Got my first ever rejection with this one, would advise others to be wary.

    -$100k income
-Probably 6 or so churns on credit file, one open card at $6k, always pay on time, no negative events ever. Applied for a limit of just $5k with this one.
-$220k home loan outstanding, no other debts
-Generic email confirmation saying wait 5-10 business days, no request for docs
-Rejection letter after 5 business days (why they can't just email right away to let you know I have no idea, absolutely stupid)

Either they hate churners or they want people to apply for higher credit limits, because no idea what else they would consider wrong with my application.

    • Similar situation, but not a churner. Last had an Amex about 3 years ago. Shame.

    • Similar situation and was approved instantly. But I let amex decide the limit (30k).

    • 6 or so churns on credit file could mean 6 over 5 years (maybe OK) or 6 over 3 years (not OK).

      • 6 over three years, but I've been at that level for about 5+ years and never been an issue, have a very lovely and chonky pile of old cards.

        • Will rejection of credit application be on file? How do they tell of rejection?

          • @a1234my: It will only show as an enquiry, but the lack of any corresponding credit account to match the enquiry is probably how they can tell.

  • +1

Another churner rejected, same as others ie high income, no negative events.

    • How many cards have you been through? What about last time you applied for one? Trying to gauge if I have any chance

  • +1

Any luck on 120k? Tried 5 different devices, Chrome/Edge/Firefox, incognito & not, as well as Tunnelbear VPN. So sad

    • No luck for me either.

  • Hey guys, first time amex holder. If i wanted to book flights with the available points + money i would have to book through Qantas website? Does that mean i either pick to use the $450 travel credit through the portal or book by points via Qantas website?

    thanks

  • Finally got a email asking to upload payslips

    • How many days did you wait for the follow-up email? I applied 6 days ago and nothing yet

  • 120 k confirmed! Card arrived in 5 days, received email rego confirmation for the 20k Qantas first-time bonus too. Just gotta meet the min spend to secure the 140 k QFF now. Thanks for sharing!

    • Is this your first time AMEX or just first time signing up with the 20k qantas first time bonus?

      • First time signing up with the 20k bonus points, nicely stacked bonus

    • How do you get the confirmation of 120K points? In email or after spending 3K?

      • Same question here

      • Typically after spending the 3k

  • Hey folks
I have signed up and it showed 120K points when i did. I got the approval and waiting for the card. This is my first time, i just wonder how do they know if im eligible for 120k? Or how do i check if I am eligible for 120K?

Just wondering about it. Is it in the email or where?
    Thanks

    • There's no way to check. However I think they are pretty lax with the points considering many people have reported being given the extra 20k points just by asking live chat even though they signed up on the 100k deal so if you somehow don't get the full 120k you can just ask live chat.

      • Live chat told me I’ll get 95k points after $1500 spend, didn’t see either of those numbers!

  • Need to figure out how to spend the $3000 apart from tickets , some councils like Brisbane seem to accept rates payment with a surcharge

      • thanks , if only they did BPAY as well!

  • I couldn't see 120,000 points.
I tried so many times, using 3 different computer and different browsers (edge, chrome, safari), incognito modes.
I remote into US Windows computer and tried from there as well.
Any tricks on how I can see 120,000 points?

    • I think it’s completely random so I don’t think there’s any trick that works for all. Just wait for some time and try again.

On the day I signed up, tried everything I could think of that morning, different browsers, incognito, different devices, networks, VPNs etc… and couldn’t get the 120k to show. Then in the afternoon I just opened the link again normally without doing anything special and the 120k just magically appeared.

  • Thanks OP. Was seeing 100k initially but worked in my case from a new Chrome installation. Had to load the application page a few times using different browsers.

Has anyone successfully asked Amex to give the additional 20k from Amex and 20k from Qantas even though they signed up the 100k one? I am hoping to get 140k total.

  • Do we just need to buy airline tickets with this credit card for travel insurance? No minimum amount is mentioned. On Westpac, the minimum was $500 per person.

    • Yes see p6 or p7 for domestic/international eligibility criteria: https://www.americanexpress.com/content/dam/amex/au/pdfs/cre…

.. bit annoying for me as I'd already booked flights and was hoping that qualifying spend could be in the form of hotels etc

      • yeah.. only International Return amount is valid. But no minimum amount is mentioned.

        International Return Trips
        4. You are going on an International Return Trip and You pay the full
amount of Your outbound ticket for a Scheduled Flight or Scheduled
        Cruise leaving Australia on Your

  • Successfully applied via referral link (40K points coming to someone soon!). Selected $5K limit.

Approved on the spot without uploading payslips.

  • Anyone able to make this work again? Surely it hasn't been removed yet

  • +1

has anyone actually received their 120k points after spending the minimum 3k?

