Looks pretty cool. Where do I buy a smart fish? 🤓

No water change for 6 months? That would be awesome.

    • mine yes see below for the exact link product.
just top up every 2-3 weeks especially during summer.
unless you have snails or overpopulated fishes, 6m is possible
but again mine has small plants on top of it which function as live filter

    • +2

No filter change for 6 months… O.P. missed to put filter. If don't want to change water for 6 months you need to have a ton of plants, which is not possible with this tiny tank.

    • +1

I have a not much bigger nano tank (not a weird Xiami think, a Fluval) and I have a good enough plants:fish ratio that I only change the water about once a year, and that's really to prevent salt build up. Fish and red shrimp breeding in there so obviously happy with conditions.

  • +1

Damn, I was after the mega-white version but this is only super-white/ultra-white 😔

    • +2

you need the smart colgate upgrade

  • +8

According to the User Manual, this also features an "Automatic Eye Eater", an "Eye Feed Button" a "Mother Extinguished Button" plus more fun features. Groovy.

    https://www.pcmarket.com.au/assets/brochures/MijiaSmartFishT…

    • You also get a SPOON with it! Amazing!

    • Yep saw that, Automatic Eye Eater is very concerning.

now ccp can kill one of my fish every time I make a ccp joke

    • +2

      Hi Tom Cotton

    • +4

      FACTS.

      ft. Ben Shapiro.

    • Just one? What CCP are you referring to.. Westernised?

  • do we change the filter after 6 months or just throw it away?

    • +1

i think the filter on those are just generic, or you can just replace with your own filtering materials like sponge or cottons or stones etc etc or maybe search aliexpress for the replacement if you really want it to be the same

    • +8

You shouldn't be changing fliters every time. This is a marketing tactic to get you buy the cartridges in the aquarium industry. Just use a good aquarium sponge and rinse it with tank water (in a bucket) every month or so. If you throw out the filter sponges you are throwing away beneficial bacteria that is helping you keep your tank safe for fish and can cause your tank to have a cycle crash, which can kill your fish.

The only thing you should be throwing away are any cartridges with carbon in it after 1-2 months (like Brita filters) as they will release any chemicals they've absorbed back into the tank after they're "full". You can also throw away any fine filter floss as these are cheap and serve to polish your water by trapping in tiny particles.

No idea what filter media is included in this kit but I would buy my own biomedia and sponges to insert into the compartments.

    Perfect for… about 3 neons?

Not going to lie… I kind of want this, but I've got enough tanks sitting around already.

Also seems an oversight not to be equipped with a heater. Otherwise couldn't be worse than a fluval (and frankly probably better with the top actually being fully openable).

    • +1

6 guppies probably fine as well. not big fat koi haha
hmm not sure this one but i can install a heater on mine (buy separately, and the smallest you can find)

    • You can't have neons in something this small (nor can you have just 3 of a schooling fish). This would be good for 1 Betta only

      • Is it ok to have just one Betta and no other fish in this tank. Will it be happy?

        • Not sure never ask my Betta but you can put a pair of Betta make sure the shop say they are pair

          • @CyberMurning: Sorry what? A pair of Bettas together? Will work if they breed but you must remove the female after they breed or the male will kill her or harass her until she gets stressed and die.

Bettas are meant to be kept solo, 20L minimum with minimal water flow. A caveat is for experienced aquarists who can keep a sorority (all females) who have been raised together as fry in a very large heavily planted tank, but even then you may get some aggression issues which is why it's for experienced aquarists only as beginners won't know what to look out for.

Depending on the personality of the Betta you may be able to keep one with other peaceful fish but again, you need to ensure the Betta is not a murder bean. They all have their own personalities.

        • Yes a beta will be fine in 20 litres - A pair/trio of Endler guppies another alternative, they'll breed but keep the population in check and you could add some shrimp.

          Alternative tank https://www.kmart.com.au/product/20l-aquarium-starter-kit-41…

          • @dingbated: Have this kmart tank in kids room for the past month with a Betta. Very happy so far.

        • Yes, Bettas are extremely territorial and males should not be kept with other fish

  • +1

Perfect for a planted betta tank. That’s expensive though!

    • -3

yeah perfect for 1 or two betta! and some anubias etc

    • Or shrimp 🦐

  • +1

i have older version of this mijia, and surprisingly still working fine after 3-4 years! no single leaks or break or anything.
mine is just pumping the water and feed into small plants on the top and then go back . so kind of nature filtering eco-system.
edit. this one https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005001607826712.html? but without the smart features

    • Got any live stuff in there? A betta or some shrimp? Would love to see a photo.

      • of course. always has something. long a go a betta, then guppy, then change back to betta….
some stage has shrimps.. also apple snail (but NO dont keep them, they pooop a lot)
and lots of plants, fern, piece of driftwood, some stones basically just like a normal aquarium.
now looking at both i think mine is still better, yes no smart thingie but the plants on the top is really cool and helpful with the filtering system and grow so healthy probably due to the fish poop it gets each day haha

        • What plant do you grow on top?

    • Why vi.aliexpress and not just the standard aliexpress.com?

