        • not only do Officeworks staff sometimes call competitor stores to check that items are in-stock for price-beating, but given that the Telstra website states that outright purchases/prices are available in-store only, the only/obvious way to verify is to call a Telstra store

if you don't want to waste time visiting a store, then call it beforehand to check what is specifically required to price-beat

          • @tonester: Thanks for the screenshot. I called OW customer support again, and they said the terms for a price beat in a store is the same as online. Which is checking the third party's online store to verify the claimed lower price. I said the phone can be bought outright in a physical Telstra store or via their app, two sales channels being completely ignored here. Made no difference. If you show them a screenshot, their process is verifying it by looking online, they will refuse to call a physical store. I don't think OW will price beat this unless you get very very lucky.

I think asked them to point to the section of their "Price Beat Guarantee" where it says they won't match an in-store price or app price, which they couldn't because it isn't there.

            • @tone212: don't call customer support 1300 633 423 - call the actual store where you want to price-beat

if you don't want to waste time visiting a store, then call it beforehand to check what is specifically required to price-beat

              • @tonester: I did that with my local OW - they won't call a Telstra store to confirm the price and showing a screenshot is no good. I was told to go the Telstra store, call the OW store on loudspeaker so the person working at Telstra can verify the price. I asked how I would explain that call to the person at Telstra. They're not going to be co-operative if I tell them the reason for the call is a price beat at OW. Response - "I understand but we don't have time to call stores and we don't do that". I don't get why they can't just call the store to anonymously verify the price? It will take a couple of mins tops. So ridiculous.

                • @tone212: sorry to hear, i’ve never encountered such difficulty :(

how do they verify in-store prices and/or stock if not online to price-beat?

try a different staff member or store, else if you’re in Melbourne, then feel free to pm me

Just went into Strathpine Telstra Store and purchased outright iPhone 15 Pro Max and they have the sale banners up and not even a single reference to needing a Telstra account which I don’t have. Straight outright with $300 off and easy sale.

    • what did they require for the purchase?

  • +1

Straight in and out of telstra store with iphone 15. They dont need anything but your card for payment.
All those in confusion or price matching just walk-in and you will be served.

  • Went into Telstra Jimboomba and bought an iPhone 15 Pro. Very quick process and they don’t seem to need your ID to buy for some reason. No need to make an appointment too.

  • If I buy an iPhone 15 Max outright, is it locked to Telstra or can I take it to another provider?

    • +1

      It's unlocked.

  • Good deal. Better than the $1249 on eBay for the iPhone 15.

  • Is Telstra selling those iPhones at a loss?

    • +2

They will have an agreement with Apple to not be paying normal wholesale price or be receiving a rebate.

It’s a good way for Apple to have a “sale” without setting the precedent of doing it at their own stores or big stores like JB who would advertise it, devaluing the product in people’s minds. A discount with a plan, that’s just standard telco stuff, oh and it’s available outright but only if you know to ask for it in store. Little bit of price discrimination.

      • What are you on about? It's advertised on every Telstra store with a sale flag on each iPhone. You don't have to ask. You just in the store to buy the phone and that's the price they will charge you, as soon as the phone is scanned, the price shown is the discounted price , you don't have to ask for it.

        • He is right. If jb had a sale it would devalue it, but this deal won’t.

  • +2

Went to a Telstra Store and was told they only sell the phone outright to Telstra customers. Annoyed - was also told buying a prepaid seem won't work, it needs to be a postpaid plan

    • +1

better go to another store then, i purchased one today outright, i m at prepaid plan.

  • +2

Walked into telstra Vic Garden Melbourne and asked for the 15 pro. He asked if I was buying outright and what colour I wanted. Quick and easy process

  • 22/1 I can confirm that this one is still working.
I tried to ask Telstra customer service if they have an outright option for online buying, and they said no, in-store only. But you can pay outright IN-APP. The problem is I need it ASAP before mom flies, but they give me “delivery only”. So I ran to JB HIFI. They accept the deal. Don’t forget to bring and show them your Telstra ID, show them step by step. Yea here I go, I got the phone today.

