Thinking back to how much my 3060 cost me at the height of the market https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/416371/109899/3060cost…

Thanks for keeping gaming affordable Luke!

    • +1

Wow didn't realise the market reached such high peaks.

I jumped on a deal six moths earlier for a 3070 twin edge for $900 and thought that was already paying a premium.

  • Dayum, nice.

  • Is it 748 or 699?

    • +1

      $699 - fixed thanks

      • nice

  • Daym now this is a ozbargin.

  • Is the extra 100 worth it for intel?

    • +3

      Computer says noooo.
Pretty even multi thread scores, Intel slightly higher for single thread.

    • +7

Yes if you are playing cpu limited games at high frame rates (csgo/dota/etc etc), otherwise you’d most likely be gpu limited with a 3060

    • -2

Most games will be bottlenecked by 3060, even at 1080p

    • I've seen a number of PC-sale threads on Ryzen 5500 where it was mentioned that that CPU is limited to PCIx3.0.
That thus has an effect on the bandwidth available to the GPU.
Hard to gauge what the real-life difference is going to be, but if you want to avoid that, you're better off forking out the extra $100 for the 12400F which does not have that problem.

      • +8

Luckily, I can save you the trouble and gauge the real-life impact for you.

I've turned my PCIe down to 3.0 and run benchmarks using my RTX 3080 OC and the difference is near negligible.

If this concerns you and has you on the fence, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. PCIe 3.0 is plenty for the needs of the average gamer, and on a 3060 I don't think there would be any ceiling to hit in practical applications.

        • PCIe updates have been mostly for NVMe and reducing total lanes per device. I would only consider Gen 3 an issue for current high end models (4090) or longevity.

          3060/4060 won't bottleneck over 8 lanes.

    • Depends on your intended use. As others have said, single thread performance is slightly better on Intel CPUs. For example I'm wanting a dedicated PC for Zwift, the cycling exercise game, which needs good single thread performance and pretty much any GPU from GTX 980 on, so I'd be slightly better off with the Intel box.

      • +1

Im looking for the exact same purpose…really considering this over my current zwift 'frankenstein' build.

        • +1

Zwift runs great for me on a 10-year-old second hand Alienware Alpha R1 that somebody upgraded to 16Gb RAM (and I put in a SSD). Its CMOS battery is dead but I seem to be able to jumpstart it by unplugging and reconnecting the power cord, so I just keep it switched on all the time and restart after blackouts :) Had to reinstall Windows after the SSD lost the plot recently. Then Bluetooth died so I added a $14 USB Bluetooth controller. All signs point to getting something new… but hey it still works and I haven't ordered from this deal so bring on ZRL :)

  • @luketechfast, the website description on the gfx card of the 5500 looks incorrect?

A single NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 8GB graphics card and its drivers will be installed and stress tested.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB Graphics Card

    Ps, great deal mate

    • +1

Thanks for letting me know, just fixed that one up, cheers

  • +4

Very nice especially because it's the 12gb version. Would the $200 extra for Nebulas 4060 build be worth it or is there negligible performance increase there?

    • +1

Also on this note why is there a 12gb version for the 3060 but not for the 4060?

    • +2

Roughly 20% extra performance for the 4060 and you get frame gen.

      • +2

Frame gen support and future feature support is probably worth the extra to me now I think about it

        • Frame generation is pointless. It won't stop a game running like crap and it won't make it look good at low framerates.

  • +2

    Console killer for sure

    • +11

If your goal is to play new AAA games, at this price point console is still usually better, (obviously pc is better if you plan to do other stuff too) with the amount of unoptimised pc ports out there even though a 3060 is similar to a ps5 in performance, you’d still get a much worse experience overall

      • -8

That would be true if console graphics weren't equivalent to PC low settings, also once you factor in $100+ to be online for a year a PC becomes a lot more favourable.

      • Plus the fans. My PC sounds like a plan taking off when I play demanding games.

  • +3

Hey Luke, anychance you guys would build mini itx builds?

    • +3

It will be the same answer as always. No.

      • No at this stage mate

        • Out of interest, is this due to the restrictive nature of mITX builds when it comes to part selection? Meaning it's tough to put together builds that are financially competitive for the consumer?

          • @coconutwombat: Generally speaking yes - ITX boards have stupid premiums attached to them, one would assume due to volume.

  • +3

I know there are no specs for GTA6, but could this setup play GTA6 when/if it's available for PC? Gut feeling :D

    • +14

By the time GTA 6 releases on PC (-2027) this 3060 12gb will be a 6 year old lower-mid-range gpu. With DLSS ultra performance on and at 1080p, it might be playable but I don't think it'd be that great an experience. Hard to say this far out. You'd be better off buying a PS5/XSX for gta 6 (and you'll get to play it 2 years earlier) unless this is going to be your primary pc for non-gaming stuff.

      • +2

This is a perfect response, thank you.

