  • damn i need this for the ute. anyone know if it runs off 12v or mains?

    • Looks like mains (which is mentioned in description).
More discussion on the same Grill when it was on sale months ago:

      • Cheers yeah had a look at the manual I’d need to add a inverter to my setup to run it

    • IMO you're better off getting a Weber GA for your ute and packing charcoal and a butane torch into it. That way you can smoke and sear, takes up less space, cheaper to run, and no power needed.

      • Not allowed during the fire bans

        • Fair point but they’re not very common in NSW outside of the Chrissy holiday season.

  • +1

You're not getting a brisket in this thing.

    • Manual says otherwise:
Brisket 7.25–8.62 kg / 16–18 lbs. Hot Smoke Cook until internal temperature reaches 91°C / 195°F

      • What are the dimensions inside?

        • Cooktop Width (mm) 332 mm
          Cooktop Length (mm) 447 mm

          • @Crownie: Might be fine

            • @TEER3X: You'd get away with a half brisket but not a whole one unless you do the foil ball trick.

              • @Cheaplikethebird: Not worth it for me then, I think I'll just get a smokey mountain or kettle.

                • @TEER3X: Get a used Weber kettle, best value and most versatile if you're starting out.

      • If you pull your brisket at 195 it won’t be cooked properly. I don’t even use temps just cook to tenderness with a skewer

        • Indeed

        • +1

I target mine at 91 degrees as well but that's my cue to put it in the foil then cook for another 30 minutes at 110 degrees smoker temp

    • Brisket is overrated anyway and not worth the price per kilo

      • That is so not true.
For everyone in my family when I prepare a smoked brisket it's one of the highlights from any food we have prepared, including lamb cutlets on the bbq etc. and lamb is always a fav.

        • Yeah for me personally I'd rather spend the money on a nice steak to reverse sear, otherwise I've mostly moved on from low & slow. I get 10x the compliments for my burgers that I grind myself than I ever did for brisket or pulled pork. Doing an American BBQ spread is like $100 minimum, usually more like $200, whereas I can feed 6 people burgers for under $50.

          • @Cheaplikethebird: So from family and friends, steaks are good same as burgers. But the rave the brisket gets is always so much higher. We make our own patties which also kick the restaurants ones out of the water. But brisket always gets most praise.

            • @maverickjohn: Fair enough. What are you smoking on? Maybe I just need the proper offset experience.

              • @Cheaplikethebird: In just using the cheap Bunnings one https://www.bunnings.com.au/char-griller-akorn-kamado-kooker…
Mesquite is better than cherry wood but looking at trying Hickory next.
The rub is also super important. Our home made rub is really good. But we also have one from Costco that isn't too bad. Smoked paprika is the dominant rub flavouring but you can mix with a little sugar, salt m ground mustard etc to make a profile that works for you.

                • @maverickjohn: Do like the Americans and use a neutral wood (post oak, pecan)

                • @maverickjohn: Yeah I don't know I think maybe we have different tastes or maybe I've just tired myself on the smoke flavour.

          • @Cheaplikethebird: Nothing wrong with that, but you get plenty of offcuts when trimming brisket to make sausages or burgers (just add chuck roast and short ribs to the grind).

      • The price per kilo is variable :)

    • +1

I could fit 3.5kgs brisket in it.

  • Bought this late last year - works very well

    Generates a lot of smoke
