        Thx heaps Scotty!

      • Cool… I just noticed the change and kept thinking, am I seeing things ;-)

      • +1

May I suggest changing the default to light mode? There are a lot of a very confused people today - I think the switch to dark mode should be opt-in.

        • -1

May I suggest changing the default to light mode?

          No way !!!

Dark mode uses much less electricity.
Multiply that by the number of OzBargain users…

We do not want more Climate change !!!

          • +1

            @jv: Only on OLED screens…

        • +1

But guests are defaulted to light, and registered users are defaulted to their device selection, meaning if they're getting dark then that's because they've set it that way for their device already. Granted, they might be surprised to see OzBargain suddenly appearing "dark" but if that's their preference already then I can't imagine it'd be an unwelcome surprise.

So I don't understand what other default needs changing?

      • Thankyou! Nice to not get flashbanged when opening up the site.

      • I know it's deprecated, but this broke dark mode on the Android app. The deal list is fine but deal pages are incorrectly shown in light mode.

  • On the Pizza Hut store page, the coupon codes that used to be there are missing
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/pizzahut.com.au

I thought maybe they're all expired, but I tried HUT5130 (30%off) and it still works

    • Thanks. I'll fix that up tomorrow. Just need to re-test and extend expiry dates.

Can we get the default search results set as "Post Date" and not "Relevance", or have the option to set the default? For every search, I have to change it manually. Thanks

    • +3

I would prefer Relevance to be the default. So maybe the option to set or save the previous settings…

  • -5

Something that's been bugging me for a little while now.

After blocking a user, I see "Comment blocked. Show" but a lot of the time, I can't resist clicking "Show"

I want to see absolutely nothing from them after blocking a user, even replies to blocked comments.

    • +1

I think it's OK as it is, at least as the default option. Maybe there can be a "No, really, I don't want to see it" block feature, but it shouldn't be the default

    • I'm with you up until "even replies to blocked comments".

I mean, from a development perspective that'd be fantastic, because it'd be easy to trim the entire comment tree and not have to deal with censoring just one node in the middle of the branch, but I don't think you'll get anywhere near majority agreement with blocking everyone that engages with a deleted post.

      • I would comprise and simply have the Show button removed.

        • +1

Yeah I think that's fair. As with a lot of things on the site, the issue might be not having to create/maintain one interface for end-users and another for mods.

          • @zzyss: Rather, multiple interfaces to users who demand different things. Once we removed the "Show" link there will be people asking where it is, and then we'll have to create another setting option for that. Then people will want "collapse all replies by default on hidden comments" as another setting option. We basically can't and don't want to implement all the requests here.

Unfortunately we are not able to cater specific needs for all the individual, and the best approach would be not overthinking about it :)

            • @scotty: To me, it just doesn’t make much sense, I block someone but if they're a highly active user, they can (and do) have a major negative impact on the user experience.

Without going into details, I can assure you I'm not alone here.

  • Did the colour schema change for dark mode? Much much prefer the previous dark mode.

  • I'm not sure where to report a bug, but under "Category Subscriptions," when I deselect any "Deal Categories" and click "Save Settings," the checkbox remain selected after refreshing the page.

    • Sounds like you are hitting the Save Settings button within the notifications section at the top instead of the Save button at the bottom of the page.

      • Silly me! Thank you so much!

  • -2

Did anyone ever suggested negging a comment must include a comment? Like negging a deal? A chance to explain the disagreement and to correct future mistakes when the reasons are not apparent.

    • jv is going to get a ton of comment replies if that gets implemented haha

    • I think that’s overkill and will make comment threads messy

(I’m also somewhat amused that someone negged your comment)

      • Yeah, was expecting it as some will try to make a point.

        The replies are indented though.

I rarely neg comments (probably never) and possibly only negged a handful of deals.

It's more about people don't have to like it but when they don't, state a reason.

  • Are “Messages” on revisions new? Seems like a good addition. However, on mobile they appear clipped. Screenshot Link

    • However, on mobile they appear clipped

Rotate your phone with auto rotation on. I have same issue with those massive coles/woolies tables

      • Ah thanks. For some reason I had it in my head that OzBargain site wouldn’t rotate. <face palm>

    • Messages column has always been there. A lot of those large tables will get clipped on mobile. We'll need to customise them to hide some columns (like the forum tables) or wrap them into a scrollable pane.

  • Why is the notification bell icon across main bar not visible when on the 'Pages' page (and other subpages of Pages)

    • I've previously asked the same thing and this is the respond I got.

Wiki pages go through a completely different code path so some functionality can't be easily integrated. Not normal, but for now it's expected behaviour.

      • Understandable

  • Is there a way to subscribe to the category 'Toys & Kids' but also NOT receive any notifications for Lego specifically?

    • Not currently, the category subscriptions are all or nothing. Whilst you can use the LEGO tag to hide the deals showing on the new deals and front page, that won't stop subscriptions.

