GUYS I MANAGED TO GET IT TO WORK IN MINUTES HAHAHAHAHAHSHDBQWEBJ (sorry I'm just so happy). Payment proof :)

ok ok before we get too excited, as always:

Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions (Nigerian Edition)

Netflix has once again rolled out a 2nd price hike for Türkiye within 4 months. I said enough is enough, and decided to explore other avenues. Decided to test the Nigerian Prince to see if he'd give in. I did encounter some errors, but somehow managed to bypass them within minutes. The result? I managed to sign up to the world's cheapest Netflix (or second cheapest, idk lol) in less than 10 minutes (without gift cards), and for the record, it was my first time trying as well. That's insane in my books. There is also no 30 day local region restriction as confirmed by myself and you guys.

This guide is the latest updated guide I've made so far (with screenshots)! Please see the statistics section below for an interesting read and show some love. Any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

  • Nigeria is the cheapest country in the world for Netflix. See plan prices below.
  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they keep increasing prices every few months.
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it one of the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible. Egypt is the next cheapest, but impossible to sign up for the same reason. If you have a bank card locally from these countries, feel free to sign up directly otherwise.
  • @Scrooge McDeal's post for Netflix Kenya is slightly cheaper than Netflix Turkey, however many members have had their memberships cancelled and payments refunded.

Instructions

Please read the following instructions carefully. Please review screenshots at each step if you are stuck.

  1. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Nigeria. I used Surfshark VPN (Shopback currently has 98% cashback)!

    https://my.surfshark.com

  2. Open Netflix on a new tab (not being logged in), enter your email (a new one, preferredly) and press "get started" (see screenshot):

    https://www.netflix.com/

  3. On the "Step 1 of 3" page, press "Next", then set a password. On the "Step 2 of 3" page, press "Next", then choose your desired membership plan, then press "Next". On the "Step 3 of 3" page, click "Credit or Debit Card" then enter your CC or Debit details (I used Suncorp Debit Card). Tick "I agree" then press "Start Membership". If you get a payment error, try a different Credit or Debit Card and try again.

  4. If the payment method is accepted, then the next page will be phone number verification (I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T GET A SCREENSHOT OF THIS PAGE AS I COULDN'T GET THE PAGE AGAIN AFTER). I entered a random number in from the PingMe app and it redirected me to the next page to enter the verification code. PingMe didn't send me a code and it was dinner time so what I did was back click on the browser to the previous page (the payment page). I entered the payment debit card again and it works as expected, bringing me to a new phone verification page (or so I thought). This page (after reading it carefully) actually said "Welcome to Netflix! You've started your membership and emailed the details to [email protected], with a mobile option to set up password recovery (just ignore this). I pressed "Next" and voila - I'm now on Netflix Nigeria baby! At this stage you're done! Enjoy your membership :)

You can probably use PingMe (similar to Turkey deal) and it will still work I think. I couldn't try as I managed to bypass the phone verification step as explained above, but if anyone wants to give it a try let me know.

FAQ

Q: I just got a "Payment Declined - Update Payment Method" email from Netflix. What do I do?
A: This issue is being reported by many people who have recently signed up to Netflix Nigeria. They seem to only a few months after signing up, but once fixed, it usually does not happen again. There are two ways to get around this issue:

  1. You can contact Netflix Live Chat and enquire about the "Payment Declined" issue. Make sure you chat with your Nigerian VPN activated. If they ask, say you're in Nigeria for a holiday, or came up with another excuse. Tell them that your payment has declined and you'd like to add a new credit/debit card. They should (if not, request them to) be able to send a payment form popup directly on the chat so you can add your new payment details. If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one. Once the payment is accepted, the "Payment Declined" issue shouldn't occur ever again.

