i don't understand why waste money on the flowers, buying condoms, pizza, maccas or going to the cinema instead?

    • +31

"buying condoms, pizza, maccas and bringing them to the cinema instead"

      -Fixed for ya

    • +35

Flowers to get them in the mood.
      Condoms to prevent unintended pregnancies.
Pizzas/Maccas for sustenance for pumping out your best effort.
Cinema to limit chit-chat and pass time before it’s your time to rise.

Quick, to the time machine. Set for four years ago.

        • +5

Funny how roses at any other time of the year haven't gone up 50% over the last 4 years.

          • +4

@jv: I wouldn’t know. I stop to smell them, but not to pick them or buy them.

The most magnificent I can recall were the rose gardens at the old Parliament House when it was still operational.

        • Or just buy them on the 15th for 50% off?

$5 increase from last year too!

Average Chad Ozbargain user: nice, one for my gf, and 11 side pieces.

Me: the only piece I get is kfc 9 pc. :’)

Bring a red rose into KFC and gift it to the person behind the counter. You might score yourself an extra breast or a thigh.

      • -3

Most of them in there have more than enough to share around.

      • -1

        I won't dare, I'll wreck it.

      • +5

“Feel like getting hot and spicy?”

      • They'll probably suggest you use uber eats next time

      • +12

Based on the usual age of the staff working the counter at KFC, depending on your own age, you might also score yourself a visit from the police.

        • Lmao!

        • This made me laugh

    • Having 12 girlfriends would not be very fiscally responsible for an OzBargainer

  • +7

And in a week they’ll be as dead as I feel inside

    • I think they can last 10 days is carefully maintained. Most won't.

      • Just to be clear, you talking about the flowers or the gf?

  • +1

Thanks OP! I was feeling conflicted about other places wanting $100 for a bouquet! Time to go line up at Aldi

  • 1 for each root

    • +8

Guess I'm not buying flowers then

    • They won't last for 10 years.

  • +2

lol I can only imagine all the blokes stacking up at Aldi from 6am

  • -2

How much stock availability wonder and can click and collect?

  • +23

Perfect… My crush works at ALDI. Can give her the roses and get a refund at the same time. Win win .

    • +2

      Now that's some OzBargain genius.

    • Hope she doesn't throw the grocery and flowers at you at the checkout.

      • Haha… Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

  • great deal, but i'm going to take a pass on the crazy crowd that's going to be there.

Why do people choose to celebrate this day, like it is so sad that out of the all the days the people like sheep celebrate the same day, pick your own day with your partner and make that day unique and celebrate that special day making special for your both of you, even better choose two special days.

    • You're from Bankstown. Says it all. You have too many partners. Can't celebrate all of em at the same time. Gonna spread the "Valentines" throughout the year.

    • I don't see a problem with people using the day to celebrate each other's company. A bouquet of flowers or a nice dinner isn't going to break the bank. If it makes both happy what's the harm. Who cares if it makes us sheep?

  • +3

I'll never understand why women love flowers so much, but hey they do, so thanks OP!

Might make her happy, god knows it's hard to make her happy these days but I digress… I'm old school so I'll keep giving the thing a shot unless it's crazy bad.

  • +5

And I bet when you're in on the day it'll be oops! "Shipment Delays" getting to be a regular thing with their Special Buys items that I never see them actually sell.

  • +1

With all that expensive newfangled stuff out there I'm actually glad flowers exist. They're man's underappreciated friend!

  • +5

Thanks but already got her Diablo 4 from the other deal

  • +2

Says on sale Feb 13th. Would there be new stock on the 14th or whatever's left over from the day before?

    • +1

Would like to know this too, including anyone’s prior experiences buying roses from Aldi.

      • +3

I bought the dozen for $25 from last year's deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756715

From the looks of the post, the sale started on the day but there were still plenty left at my local aldi when i bought it late arvo after work. They honestly looked much better than the roses i got the year prior for $100.

  • Aldi Birkenhead Point do not have Cupid's Bouquet but have several (about 6x Bella Brightness & about 15x
I Adore You Rose) of the others as of 9am

  • Aldi Menai did not have any of the catalogue bouquets yet.

  • Not available at aldi mosman as of 10am

  • +1

tried ALDI inner Melb - plenty of stock at midday, lots. But it's all crap. Dry and wilted roses. Didn't buy - definite consequences if this garbage is presented tomorrow.

Aldi had some other flower bouquets (no roses) that were fresh though.

  • I got in early and had a look at these, All the bunches are rubbish, buying these would be an insult. Don't even know why they bothered, they're so mottled and deteriorated .

  • +1

Any supermarket flowers are quite old by the time they are purchased and don't last very long. Many are also imported ie not grown in Australia. Florists are a little fresher but in our climate, don't last long and are really expensive - especially at this time of year. Roses drop in a day or so here.

I have read about a woman who has started an enterprise where the flowers come to you straight from the flower growers. I just don't know if they are here in Brisbane yet or even what the name is. That would be my preference though. Direct. We used to live near a rose farm and their roses, even in that climate (3 hrs north of Brisbane), lasted for ages.

  • Tried ALDI in Keilor - plenty available and not a single bunch was acceptable, if you partner is blind, they are a good choice. The single roses were nice but clearly sourced from somewhere else.

  • Out of 140 votes, did anyone get their roses?

    • Same as the comments above, the bouquets are all dry and wilted. Went by again this morning and they looked even more depressing.

The single rose on the other hand actually looked really good (at my local aldi at least) so decided to make my own bouquets with them for the misso. Most likely from a different source and they also had water containers for single stems whereas the bouquets were in empty buckets

      • Thats a good idea to make your own. I have a feeling someone in the Aldi main warehouse didnt care or bother to put these flowers in the freezer room. They need that to actually last.

  • Didn't want to take the punt at Aldi due to comments, saw a flower stand on my way home from work. Stopped by and had a look. They were quite pricy, but only came in singles or a box filled with 8-10. Asked what could be made for 60 and got a nice box of 8 flowers. Probably not the best price but flowers looked pretty good still and the box was well presented and price seemed better than florists I looked up earlier. Keep your eye out for flower stands on the side of roads as people are looking to sell before end of day!
