    • The points hit your Amex account the instant you make the minimum spend, then usually the day of the statement they will transfer them to your QF account.

  • Over a week without any communication from Amex aside from the initial "we've received your application" email…
Wondering if this is a common experience/if people have had success following up on the phone?

Serial churner (but not of Amex) but otherwise fairly eligible so I expected immediate approval or rejection tbh

    • +1

I had that, had to call them.

Was stuck on their side, and they just went over a few things with me on the application and progressed and was approved. Just give them a call and you'll likely find the same thing.

      • +1

Sadly I gave them a call and heard my rejection letter is in the mail.
Might have to lay off the new cards for a while

        • This is a known outcome of AMEX clamping down on people they view as being churners despite excellent credit ratings and reliability/serviceability - see multiple previous comments in this post and other AMEX posts.

  • Has anyone been approved that wasn’t instantly approved at application? I was approved instantly a few weeks ago. Wife applied yesterday so that we could double up on the points. We are both high income earners with her actually being higher. She also has less debt attached to her name as I also have an anz black card and 28 degrees card. Along with us both being on the mortgage. Just confused why she wouldn’t have been approved instantly? We haven’t been sent an email asking for her payslip or anything either, just the email saying reviewing the application. So I’m thinking she’s been rejected. Maybe for not having “enough” credit? She hasn’t had a card in her name for several years.

    • Same here for when I originally approved the card a long time ago.

I am assuming they went to check my foreign US issued Amex Cards and to verify all of my sources of income listed on the application.

    • Hi I wasn't instantly approved straight away. They needed extra info regarding payslips including incorrect name. After a phone call to verify my ID they approved me. 4 days from applying to approval

  • +6

Thought I would share but I recently applied and got the 100K QF point offer then around 25 days later it was upped to this 120K and I asked if they would grant me the extra 20K and they did. All over Live chat and around 5 mins of messages

    • Was able to be granted extra 20k via this method as well.

    • Live chat with Qantas?

    • Who did you contact to get the extra 20k, I had it the first time I looked at the American express website but when I applied it was only 100k.

  • Just got approved. Is there anyway to add the card as a digital card to Google wallet prior to it arriving?

    • No.

  • +1

Once approved, should be able to use it via e-Wallet, and not wait for the card to arrive via S-mail.

    • How?

Pretty sure you need the card to activate it, I'm currently waiting

      • via app. Or at least I know CBA has that function. No need physical card to be activated, all done on app and use right away.

        • I think a card number is needed for a new registration.

          • @sail: that's old school, well at least being spoilt by CBA lol.

        • I know other banks do it but I'm pretty sure you can't with this card

  • +2

I'm a churner w/ two active credit cards (one w/ 15k limit). I feel like my chances of getting rejected are pretty high - even w/o the active cards - but will report back for science.

    • +1

I got it with 3 active cards, ( all with limit between 15- 20K)

      • Some suggestions that 10k+ limit will get approval over the line…

    • +1

      How'd you go?

      • +1

Still waiting for a reply.. got the standard "we'll get back in 5-10 business days"

    • Got the rejection letter in the mail today

  • Okay first time applying for AMEX and I am rejected.

    • Did you get a rejection letter or just assuming so not having the instant approval?

      • I called and asked. The operator is very impatient. To be honest I hate the attitude of the operator. I was nice but the operator is not at all.

  • +1

Any idea how the points come in? got 50k… was expecting 100k++ do they do it per month or something?

    • Did you already get the card? When did you apply?

  • I have an AMEX from my company therefore is a corporate a card.

If I sign up, does it consider I’m still a new AMEX holder?

    • Yes. American Express Corporate cards are issued to Corporations with authorized users of the card being individuals like yourself.

  • I applied a few days ago but needed to use vpn to nz using Firefox to see 120k, now I finally look again using Chrome no vpn and I see 120k now!

    • I been looking every now and then but still stuck on 100k

  • Back in the day the $1 Qantas Carbon Offset was available to obtain the 2x lounge passes as it was considered a Qantas purchase. I'm aware this is no longer available. Is there another work around, withou booking a QF flight, that anyone could share?

  • +1

Applied and heard nothing for a week then received rejection letter in the mail. Letter says application declined due to credit information. Went to check my credit score and come up as excellent. Called Amex and they said couldn't help me cause they have no access to my credit history. Conclusion is: they are avoiding churners.

  • Anyone able to explain how to unlock the lounge passes easy enough. I fly out next month and want to use one then.

"Enjoy two Qantas Club Lounge invitations each year after purchasing select Qantas products and services."

What's an easy product or service to use to get these?

    • Would Qantas wine count?

      • I can't find where it says what counts.

        • It's in a separate pds for travel credit and lounge:

          1. Selected products and services are as follows: (i) Qantas passenger flights with a QF number, purchased directly from qantas.com.au using your Qantas American Express Ultimate Card; (ii) Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees.
  • I see 120K. Will I get 40k Amex points on top of 120K qantas? Ta

  • Rejected with excellent credit. They are absolutely flagging churners.

  • How many cards have you applied for recently? I have been getting a new amex every 18 months and never got declined but am due to apply for a new one in March. Hopefully they haven't tightened their rules.

  • Another churner rejected

    • Were you notified by mail or did you call up?

      • Call up

    • Same..

  • Mine got approved - text message, to be sent in 7 days, didnt have Amex after it was ditched by Westpac, hopefully will be able to use the Amex shopback offers!

  • Officially rejected by mail (probably for being a churner). Have never been rejected from any card before.

    Never again AMEX.

  • Ok they didn’t disappoint I got the card today, signed up on last Friday.

  • Got approved! But nothing states what I applied for or what rewards I got. I stuffed around until I saw the 120k, but feel a bit nervous having it no-where in writing. Where can I see this?