  2. Log into your Netflix account and update your payment method (Nigeria phone number required). When you follow the prompts to update your payment method, Netflix will require a Nigerian number. You can use the PingMe service to obtain a Nigerian phone number for the purposes of this SMS verification. It will cost you a few dollars to buy credits for the purpose of receiving this SMS. Download the PingMe app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store. Create an account, and recharge with "coins" (credits). 1 coin ($2.99 AUD @ App Store) is enough for 1 Netflix Nigeria SMS verification, but you can also buy 5 coins ($10 AUD @ App Store) for the price of 3 in case you need it in the future. After obtaining your coins, click on the "Verification" tab on the bottom of the app and follow this screenshot: select "Netflix" for the App/Website and "Nigeria (+234)" for the Country/Region. Proceed as per the PingMe app and use that to validate the Netflix SMS verification process.

Q: My current card expired. How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: See the FAQ directly above this question. If you're sticking with the same credit card account (i.e. just getting a new/replacement card against the same account), you may not have to do anything. Your Netflix account may automatically update to your new card details, due to a connection provided by Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, etc. See here and here and here for more details, thanks to @NitroJolt.

Q: How do I add Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards to my Netflix account?
A: There are no Netflix Nigeria Gift Cards available.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After signing up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move that is only available from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that particular country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN service for this, and most VPN providers should work.

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Nigeria going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

      • Yes, Nigerian account, used Nigeria vpn for ALL access to the account. No number verification, account not found OR recoverable 3 days later.

Maybe Revolut will work, not sure if I should do chargeback for NAB though

    • +1

Make sure you login without VPN. If that doesn't work, that's a first… No other reports yet.

      • +1

Derp, it worked, I was following the no 30 day rule with VPN. Thanks for pointing it out, no idea why it doesnt work with VPN anymore, but if it still works Im happy xD.

Lol and its even in your faq, I was probably confusing it with the turkey netflix and all the different comments.

        • Well, seems like everyone got whacked a few days later, disputed after getting a netflix isnt going to help from help chat. Better luck next time

      • I got locked out of Nigerian account and didn't even use it after signing up. Tried a few days later with and without vpn and no luck. Maybe it matched the macquarie card which I had used on the kenya account too? Don't know if they can see that information. I signed up again using revolut this time.

        • +1

Nigerian princes get your money one way or the other haha

  • Just an update, I signed up last Thursday and only used the VPN for the initial sign-up.

My credit card charge was $4.51 for the premium service.

Everything seems to be working well but for some reason my picture quality doesn't seem to be as good as what it was when I last used Netflix late last year.

Generally speaking the video struggles to rise above 11 Mbps and is around half that most of the time on average.

I'm not sure if this is the new standard or if Nigerian accounts have a lower PQ?

Apart from that, everything is going well and I can access catalogues from various regions around the world when needed with no hassles.

Has anyone here tried setting up extra profiles outside of their homes yet?

    • Looks fine on mine (with extra profiles copied (via transfer) from Turkey).
If your VPN is off, then you would be connected to Netflix Australian streaming servers. In turn should be business as normal and no different to being signed up locally I wouldn't think.

  • It appears they have stopped the phone number go back and forth workaround, so now you definitely need to enter a Nigerian phone number.

    • I signed up with a disposable Nigerian phone number but I have since changed this to my Australian mobile number.

      • Just created mine now, didnt require to put in a Nigerian phone number, just did what OP said and it worked. Went into the account and updated to my AU phone number so hopefully that doesn't raise any alarm bells. Thanks OP!

      • What website/app did you use to get a Nigerian phone number?

  • Can anyone clarify, using this method I have to create a new Netflix account?

    • No my turkey netflix just stopped today and asked for a turkish phone number. I cancelled my subscription then did the sign up process like it said and everything went perfectly.

  • +1

Just following the instructions and successful. No block 30days for me as well. New account.

  • +1

Done. A$3.83 for standard. A bit higher than $3.66 in the title.

  • +1

    Amazing work Pennies !

  • Anyone now if i have a AU account with gift card credit on it can i use the credit for nigeria?

    • Can't

  • +2

Hola VPN via Chrome ext worked for me (thanks to x d). Cancelled my turkey netflix, restarted with this one. Used UP to pay. After the payment has been successful, ignored other questions and went to use my netflix as normal, as if nothing happened. :)

  • Looking for a spot in a premium account for a month - please DM!