    • Congrats. Which one did you get?

      • I got 15 plus blue. The color is so nice, and I’m thinking about swapping my phone with her lol.

        • The man got an RED watch. I’m seriously considering that for my next watch.

    • nice - so for JB Hi-Fi to price match, you just showed them the My Telstra app?

    • Is she flying back to America?

  • Not having much luck getting a price match/beat. Running out of stores in the area to call. To anyone successful with this… how did you go about explaining it?

    • You don't have a telstra store nearby? I was able to walk in and buy outright without being a current telstra member

      • +2

She/He doesn't want to buy from Telstra, getting it in JB / OW people can use discount gift card (and I bet ops in both company know that).

        • +1

Yep exactly… Will most likely pull the trigger with Telstra if forced to but just waiting out to see if we have any breakthroughs on this

        • Ahhh ofcourse - forgot about those

    • Haha

    • Tried another OW store this morning, was told they've received a direction from head office not to price beat this deal. Probably because they'll lose money doing it. Not really a price beat guarantee is it?

      • Is it in their T&C they don't price beat under cost? If Apple is give Telstra preferences pricing, then we should blame Apple not Officeworks

      • +1

interesting - their Price Beat Guarantee doesn't list such an exclusion as these:

perhaps we should report them to the ACCC for misleading/deceptive conduct?

        • OZBs got way too much free time……

Just think for one moment, if a business is loosing money on a SKU, then the more they sell the more money they lost, would you do it if you are the business owner? Especially when the business itself did not cause the situation (like price error).

I mentioned already if one want to score a cheap phone and has good Vodafone signal, just sign up tp Apple carrier deal, stack with 10% price match and 10% of gift cards its a very good $758, plus $69 a month 150G for 24 months. It actually work out almost the same for Outright + BYO.

p.s. Trade in an Iphone 13 pro or sell to CEX then the new phone is almost free.

          • @syswong:

if one… has good Vodafone signal… for 24 months

thanks, but that's a big if for some

            • @tonester: Yes I agree but no brainer for me🤣🤣

Just port out from the CBA More deal to Moose Mobile…. what a big difference!!

Problem with Telstra in my area is not just lack of 5G penetration but 4G capacity. Using Amaysim Optus 4G, Moose Optus 5G or Vodafone 4G/5G, I can run reports, upload files, youtube and email all at same time. With that More/Telstra connection, once I start running my report, everything goes so……. slow.

              • @syswong: Same here, telstra coverage is very limit. 1 bar 4G at home, speed 0.8mps. At Jb Hifi, I was trying to ask iphone deal price match, but couldn't open website. My new Samsung S24 only had 1 bar 3G. This is Telstra. I ordered Moose SIM, it's on the way. I'm in Sydney.

              • @syswong: I agree Moose Mobile is pretty damn good, and i was against Floptus for 20 plus years

            • @tonester: for 99.7% of Australia’s population

        • +1

It is totally misleading and deceptive. If you want to offer a "guarantee" but have the right to exclude a price beat that squarely falls within your policy… you need to have that right outlined in your policy or too bad.

Anyway, looks like I'll be buying from Telstra. It's still a good deal.

  • +1

Placed an order but the invoice only has the Telstra company name and ABN without an address. Rang TRS and they said it could be an issue to claim GST as they need an invoice with retailer's name address and ABN. Does anyone has experience in the regard previously? Thanks

    • I've emailed customer support before and after about a week and chasing twice, had a more "official" invoice sent with my details on it. It is better to ask in store as apparently they can add that detail there.

    • just photoshop your address? sif TRS have the time to check. Long as ABN and invoice number is valid.

    • Was the invoice an electronic one or paper?

  • Can't you bulk buy and then sell?

