12 months for all Vodafone prepaid services, as printed on the pack :)

  • Can anybody advise, a mate of mine is already with Vodafone on a payg monthly plan. He was going to leave and go with Kogan but I have mentioned this plan for him.

But what happens if he buys this starter pack from Woolies, will he be eligible to take up this yearly plan? or how does it work with Voda when he is already with them and wants to ditch his month by month plan? Any info on this would be helpful as he is 80 yo and is confused easily.

Also does this also work with eSim as his phone is capable I believe.

    • port out to either optus or telstra first on any 28 days plan then come back via this start pack, easiest way!

      • Thought this might be the case!

        Cheers for sounding off 👍

    • it's a "Starter Pack"

  • Price match at Officework if they didn't update their price

    • Officeworks AI will match the price on Wednesday morning so there won’t be any price matching.

      • At what time though 1130am? Also I find officeworks can b slow to match sim deals and cheap supermarket phone deals

        • I’m gonna guess 7am price will change

    • Officeworks still currently showing $250, just called and price matched for $118.75

      • how did you price match? Woolworths dont have this ad anywhere. can you share invoice?

  • Vowifi support?

    • +2

Yes wifi calling is a thing on Voda.

    • My brother lives rural with bad coverage on all networks so relies on the Voda VOWIFI to work from home via his NBN.

  • My annual sim doesn’t expire for another 4 months, not sure if worth buying now or wait till later if offer similar comes again

    • +1

Buy now. What if there is no better offer?

  • +1

Swapped to Vodafone (from that Costco $99 deal back in November), and have had nothing but issues with the network. And I live and work inner city (Brisbane). Just a heads up!

    • Which phone are you using it with? The network bands also matter.

      • I swapped to kogan mobile from boost recently on a samsung galaxy s21, and definitely find my current coverage inferior.

I'm in south east metro melbourne and am getting infrequent dropouts and overall weaker connection. Boost has been flawless.

      • Tried it in my work phone (an Apple 14) and my personal (Samsung Galaxy)… terrible on both.

    • I spent a couple days in Blackheath and Bathurst and surrounds. My Lebara was very patchy compared to my partner’s Boost which were working almost every where. Where I live in Western Sydney Lebara is marginally better.

can you use this as an e-sim?

    • +2

      Yup can be converted

    • Mate of mine was able to convert it to an esim after activation

  • Can I get 10% off this using my once a month 10% off shopping offer?

    • Yes

  • Can I international roam on this sim?

  • Do you still get 90GB on activation (Summer Bonus Data Offer) or is that already included in 240GB?

    • +1

      That's included in the 240GB

      • Does this extra 90gb bonus data need to be activated by 15/02/24 or can be post that date? I'm not looking to activate until April/May.

  • Does anyone know if this pack can be used as a Data sim in a Tablet

    • Yes, same as a data SIM accept the calls/SMS are not blocked, unlike a data SIM that has calls/SMS blocked.

      • awesome thanks for the quick response

İf u live in Sydney… And if u care 5g and at least quality network. Plz be far!

  • I live in well-developed Melbourne southeast suburbs but the signal is pretty bad that I can't even have a smooth video call on 5G.

  • Does anyone know wat's the ongoing price for this deal? Like after the 365-days expiry, how much will it cost to renew this same plan? Or will it stay at the $125 initial price?

  • +1

Can I keep my existing number with this?

    • Yes

  • Anyone know if this can be converted to an e-sim?

  • Dose Vodafone support esim which is suitable for Apple Watch?

  • +1

Have an offer for spend $100, get 4300 points. This would work?

  • +2

Should have checked this deal before buying Coles Sim $125/120gb/1year this afternoon. Any idea if I can return Coles Sim (unopened)?

    • Don't think sims can be returned. My wife couldn't return one to Woolworths about a year ago.

      • -1

You are probably right. Online chat guy just told me to check with store staff ( which i dont really want to).

        • I don't think a store would be able to deactivate already activated sim. Because of that they won't accept it back.

  • Anyone know if you can use this with an Apple Watch Ultra 2??

  • Currently with Vodafone. Am I right in thinking that you can't connect a LTE watch on a starter pack? My watch isn't on a payment plan and my last handset payment is due this month. Hoping this might be a good, cheaper option going forward.

  • +1

What does the, "Unlocking fee may apply" mean?
I thought unlocking fees only applied to mobile phones.

  • Is it worth switching over from Coles?

Our Coles 365 expires in 3 days.

We used to use international calls but don't really need anymore.

We live in Adelaide, wondering about coverage.

  • +1

Can these sims be used in a modem just for the data?

    • +1

      Yes

  • Is this sim data only or does it also include calls and texts?

    • It's a normal sim with calls, texts and data. Can be used in any device.

  • Do you know if I can return this and get a refund if unused?

    • +1

Officeworks (where i got mine from) says i cant return it so i assume would be the same for woolies.

  • +1

150gb +90gb bonus data. Activate by 22/02/24 for bonus data

    • Oh that’s a deal breaker for me. My sim doesn’t expire for another 3 months and I wouldn’t want to miss out on the extra 90gb

  • Can anybody from Perth metro comment on Vodafone network? Not sure whether to jump on this from Boost to save a bit more $$$.

    • Not exactly Vodafone but used Felix (vodafone owned) for 3months and was pretty good. It was even working inside the building where I work ( optus doesnt have reception there).
Not sure about outside metro area.

      • i do experience some drop outs on Felix every now and then within Perth CBD. not unbearable as I have wifi in office but just not great at a metro area.

    • +1

I used vodafone prepaid for a short period around the perth metro area and found it to be resonable. Didn't experience drop-outs as such.

