  • Good - Refurbished

It doesn’t even specify the condition of the tablet

    • Gamesmen are a reputable store aren't they? And free returns if it ends up having more than acceptable wear. I'm considering it.

      • +3

I haven’t had any problems with prior purchases from them during the eBay Plus promos

They are also one of the best packers when they ship your products

Switch 2 is being announced in the next Direct, rumours suggest anyway..

    • +2

Next one after the partner direct this Friday. Likely be early-mid next month when it's announcedv

        • +1

To be fair. The Switch has been around long enough with its well outdated hardware. Time for a new one.

  • +2

What can I do with this (or i.e. Can it be hacked? Can you play with non proprietary controllers? What about the dock and power supply? What do they normally go for?

    • +5

Spend another $20-$25 and get a portable switch dock from Amazon.

Pair with your 8bitdo ultimate controller and play on TV.

Or get a new pair of joycon

      • Any docks you'd recommend? Seeing a lot of mixed reviews and still fears about bricking your Switch. Only one that seems to be issue-free is the Genki which is definitely way more than $20-25

        • I got this

Basically, any type-c type would work.

You need to make sure your power adapter can output 15V/2.6A.

          • @tc423: Have you tried using the USB port for wired switch controllers? My USB ports on my OG dock don't work any more

        • Portable switch dock is basically just a usb-c to HDMI adapter with reverse charging. If you dont play for very long I think any usb-c to HDMI cable will do the trick.

        • I have this and it works great. Amazon - Switch Docking Station, USB C Hub
Sometimes, they go on sale for $18-$19.
But you'll need a power supply. I recommend using the official nintendo power adapter.

I am also using it to connect a laptop to a monitor for 2nd display,

          • +1

@Brakus: correct best is to mix the 3rd party and original. for example
i have ori dock with lenovo laptop charger (multi voltage) in living room
then bedroom setup is 7in1 usb c hub from aliexpress and ori nint charger

    • There is a new flashcart, but to cycle through games you need to insert and eject the card per game.

      • +2

        Sounds painful

        • +1

I'm not endorsing it, but it's less painful than soldering a mod-chip.

        • nope there is game card reader with remote control you just press it to cycle no need to touch the switch at all

    • +4

Only the OG batch of Switches has a software entry point, everything else needs a modchip. Not too expensive, but its not easy to install

      • +1

Migswitch does not need a modchip.

        • +1

A cart is very different to a hacked switch though. Its good for legally "playing your cart backups" and that's about it. A soft or hardmodded switch does a lot more stuffs.

      • I got the original SX modchip at launch (not the clones). I think it came out before the oled switch. Do you know if it will work with the oled switch?

        • SX got too greedy and got railed by Nintendo. There's other, better, cheaper options now. No personal experience though, I have a softmodded Switch

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah I have a softmod switch too, I fomo-bought the mod chip when SX was collapsing lol.
Was just tempted to get an oled and practice installing the mod chip if it were compatible :)

            • @idonotknowwhy: A cursory search suggest that it works, but not too practical due to the layout differences between the original and OLED switch, you'd have a harder time fitting it into the housing. The Instinct-NX being like $20 USD as well doesn't help

      • OG v1 switch with low serial are still the best investment I have ever made since playing mostly only docked and sometimes in the bedroom

Would recommend this for anyone if they are hunting for a Nintendo Switch

        • I snagged one from a Cashies a couple of years ago and its been going strong still. I mainly use mine as a Visual Novel and emulator machine though. Have Android installed as well but the Tegra is old nowadays, the OS is smooth but the screen is a bit small to be comfortable, and games performance aren't great.

          • @[Deactivated]: Nice find!! Love to hear from another fellow modded switch user

Given that I play 95% docked to the TV and have party games for when guests come over I still stand by others trying to get their hands on low serial v1 switches.

OLED is still worthwhile for others but personally happily traded off the nice screen and battery life for my use.

The nintendo switch in general is probably the only console minus PC that I can always pick up where I last left off be it days, weeks or even months away with life and simply enjoy the plethora of different games

            • +1

@omgilia: Yeah, I never saw the point for a console that's just a console, especially nowadays when former exclusives are no longer exclusives and can be played on PC. Moonlight is great as well for streaming games.