  • +2

    Ok here is an update..
I went to Apple store and bought 15 pro max 256g with $220 off.
They didnt price match with telstra deal, but the guy at the apple store was kind enough to go to google and check all the iphone pro max listings and we found a cheaper deal from a website called Reebelo.
So he said this is good enough and in 4mins deal is done
I went to apple coz i could use my Gem Visa. So i got 24 interest free payment plan.
    I went to Apple Doncaster.

    • Ok

    • +1

interest free, but how much is the fees each month?

  • Ordered 2 pro max 512gb from Telstra app. Delivered next day. Happy wife happy life.

    • +1

      2 wife…………s

    • +1

      Happy wife happy gf

  • Does anyone have a screenshot of a successful jb hi if price match ?

  • Optus is happy to match handset pricing and offer a plan for $59 at the price of $39. - Checked on chat
Not satisfied with Vodafone, which already has a $150 discount and offered an additional $150 off on the lowest plan is $49 ($40 for students). - Checked on Call
Telstra's billing is problematic: Payments can only be made through direct debit. It does not allow advance payments via bank transfer, BPAY, or Australia Post.
To purchase outright through Telstra Plus, an active Telstra service is required.

    • Optus is happy to match handset pricing and offer a plan for $59 at the price of $39. - Checked on chat

How long is the contract? I guess has to be at least 24 months? and I guess its 100G data?

      • Vodafone, Optus, and Telstra have month-to-month plans from my understanding. There is no contract per se. You can check with them.
I believe Officeworks (Optus), Harvey Norman(Optus), Flybuys(Optus), jb hi-fi/Goodguys (Telstra) and apple(Vodafone) plans are 12-24 months

Whatever is $59 plan is offering. I believe $39 is the first 12 months but Optus store might offer 24 months. last year they offered me a 50% discount on the $59 or $69 plan. I am currently with Boost and still have a week to go..

  • Went to OW for a price match today. The guy was under the belief that the Telstra stock is different from common retailer stock because the framework is designed for Telstra, and the phones show 'Telstra' logo during the boot. Is this correct?

    • Nope , boots up like a normal iphone

  • Went to Highett OW yesterday, the sales guys were very nice, I showed them both the Telstra app and my cart in browser, they tried literally around 20 mins research and compare and refresh the pages and then gently asked me why they can’t get the outright button from their end, I explained that in Telstra app and in store are allowing customers to purchase any phone outright without a plan, but they gently refused to price match because they said OW needs them to record the price from their end, but in the end they offered me to price match Costco, so I can use the 20Xpoints Celebrate Ultimate gift card from Coles + Onepass 5Xpoints.

    • so this store's claim that head office had told them not to price beat this deal is false?

they tried literally around 20 mins research and compare and refresh the pages

you didn't show/tell them beforehand that it was available in-store and via app only?

they could've spent that time calling a Telstra store instead to confirm/verify

      • They didn’t call, I think they represent OW, so they won’t call, yes I told them that they can call and they can get a Telstra app to get the same outright button pops up, but they said it has to be on their OW checkout computers, he didn’t mention anything about head office, so I think Telstra deal won’t have any chance from price matching OW or JB, the only thing I can do is to buy the 20x points Cole’s ultimate cards and PM Costco and buy from OW, and scan flybuys to claim the Onepass 5Xpoints and if you have any points rewards credit cards, please use it when buying gift cards!

  • how do I see this deal on app for outright? App opens some internal browser and shows options only for 12/24/36 months.

  • Hey all, does anyone happen to have a screenshot of the Telstra outright price for the Pro Max 1TB, please? TIA

  • -1

It appears that the option to buy it outright has been removed. I only see 12, 24, 36 months plan
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/a…

  • To buy outright in store do i need a telstra id or can i just walk into a store and buy without a telstra id?

  • Guys I downloaded the Telstra App and signed in with my Telstra ID and when I hit shop its opening in a new browser which only has 12/24/36 plans.

