I just bought a MacBook Air M2 for my grandson for school using my 15% off apple cards that I purchased last March and got the $240 gift card. My daughter ordered an iMac a couple of weeks ago and received it last week so I told her to call Apple and try and get the $240 apple gift card offer and Yes they are emailing it to her so worth you calling Apple to get the same result.

      • Yup this worked for me too, I just joked "do I have to return it and order it again?" And they sorted it out, just need to wait a few days for the egc to be emailed.

After stacking with hed-store, discounted gc's and GST refund, got $900 off my M2 air, makes me feel less guilty not springing for the M3 pro.

        • Have you received the email for the gift card?

  • Need recommendation on which iPad to buy. Wife needs one for designing etc.

    • +3

Really only you and your wife can answer that.

How much storage do you need?

Are you willing to pay more for the newest model to get longer software updates?

What “designing” apps will you be using? Do they need a higher spec model?

For me personally, I like the 10th Gen as middle ground between cheap and insanely expensive.

But I also understand getting the 9th Gen as it’s a great buy (if you accept support will most likely run out earlier).

      • Would you know, what's better for designing with iPad 10th Gen, Pencil 1st Gen or USB C

  • anyone going for MBA M2 13" with 16gb ram?

    • +3

      I’m sure someone is.

    • I’m considering it but will go for the 15”

  • Is the GC issued instantly?

    • should be, it gets added to the cart when you add an eligible device

    • No it is emailed with 24 hours of shipping or pick up.

  • +2

I could buy the current base model Mac Mini for $829 with $160 gift card. I currently have the old 2018 model which doesn't have the new chip, so I'm wondering if it's worthwhile upgrading? Looks like I could probably sell the old one on eBay for ~$400.

    • +4

You'd be VERY surprised by the improvement from Intel -> Apple Silicon! Do it! Do it! :)

      • I would 100% agree. The difference is enormous.

        • Are the gift cards transferable? I don't need anything else from Apple but a family member might…

          • +1

@Sweet3st: Yes. It’s a regular digital gift card.

      • I was sceptical about it but I was blown away

a base M1 air (8gb ram) beat my i7-1260p 64gb 3050ti photo editing laptop in the same application hands down! plus lasted 5 times longer

    • +1

The M3 model should be coming this year if you’re not in any rush to upgrade or need the gift card.

    • Happy to take your 2018 mac mini :)

      • Make me an offer 😉

  • i just bought an ipad 10th gen on 26th Dec (instore using education account) , how can i get 'something' from this $120 cake?

    • Return it and order again.

      • have already opened it.

        • Apple store usually good with returns even with open box

          • @mrfuku: thanks. will try

            • @10muscat: You 100% can return used and open products. It’s meant to be used as a sort of trial period to see if you like the product after actually using it.

    • +3

Hey mate, I did the exact same thing. I called the support number and they gave me the gift card without needing to return. I just mentioned I was inside the returns window and they hooked me up.

      • What's the support number you have called.. I will try my luck..

        • 133-622. Cheers!

      • Did you receive the gift card straight away or you had to wait? It's been 4 days and no email yet.

    • +2

  • +1

I believe the discounted price is for everyone not just for students and teachers.

    • What privileges do teachers get in this society?

    • +1

No not meant to be for everyone, only students and teachers.

  • +1

So does this mean no Free AirPods promo this year?

    • +1

This is better, most have AirPods now. If you don’t then buy them with the GC.

  • how come when i shop from here: https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5002569/store
    i can't see the $240 gift card…

or can i call support and ask for gift card once i bought it?

    • +2

Will show up at checkout page

    • +2

Gift Card will only appear in checkout if you use https://www.apple.com/au-hed/store

      • +2

so it means that it only works on that edu store and nothing else :(

    • That the AOC not the Apple Education site so you don’t get the gift card when buying from AOC.

  • +1

Wait for CR or SB boosted cashback. likely within 1 month with other ~80 buck savings for iPad Air 5th.

  • +1

Does this mean new ipad expected just after march?

    • +1

most likely the day after 😂

  • Sorry guys - so the best way to save even more is go to Coles… buy Apple GC / Apple gift cards and in doing so I would accurate a ton of points via the 20% fly point bonus that is on at Coles….and then use the those gift cards to pay for my Mac product?

Sorry I am very very very new to this…

    • +2

      yes,

it's 20x flybuys points which equates to around 10%

apply the cards to your account, check out with account balance

      • Thank you

But is there a cap on the amount of value or number of gift cards I can use to buy my MacBook?

        • +1

no, load the GC to your account first

          • @impoze: Thank you 😊

            • +2

              @MediumsizeTony: Add a couple more steps :

              1. Click on Cashrewards cashback FIRST, before buying. You'll get 1.3% (of the pre-GST price) back in cashback.

              2. Plan an overseas trip, claim TRS cashback on the GST.

  • +2

OP can you add this link for 20x flybuys (1/3/23-9/3/23)

  • Shame I'm quite happy with my iPad, they don't have AirPod Pros and we just got a new MacBook a month ago :{

    • Just got some airpod pros (gen 2 w/ USB C) from Officeworks

      Pricematch costco $319
      -5% pricematch guarantee

-15% giftcard (online ones from a few months ago)
Total paid: $258 ($303 worth in gift cards)

      • Problem is I just got rid of Pro Gen 1 - and like, Gen 3 is gonna come sooner or later.

  • Anyone going for M1 MBA?

While it's an old design and model, still seems like good value after all discounts.

Will be updating mrs from 2013 MBA to this one. For her purposes should be plenty.