      • Don't know I was just googling around randomly try to find example

  • https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005771885678.html - if only shipping wasn't $180 ahah

    • if you know how to read chinese check alibaba
      also, temu.

Why vi.aliexpress and not just the standard aliexpress.com?

Xiaomi 20L Smart Fish Tank Built in Filter/Pump & LED Works With MiHome App $199 + Shipping ($0 SYD Pickup) @ PCMarket

What a interesting thing for a PC Shop to sell
OP, you might want to add 'Fish Tank' to your Google listing

Using this for 4 months since I watch from youtube and buy cost around 240 include tank and compatible heatstick with shipping. 4 male guppies and 8 neons inside no issue(In fact, many people are raising more than 20~40 small fish in this system)
But need buy the compatible heatstick this tank for winter, The water quality seems to be very good. Keep the water pump running in third gear. just Change 10 liters of water every month.
Also got some replace fitter one of them already replace( the App will remind you when to replace)
I set up 11 hours of light per day, the biggest problem is having to do algae removal every two weeks because of the long LED exposure but my kids love that
I did not set up automatic feeding, but manually pressed the feeding button once a day. I just used the app when I was on vacation or not at home.

    • I'd probably go a aquaone nano - they're preset however to around 25c.
I'd also probably just throw in sponge in that last filter compartment that it gets you to replace so you don't lose any beneficial bacteria too

      • +1

the compatible heatstick very useful, It can accurately control the temperature from 20 to 30 degrees. In addition, the Xiaomi fish tank has a constantly bright temperature display to monitor whether the heating rod is working properly.
I prefer this modular and simple design. If any module is broken, I can replace it. Moreover, the design of the square box and the light box look more like a piece of furniture rather than a fish tank. I have also considered putting LEGO in when the fish are gone.

    • What app are you using? I downloaded Xiaomi Home, but can't see fish tank as an option in add devices.

    Thanks bought 0

Let us know how it doesn't go

  • Anything similar for their cyber dog

  • +1

I had a 20 L tank and it was fantastic.

I was able to have it nicely planted with hundreds of shrimps in there.

I was actually making (little) money selling shrimps to other enthusiasts.

    This is tempting.

    • 100s in a 20L that sounds crowded, I have 5 in mine.

  • I have one, it's good and quiet, but be warned
The tank is small, I have around 15 guppies and only have 1 gone in the last 3 months
the steam gets build up inside
Good and easy to change water

    • +1

That’s too many in such a small tank. Probably 8 max guppies.

  • +1

nice! kinda reminds me of a 'smart' fluval edge

note to the newbies: Absolutely not suitable for goldfish of any kind!

    • Why’s that, for us uninitiated?

      • +1

20L is too small for a goldfish. It will outgrow/die in no time

        • I see thanks

How big is good for goldfish?

Didn't people traditionally keep goldfish in a tiny round glass bowl?

          • @andresampras: 50-100L minimum
not a fan of the old bowl

            • +1

@Jono 777: me neither, I always felt sorry for those fish. But it was so common back then

Solitary goldfish with a plastic plant, in a round glass bowl

  • What are people's thoughts on the likelihood of this surviving shipping OK?

    Would you need transit insurance?

    • chargeback if it comes broken. not your fault.

  • Shrimp tank or betta fighting fish tank only!

Kmart has a $29 22L tank, but you'll need a heater and light which you can get ali express or ebay local sellers on the cheap. Set up some sand (wash out playing sand), get a few large rocks and plants!

  • Any water filter system? (drinking water)

  • Wait, this display different backgrounds etc?

  • +2

    Mineral oil PC build ?

    • +1

      Genius…even had temp monitoring

  • Actually pretty impressive. Didn't realise there was so much tech developments in the small tank space.

  • +2

Such a small tank, very limited use. If only were more size options.

  • +1

The fish tank "boasts a 16:9 widescreen ratio", "full color gamut light"

  • Is this the app that connects to china servers to work, or can it work with servers outside of china ?

  • +2

A bit steep for 20L tank..

    • +6

I think Kmart has a basic 20L for $39 with a crappy filter. Adding a filter $40, light $40, automatic feeder $40, temp sensor $15. Then i suppose is the design and whether that the remaining $55 is worth it for the integrated design incorporating all that.

I have a 20L that I ended up buying for $90, and about the price of the other as the other equipment and a heater and for a small tank it looks janky with all these things sticking out. For a sleek look $55 looks reasonable.

  • All sold out of fish tanks. hahahaha

  • Wow nice. Bought one. Will be handy for my yearly one month holiday. Price is fairly reasonable. My fluval edge was $300+

  • Might consider this over the fluval spec v that I have been monitoring. It certainly ticks all the boxes and has the ultra clear glass which is a bonus.

  • Just bought one and also the Spongebob themed objects, hell yeah.

  • Got a email giving option to wait 4-6 weeks + $20 discount or full refund

  • Yesterday they were “sold out - back order available”. . Today they advertise it as “pre order - ETA 31 March”. Same result, slightly different narrative.

  • Could also be used as an isolution/ hospital tank for your other larger "main" tank.