I got signed out and asked me to sign up a again.

    • Ditto. The party is over.

My Nigerian account has just been cancelled as of 9.46am. 😢

The message I'm getting is: " Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account."

Not unexpected, but it is unfortunate.

  • +2

    “Account is no longer active”

So do I get my $4 back?

    • Not unless you request a chargeback from your bank.

  • -2

    Ive been kicked out too.

  • Ouchy everyone

  • +2

For those people who have mentioned they are booted, can you share what things you did with your new account that may have led to the closure?

    • did you transfer turkey profiles to new nigeria account?
    • sign into your new nigeria account without VPN
    • did you have an AU mobile number linked?
    • did you transfer turkey profiles to new nigeria account?

      No.

sign into your new nigeria account without VPN

      Yes.

did you have an AU mobile number linked?

      No.

    • No
      No and no

    • Signed up new account via vpn
Didn’t provide mobile number (bypassing using op’s method of going back in the browser)
      Watched Netflix without vpn
Transfer Turkish profile to new account

      • did you transfer turkey profiles to new nigeria account?
      • sign into your new nigeria account without VPN
      • did you have an AU mobile number linked?

      Also:

      • Did you use the same credit/debit card as your other Netflix account(s)?
      • Email address reused?
      • Yes. (Copied so still on original (which is still active)
      • Yes. (no VPN on).
      • No. Mobile No, not added.
      • Debit Card: Different card, likewise email address is new.
  • I got this on my tablet: Please go to PC and sign in. I did this and it says to Restart my subscription, to select package and add payment. Interesting as we had already paid.
Anyhow, I went to the payment page, added my Revolut Cr/Card again (which it accepted) and then proceeded as normal. Worked without issue and existing 5 x Profiles were there with existing playlists etc.

In short, my first invoice showed: 14/2/24–13/3/24 and this new payment from 20/2/24–19/3/24. So indeed, they just washed away my first payment. I now expect the same to occur with the second!

One big difference is that it now says "We only allow people who live with you to use you account". I expect this now means that Nigeria no longer allows Password Sharing with external users. Nice (not)!

    • Did you have to provide a Nigerian mobile number ?

      • +1

No. It recommends adding a number for account recovery purposes in case one loses password but I don't plan on forgetting it so never added one.

        • so apparently it is due to the payment method as netflix detected that as "unsual activity". The netfix support (Nigerian I assumed) suggested that i use a differnet payment method to avoid future cancellation but there is no guarantee.

          • @ctan7: Hello, you can even add a Nigeira phone number associated, you can even work for all the time netflix with VPN on Nigeria 24/7 365 day's year.

They lock the accounts because credit card are emitted on Australia, USA/ France, revolut / Wise

The only thing i guess it will work , is a Nigerian Credit card.

Has anyone has one? I Guess not.
Otherwise you can try 3 262 259 methods they will not work.

So unfortunately and still , the Gift cards is still the only workaround that works.

            "Vilis Netflix breve est"
            .

    • I live alone but I did share my account with my mother who lives about 10 minutes away so if account sharing s banned I will just keep this one for myself and create a new account for my mother by using the same method.

    • Further to my above post. I checked my Revolut account. The initial (& todays) transaction still shows as pending.
Can I cancel this transaction says: This payment cannot be canceled by you or Revolut before 23 February. Wait for the merchant to revert or contact them.

Will monitor this and after the 23rd see if I can cancel it (assuming Netflix don't)……no idea!.

    • Yes this is what exactly happen to me too. Think game is over and they caught on

  • +1

    I was also booted!

But I was never actually charged anything because the fee was pending for about 6 days until I got booted today…

So I just turned back on my VPN and signed back up using the same account and payment details.

    Hopefully second time lucky!

    Will keep y'all updated…

    • Same situation for me, my pending charge disappeared so I just re-enrolled with the same payment details and its working again.

  • I was booted today/or last night as well.