How do I make the iPhone 15 show out within my app? Currently my app only shows Apple watch and iPad options

    • I can get iPhone 15 Pro and Plus to show but not iPhone 15.

  • Thanks to OP for posting this.

Went to Telstra at Broadway Ultimo in Sydney, they didn't have iPhone 512Gb stocked but happily let me order 2 outright for home delivery or store collection, they confirmed no Telstra ID/customer etc. required.

  • +1

Managed to finally get a price beat at OW after trying quite a few stores. $1804 final price for a pro max 256gb. They confirmed the outright price by calling a local Telstra store. Not sure if the overall effort was worth the $95 saving! But happy with the deal.

Not going to name the store to prevent ozbargainers descending on it and getting the nice manager who did the deal in trouble. But give your local OW a shot before buying from Telstra. Explain right up that it’s an in-store deal and not available online, and that you have called a Telstra store to confirm the price and they will need to do the same.

    • Thanks for the update, so did you visit OW store or called them and do you mind say which state you located.

      • Called the store and the manager confirmed the price beat could be done before I visited the store. They did try to push me to go into the store to discuss but I said I wanted to make sure the price beat was possible first. Located in Victoria.

    • That's great news! Just wondering, did they call Telstra on the spot while you were on the phone? I tried calling Telstra on my own but they never pick up on the spot and I am asked to leave a message in order to get a call back.

      • +1

Yes they called Telstra when I was on the phone. The manager had the same difficulty in calling local stores, getting a messaging service only. Before I called OW, I was able to get through to a Telstra store on calling and so I told OW to call that specific store.

So if you're going to give a OW price beat a go, I recommend calling a Telstra store in advance so you know it's one that actually picks up the phone. Looks like this messaging service is store preference, so need to find one that doesn't have it.

  • Can I get any Telstra rewards points if a buy iPhone 15pro outright ? I am a Telstra prepaid customer.

Also people have said this will be unlocked, so it can be used with ALDI and boost too? As I intend to get one for my sister

    Thanks.

    • +2

You won't get points for outright purchase, you only get points on device repayment which requires you to have a active postpaid plan. It's unlocked, can be used with any provider.

  • Buying a iPhone pro from Telstra vs apple shop. Is there any difference in what software is loaded or any other features ?

    • There are no difference in software or features

  • Is it still possible to buy the phone outright in store for this price?
Will I get a GST invoice?

    • +1

      Yes
      Yes

  • when the tesltra promo was first announced I managed to get HN to give me a HN gift card for the price difference under their 7 day Price Match Guarantee | Harvey Norman but it was difficult a long wait as all Telstra stores now have a 1800 and no one picks up so i guess staff gave in after a long stand off in store.

to get the TRS gst back does anyone know if customs will ask you to open the box to see the iphone and compare imei numbers on receipt as its a gift ?

    • Yes

    • +1

I claimed a few months ago with the QR code and they didn't ask to see the phone. Might depend on the officer you get.

      • +1

The one I had didn't bother looking at the goods.

  • If anyone had luck in a price match from JB/TGG or OW and is happy to share the receipt, please DM.

  • Just random thoughs, do they accept trade in value as well? My previous plan is with optus

  • yes they do accept them

  • +3

Picked a 15 pro max up this afternoon from the Mt Ommaney store and had a rather bizarre interaction where after I paid for the device, they decided they wanted to open the box? I had to be really insistent that I wanted to do that myself (for nearly 2k you can bet your ass I want to be the one opening it!) - eventually they let me leave after being told that they will take no responsibility for the device after I leave the store. Very odd indeed.

A great reminder why I left Telstra years ago.

    • They wanted to pop your cherry. I imagine they are used to doing this for poor old souls who buy phones from telstra usually.

    • +4

eventually they let me leave after being told that they will take no responsibility for the device after I leave the store.

They don’t have the authority to say that - Telstra are the retailer so are legally responsible for warranty claims.

      • +2

Oh I know - but I just smiled and said “ok!” and left

        • You're a more tolerant person than I am!