    • As long as you applied on the same link, it will track across

  • Applied yesterday, got an instant approval and received my card today. Happy days

Churners are better to give this a miss. Rejected for the first time in my life for a credit card or any sort of loan ! .
My income is multiples of the minimum requirement ,my credit score is 835,and i have held up to $55,000 credit card limit on top of my mortgages ( current limit is only $28,000). I churn 3-4 cards a year .
Their so called assessment criteria is primarily to check for churners first to weed them out. Hey , they are a business , and can set their criteria and are entitled to do what they do, but my advice for churners is, save your time, not worth the hassle

    • +1

I wonder if there any positive outcomes from any churners? Been hearing only negative outcomes but would be good to get a sense if any other churners were successful in applying.

  • Got my rejection call yesterday even for the $3K min - outstanding credit history and no open cards. But many many credit card applications appear on my file :-)

  • +2

    My experience.

    • Have an excellent credit history
    • I used to churn, so lots of enquiries on my file, but I have been quiet for the last two years.
    • Have two current open cards with a combined limit of $21k
    • Have a mortgage close to 7 figures
    • Following my lodgement I received an email advising they need evidence of income. Payslips and Notice of Assessment.
    • Provided almost instantly.
    • Approved 24 hrs later.

    • Did you specifiy limit or AMEX decide and what amount?

      • +1

        Specified minimum, $3k

  • Applied sunday - got a call today - confirming details on file and then said unsuccessful- letter in the mail will tell why - which usually has no details. So amex definitely avoiding churners. Gone for 6 months until next one!

  • Finally 120k offer using a VPN - after application they sent message for payslips - received text 24hrs later it was approved.
I’m not a churner - don’t think I’ve had an Amex for prob 25 yrs or more - only have 1 other CC so maybe that helped??

    • Did the application asked you how much credit limit are you applying?

      • I just left it at 'let Amex decide for you'

  • Is AMEX still considered a rich man's card?
I remember the reputation of paying bigger fees everywhere that accepts it (for the places that do accept it).

It seems like AMEX offers the best rewards for a card, so it's hard to turn down, I just want to make sure I'll actually be able to use my card.

    • The Platinum and the Centurion is sorta a "rich mans card"
Otherwise I know a lot of people whos first card was the Platinum Edge.

      • Is Amex pretty good nowadays for spending at the shops?

I'm coming from a NAB Platinum, and aside from the initial fee, it's just like using a debit card with payment terms.
Always seemed like AMEX was more conditional.

  • I'm in the same boat as other churners.
Credit score in the 800s and applied for a $6000 limit. Had to call amex to find out that my application was unsuccessful and that a letter would sent out.

This is my first rejected card application…

I regret applying for this card as I realize it is not suitable for my needs. The travel credit can only be used on QF flights, Club lounge invites are only available after booking QF flights, and there is no Centurion lounge in Perth. Furthermore, the credit limit allocated ($37K) is too high for my requirements.

    • Reduce the limit online, It was easy to do for me.

      1. Never EVER allow the credit card provider to choose the limit for you. Generally always go for the minimum credit limit unless you have a big purchase coming up and therefore set your limit accordingly.

      2. The lounge passes can be accessed by buying anything at qantas. I've obtained the passes in the past by spending a couple of bucks on a flight offset.

      3. Suggest reading what you are signing up for next time, it's a qantas credit card, hence the credit is qantas only.

      • +1
        1. Can be easily reduced online thankfully
        2. What about shopping at qantas store.
        3. FOMO got me
          1. Keep an eye on your credit reports to ensure that they also show the drop in credit limit otherwise you might have issues if you apply for other credit.
          2. actually ignore my advice on the offset, that route is no longer available. People have suggested that after booking your QF flight using your travel credit then you can log into the QF website and pay $5 to get a seat at the front of the plane. That will trigger the issue of the lounge pass.
  • Hi what type of spendings are excluded? Paying daycare fees or power and gas bills are excluded?

  • Activated the card today with 4K limit. But I just found out I need more to pay my insurance. Tried to increase the limit but got rejected… oh well….

    • just transfer money onto the card before you pay

      • Are you saying if my current limit is 4K and I deposit 2k to the card, now I can pay 6k of purchases?
Since this is the first few days activated the card, I haven’t received any statement and not sure what is the bsb and acc no to send my money to. I can’t find the bsb details on my online account. Probably need to call Amex?

  • Does anyone know if I’d get the Qantas points if I bought 3k in woolies gift cards?

    • Of course

  • Does anyone else have trouble finding stores and online retailers that accept AMEX? I think it will be hard spending $3000 just from daily expenses

    • -1

Daily expenses, maybe. Purchase a future hotel stay with free cancellation?

    • That's exactly what I'm trying to gauge as well.
Amex seems the superior card in terms of offerings by a mile, but it's only ever going to be as good as wherever you can actually use it and accrue.

Last thing you want is a card you need to always think twice before you use it.

    • Find out which utility bills accept Amex (gas, electricity, phone) and pay extra on each so they're in credit. For groceries or fuel, buy gift cards and use them as currency until they run out.

  • I'm assuming I have been rejected, I haven't heard from anyone, applied on Wednesday, seems like most are getting a call or approval the next day.

  • +1

Applied yesterday, uploaded payslips, approved just now.

I'm just over 18 months out of my previous Amex and churned several times over the last two years.

Also had confirmation of registration for the extra 20k points a few days ago.

    • Do they contact you to upload the payslips?

      • Usually send email .

        • Mine was asked during the application and I uploaded immediately. They also emailed the same a little later but I'd already done it.

  • does anyone know if Afterpay payments can be counted for the spend requirement?

    • Zip/after pay doesn’t support amex
