    • There will be international transaction fees
ATO debt is generally not counted towards $3k spend

  • This, or 100k velocity points AMEX offer? Been slowly switching over to Velocity but bit torn on this one

  • How easy is it to use the travel credit in practice?

    • Pretty simple. When you make the booking on the Amex travel website, it asks you if you want to use your credit when making payment.

  • No luck here. Tried different browsers and also VPN.

    • I used VPN to Australia. Chrome incognito didn't work for me with VPN, but a regular Firefox window did.

      • Just tried still no dice 😞

  • +1

VPN off, incognito on, and then I was offered the 120k :). Thanks OP.

  • You must have not earnt a welcome bonus in the past 18 months from any American Express Australia product to be eligible

How to understand this? Is this eligible for existing customer and hold a card for over 18 months?

  • +1

i can't get the 120k to show for me, only 100k, have tried safari, chrome and firefox and in incognito :(

  • -2

Would apply, but the annual fee… ughhh

  • Is Jetstar available/eligible for the travel credit in the AMEX travel portal?

  • +1

Luck didnt favour… seems like an existing 15k card is a big issue for new application :(

  • The $450 credit isn’t that useful buying through the portal right? Like you’re literally paying extra for booking flights and hotels than directly purchase from vendor.

    • +2

I've used it 3 years running and the flights prices are the same for the Qantas website and Amex travel portal. 3rd party websites may be cheaper but not to the value of the credit and they can have their own problems

  • +1

Damm. I just applied and got the card with 100k points offer last month. Anything I can do to get 120k instead of 100k as per current offer? I have not spent the 3k needed yet.

    • You could ask for 120k when the bonus 100k hits your account with Amex and see if they can accomodate.

      • Confirming Amex honoured 120k bonus Qantas points when asked via chat

  • Should I have received an email after signing up? I was instantly approved but haven't received anything by SMS or email.

    • Turns out it just takes a while. Just received the welcome email.

  • Any serial churners get accepted?

    • I'm a casual churner and got rejected

  • +1

To the people who have used Amex Travel Services (the service that you have to go through to use your $450), how do the prices there compare with expedia or booking?

  • -1

How much gift card $$ can be redeemed with 120k QF points?

  • Finding it so difficult to use the $450 flight credit!
Have two weeks left to use but don't have anywhere to fly to and taking the family along costs way more. Anyone how suggestions on how to get rid of the credit?

    • Can you use to book hotels or just flights?

    • +1

Do you have any family, friends or colleagues flying anywhere? Offer them a discounted flight and book it for them. The discount you offer them is the price you pay for the card for the year. e.g. They have a $500 domestic flight. You book it for them and it costs you $50. They pay you $450. That's your annual card fee paid. You're $50 out of pocket which is a damn cheap card with all those perks and better than losing the whole $450 credit.

    • Can you sell it on classifieds?

      • No it goes against the T&C's unfortunately

  • I haven't got the account for QFF points, do I need to create one before I apply for this card?
    Thanks

  • How quickly does the $450 travel credit come through? I have a trip I need to book soon but nothing for a while after that. Would want to book this week.

    • I think that's cutting it fine. There may be some back and forth with need to submit documents, etc.

  • +3

Im out of ideas to get the 120k points offering.

    What VPN did others use?

EDIT: THIS METHOD WORKED FOR ME

    1. Shut down all pages/browsers

    2. Downloaded TunnelBear VPN (free). VPNed to New Zealand.

    3. Tried Chrome + Chrome Ignito, didn't work. https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/qantas-ultim…

    4. Tried Firefox - 120k bonus appeared. https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/qantas-ultim…

    • THIS IS THE WAY!!!

      Thank you.

Tried another VPN and all the other ways people suggested and nothing.

Your way worked fine! Instant approval too, but still waiting on an email confirming that I got it? Seemed odd…

    • Got the 120k offer using this method, however the application seemed strange. The minimum credit limit was $3600 instead of $3000 and at no point did it ask for payslips. Got an email saying would receive a response within 5-10 business days instead of any kind of immediate conditional approval or rejection..

