[Kogan FIRST, Opened] Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme 512GB (International Version) $1149 Delivered @ Kogan

220

Kogan has those grey import Z1 Extreme 512GB for only 1149 if you are a member (they are open boxes probably because they need to install a version of window in English for the Australian market).

Lenovo will price match it, sending you a sealed 512GB z1 extreme with free dhl.

Hell of a bargain , saving 350 bucks and getting a sealed unit.

Not sure how long the kogan deal will last but it's been there already few days and worked for me.

You know you want to..

Just tried irl and they said because it says open you can't

    • +12

Kogan is the deal linked in post, as requested by the guidelines?
What should I correct, genuinely asking?
      Appreciate your time

      • +3

You should say at Kogan in the title.
Are you sure Lenovo will price match a Grey import?

        • +4

Done, thank you. Yes they will, I can provide receipt

          • @Deliotron: Did you buy from Lenovo direct? How was their shipping/delivery times? Bought a laptop around Black Friday that said it would ship two days afterwards and got it a few days after boxing day lol

            • +1

@bdl: Yes direct, ordered 3 days ago at the end of the day and they posted it day after. Its on his way ( living rural so always a pain, waiting a day or 3 more because dhl passes it to a local courier)

              • +1

@Deliotron: Great, sounds like they have local stock. Enjoy!

          • @Deliotron: I bought it at 1214 on edu store. When did lenovo pricematch with Kogan?

      • +1

You should say Kogan instead of Lenovo in the title. I see that you have corrected it, good job for first deal OP. Curios though, if anyone managed to get this deal, since it is international and open box, why would lenovo or OW price match it.

      • +1

Well done on a decent response.

  • A QHD display on an 8.8 inch screen.. what a waste of battery

    • Yeh I agree - Steam Deck is 720p and looks fantastic. 1080p would have been fine at this size.

      • +2

I guess you said the same for 4k on 27inch, 5k on 32in and super retina for Mac and iPhone products.

        • The point is that it is a portable device and driving more pixels adds to power consumption. Despite being powerful, the Z1 can't really drive 1440p at high quality for newer 3D games so it's likely you're going to run them at a lower resolution like 720p anyway.

QHD requires 4x the rendering power compared to the Steam Decks 720p screen for 3D content - if the Steam Deck is struggling to keep 30 FPS on newer games at 720p then how do you think the Z1 QHD will go? Performance wise at 10/15W I think the Z1 is fairly comparable to the Deck and only really pulls away at the 25W mode.

QHD is overkill and Lenovo should have done 1080p + VRR instead.

          • @NuclearWessels: Technically you're not wrong but it still looks extremely beautiful playing less demanding game. I run AAAish games like Days Gone, Diablo 4 at 1600p and no way Steam Deck can compete with it.

          • @NuclearWessels: The display in Legion Go is much better IRL than Ally. I have both. I curse the day I paid $1200AUD for piece of **** that is the Asus Ally (R9 model). Burnt through SD cards. Countless troubleshooting. And don’t give me standard fanboy reply but it didn’t happen to me.

VRR is way over hyped. Guess what, if the game tires running is more demanding than the Ally can handle it will stutter irrespective of VRR. Constant Stuttering running games like Lords of the Fallen & Nier Automata even at medium graphics using FSR is worse than Legion Go no stutters playing the same games on same settings.

Get legion go, it’s better last longer, no SD card issues, faster RAM, better FPS in pretty much every game vs. Ally (just YouTube it rather than listen to the peanut gallery here)

            • @Devaust: Don't know why you brought the Ally into it - the Ally would be my least favorite Steam Deck clone.

My point is that these devices don't have the processing power for 1600p and if you're in handheld mode then chances are you're running it at 800p or 1080p with FSR - in which case the panel might as well have been 1080p to contribute some power/cost savings.

        • Sorry, have you just compared a 333ppi portable gaming device to a 163ppi computer display?

    • +3

It's a beautiful looking screen. Do you complain the same about the high resolution display on mobile phones?

      • A phone uses significantly less power than a handheld gaming computer. Based on this review and a few others, you can expect 1.5 to 2.5 hours of battery life, and it'd be cheaper. I think it'd be far better if they chose something like 1080p. It'd still look really good. There's probably a good reason Valve went with 720p.

        • Yes, battery is reduced with higher resolution, but I believe a small sacrafice in real world gain. My opinion on why Valve went for lower resolution screen was more to do with ability to hit fps at higher resolution with the custom CPU.

    • +1

I hardly ever run it at that resolution, always at 800p with integer scaling on. I only use 1600p when streaming games from PC, which is just incredible by the way.

  • How can a deal with 8 votes in 38 minutes make the front page?

    • +3

Because it's late AF for the majority of Australia.

$1214 on Lenovo Education store… although from what I've read it's better to wait for the MSI Claw and/or next gen of this and other Windows-based portable gaming boxen

    • +12

Keep on waiting as the next one will be better and the one after that one and that one and keep on waiting and you'll never buy any because you know, the next one will be the best one BUT wait for the actually, next, next one, the bestest (hold your horses there heroes, easy there, easy, I've written it as i did on purpose) one….

Gotta love capitalism, they've always got you…

      • I've read it's more than the hardware is there it's just going to take a commitment from Microsoft to step up and integrate Windows to take full advantage of the hardware (like Valve did with the Steam deck, and MS did with the xbox ecosystem). Gen 1 is always trying new things and seeing what sticks…

What was the deal with the non-Extreme Z1 and Extreme Z1 models of the Ally and Go? Was Nvidia trying to set up Series S / X tiering of the devices or was it just difficult get yields on the Extreme part or something?

        • +1

It's not Nvidia, but AMD, that creates the Z1 chips (they also did so for the Xbox, not Nvidia). I'd assume they wanted to offer a lower-cost option but I don't know anyone who has bought the non-Extreme, since the price difference isn't that great and this is a niche premium product anyway

    • Would the ultra 7 155h with Arc8 be comparable to the 780m in the Legion though, given these are integrated graphics machines? And removable controllers a la go/switch for the win for me. If OW beat kogan by 5% that's cheaper than any Zen 4 with 780m laptop I've found!

  • If only this hand an OLED screen…

  • +2

Lenovo has declined the price match

    • Bummer

    • +2

I found Lenovo sale staff is incredibly helpless. They have no single consistent response so I would not hope that price match you on first attempt. May be try to connect and talk to different people. Or save your time by just get it on Edu store for 1214.

      • Yea I would definitely not give up first attemp on top of being very nice to them lol

      • Do you know if there is any way of getting Edu Store access without an email address?

        • +1

If you ever went to any uni in au, when you out. Your email get converted from [email protected] to name.@alumni….edu.au. contact your uni admin to get access to that and you would have official permanent edu account.

          • @ozgameboy: Monash cuts student email access after a year and doesn't have alumni ones :(

    • The kicker (?) perhaps is that the Kogan listing includes '(International Version)' wording which I suspect is sufficient for most AU sellers to refuse a price match.

  • +2

Got one via Lenovo EDU store in last deal, love it! Screen is amazing and with reasonable settings I've not had it fail to run any game I've given it.

  • Anyone who has both, how are the ergonomics compared to the Steam Deck OLED?

    • +3

Steam deck wins ergonomics wise, definitely.
But this is more powerful and the screen size is a big plus.

  • +1

Got it for $1199 by price match from lenovo Australia. Best price they could do as kogans was open box.
Got $83 back cashback as well.