Signed up last week with new email on 14/2. So exactly one week after. If it happens again next week, it is not worth the hassle. $4.60 per week. Lol

I used my NAB for the first and second time as my Suncorp, Revolout and ANZ didn't work.

I used Nigeria VPN for the first time to sign up but never used it on my phone, tablet, TV and PC anymore. Currently my partner, my friend and I using this account on multiple devices. My friend is not living with us but had no issue till today.

    P. S. Yesterday I logged in to my old Australia account to check the list of movies in my account. It might be a trigger to the system buttt as I can see more people are being booted, it wouldn't be the reason perhaps.

    • It seems odd that password sharing even worked for Nigeria, since Google says the following:

Does Netflix allow password sharing in Nigeria?

Netflix has introduced a new password-sharing restriction option, first in India and many other countries around the world – including countries in Africa; Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, etc.25 July 2023

  • +1

shitty netflix, just got canceled and no refund, had to call bank.

    • which bank did you call and what was their response?

  • Got blocked today.
I used revolut and just checked that the payment is still pending. does that mean revolut is not working?
what other options I have? gift cards?
    thanks

    • No, it means the charge has been accepted/approved but Netflix accounts systems have not yet cashed in hence still pending & awaiting for them the take their loot.
Of course, they might decide not to if account has been disabled or the likes which means the funds can be returned to you.

    • just an update, revolut refunded the amount because it has not been claimed by the merchant. I signed up again to see how it goes.

    • dont think it has anything to do with what card was used, I used Macquarie payment not pending & still got booted, likely Netflix detected a flood of new sign ups, have signed up again same card/acc see what happens

  • +1

Given how Netflix can detect password sharing based off IP address, it seems plausible they would consider it unusual activity to signup to Nigeria account and be using in Australia so suddenly after signing up.

I made good effort to not allow my account to be used without VPN so fingers crossed it stays under the radar for now.

I understand some others say they have only used VPN since signing up, but could be other factors at play too.

Will report back here if it does end up being booted of course :)

What a waste of time and money

  • +1

Officially booted as well. I contacted support to see if I could talk my way out of it, but they said they couldn't, although they did refund my money immediately.

  • +1

I checked my account a couple of hours ago and I haven’t got booted yet maybe because I haven’t viewed any content yet.
Am now too scared to check my account again. I’ll probably leave it and not touch the account until the next payment date.

  • for anyone who was booted, did you get an email to advise of this as well?

    • +1

No, I only discovered that I was booted when I attempted to access my Netflix app on my television and noticed that I had to log back in…

  • My Revolut payment has been reversed but my Netflix account is still active and can be used with Nigerian VPN.

    • Same here.

  • -1

tried 2 different Netfix CS and both REFUSED to partially refund the 4400NGN after they have terminated the service. I was speechless.

  • My Nigerian account was cancelled. Fortunately my Turkey account hasn't been. If they cancel that I'll be forced to sail the 7 seas… Arrrr

  • Headache lol
I could see this would be trouble so wasn't going to mess with Turkey.. $10/m for ultra HD is fine. Would advise on others leaving it as well unless you set up a separate one first to confirm works for a month (then you'll be paying double anyway lol).

    • Likewise although Turkey price increase to 229.99TRY (AU$11.51) ) on 18/02 for me.

      • Still pretty good compared to Aus although only half the price. $10.45 (199) for me mid month so next month more.

  • kicked out also, resigned up, happens again will have to beg turkey to let me back in

  • +3

In hindsight, we should've all signed up to the basic mobile only plan at ₦1,200 (around $1.14) to let things play out at minimal risk. I've rejoined on this plan to see what happens next.

    • that actually makes alot of sense, why the hell didn't I think of signing up to the lowest plan! lol

    • You are likely the smartest one here.

  • Hi all i joined the nigeria netflix and was going good but after a week or so of getting it, today i got logged out of my laptop and tv and now its directed me to buy au version any fix?

    • Remember to use VPN via Nigeria on PC when logging in to your account.

      • Still didnt work i tried both ways. How about yours ? Does it works with vpn ?