      • Got it on Edge without vpn

    • Tried 6 browsers on my Motorola g82 using tunnlebear and winscribe with various locations and private tabs. All 100k.
Used my laptop with winscribe set to Chicago and chrome in a standard tab and the magic 120k appeared. Approved in 10 minutes.

    • Worked perfectly!

  • My iPhone has vpn always turned on by default to au servers and it only show 100k
I turn off my vpn on home wifi, restart my iPhone safari private browser and relaunch the op Amex page and it shows 120k
Seems like need to try various browsers, vpn/nonvpn and reload in new private browser

  • +3

How exactly is it targeted if there is no login? is it picking up location?

  • The website timed out while I was uploading documents and says I can go back to the application via the link sent by email but I haven't received any email. WTF?

    • +1

The emails take up to an hour. Keep checking your inbox.

      • Thanks!

  • Ah I already applied for the previous deal but haven't spent anything yet. You guys think if I request for the extra 20k they might consider?

    • Only seen instances of them approving the additional pool ts where you ring up and ask before you activate the card. Once it is activated, no dice.

I wonder, could you theoretically book a hotel for next year, pay in advance, then cancel the booking a few months in?

    Asking for a friend

    • +1

Yes you can but you may run into problems getting a refund as most places will only refund back to the original form of payment (I assume you have cancel your amex by then but if you still have it then all good). You'll probably get your refund in the end but you'll may have to wait a few months, chase up multiple times, emails, be on hold a lot if you call etc etc

  • -5

Remember to cancel straight away. This card is not worth it beyond the sign-up bonus.
It's $450 per year, and the "credit" you get needs to be spent on their shitty website, which is also often a bit more expensive. When I tried using the Qantas lounge access last time, they told me I had to register beforehand…

If you're after lounge access, I'd much more recommend Priority Pass that comes with Citi CCs. That grants you access to heaps of lounges around the world, and there's zero hassle.

    • -3

Do you get a prorated refund of the annual fee? If I do cancel quickly, should I use the $450 credit first?

  • Got approved straight away, last applied on 2018 maybe why.

    • Got any other cards open or recently closed atm?

      • yeah i have anz FF black

        • Might give it a crack then ta

  • Opened link earlier today and saw 120k. Was busy at the time so said I'd apply later.

Just tried opening the link again and it is now showing 100k no matter what I do (different VPN, incognito, different devices).

    • I also couldn't get 120K. Tried VPN ,incognito etc. Do I have to login to see 120k?

      • It just randomly worked again now on my phone but not PC, without VPN. No need to login.

  • Can anyone tell me, if you sign up for a qantas business rewards credit card with bonus points, does that exclude you from taking up standard personal bonus points credit card in the same 12 month period?

IE. I am about to take out a amex frequent flyer business rewards card. For personal cards, I have been on the same frequent flyer visa for 5+ years and want to change it to a different card. Can i take advantage of bonus points offers for both?

  • Is the Amex travel credit hard to use? I heard the price on Amex travel is inflated and has low availability for flights

  • is it $450 Qantas Travel Credit ? or AMEX credits?

  • Can anyone please confirm whether I can use the $450 travel toward an international that involves one stop due to no direct flight offer by Qantas airline (the first part is with Qantas and then connecting to another airline)?

e.g. from Melbourne to guangzhou, all I see involves at least one stops and not fully with qantas airline (Melbourne to Brisbane is with qantas then connecting Guangzhou from Brisbane is with another airline). Similarly on the return flight that no direct flight, Amex only have option is flying to Singapore with another airline then connecting back to a qantas flight to Melbourne.

Could anyone please help to try on the Amex booking site to confirm whether the $450 travel credit can be apply?

    • +1

No. Needs to be all coded and operated by QF.

      • thank you for your confirmation

  • -2

I have The Qantas American Express Discovery Card. Would I still be eligible for this card?

    Help chat bot couldn't help

  • Pretty quick submitted last night and uploaded payslips and approved by midday.
Getting ready to pay my insurance.

  • This or the amex charge card (platinum something) with 275k amex points ? Fees are higher ($1,450) but more benefits. I need an amex

    • +1

Amex Platinum is more flexible on which airline you can redeem flights on.

