Ah, so the Predator was using Android phones all along.

I want, but i have no use case for it

    • When someone farts, you can see how rancid the poo smell could be.
I'd rather do this than call the Fart detective.

Checking house for good attic insulation, seeing if electric cabling is overloaded, spotting termite nests through a solid wall, seeing if a motor or bearing is running hot, checking hot water pipes for good lagging, seeing if a cylinder on an engine is running rich or lean. Just to name a few uses.

      • Check for Possum in ur roof. Check where cat is at night. Check for Paranormal activities.

BTW it'd be worth considering the InfiRay cameras, e.g. the InfiRay P2 Pro solely for the higher frame rate. The US restricts the export of cameras that can do over 9Hz/fps. The InfiRay, being from China, is not subject to those restrictions so you can get normal 25-60Hz/fps frame rates which may or may not matter in your application.

The Infiray sensor is also a lot better and clearer than the Seek.

Lots of Infiray based thermal imagers (both mobile and hand trigger type) available on AliExpress starting around $210 when on sale.

    • Anything i can set up in front of my stove so I can see remotely if ive forgotten to turn it off and am about to imminently burn down the place?

      • +1

Can you remotely turn off your stove or do you just want to know that your place is going to burn down?

        • +1

I'd just like to know so i can watch it happen i guess

  • we got non PRO version for $88 from previous deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/819787), alright for that price but won't pay the full price. Has anyone used it to inspect insulation and water leaks in the house? couldn't see anything inside the walls :/

    • +1

Could you see any dampness and tempature difference at suspected leak behind the wall?

    • I purchased at $130 a few years ago and returned it. Way too pixelated and calibration is woeful. The infiray devices are a quantum improvement imo.

    Boner vision.

Useful to find wet carpets and bad thermal insulation at home.

Great! I've been needing one of these to spot the Jellyfish Aliens flying around everywhere 🐙👽

  • Is this good for detecting termites?

    • No you need cameras with better temperature resolution, plus have an expert eye to judge the image.

  • Was mainly used in electronics repair but superseded by many others with better specifications

  • These are good prices, but I would echo comments above that the mobile Infiray devices are better choices / better value over the SEEK thermal devices.

That said, at the low end, even though the resolution and frame rate are noticeably lower, I personally prefer the FLIR One units since: the app is a bit nicer, the accuracy is a little more stable, and the exclusive FLIR MSX technology makes it significantly easier to see what you’re looking at.

My biggest annoyance with the FLIR One units is that they need to be recharged. Of course it'll be flat when I want to use it. The app and MSX is nice though.

      • I do agree! The battery life is really only about 45 minutes to an hour on them — completely useful enough for most purposes, but keeping it charged is annoying if you’re not using it often. Definitely an advantage of the other brands that just take power from the phone.