Hi, @scotty. A feature to sort comments by votes would be very helpful (like how Reddit does it). For example, this comment on this deal is buried deep within the comment section, but is the most helpful comment on the post!

    • Outstanding comments can be pinned to the top of the comment list.

    • This function exists already, see screenshot 'show most voted comments'.

      • -1

That's not the same function. That function lists most upvoted comments and replies; it doesn't sort by most upvoted. Sorting by most upvoted would show most upvoted comments first, followed by its most upvoted replies, and so forth (again, like Reddit). This has been requested for over a decade now, but I get it, for whatever reason, it's not a functionality mods and devs want users to have, so we're left with what we have, I guess.

  • Is there a way to see all the reminders you have set?

  • If referrals for a particular store were set as expired by Mods because the link format has changed, would it be possible for the notification to indicate this?
Just a nice 2nd prompter for people to actually open the store's site/app and get a new link.

    • It depends.

Sometimes it's due to referral program / link format changes. However we also set auto-expiry on most referral programs to get rid of older links, as many have limits on how many people you can refer. Stores don't usually disclose any changes to their customers.

So if you have received a notification because your referral has expired on OzBargain, it's always a good idea to check whether your referrals are still valid and active.

      • Thanks scotty, after you mentioned it, I do notice more stores are expiring referrals after X amount of clicks

  • Does OzBargain encourage face to face meetups?

Is there anywhere else besides posting on the site discussion forum which is buried in the forums section I can post to gain better visibility or tags I can put on (or get power users or moderators to put on)? Ozbargain18 isn't appropriate as it's for officially sponsored events.

    • No. There's nowhere else to advertise your event, and ozbargain18 tag is not appropriate for a few other reasons. If you are looking at inviting other ozbargainers for meetups, maybe you want to post up a notice days or weeks in advance rather than on the day prior.

      • -1

I realise this is too late for now but for help encouraging community or face to face meetups I am interested in this subtopic. I am interested in folksonomy. I'm replying as you haven't said Ozbargain officially discourage face to face meetups.

Sure it is late notice, sorry about that and thanks for the suggestion. I did realise that it's late notice but forgot to post something about that.

One of your power users begs to differ though as it has been tagged with Meetup. Thank you. However tags can't be subscribed to or can they? They can be via RSS Feed to emails web services I guess.

  • Merged from Qantas Marketplace Store Category?

Can we get a Qantas Marketplace store instead of it coming under Qantas?

When they have out of stock items and cancel orders they provide a 10% off code, so would love to subscribe to any deals the marketplace has but don’t want to see generic Qantas deals.

    • I would also support this.

      • +1

It’s a niche suggestion sadly so not sure how we’ll go, but for anyone with a 10% off code it’s a treasure trove.

An ozbargain worthy deal PLUS 10% off would be amazing. I have 3 codes waiting to be used from cancelled OOS orders.

    • Qantas Marketplace has been separated from the Qantas Store Page.

      • Awesome! Thanks

  • This there a way to hide or see less deals like this one? It's tagged with VIC so comes up higher for me, which I want. I've had to go to this deal to hide posts for MRC but not sure if that will work when MRC is listed as the second store. Thanks.

    • Secondary stores are really checked in this case — something that we'll need to fix.

      • Thanks

  • I was working on some theming and came across a couple of small visual bugs on competition pages. Tested with no scripts on Chrome, Firefox, Firefox for Android.

    • Screenshot Content from the 2 bottom buttons (comp-actions) under the thumbnail look misaligned. I believe some unintentional margin styling is being applied here from this rule:
    div.comp-actions a.btn span {
        margin-left: 10px;
    }

    • Screenshot On mobile the thumbnail is misaligned with the buttons (Tested with a Samsung S24+)
    • Well spotted. Took a while to see it. That's now been fixed.

  • Anyone else not getting notifications since about 10pm Saturday?

    • Looks like there is an issue. It's been reported.

    • Is the notification back?

      • I believe so. I've gotten an email notification for this. Only one I've gotten today so far besides trending deals.

      • Yeah I got 2 out of 3 notifications. 2 within the last 2 hours and 1 notification didn't come through from 3hr 30mins ago.

Update: 1 notification just came through instantly.

  • Couponese login error message

When I go to authorize couponese with my ozbargain account:

Application Couponese would like to access your OzBargain account, brisdaz.

    couponese says:

    Unable to obtain user info.

PS I did a search for couponese in the search box but couldn't find a more approrpriate contact channel.

Maybe it's something to do with adblocks?

    • Couponese login is for moderators only, we'll look into disabling that.

      • So you don't want members to submit via forms?

I just noticed the email section:

Anonymous submission of coupons has been disabled. Please email deals@ozbargain.com.au with legitimate discount codes.

I wanted to submit the coupon **YL361C3* from $30 off $149 Minimum Spend on Contact Lenses & Free Delivery (Online Only) @ Specsavers which i just posted as a deal as it doesn't show up on the coupons section of the store deals page.

I wasn't sure of the correct process.

        • Yeah, we disabled it as we were just getting spammed with referral codes and coupons for stores in other countries.