    • +2

Thought about getting M2. I concluded to buy M1 air to maximise the return. The higher you pay less discount you’d get with the gift voucher fixed at $240. Cheap

    • +2

M1 MBA is awesome. I had one for a month - was my first Apple M processor experience. it blows anything x86 out of the water. lasts forever. great screen and build. better speakers than M2 13. just get one, you won't regret it. performance wise M1 -> M2 was very incremental. M1 was a big leap forward

the only reason I parted with mine is because it was the base model (8 / 256) and I want to use mac for photo editing. 13 inch felt a bit claustrophobic with all the pro photo editing tools, and it was bogging down in my editor anyway. so I returned it, and decided to get something with 16GB at least, and ended up grabbing Apple Certified Refurbished MBP 14 with M1 pro 16 / 1TB but that's a different story. similarly specced out airs were approaching that price anyway, and MBP crushes them value wise with better screen - speakers - ports - performance across the board, and I went for that instead. no regrets!

MBA M1 is great for the missus however. can handle anything she throws at it with ease, is comfy and stylish, lasts forever, what else is there to want

  • Waiting for this or better. Looking to buy MBA 15

    .

  • If I choose to collect in store will I need to show student ID to get the GC?

    • +2

      GC is emailed

  • A note that this promotion expires in March, hence it's not worthwhile flipping to kids needing them to start school or uni. Unless you think they won't know better.

  • Mac mini M2, 8gb, 256 gb $795, then priced match with JB, Dandenong South over the phone.

    https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5000447/shop/buy-mac/mac-mini

    https://ibb.co/TwmrzP7

Will bring it down further 10 percent via woollies TNC card rewards.

    • Surprised that JB price matched AOC. How’d you manage to pull that off?

      • +2

I chat with JB and asked me to call store as they can't verify student ID. Then called my favourite Dandenong South, VIC store. This store is really good and try their best to get best discount for customer. Anyway, the guy told me that he will need a copy of student id, I agreed and asked me to email the link where I saw $795. I emailed him while in a call, he generated the link and texted me. He didn't ask me to email student ID. Yeah, that's pretty much the story.

        • Thanks for sharing. A lot of folks around here are life-long "students of life" without a student ID, so this method might not work for most.

    • What's the difference between the AOC store and the Education Store? Do you get the gift card from AOC? Confusing…

      • +1

        As I understand:
AOC = AU Australian Education Union Store — You won't get the gift card if you order online via AOC.
Education store = All Uni Students and High Education department store.

      • +1

No gift card when price was $795. So I price matched with JB to get extra 10 percent off via TCN GC. Also I had a few JBH GCs that I could use and get instant real $ savings.

  • Yesterday was charged the purchase price and overnight another charge for the gift card value of $240. No email about this from apple as yet

    • If anyone’s interested, in the end they still charged me for the gift card but changed the amount they had pending in my credit card for the mba by the same amount. Weird but paid the correct amount in the end.

  • So AOC purchases do not qualify for the 20% off AppleCare+, am I correct?

  • Anyone know if Apple Education Store will price match Officeworks? Ipad 10th $699 vs $647 from Officeworks.

    • +1

Possibly will match price (just in standard store even) but it's very unlikely that they'll offer the GC as well - so better deal at Edu store.

  • Shopback and Cashrewards

Can either of these be used to buy a MacBook Pro m3 and get cashback? Shopback now has 5% back but in the exclusions it only mentions MacBook m2 products. So m3 is not mentioned but I have a feeling they just haven't updated it and will not honour it. Anyone have experience with this?

    • +1

ShopBack is 8% until 11pm tonight

      • The sale ended before 11pm… I tried to buy after 10pm (Brisbane time which is AEST) but the sale had reduced to 5%. I think someone messed up thinking Sydney time is AEST but it's AEDT.

Btw, just spoke with Apple Care hotline. They confirmed and double-checked that the Apple $240 gift card plus other Apple gift cards can be used to purchase AppleCare+ at an Apple Store.

        • Do you know if they’ll ask for student ID when purchasing discounted AppleCare+ in store?

  • I wonder if there's any chance they don't really check for an ID so I can buy a macbook pro.

    • no ID checks when picked up my order

  • It is 5% cashback on shopback (https://www.shopback.com.au/apple-store-for-education) and it does not seem to be a cap. Thinking about getting a macbook pro 14 m3 pro.

  • My ShopBack 8% tracked. Only $102.47 on a $1649 Macbook. Not sure how they got to this amount?

    • +2

They discount the gift card, then exclude GST. So $1649-$240, then $1409-$128.09 (GST). So 8% of $1280.91=$102.47.

      • Ahhh righto, thanks

  • Is it worth getting the iPad 10th Gen 256GB from JB given they have $100 off. Plus we can get discount GC as well to stack with that.

  • Annoying that Apple‘s invoice for a $699 iPad comes up as 2 x invoices at $579 for the iPad and $120 for the gift card. I doubt salary sacrifice and price protection will allow me to go off what I thought the purchase price was - $699….

    • So basically you purchased the iPad from Apple for $579 and also purchased the Gift Card at the same time for $120. But the way they invoiced your, There is no GST on the gift card. That is how a coporations sting the tax payers..

Someone should report this accounting wizdary to the ATO.

2nd thing = Apple no longer sells their computers and ipads at List Price on Education products! Now that's a change

    • Interesting, in that case for TRS would I claim $699 or $579?

      • TRS would only be claimed at the $579 price

        • That’s what I’m thinking. But this wasn’t apparent before I bought it, which I find annoying.

  • Is the gift card linked to the purchaser's account? Or can it be used by a different account?

    • +1

Normal gift card, just redeem to any account

  • Has anyone bought the AppleCare+ and received your 20% with this promo?

    How did you do it?

Online? From your device? Physically went into an Apple store?
