@wisdomtooth: The userstyle I created tries to address the readability issue a different way by implementing a compact mode where the deal content is removed and the different link types are displayed in separate colours. Looks like this
I don't have unique colours for each category though which could be something for me to add in the future (But would require ongoing maintenance if categories change)

            • @nategasm: Great idea! Hadn't thought of that. I wonder whether I can implement my suggestion with userstyles… And also how to enable it on my phone, which is what I use to peruse OzBargain. Kiwi Browser perhaps…

I don't actually mind the body excerpt in the deal listings pages; they provide a nice break from one title to the next, and I can have read to see if it's worth looking into it. What I find most inconvenient is having to read OzB's long ass post titles to sift through what's actually of interest. The categories would help, if they weren't so far from them and so indistinguishable. I might try a mock-up…

@wisdomtooth: Given Kiwi browser is now discontinued, Firefox is probably the best option if you are referring to Android, it works great with Stylus and other extensions (But not all)

                • @nategasm: Hadn't noticed Stylus was available on Firefox (hadn't noticed the "Find more extensions links" at the end of the list — is that new?). Yeah, I know Kiwi Browser is discontinued, but still very useful for running chromium with extensions on the phone (or tablet?).

Here is a mock-up I got chatgpt to make (it stripped off the excerpt, and made the votes and comments line unnecessarily longer, but you get the idea). Can I do this with Stylus?

  • A 'feature' suggestion:

Add a button/link to unsubscribe from a post (that works in deals, forums or comps), so that if you've commented on a post but no longer wish to see when there's new posts (which often goes on for over a week on popular posts), you can opt out when you're done.

    • +1

Do you mean the 'subscribe' button at the top just before comments start?

      • No, I'm never subscribed like that - I assumed that has to be opt in. I'm talking about when I go to my comments page, it shows 'new' next to every post I've ever commented on unless I go into each post.

For short lived stuff, this works fine, but for ongoing posts (like this one), it's going to show 'new' next to it forever - even though replies to my comment will only last for a day or so.

Perhaps a toggle on each post or account setting to only show 'new' comments on your comment rather than the entire post would be an improved way to manage it.

        • If you don't want to subscribe to posts you have commented on, go to your settings page, under subscription - threads auto-subscriber, select no notifications. By default you will only be subscribed to comments that directly reply to your comment(s).

The comments that have "new" labels are those that have been posted since you last viewed that post.

We will not develop a per-post setting for a different behaviour.

    • Which then has button for "no comments", it is in effect an "unsubscribe" button.

      • I think this is a good feature and well designed, but it's only if you sign up for notifications, not for every post you've clicked on or commented on showing the 'new' tag.

        • Oh, just the new tag. It's pretty easy to ignore if you're not interested in that post…

  • Device choice for light/dark stopped working on chromium based browsers (Chrome, Brave) on my Android phone (it just defaults to dark), but still works on Firefox and Edge. No biggie, but just thought I'd let Devs know.

    • Fixed now. Maybe it was just me.

  • How about highlighting dollar figures in notifications the same way they are in deal lists and deal pages? 1. To be visually consistent, and 2. to offer the same visual cue (I, for one, tend to ignore anything above 2 figures).

  • Not sure if I should be posting this in here or elsewhere. Have posted two comps today where I accidentally posted dupes, but they weren't picked up on the new comp entry form. If I put the URL https://prezzeemagicalmoments.com.au/ into a new comp, it should report that its already been posted, however it doesn't. Has this feature been disabled?

  • Can we get forums back to what it was before? Not a fan of the new color/layout theme

    • Don't like colour being consistent? The only change was the background colour of the headers, which for the "data" table class, it is now consistent across the site.

      • I must be going crazy then , sorry. Felt like something else was off.

        • +1

Nah, you are correct. Something does look off, at least on mobile, it’s sized different or something.

          • +1

@mapax: Thank you , it was bugging me all morning haha but had no way to load previous layout/ had no screenshots on file…

            • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Categories column was normally hidden to the far right

              • @nocure: There shouldn't be any change to the layout. Outdated CSS file that's cached on your local CloudFlare cache?