Don't worry about that, anything submitted on OzBargain, automatically gets sent to Couponese and will show up on the store page within 24 hours. I'll do yours now so you can see it.

    TOS Review. Personal use only?

The Terms and Conditions of Use has been there since 2011 over ten years and gone through five revisions so I'm surprised this hasn't come up before. I have done a search on "personal use", "tos personal use" but nothing comes up.

I know that businesses use or at least reps can post deals for over ten years so how do you reconcile this inconsistency. Maybe it seems to be a simple thing to fix but is hard to get right?

I guess it hasn't been tested in court.

Just idly curious on a rainy friday night.

  • With polls in forums, allow changing votes (or at least the option for people to change votes).

    • It's an option when setting up the poll (Allow Changing Votes). OP of the post should be able to update the poll to have that turned on.

  • Is there a way to subscribe to a user's forum posts only? I'd like to do that for @neil and @scotty.

    • too good for their deals huh?

      • Just been overwhelmed with neil's deals and comps lately, too busy at work but don't want to miss a forum post. Edit: I do wonder if neil noticed I was e-stalking him (no harassment, I promise).

  • I'm subscribed to the email alert when a real reaches 100 votes, so pretty much every free games related deal actually.

Can there be an option under the 100 vote email feature to disable games category?

    • Unfortunately those notifications cannot be customised.

However you can use filter in your email to remove those "Trending Deal" emails with free games.

Everyday Market to be split from Woolworths, so I can subscribe specifically to Everyday Market deals

So… we've been 17 years together… too soon to ask for pics? In comments?

  • Merged from Increase max number of Blocked Tags, etc

Can we Increase max number of Blocked Tags, etc?

    Eg I don't have a PS5. I have to block
    PlayStation
    PlayStation 5
    PlayStation 5 Slim
    PS5 Accessory
    PS5 Game

    I also don't have a PS4,3,2,1 either.

    I don't use Commbank
    Commbank Rewards
    CommBank StepPay
    CommBank Yello

There's no way 50 per Blocked List is enough.
Now that storage is cheaper, can we have more?

    • -1

Just scroll quicker. It's not that hard.

      • Yes why have a block list or any options at all

    • +2

Probably easier to ask for a whitelist rather than custom block list

    • +1

You need a Premium OzBargain membership to block more.

    • +2

      I also don't have …

Never will if you keep depriving yourself of the opportunity to secure a deal on so many items.

    • Now that storage is cheaper, can we have more?

You know that we are looping through your blocked list to exclude deals showing to you, right? Storage is cheap but CPU processing cost hasn't changed much.

    • I don’t know how these kind of things work, but would wildcards work?, so instead of blocking PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Plus… you could just block: Playstation* or PS*

      • We store the numeric IDs of blocked tags so wild cards don't work.

        • Yeah, I didnt think they would work "client side", (and bear with me, because I have ZERO idea on how website magic happens) but could the system be changed to be able to use a wild card? I'm guessing it would break lot of things and take nearly a whole re-write of the code…

Or, using the ID numbers, could you use the number like a code, like we do at work for sorting internal parts, where I know the first 2 numbers denote roughly what I am looking for, ie: all "Playstation" ID's start with 76…. so a user could block anything starting with 76 and it would just block anything related to Playstation. Next number is reference to PS5 gear, so block all 765 would block only PS5 deals? 763 would block only PS Plus deals… etc?

I would offer to help re-write the code… but let's face it, I had trouble spelling just writing out a Wiki :D

    • Just buy a PS5

    • +1

FWIW instead of doing this onsite, I pull the RSS feed through Newsblur and use their tag/keyword filter to hide deals for things I don't want/need or from other states. Works great for me, and it's free.

      https://newsblur.com/

  • +1

This is cosmetic, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway…The categories on the deals pages would probably more readable and more useful if colour coded and placed next to or right above the titles. Putting the tags in [brackets] up above the title would be nice improvement in readability too.

    • -1

Alternatively, just moving the line showing number of comments, category, etc, currently at the bottom of each deal listed, to right below the title, would be a good start.

    • Just looking at other similar sites to OzBargain.

      • HotUKDeals has votes above title and posted time
      • Slickdeals only has popular or front page tags on a small amount of deals.
      • Reddit has user and post date.

Seems like putting things above the title is not common. Do you have a ms paint you could do? Or an example of site?

      • I could be mistaken, but I think they might be asking for the category tags to be put at the top, in close proximity to the title, instead of underneath the post in the post details block.

        E.g. TechCrunch:
        https://techcrunch.com/2025/07/24/how-a-y-combinator-food-de…

The "STARTUPS" tag appears above the title on the article page, and:

        https://techcrunch.com/

Also above the title in the article listing.

        • Exactly right.

Reddit is precisely what I had in mind. Notice the round colour-coded tag right below each title. But it could be right above too, as in @zzyss's example of TechCrunch. Personally, I would combine the two, putting reddit-like small-fonted colour-coded tags above each title, but it's a subjective preference.
