey Raj09, I noticed you had bought the Acer model. Which one did you buy and how well does it run and does it struggle with anything.

I got the same laptop for my wife recently, and I do love the product - but just a quick note to people who may not like fingerprint marks: this will attact a lot of fingerprints on the back so be prepared for that.

I'm thinking of getting a skin for it.

Maybe I am looking at the wrong part of description, but the one at AusPCMarket is not OLED. For this model ASUS website says:
    Display
    14.0-inch, WQXGA (2560 x 1600) 16:10 aspect ratio, IPS-level Panel

    https://au.store.asus.com/zenbook-14-um3402yar-kp563w.html

    Am I wrong?

    • yeah the one on asus is correct. So it doesnt have oled screen. its IPS.

  • +1

Apparently OW model is KN465W which has a better screen resolution of 2880x1800 (from its Tech Spec).

Most likely OW wont pricematch as the model numbers are different

    • I was able to which is why I posted the deal here. I just showed them the listing and they looked through the product page and business details. Hope that helps Good luck 👍

  • This model in AusPCmarket is not bad, but there was a deal from Bing Lee few months ago with Ryzen 7 and OLED for 1132$. Still waiting for similar deals.
Acer deal is good in terms of spec, but mixed reviews about build quality and hinges reliability.
My personal preference is to go with ASUS. Bought Zenbook for my son 3 years ago and happy with it.

  • Product code doesn’t match Officeworks

  • doesnt show all specs.. I would be mindful.

    • I doubt this is the only store that sells it. You could probably find another store that sells the same device and may price match.

      • From the above comments this model is IPS display not OLED.

how is this a bargain? and why are people upvoting this? Simply going to the list of laptops in ozbargain will show anyone that there are much better laptops available around this price point.

    • -2

Just because this might not be the best deal, it is still a bargain nonetheless.

      • +3

a 2 year old machine with zen 3 and on top of that a R5?? Not a bargain at all. Not even a zen 3 R7, what are you on about?

  • Was in jb today. Check the almost identical model out (CPU the same). Man it's a warm laptop underneath. Checked a few different models, that was the only one that was hot… Real shame. Maybe firmware may fix that hear issue.