      • +2

        Thanks.

      • You'd be even better holding off for the PS5 Pro or the next xbox which is rumoured to be coming in 2025/2026.

  • +1

When are you guys doing a 4080/4070 ti build deal next?

    • +1

No dates confirmed just yet but should have something coming

      • Alright cheers

  • Is this good enough for Premier pro and Lightroom ?

    • Also wondering this. Just need a computer to edit some photos but the cheapest at JB Hi-Fi are more expensive and worse. Contrarily these look a lot better than the JB alternatives.

    • Want to know too, is the 4060 option worth the 200 extra? Understand the 12gb 3060 will be good for SD too.

    • Get a beefy cpu and just use the igpu would be your best option if you’re just doing premier pro/lightroom

      • Intel build would be better suited for adobe suite just for the slightly better CPU. Either should get the job done

    • +1

I’d say no to both. Would they both run it well yes. However amd and adobe can sometimes be a bit funny, and the intel system has an ‘F’ cpu meaning it doesn’t have an integrated gpu. The integrated gpu in intel cpu really help with speeding up some parts of adobe programs. So if you could get the intel system with a 12400 or 12400k I'd go for that.

    • +1

Yes quite easily, it's only when you start pushing systems that they have an acquired taste foar moar RAMS.

Remember, people edit on laptops, which I strongly advise against.
Render times are where you will see major issues with lower level systems, and I would say this is more than fine to do your mentioned work, it's how you set up your software to be efficient.
SSDs are important too, ie scratch disks.

    • Get a MacBook/Mac Mini with an M chip.

  • Hey Luke do you guys thunk you will put a build with a 7800x3d and the new nvidia super range coming out soon?

  • +1

Anyone else getting payment failed and just hanging after?

Edit: Bank is blocking Techfast for being suspicious.

    • Definitely unusual, we're having plenty of transactions coming through. Just sent you a DM if you could take a look and get back to me we can look into it

    • +2

I suggest you reach out to your bank, as they may have automatically done this to protect your account.

Mine is MEBank and I had to manually override daily debit and bank transfer limits through their app.

      • +1

Yep that's what happened. The fraud team were pretty quick to contact me.

    • +6

Amazing when the Banks wont allow a normal transaction to be processed, but when scams are involved, they're more than happy to give your money away.

      • +3

Yep I had to ditch the credit card altogether and go for debit. I guess they don't want me earning points on this 😔

  • Great deal, just ordered as my current build is dying. Thanks Luke!

  • When's the end date for the sale?

    • No end date just a limited number of units

  • Can you play D4 / BG3 with this unit?

    • Considering both of those run on a Steamdeck, I'd say yes.

    • Unfortunately not mate, these are sold as a package deal.

    • Buy it as a package then just sell on eBay and make some money back, you can offset nicely if you're patient.

      • Yep this. Expect to make $200 minimum off the 3060 alone.

        • Confused

Like sell the 3060 for $899 or sell for like $499

How well do GPUs sell on eBay?

    • +1

So checked online eBay and starting $ is $400 bnib.
Maybe you could pm Luke and ask them not to install the GPU and send in box to you as is?

  • Very happy to see the budget builds return. Been in need of something fairly low spec and here it is. Thanks!

  • -5

Can you do this the same $ with a 4070Ti Super? I was going to be greedy and ask for a 4080 Super, but that's just being stupid.

I am kidding of course, can you do it with a 4080 Super?

  • +2

Brothers been waiting on a 4070ti build since last year. Emails have not been responded to. Really frustrating for him especially because I recommended this company to him.

    • -1

You should get him to PM Luke, try and keep it out of the forums to be civil.

      • +2

bro hes not going to sell you a 4070ti pc for $799 no matter how much you beg and kiss his butt

        • -3

This is true, I asked for a 4070Ti Super though and expect a 4080 Super instead "Bro"

  • Ordered an AMD for my kiddo, cheers lads!

    • @luketechfast you guys should consider shipping with something like PopOS rather than Mint on your non-Windows machines, it'll have a much newer kernel and support for Nvidia drivers out of the box.

  • ordered one. Thanks Luke.

  • Cant believe I paid 2700 for Ryzen 5 5600X & Gigabyte 3070 8GB bundle in 2020. These are cheap as f nowaday.

    • You shouldn't complain, you bought when demand was extremely high, start of C19, and you've had almost 4 years of use.
If you got a good mobo, you should be able to recycle your CPU and GPU to keep up with the pace.
I went from a 3700X to 5900X, from 32 GB RAM to 64 and 980Ti to 3070Ti all on the same mobo and intend to get a 4070 Ti Super.
      Not bad for scalable investing.

      • +1

Yeah, you're right. Was able to get good gaming PC back then and played during covid time was extremely grateful. Just venting out how much these hardware price could be fluctuated based on demand/supply issue.

