  • Hmm, it's only available in white… Really wish I could get a black one…

    • good spot. Assumed I was buying black one.. metal note to use my eyes next time. White is fine. not fussy.

      • I ordered one anyway as it's quite a discount from other places plus free FedEx priority shipping. I'm hoping I'll just get used to it being white… If not maybe some black electrical tape will do the trick………….

        • Note that the black version is white from the back.
so not much hard in having a white front and back.

        • The front is the only thing I look at, so black front was what I was after. I'll get a case for it so that'll cover up most of the white. Should be ok.

  • Hahah I was on the fence with this one (since I already have an iPad 3)

    But shame the offer expired.

    http://www.mp4nation.net/cube-u30gt-rk3066-dual-core-android…

    • works out to be AUD195 now after the sale price has ended. so its $12 more.

      • good point, :)

Well now there's no rush !

  • the code still seems to be working?
does anyone know if there a warranty on this? the website has no info on this other than a 30-day refund policy.

  • I bit the bullet and cancelled my back-ordered Ainol Fire (I waited for confirmation that buysku would actually refund) and grabbed this one, still got some discount and free expedited shipping, worked out to 195.28 USD which should be ~195.29 AUD on the good 'ole 28 degrees card.

    • Another thought, has anyone got a shipping notification on this one, I hope they have plenty of stock…

      • i have, the notification was sent yesterday BUT it hasn't been picked up yet…

      • I haven't yet. I spoke with J.V. through their online chat thing and according to him it'll be shipped today. Apparently the 1-5 days FedEx shipping is still accurate for Australia, so I'm still hoping it'll arrive this week.

  • Just received the tablet from the FEDEX courier. The screen is not IPS, it's MVA. Cover is white in front and back.

    • :(

    • They delayed the shipping of my tablet so won't get it tmr - not that pleased alrdy.
This news just makes me sad…

      • I think they did the same for mine… FedEx has notification of the shipping details, but hasn't received the items.

Edit: Lol, just as I posted that, I check my email and…

And now the estimated delivery is November 5th. So much for getting it this week……..

    • Say what?!

Pretty sure that's a returnable offense:

      "Cube U30GT RK3066 Dual Core Android Tablet 10.1" IPS Screen - 16GB …"

      (from website)

Also there is this forum topic on the issue:
      http://www.pandawillforum.com/showthread.php?12776-CUBE-U30G…

      • Screen quality is a little disappointing but I can live with it.

IPS screens might be of questionable quality too (from your link):

"I think Cube is once again having problems with IPS screens supply so they are using different type of screens and try to be silent about it. It happened once before - there were problems with getting "A" class screens, so Cube used "B" class instead (light bleeding, bright spots, dead pixels) and units with those screens were send to retailers. I think many of first batch tablets had "B" class screens, including mine that had light bleeding and LCD failed after 2 weeks usage."

    • This is the email reply I received from MP4Nation regarding this issue.

      Hi

I passed on your last message to our purchasing staff, they have checked our current stock and also called the manufacturer, this is what i have been told:

      • Cube considers MVA a IPS screen and MVA screens are commonly passed off asn 'IPS' screens on android tablet models. They use either MVA or IPS from different makers of screens depending on availability. They now mark on boxes and on the tablets the word MVA or IPS to indicate which was used.

      • Cube does not consider a U30GT with MVA or IPS markings as different, both are the same product to them.

      • We checked our stock and they are marked with 'IPS', this stock arrived Monday and the bulk of which has been used for the recent weekend sale.

As we were not aware that two screens were being used we did not take notice of what screen was being used. We get stock of the U30GT weekly so it could be stock from last week had the MVA screens but stock of this week are IPS.

Checking when your order was packed i would suspect the model is from this weeks stock as there were not many units left of the U30GT over the weekend. You will need to double check when you get the tablet. The color of the tablet is white with black front but we do have all white also, as the unit is almost all white we do consider the color to be white.

I am sorry for any confusion or inconvience, our side was not aware of Cubes policy of using two different screens in their productions and calling both 'IPS'.

As alwauys if you are are unhappy with a purchae you can send everything back within 30 days to get a full refund.