The nintendo switch in general is probably the only console minus PC that I can always pick up where I last left off be it days, weeks or even months away with life and simply enjoy the plethora of different games

Yeah that's my feeling about Nintendo consoles in general. I've been meaning to resurrect an old New 3DS that's been sitting around for a couple of years now to play Pokemon ROM hacks, but my backlist is pretty long.

      • +4

Just installed a modchip into my OLED Switch the other day and I certainly wouldn't recommend anybody with no experience in micro-soldering to even attempt it.

    • +2

Could take a chance on the V1 and hope to get a low serial that can be soft modded.

Otherwise you need to get a modchip installed which is a little bit more difficult, Ive been installing them for a while.

      • +2

Lol last time I installed a mod chip was for the PS1 :D

        • Good times

        • If only it were still that simple haha

    • The K-Mart controller for $25 is quite decent. Power supply is just USB-C. Be careful with docks - a lot of portable docks for sale are just the case, and require you to transplant the electronics from your dock (which in this case you don't have). Standard USB-C docks don't work, and some after-market docks have been known to brick the Switch (but I don't know how likely that really is - I got one from I think Temu and it works fine)

  • 12 bucks off with eBay plus (11.95 to be exact)

  • Hmm is it worth it

  • +2

$158 for the non-OLED version - $20 voucher applies if you get two so $148 each.

    • Much difference? Any other difference besides the screen?

        • This is a refurb - depends if it's the V1 or V2 model non-OLED. Original had lower battery life, V2 has the same as the OLED.

        • +3

That's not true exactly…. yes the screen is bigger, and brighter, and it is the main feature.
But it's also got double the onboard storage (OLED has 64GB), has a much larger adjustable kickstand, and better speakers. And if you get the OLED version of the dock, it now comes with a LAN port. It's not a lot, but they're all nice to have.

      • No other differences - but the screen is a huge improvement. Definitely worth $80 IMO.

        • Still the same low res 720p screen though.

          • +1

@Mondorock: 720p isn’t bad at all at that size. I can’t see individual pixels.

It’s 236 ppi, which is hardly different to the 264 ppi commonly used on iPads.

Any significant increase in pixel density would be a waste of battery life.

        • Screen def worth it - but depends if the non-OLED model is the V1 or V2 which have differing batt life. The V2 is the same as the OLED, but not the V1.

          • @Mortal Krumpet: I mean, v1 is usually worth more on the used market due to the ability to mod it lol

      • I think oled has more storage (64gb vs ??)

    • +1

      $148 with snsmd code

    • I own a switch lite console and was about to buy raspberry pi 4 and use that for the TV. Is buying a switch non-OLED and AliExpress joycons and dock thingy a better idea? I just recently setting up my projector to play games on and my switch lite cannot connect at all unless homebrewed with the pi 4. Or should I just suck it up and not waste any money and play handheld only. Am I missing out playing on the big screen?

      • Or you can get an Anbernic clone with an HDMI out.

If you don’t have controllers and dock etc, I’d just buy new with a warranty.

        • This has warranty

          • @Jackson: Even stock Switch controllers are notorious for getting drift at some point, but at least they have a better warranty over the AliE controllers they’re proposing to buy.

Buying genuine ones would make this deal not worthwhile, especially if they also need a dock and charger (and you need the right charger when using a dock if you don’t want to brick it).

      • +2

The screen on the OLED model is Much nicer and IMO feels almost like a new console when playing handheld just based on how much better it looks - but if comparing the non-OLED model to the lite, then it's just whether you want pocketable or TV I guess..

      • You mean a raspberry pi4 for emulation? That's two different things you are talking about, do you want to play switch games on your TV or run emulation and play all sorts of stuff but deal with all the things that go along with that?

      • I would say so. For 150, a refurb non OLED is pretty cheap, just need to get a cheap 20 bucks dock.

That being said, I would still get a Google tv for tv purposes. Switch don't have all the streaming apps.

    • +1

      thank you. updated the post.

rip off. might as well spend a bit more and get a brand new one with everything

    • define a bit more, closest I can find is at least $370.

      • +2

how much does a pair of joycon cost? how much does dock cost? i don't even think that this includes a power supply. Joycons are about $90 brand new. Dock as mentioned above about $25. Power supply lets say you already have them, as well as HDMI cables. that brings the total to 350. and you said closest you can find is $370. if you don't already have everything else it really isnt worth it getting this.

        • +7

I agree with you but I think there’s maybe three, maybe four scenarios where this makes sense.