You also need to make more effort to get a return on the fees with platinum.
      i.e.
      - $450 Travel credit
      - $400 Food credit ($200 local/$200 overseas)
      - Accor Membership
      - Lounges

So if you want something more straight forward or travel predominantly on Qantas serviced routes, stick to this Qantas card.

      • Thanks, never had a charge card (I believe this is the only non business choice in Oz)
I believe 275k cover the $1450 fees based on points value.
Not sure what to redeem the points on tho, flights?

  • $450 Annual Qantas Travel Credit, only for Qantas. not for travel credit :(

  • May sound like a silly question, but I haven't had a credit card, how does the annual fee get charged?

    • it gets added to your first monthly bill

  • Cannot get the 120k to show, tried all the methods (tunnelbear, firefox, incognito etc)

Anyone able to send me say 2 screenshots of the 20k offer (maybe orig page and also the next page where it confirms the 20k)?

    Cheers!

    • I just checked and its still there - https://imgur.com/a/FWwV2Yp

    • If you’re looking for a total of 120k. You could go through the Qantas 20k extra first card holder link to stack with the standard 100k - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829318

      • I doubt there's a single person on this site that would be eligible for this deal (unless they've just turned 18)

      • +1

Or you could try again to get the 120k to show and combine it with the other deal so get 140k total.

  • Got approved straight away after filling in the details..but didnt ask for the credit limit which i wanted to chose the minimum - $3k
Only got 1x card with $3k now..nothing else..

  • good amount of points - but sceptical how simple this could be. I applied for the Amex velocity deal posted here and zero communication from Amex for 1month+. Then getting a call on a Saturday morning because their team wants 'additional info'. not worth the slow pace and hassle.

    • Amex is infamous for being one of the best banks for communication. Their call centre is excellent.

Your experience sounds like an aberration.

I was approved for this within 24hrs.

      • may have been a one-off. simply sharing the experience.
didn't get a call back from their offshore team to finalize the application till yesterday (roughly 5 weeks since the application).

  • Applied and submitted documents last night and just got approved.

Didn’t know they work on weekends.

  • Hmmm.. I closed my last Amex card in Sept of 22 but 'earnt' the welcome bonus in late 21.. I should be eligible right?

    • You're eligible 18 months after Sept 2022

  • Is there a way to use a referral code for the 120k given you need to go Incognito?

Also can you add a referrer after you've been approved?

  • It said approved on the end screen but then there is like nothing right?

No way to sign in, no email received, just wait 5 to 7 days for the card?

    • +1

      Email came through now

  • I can't get 120k offer, you guys so lucky - somehow now reflecting 120K

  • serial churner here - have held this card twice in the past 5 years amongst a load of others in between.

First time I got rejected about 1 month ago now @ the 100K offer. Sounds the same as others, excellent credit rating blah blah.. just too many cards in prior periods i'm guessing.

    Questions though -
    * How long would/should you wait between applications of different cards after being rejected on this one?
    * Has anyone reapplied for this one after initially being rejected & if so, were you successful and how long did you wait?

    • Enquiries stay for 5y and closed accounts for 2y. It's crazy to think about the potential chaos if there were no consequences for multiple credit enquiries. Definitely puts things into perspective. 🤯 #CreditEducation

  • Worked for me by using mobile data instead of home wifi.

  • Screwed up application. While filling salary details, phone stopped responding…..anyway to resume application? I haven't got application number or anything. I think credit check already done at first step where it asks to wait 60 seconds after submitting identification details.

  • What does single booking for the travel credit mean? Can you do connecting Qantas flights or book multiple people on same Qantas flight? Or return? Or does single mean a single one way flight?

  • +1

Just curious, have any unemployed and/or low-income people had success applying for these or similar cards?

  • Applied on Friday and got the approval email and SMS on Saturday.

  • I applied and tbh I didn't even fill it out properly, hoping I'd get rejected no matter what, I got approval in few hours.

  • Terms and Conditions say: "120,000 bonus Qantas Points will be awarded to the eligible Card Member’s account 8-10 weeks after the spend criteria has been met."

Anyone have experience in how long it took to get your points after the min spend?
This could be a make or break as you could have to wait for 10 weeks to book the already rare rewards seats.
