    Lenovo Education Store

    The irony 😂

    • +5

Still works as a PC when you get home tho :)

    • +6

I've always just thought it was more of a student discount thing because students are poor and wouldn't be able to buy otherwise, not necessarily educational products

    • Sure I can submit my assignment on this thing on the go.

  • +4

Kogan currently has this for $1124.1 with code FLASHTEN. Just for today though
    Link here

Note: Kogan is a direct import model, so warranty will be through Kogan.

That worked great with my steam deck I bought from them. I had a problem with charging after 10months and they just replaced it. Sent it on a Monday and received the replacement Tuesday the following week. The main downside was it came with a us charger. Kogan did supply an Aussie power supply but it's nice to use the OG one

  • +3

Bargain at this price. Have had one since release date. Love it. Prior to this had a steam deck. Sold deck for this. No regrets. Some slight built quality issues but overall great.

    • What are the bigger differences for you? bigger screen and more performance I'm guessing but how's the battery and usability?

    • -3

Are the games already preloaded or you just download what you like from the store? Is it all free games? I'm just wondering why it's double the price of a Ps5 lol. I read the description but I don't really know what I'm reading xD

      • +8

It's a windows 11 gaming laptop in a handheld format, any games you're buy on PC platforms like Steam, GOG, GamePass etc can be played.

      • +4

The device runs windows so you can download whatever game service you want. The downside is that you have windows and it has background services which eat into the performance. Steam deck runs a version of linux which has less of these but is not as powerful.

So you can get steam, ubisoft, EA, GOG, epic and basically whatever. You will need the games linked to an account. You can be a naughty pirate too…

        • +8

Like @Caped Baldy said you can install whatever you want. I found a few benefits over steam deck:
          - Australian warranty. Purchased steam deck overseas and it broke. Sending it back cost a lot of money then was worried new one would also break.
          - Local storage for game pass. Game pass on steam deck was a pain. Installing windows was a pain. Legion go it runs windows but also steam (obviously) so best of both worlds.
          - Emulation. This thing runs switch better than the switch.
          - Screen. Bigger and the whole VRR thing is being blown way out of proportion as is the portrait orientation (for most use cases)
          - Battery hasn't really been tested as I usually play with it plugged in to my baseus powerbank. Thanks Ozbargain. Or plugged into a wall.
          - The whole FPS mode seems cool but I haven't used it because I can't stop playing FH5 which ran like poo on deck and runs 40-60 at low/med on Legion go.

          • @ezz88: Ooo thanks. Interesting, my husband plays Arma a lot on PC, I wonder how he would do with this

            • @MeesusEff: He would not play ARMA on this. Once you are in deep with ARMA, it is a mouse and keyboard game only.

      • +1

        It's a gaming PC.

So you can download / purchase games as you would with a PC (using steam / game pass etc)

I've spent the last several days reading reviews, watching youtube videos etc since the post about the mwave deal a couple days ago. I had the 10% email sign up coupon ready to go to get the same 1350 price but direct from lenovo, i was so close to clicking buy, you just saved me $150 more, thank you! Looking forward to it!
Was considering saving a little more with Kogan's ebay page and the $100 off coupon ebay are running, but wanted aussie stock and warrenty without having to deal with Kogan if there was an issue.

    • Would have been awesome if we could stack the codes

  • +8

Everytime I see an sd / legion go deal I think of this and laugh.

    • +1

Lol, good lord he sounds like an incel/edgelord type.

      • +2

Lmao, well he's soured me on the device by association. Mission success?

        "I am a gamer" vibes

  • Such a big competition now for all these PC handheld, wonder when we gonna see Ally or Go deals below $1k?

    • Patience always rewards indeed!

  • My e-mail has edu in it, but I'm not a student, reckon I can get access to education store?

    • +1

      Yes

    • Why wouldn't you just try in less time than it took to type that question?

      • +4

More keypresses but less thinking and less mouse clicks.

  • This or a gaming desktop?

How does it run when docked?

And yes, I know it's meant for mobility. I'll be taking it with me on flights or when I'm staying overnight at the in-laws'.

But I would primarily be playing game at home on the TV.

    • +4

Gaming desktop and this are completely different things, however a gaming laptop at a similar price point (4060) will vastly outperform this, for this tuned down settings will look really bad on a tv, think ps4 levels (1080p low on recent games and even then you won’t reliably get 60 fps with 30 fps on newer titles) vs a 4060 laptop which can reliably do 1440p high and even 4K with dlss, a gaming desktop will only perform even better.

      • Okay… That's a form factor I totally forgot about. That's a good point. Thanks.

    • +1

Maybe u can Lookin at whatever is the new gpd win max

    • +2

A similarly priced desktop would be way more powerful.

Only buy this if you plan to play on the go most of the time.

      • Yup. I don't. But a laptop would be ideal because I'll be taking it to places, but not necessarily playing it while travelling.

  • Think I'll wait for MSI Claw

missed opportunity to name the promo code: BACKHOMEFROMSCHOOL

Can this run Microsoft Office and my vlookups for a tax deduction?

    • +3

      Yes.

    • +5

I got a similar question too. Can a tradie claim a tax deduction for a gucci bag he uses to store some of his small tools?

    • +1

The VRR really helps with this

  • +3

Own one of these after moving from ROG ally.

Super impressed with these handhelds, coming from a PC with 3080 ti and 48" OLED.

    • Most people prefer the Ally. Why do you prefer the Legion?

      • Ally feels like I'm playing a mobile game.

Legion go actually feels like I'm gaming.

  • Hows the experience when hooked up to TV for couch coop games?

  • And I just bought the SD OLED. Dang.

    • how much did that cost?

      • +1

Friend is bringing one over from Canada. So about $780 AUD for the 512gb version

    • +3

You won't be disappointed trust me, the on paper specs might be better on this Windows handhelds but the complete experience is way better on Steam Deck, Valve has put a lot of work into optimisation vs the likes of Asus, Lenovo, GPD who seem to release a new one every 12 months.

There is a reason the SD hasn't had a major revision and continues to sell extremely well.

      • Yeah thats what im thinking. Plus at the $780 price point, that helps sweeten the deal.

  • Came here for the Stargate… left after 45 minutes of Google tangents…

  • -4

This shits all over the oled steam deck which is stuck in 2021

Unless you enjoy crap hardware, get this

  • wow. seems much better than steam deck

  • Has anyone tried doing a pricematch with jb or officeworks?

    • +5

they dont price match education stores.

      • +1

I knew this was the case but did try with JB Hi-Fi to see how low they were willing to go down, was still in the $14xx range, so I let it go.

        • +1

Not as good as this but they matched centrecom @ $1349 when I supplied a link through their live chat

  • +2

Would have jumped on this if I was 10 years younger. Adult life seriously decreased my gaming habits way too much sigh.

    • +3

Been there but getting a Steam Deck/Handheld helped reignite my passion for gaming, as it took away a lot of the barriers. These are very much pickup and play devices great for quick sessions.

    • +2

Same. But for me, it's the damn TV and all the shows I want to watch. That takes away gaming time.