    • It shows on my account but I don't think they transfer until you get the statement at the end of the month

  • -5

Assuming we get the card and the points and cancel at the 6 month mark, will they do any of that pro-rata yearly fee refund?

    • -6

It's a question idiots, you respond with 'no, man, they don't do that' or 'yeah they do'
Not weird downvote for no reason? It makes 0 sense.

To people with a brain: does anyone know, if AMEX will end up doing the pro-rata refund on the yearly fee, the way some people got out of the ANZ black one? (making the deal even better)

      Thank you

      NO

      • -1

        Appreciate the reply

  • Couldn’t get the Qantas with 120k points I got the Velocity amex with 120k following the same link.

    Thanks guys.

  • After a week of no follow-up gave AMEX a call today. Apparently application was unsuccessful! they cant tell me over the phone why but they will send a letter explaining the reason? On 200k income with one 15k ANZ black card limit with no mortgage or loan. I don't consider myself a card churner either although I did have an AMEX card about 2 yrs ago

    • Would be interesting to know how they work these things out and what specific levers they are pulling for any promo.

I'm on lower income than you, 2x CCs with about the same total limit as yours, and i've churned through cards like butter in the past 2 years.

Just got card approval, go figure.

Edit: for the record I never saw 120k bonus so it's (only) 100k for me

    • The letter is probably the same generic one I got "due to your income and expenses". So when I called them back to question it - surely my income and expenses can cover a $3K card, he said, you may also be rejected due to other reasons like too many credit applications. Ah, so there it is, the real reason.

  • Don't forget to click the appropriate referral link, you might make someone's day by gifting 40,000 points.

    • But with referral you only get 100k points.

  • Still no luck with 120k, which link did you guys use?
    https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/qantas-ultim…
    https://www.americanexpress.com/au/credit-cards/qantas-ultim…

Do these links have the same chance of getting 120k lol

  • "Has anyone had experience using the BPAY feature on AMEX to pay ATO and utilities?

I've noticed my NAB Visa Qantas Signature allows me to pay ATO and utilities without incurring a card advance fee or surcharge through BPAY. I'm curious if AMEX offers similar functionality."

    • +1

Not directly with Amex. However you can do so via 3rd party services like Sniip and Payment Logic but they do charge fees.

  • Reporting another data point for the thread. I've never been rejected for any cards before and have decent income. Straight rejection from Amex. Haven't had an amex for at least 2 years but I've been churning other cards.

  • Anyone able to get 120k the last few days?

  • i can't get the 120k points to show anymore, tried incognito on safari and chrome across two devices no luck.. anyone getting it to show?

    • Nope, also haven't been able to get the 120k to show up the last few days

    • Yeah, I think it is gone. I've tried when they first posted this and saw the 120k using Safari incognito on my phone, but I couldn't apply at the time, was waiting on some other cards to drop from my credit report. Now I can't see the 120k anymore trying different devices, browsers, VPNs….

    • If your friend/family already got this card then you can use his/her referral link. I think the referer gets 40K and you get 100K.

  • Another data point, could only get 100k sadly. I’m a high earning moderate churner (maybe 1-2 cards a year), closed last Amex 19 months ago. Applied yesterday, asked to provide payslips, and approved today.

  • Anyone still able to get 120k? Tried all method only seeing 100k

  • Spent the limit, got the 120k points almost immediately.

  • Use the random referral link to sign up, only get 100k point but i am happy that i get approved with less than 90k income , a nother credit card and a mortgage

  • First ever card rejection for me. I'm probably averaging 2 churns a year.

  • Only on the 100k points. Raised a chat, led me nowhere, wouldn’t budge on the bonus 20k points. Thought they were more flexible

  • Does anyone know how to get a complimentary travel insurance certificate with all family members' names on it?

I have already bought a return ticket using this Amex Qantas card. But unable to find any details to get the travel insurance certificate with all family members' names on it.

  • +1

I am hoping my OZB peers can help.

I applied to the card and got approved however instead of honoring the 120k offer they have only given me 100k instead, despite I saw 120k on the site at the time of application.
Anyway they said they could potentially honor it if I can provide a screenshot of the 120k pt offer, did someone actually kept a screenshot and can share? Much appreciated if anyone can help!

  • Does anyone know if you have to pay the 'qantas rewards program' fee of $60 again for this?
I already paid $60 for qantas points through my commonwealth ultimate awards. If I get this, do I have to pay that again or is it carried forward?

    Cheers

    • If you have a Qantas frequent flyer number from the rewards program then yes it stays the same for life until you cancel it or it gets revoked by Qantas.

    • The $60/year fee is charged by Commbank and has nothing to do with Qantas. There's no fee to join or maintain your Qantas Frequent Flyer account.