I think Im not going to upgrade my PC any soon. I bought many AAA games but not have the time to play much. I keep playing my old, indie, strategy games. I am waiting on my Legion Go delivered so I can play when I travel as well.

  • +1

Do you do shipping to New Zealand? If so, how much?

  • How upgradeable is the $699 system in terms of cpu and gpu? planning to use it for a year and then upgrade the components

    • +3

It's AM4 so Ryzen 5 series is the top of the line here.
5500 is quite low in 5xxx hierarchy (but very good performance per dollar).
Fastest in this series are Ryzen 9 (e.g. 5900x), when focusing on gaming then 5800x3D is your best bet.
GPU-wise you can go as low and as high as you want (PSU and case permitting).
Just note that there is a balance between the CPU and GPU pair when it comes to getting the most out of your GPU.
For instance, buying an RTX4090 to go with this Ryzen 5500 is not a good pairing as then you'd be extremely CPU-bound.

If I was buying the Ryzen system, I'd fork out the extra $59 right now for the 5600 CPU as that enables PCIEx4.0.
The 5500 is only PCIEx3 which has lower bandwidth available for GPU and thus putting a bit of a brake on your GPU (you'd have to check some YouTube videos on the topic to get a better understanding what percentage we're talking about, it might be peanuts for some games, but noticeable with other games).

      • thanks! extremely helpful reply. What would be the best pairing GPU if I were to upgrade the Ryzen CPU to the fastest possible given this motherboard? I could potentially upgrade the PSU too.

      • Thanks for the in-depth res!

May i ask if RAM and SSD are upgradable with thís motherboard? (Additional)

      • +2

Note that I posted a similar comment much higher up in this comment section on the PCIEx3 vs 4 'issue' and someone had kindly tested it by fixing some motherboard settings, and it revealed the effect was negligible.

As for best GPU with a Ryzen 59xx or 5800x3D, the sky's the limit… in this case replace "sky" with "budget".
However, would you want to fork out say $2500 (or more) for an RTX4090 which is an absolute beast?
It would certainly enable the best possible gaming experience, and allow for almost any professional scenario (editing, machine learning, AI) as well.
Pretty sure though that 'lesser gods' would also give a good experience, e.g. the higher/highest tier Radeon cards, as well as RTX 4070Ti/4080, or the upcoming Super variants of those RTXs. Use case and budget generally drive such decisions, best off to do some research and find some videos where someone's demonstrating what kind of performance such pairings are capable of, under which resolution.
Also note that adding a beefier GPU requires a good PSU, so you need to factor (read: budget) that in as well.

Regarding RAM and SSD, another case of "anything goes"… within the restrictions of the motherboard of course.
        See https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-A-PRO-MAX/Specificatio…
It's a DDR4 motherboard, so any 3200Mhz RAM pair up to 2x32GB with good timings will do the trick (higher if you also want to try overclocking).
As for SSD, the onboard NVMe slot supports M-key and PCIe 3.0 x4, meaning that the latest flavours (PCIe 4 and 5) cannot run at specified speed.
So in theory buying a PCIe3 one will do the trick, or just any PCIe4 one that has a good price-tag (they just won't go over ~3,500 MB/s).

PS it could be that originally the motherboard was not intended for 5-series Ryzen, and that a BIOS update was required.
Given how this is sold with a 5500, that should be taken care of, but best to confirm when purchasing on what the BIOS version is that comes with the motherboard.

  • Does anyone know what the acoustic is like with these case and fans? Just wanted to know if it’s loud even when idling

    • Straight pipe exhaust type acoustics

  • Careful of the Allied 550w they include (only has 360w on the 12v rail), with a ryzen 5500 and a GPU that draws ~160w which the 3060 does, you will find you will get random black screen PC resets under transient spikes under hard gpu load.
I managed a replacement Allied 750w model and it fixed the issue, so try and opt for that PSU instead or pay extra for the PSU upgrade to a better branded one.

  • hi guys, is it good enough to satisfy my itch for Age of empire? more inclined for intel

    • which aoe? I play AOE 4 at low settings 2K and medium settings 1080p at 60 fps on a r5 3600 and an RX570 lol. The rx 570 in particular is about 50% the speed of the 3060. These pcs will blow aoe 4 out of the water. Maybe not highest settings at 2K but you will have a great experience.

  • i logged a call with techfast 3 weeks ago and they haven't replied back

These guys don't have a contact number?

    • I logged an RMA last week and Caleb got right back to me overnight, then subsequent messages were almost instant. No phone number no.

I would hit them up again.

    • +1

We probably replied back, there is a chance that the email got sent to spam/junk if you want to take a look. You can DM me with your order number and we can double check for you

  • is it worth upgrading the ram to 32gb and SSD to 1tb for a budget gaming PC?

    • +3

16GB is sufficient and not every title out there absolutely requires 32GB. Definitely worth upgrading to 1TB storage for the larger games.