      Thanks

      • Wtf? I asked J.V. if they had black ones and he said they only stock all white models… Sucks about the screen. I'll check it out and if no good then return I guess…

        • With the kind of response above, I wouldn't be surprised if they won't cover return post :(

  • For those of us on Windows 8. You will encounter an error whilst trying to install the supplied windows 7 driver necessary for rooting the device. I find it strange there are no topics on rooting the tablet in Windows 8. Follow the link below to disable driver signature enforcement, install the driver and then root with a custom firmware (I used 990supersport, easy to root without playing around with hardware buttons).

  • Bit annoyed that shipping has been pushed out from tomorrow (Friday 2nd), to Monday, and now to Tuesday. It was advertised as '2-day' Fedex, and then at check-out this became '1-5' day Express shipping. I guess it was 5 day all along?

Also hoping for IPS instead of MVA screen, annoyed again that it was advertised as IPS.

Finally, to those that have received this batch already - what is running on the device by default? Does this come with chinese language and marketplace? I'm flying out late next-week and am worried I won't have time to play/root the device before I go. I just wanted to load some movies and tv shows on it, and download facebook and a couple games.

I'm in Sydney and it landed this morning, has cleared customs so should be with me by 5pm. I'll try and help answer your questions once I get it. It's probably 2 day shipping to major Australian centres but MP4nation were also a bit slow with getting it picked up so it missed the cutoff times, etc.

      • For me it was ordered about 3:40PM on Monday, but FedEx didn't receive it until late last night. According to the FedEx tracking it still hasn't left Hong Kong ("At local FedEx facility LANTAU ISLAND HK"). Priority express shipping doesn't really mean much when you wait over 2 days to give it to the courier…

        • -1

Priority express shipping doesn't really mean much when you wait over 2 days to give it to the courier…

I'm sure you were the only person to order and that's all they were doing. Sitting there and biding their time.

        • The priority shipped items should be at the top of the list for the pickers/packers. It shouldn't take them 2 days to get around to an order.

Perhaps 'take over 2 days' is more appropriate than 'wait'…

    • It's a H model with the official 1.03 firmware that comes with bloated chinese apps installed. Unfortunately, I've bricked mine yesterday with after flashing a 1.7 kernel hastily without flashing a corresponding loader for that version. I'm now waiting for a Torx T2 screwdriver to be shipped from dealextreme to remedy the situation.

  • Well, I just got mine, and it was a pre-opened box set to chinese language/kb. Is this normal?
Everything plays well enough but it has one MAJOR flaw…
I found there is a bubble 6mm diameter in the top right corner of the screen (5cm from top, 7cm from right). This is a bubble in the actual screen, not the protection film that I took off. It's very distracting and shouldn't be there.
    What should I do now?

    • Return it under warranty I guess… Any chance you could check if it's a IPS or MVA screen? It should say on the side of the box.

      • It says IPS on the box and the back of the tab.

        • Lucky you

  • Received mine. Haven't looked on the device itself, but the box says IPS.

  • Does anyone have personal experience with their return policy? I'm contemplating an exchange for one with an IPS screen.

Didn' like what I found when I googled their return policy though.
    https://sites.google.com/site/mp4nationwarning/

    • Because they're selling products in Australia they can't opt-out of the statutory warranty. Check out the department of fair trading's website.

Edit: best to ask nicely first though.

Double Edit: Also based on people vouching for them here they'll probably be happy to provide a refund. You'll probably have to foot the postage costs though.

      • Opened a ticket with them. I hope they will stick to their return policy of covering up to USD 20 for return shipping.

Planning to use this for returns as they seem cheaper than Auspost or most couriers: http://www.skippypost.com.au/

  • Hi guys, just opened it up. Changed language to english and it seems flawless so far so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones! IPS screen as well =)

    • So far, it seems like I'm the only unlucky one.

      • Did you order really early? they may have used old stock for you =(

        • Still unsure whether to proceed with return shipping. It would cost me ~$30 and I would be taking my chances with those Lithium batteries. Their incorrect item policy only covers up to $20 so I'll have to fork out $10 out of my own pocket. Then it wouldn't be a bargain. :/

  • Very disappointed with what I received:

    • There's a very tiny bubble on the screen (not screen protector, quite noticeable when the screen is dark).

    • The charger is defective, it was totally bent (most likely bad packaging)and can't be inserted into any powerpoint.

    • I also got the bubble on the screen (about 6mm diameter). Charger looks ok, but havent tried it yet.
Not sure what to do with it now.