        • To log into account on PC with VPN, Yes.
It then asked to select package again and payment. All was as before once done.

  • Seems to be a mass expulsion as I too have been shown the door

  • Ditto. Mine's been cancelled too as of today. @I Smell Pennies how's yours looking?

    • +1

I haven't logged back in since the day I posted this deal, and don't plan to for a month after. We'll see if they charge me next month or not. Still many people including my mates with their accounts still active.

  • Saw the post last week but was waiting for the dust to settle / guinea pigs to iron out the bugs. Keen to hear from sign-ups who wait the 28 days before watching anything.

Edit: even though Turkey is more $$$, does this still work for new accounts?

    • yes waited 28 days and it works. sign up now

  • After a week it deactivated by itself and ask me to sign up again with my both accounts, anyone having same issue. Now im not able to process it again with the same process.
And I used 3 different cards for payment none of them worked.

  • Booted, account cancelled and no refund yet. (Up debit card)

  • Was also booted but received a refund from CS.
They suspected me of using a VPN as it was picking up IP addresses from AUS and Nigeria.

Will sign up again but suggest only watch with VPN and if account sharing then encourage them to also do the same!

    • +1

How did you get a refund? I was told the account has been cancelled and there's no form of payment on the account inorder to process a refund.

      • +1

$4.47 appeared as a debit on my citibank card so it was no longer pending. Customer service initially refused and said i had to go through my bank to request a refund, but i stayed strong and argued that i only received 5 days of netflix subscription for 1 month's payment!! Took maybe 30mins but they processed a refund as a "once off"

        • Cheers bud!

  • Same here account cancelled apparently the payment source has been removed from the account so unable to get a refund either.

I did watch without a VPN after signing up so this time I signed up again with another email and card and won't watch for a month or so and see how that goes.

  • Another one bites the dust😞

  • Just signed up now, using Revolut. Guess I'll be getting booted soon…

    • Already booted. Do any of the other regions work more than one day?

  • booted also, how do you get a refund

  • Account got cancelled today, and I've resigned up on lower plan using the same email and CC.
It signed up successfully, let's see if I got booted again.

  • Got booted as well, trying to sign up to Türkiye, though can't validate with SMS as PingMe never has numbers, any good alternatives to PingMe?

  • Really don't know what't the gossip about , you know than soon or latter, account will be locked. If they are locking accounts
If they are locking accounts TR, Kenya, Br , do you really think that account on Nigeria will "survive"!

  • Interestingly after reading everyone elses posts, i logged in to check my status, and everything is still active on my account with it saying im still on the premium plan with an upcoming payment in march.

    • That sing vitory too soon, My Kenya account was operating for 2 months , i paused it resumed End of January ! And 3 day's latter , off we go. Prohibited :)

  • i cannot login directly but can click on the email i got from netflix via gmail app and it takes me to my account page :S

  • Was just about to try this since I got the email that my Turkiye netflix is going up to 229 TL, but I guess that won't be happening

  • Done in 5 minutes, thanks OP. It's really easy to sign up as the instructions.

I turned on my Surfshark VPN to Nigeria and signed up for the cheapest Mobile Plan with a new account. Then I used Bankwest platinum debit card(no International transaction fees), and the payment was accepted straight away.

Although it keeps asking me to provide a phone number after the payment page(the default is Nigerian country code, but you can change it to Australian's based on other comments above), I just ignored it and back clicked on the browser to the previous page as OP mentioned. After refilling in my card details for 3 times or so, it then showed "Welcome to Netflix" on the screen.

I was charged AU$1.14(not pending) on my Bankwest debit card and my Nigerian Netflix account shows my next payment is 21 Mar 2024. To be on the safer side, I will not use this account for a month, or only use it when my VPN is on to Nigeria. Hopefully it will stay under the radar.

    • +1

Did you read people got kick out?

      • Someone is late to the party or hasn't read any of the comments lol.

All sounds like a headache and waste of time. Not surprised people just switched from Turk to save $5/month though.