          1. You have an LCD Switch and want an OLED one but don’t want the expense of all the accessories again.
          2. The screen on your Switch is badly scratched or broken.
          3. You have a couple of sets of joycons for couch multiplayer and getting another Switch unit would allow more people in the household to have their own. This sounds niche and maybe it is but it’s my situation.
          4. You want to gamble on getting an early soft moddable version. These can be had for around $250 on eBay pretty frequently without the uncertainty.
  • +1

Anyone on the fence with this deal, remember that the battery life of a portable device can be a deal breaker. If this sat around in a cupboard for a few years before being resold and hasn't had a battery change (not sure if they would conduct this for refurbishment), it's entirely possible that it would run a demanding game for only around 2 hours. But that doesn't matter if you find a dock and controller!

  • Does someone with knowledge know if this is actually a good deal?

I have an OG Switch and dock but couldn't ever justify buying a full oled setup again.

    • +1

It's not a bad deal if you have everything already. You can use the OG dock and joycons with the OLED tablet.

You shouldnt have any problem getting between $100-150 for the OG tablet on marketplace or something.

Even not working for parts V1/V2 tablets sell for $100+ on eBay.

      • Mine is a day 1 Switch so its software hackable/modable (or whatever you call it) so I'd probably keep and try that out and use the Oled as a normal Switch.

Looks like its sold out now anyway, oh well.

  • Where’s best place for eBay gift card?

  • +4

Bought one. I already own 2 non-OLED Switch consoles so this is perfect for upgrading one of them to OLED.

The original dock/joycons will work with the OLED console as well, so I can use the Animal Crossing joycons with it and I won't have a third dock lying around doing nothing.

Gamesmen is a very reputable store, so I have confidence in them honouring repairs/returns should something go wrong with the console.

  • Great deal on the non-oled if hackable.

    • -1

Pretty sure seller is aware of hackable console serials and would try to sell them at a premium

  • No point buying these when non oled full console setups are selling on marketplace between $100 and $200 lately, some with a few games too

    • Seriously? I haven't been able to find any on Facebook marketplace around my location but I'll keep a look out

  • damn the V1 all gone !

  • +4

    Good prices.

Bit of a lottery on what condition each unit is in. I bought a “refurbished” Switch from the Gamesmen eBay last year. The screen was scratched to hell, the back looked like it had taken a trip down M1, the kickstand/SD card cover was missing. I returned it without any issues based on it not being in the described condition.

  • Damn, I definitely would have heavily considered for days and then not eventually bought the OLED one!

  • Hi, I have no experience with the Nintendo switch consoles (pardon my nativity), have never owned one BUT I understand they have BT connectivity etc, can they be used as a monitor if paired to a third party device like a camera, speaker etc?

    • +1

No they aren’t that type of device. The Bluetooth is to allow the audio content from the game to be played externally.

  • +2

Kinda sux when the deal is switched to another product. Makes the prev votes misleading. And takes comments out of context.

Should have just added more info rather the replace IMHO

    • +1

      agreed

  • You can get a pair of switch controllers on AliExpress for $25 delivered - can’t vouch if they’re any good though:

VILCORN Joy RGB LED 5.2 BT Switch L/R Joypad for Nintendo Switch/Lite/Oled Cons Joystick with Dual Vibration For PC Yuzu

  • the one that is still available, HAC-001(-01) Model), can that be soft mod?

  • Anyone grab one? How’s the quality?

  • Just received mine, ordered both OLED and HAC-001 models. Instead of the HAC-001, I actually received the HAC-001-01. Its condition is acceptable, with a few scratches on the edge of the screen. However, the OLED model came with noticeable scratches across the panel that cannot be ignored, especially on light backgrounds. I'm about to return the OLED one.

    • I’m in store returning HAC-001 as it doesn’t wake it up from sleep.

About to pay price difference and get the HAC-001-01

  • Just got my OLED and very happy with its condition. Transfered my account from an old switch that had a cracked/unusable screen. Happy with the upgrade at this price point.

  • Mine arrived today. Had it running for about 30 mins (downloading games from eShop) and wifi just randomly died. Restored factory settings but now coming up with wireless connection error so it looks like the wifi chip is cooked. Sadly it's a return for me.

  • Received OLED yesterday. Back in perfect condition, some light scratching on the integrated anti scattering film on the front consistent with reasonable wear and tear.

Bought an amFilm brand tempered glass screen protector off Amazon which has concealed the scratching for the most part. Very happy with the purchase.