  • I've set up my drop-down notifications to only show unread ones, so when I tap on comments, I only see unread comments. Great! But then if I tap on See all, I don't see all comments, but all notifications. Could there be a way to see all comments, read and unread, and retain the unread-only setting for the drop-down?

  • Could we get a sorting option in the search results for sorting by price? This can help us find all-time low prices, and help with locating stores that often have better sale prices, as they'd be at the top of the list, even if a deal for that store hasn't been posted recently.

Also, combining it with time sorting could help show the lowest prices in the last year (and exclude cheaper prices from 6 years ago before 'inflation' went crazy).

This is a bargain site, so it seems kind of strange that we can't sort deals by price.

    • It has been requested many times and the reason why it didn't get implemented is due to "technical difficulties". Or rather, our inability to accurately work out the price from each post. Because deals often contain multiple products and multiple prices depending on many factors (membership, coupon usage, cashback etc). Many deals actually aren't associated with a product or a price.

The labour intensive way would be for moderators & power users to manually add price when associate deals with products via tagging. That also means we won't have data for past deals (or more work to get already tagged deals to extract pricing from the post). Adding that into free text searching can also be tricky.

Anyway. I guess rather than "technical difficulties" it's really in the "can't be bothered" category.

      • +1

        Likely.

Here is my go at showing an OzB price history (put a tag in F1, and go!).

      • Fair enough.

I wonder if it might still be feasible to add a search option for those posts that only have a single price listed. For example, if I searched for iPhone 16 and then sorted by price, it could only show those deals which are 'easy' to determine the price (and ignore posts listing multiple products, membership pricing and discount % deals). But I also see that it might not be worth the effort if it's not comprehensive, just wanted to put it out there.

ChatGPT (or Copilot in this case) can potentially give you what you're after. I just entered a crude request of "List the 5 deals from ozbargain.com.au for iPhone 16 that have the lowest prices. Include the date of the deal.". It returned the following:

Top 5 Cheapest iPhone 16 Deals (as of August 2025)

      # Deal Title Price Conditions Date Posted Source

2️⃣ iPhone 16 128GB – Vodafone Plan $998.88 12–36 month plan from $53/month; no lock-in but payout required if cancelled 29 Jul 2025 Vodafone deal

LOL yeah I was going to say that this sounded like a typical job for AI.

Two feature requests for the Referral Settings page

    1. A toggle to only show stores which you have added your referral to.
    2. Search. Instant search that filters the list of stores while you type would be cool here.

Both would make it easier to browse and filter through the long list of stores

      1. It already does that for me on the top left menu search field.
      • Specifically on the referral settings page? I can’t see a search on that page at all.

    • Those have been implemented on the referral settings page.

      • Ta for the quick response.

How about a toggle for those you haven't entered yet so you can browse the ones you might want to join?

        • From the stats, majority of referrals aren't entered so a filter on that isn't necessary.

      • 😍 very nice. thank you!

Getting a lot of the Cloudflare error below since last week when accessing ozb

    Bad gateway Error code 502
    www.ozbargain.com.au - Host Error

I did when cashrewards closed but not recently.

I've been getting lots, but notice there is no mention of an issue on the site issues announcement.

could be just heavy traffic interpreted as possible DDOS by Cloudflare, CF being a bit paranoid.

  • My friend is getting maried and I sent them the how to ozbargain a wedding forum post but they are getting 403 Access Denied.

Is the Dating & Relationships section of the forum meant to be members only?

    • Yes.

  • Should deal revision history be looking like this? Happened after I cleared a Prime Big Day Deals tag from a non-sale post.

    • This post here? I can't seem to be able to replicate. Data might have corrected itself in the background?

      • Yep it's not doing now either.

  • Just a minor one. In VIC, PTV has rebranded/changed to Transport Victoria. I wonder if it might be worth merging the two stores into one, so all long running PTV deals are visible under the TV page. When you input the PTV site, it redirects to TV anyway.