      • Thanks guys. I tried Felix mobile to try first!

Do keep in mind that Vodafone have shut down their 3G network recently as per this

so you may have to fiddle/hack the VoLTE settings on your phone. I recently had to do this for my partner's phone as it would no longer make/receive calls even though data and SMS worked fine

  • How can we use the 10% off in store for this? I will sign up for the free trial but never used it before.

  • Not good to us whose current plan expires post 22/02/2024 to have the bonus data

  • Ported 9am this morning and didn’t get service til 4:45pm and still on temporary number. No apologies when I rang and was on hold for 41mins.
Additionally their network map says 5G for my phone but only getting 1 bar of 4G

  • Can we buy this online for click and collect or only in store?

  • Does this act like a normal phone plan? Or do you need a base plan and this adds data to that plan?

If I am already with Vodafone month to month can I buy this and stop renewing my month to month plan?

    • -1

Yes you could replace your month to month pay as you go account with this pre pay one. In fact when you port your number over the other account with be cancelled (so be careful if you’re in contract with that one)

    • +1

Pretty sure you can't port from vodafone to vodafone. You'll need to port over to another provider and then back into this 12 months vodafone starter pack.

I live in Sydney and a couple of Woolies I have been to dont have the exactly same package. However, they both have a different package with very limited info printed. The same package as this deal in Costco. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823991

And the package doesnt say 5G enabled. This different package SIM is however on half price which is $125. Are they the same plan just different packages?

    • The woolies I went to had two types of packages, they appear to be the same, as they are manufacture dated about a year apart

    • +5

My local Woolies had limited stock.
So, I purchased one pack with the 90GB bonus advertised on the pack.
I also bought the standard $250 pack (without the 90GB advertised).
Both rang up on the register as $125 (despite there being no 1/2 sticker on the shelf), and both came with the bonus 90GB.
You need to activate the sim before the cut-off date to quality for the 90GB, however.
      Hope this helps.

      • So they both are the same? Had to go to two wellies & officework & returned empty-handed. Thank you for experimenting though.

  • Grabbed this deal
    Thanks OP

Note: there was no "1/2 price off!" Sticker on the shelf but it is applied upon scanning at the checkout

  • How does porting work with a prepaid card like this - do you activate first then port in your old number after that step, or some other way?

    • Port during activation process

      • Thanks!

  • OK so now a paranoid question: I want to keep this for a few months before activating & installing it.. but there were two receipts when I bought the sim, one seems to indicate it was activated when it was purchased, viz: "$250 Activation WAS SUCCESSFUL" .. is this just something more like a validation in their system to avoid people pocketing the cards and walking out without paying, or is the year-long subscription now ticking?

    • +2

is this just something more like a validation in their system to avoid people pocketing the cards and walking out without paying

Correct. Woolies tells Voda that this particular sim was bought and paid for.

Then You have one year from the day of purchase to start your service (activade with Voda). And after that a year of actual service will start ticking.

      • Thankyou kindly, well-informed fellow OzB-er!

  • Does anyone know if we can use no. Sync with this card for the watch ?

  • +2

Love sharing my succesful bargain stories. Went to Officeworks and purchased 3 SIMs with 5% price beat ($118.75 each). The lady said its a limit of 2 per customer but no issue going to another team member and price matching the 3rd (she ended up doing them in 2 separate transactions anyway).

Paid by Flybuys points (thanks for Citi Prestige CC signup points) aswell.

As mentioned above they have two different branded $250 prepaid starter kits and one stated 150gb + 90 bonus date on activtaion ends 09.04.24 which is great as my plan ends in August and I was just going to activate in Feb to take advantage of the bonus data so atleast now im just missing out on 4 months of my current sim instead of 6.

    • Excuse me if I did misunderstood.

So there is one type of $250 started kit of 150gb with 90gb bonus data with activation dates ends 09/04/2024 if it's correct? Because it says has to activate before 22/02/2024 to receive the 90gb bonus data.

      • Yes! The one (of three) I picked up from Officeworks says that. On the bottom left corner says "$250 prepaid plus starter park. 150gb + 90gb bonus data on activation. Ends 09.04.24 (unless extended). T&C apply. See over for details."

The barcode on the back has the same number as the other sims that don't have that added information.

        • Thank you! That will be good for people like me whose current plan expiring in April. Might do some hunting at OW.

    • Could you do us all a favour and post a photo of the promo on the packet please? Don't need the barcode?

      I chatted to Vodafone:

      Nilesh
Cool, if you have your offer expiry till April then you can try before expiry date if you have any issue in this keep card with you so we can add your bonus data on your account if not added to you.

      2:53 PM

  • My local woolies didn't have any advertising up but scanned at 50% off.

    Thanks OP.

  • Is all data 5g or is there a cap on it?
Secondly, any extra reward points that can be used later?

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

Vodafone gets a bad rap, just depends where you are. Had a bunch of people do a speed test in the middle of my city at lunchtime on a workday a while back after having had issues for ages. Telstra was sloooow, like 1-2Mbps, Boost in particular was legitimately non-functional, Optus pretty good, Vodafone was like lightning and the best of the lot. Switched to Vodafone and haven't looked back, even better is that deals like this work out to around $10/month with 5G at full speed - amazing.

  • Can someone help me here? Is it specific to certain woolies? I went to my local woolies. Asked for this sim. They didn't have that. I couldn't find in the sim card sale collection either.

    • It's in the catalogue, so should be available nationwide (may exclude Woolworths Metro).

I saw them in the Gift Card section when I was at Woolworths.