    • I have two bubbles on the screen. A little disappointed.

    • Hmm… don't think I can see any bubbles on mine at all. Hope MP4Nation have good service then.

    • Charger is not bent, its just not an AU plug, you will need an international adaptor.

  • Changed software as per OP's link and it's working pretty well.

The bubbles in the screen are a shame, but not really a big deal when the screen is on.

The screen isn't what I'd describe as 'beautiful', but good. For $200 I think it's worth it (assuming the hardware lasts!).

Will be interested to hear what other people think when they arrive at their respective doorsteps.

  • My cube made it to Melb this afternoon and missed the courier dispatch time. Looks like a Monday delivery for me. Some 5 full business days for delivery. Gettin nervous with all these reports of bubbles and MVA screens..

    • I think if its taking this long to get to you then I would think you would be getting an IPS screen, can't guarantee no bubbles though. What does FedEx say for the estimated delivery? It's usually quite accurate.

      • Estimated delivery: Fri 2nd Nov but the last update says it missed the courier despatch for today. Ordered on Sat night.

My tablet just arrived and while it's an IPS screen it does have several bubbles in the screen, including one right in the middle. It actually looks like it might be a second screen protector on though - I'm half tempted to try and remove it…

Edit: Ok, indeed it was a second screen protector. Anyone with bubbles in your screen you can peel it off. Just use a fingernail and start in the corner and once you get a corner up the whole thing will come off.

In the end, I'm now very happy with it :)

    • I had assumed it was permanently attached after trying to get the thing off on the weekend, but I managed to remove it. Screen now has more bubbles than before but I've only got myself to blame for that :)

Much happier now that I know it wasn't a manufacturing fault. Screen is still a little dull and washed out, but for $200 it was definitely worth it.

      • Yeah, it doesn't come off easy, but once you get the corner up the whole thing peels off no problems. I'm not sure if I will install another screen protector… It's basically just going to stay at home anyway so it shouldn't be in situations where it's likely to get scratched.

        • Yeah I was wondering whether to bother or not too.

I did some googling and couldn't work out whether it's gorilla glass or not. If it's gorilla glass I don't think a screen protector is necessary.

Can somebody do a drop-test of their cube and upload the video to google? :)

        • Looks like the U20GT was gorilla glass, but they seem to have intentionally removed that from the U30GT specs, so I'm guessing it's not gorilla glass.

  • The only other thing I hadn't considered was the power adapter isn't for AU (not surprising). Anyone able to suggest/link an AU 2A adapter?

    • try DX or Buyincoins

    • I just received mine, ordered late 29th. The charger is a <b> 2pin South African charger </b>. Good thing I still have my travel adaptor.

      • Isn't the two pin just standard US? And yeah, I've got a travel adapter, but between the extended plug and the travel adapter they never sit well in a power socket. Would rather get an AU one.

  • Any idea where to get a screen and case protector quick?

    • +1

I bought two of these. US $12.59 a piece.
      http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/205210876.html

I did pay for express shipping (+ US$14.91) though, as I needed it before I went overseas. Then found a standard $5 off coupon code online

So totalled US $35.09 for two cases, delivered within 6 days

They feel pretty cheap but do the job for ~$17 each

Received my two devices today. I ordered last Monday afternoon - so just under 1 week from the time I ordered to delivery at my desk in Sydney CBD.

Both boxes say 'IPS' on the side, and no bubbles on screen.

They come with a 2-pin charger which I think is more likely Euro than South African (I remember SA sockets as having fairly unique 3-circle prongs?)

Anyway, switching to English is easy (it comes with instructions to do this on a slip of papar) and I've transferred a video file just to see if it worked.

And it was easy, for one of the units - just drag and drop into the 'Movies' folder. but when I tried this on the other unit - the root directory was almost bare. i.e the 'Movies folder' was missing (along with 'Alarms', 'Music', 'Ringtones', 'DCIM', 'Pictures' and a few other standards. Any ideas on an easy way to transfer video files?

(am going overseas soon so not sure if I have time for the full root and custom rom)

    • I've figured out a quick workaround - just needed to create my own folder called 'Movies' and it looks like the software is still scanning for this directory - picked up the video file without a problem

    • There is also a 2 prong South African version ( may also be in Euro version ) have not seen them, but it definitely fits my South African travel adaptor.
