Anyone think its worth the risk paying off a 40k HECS debt with these and paying with a Velocity credit card? Total savings $3200 + around 40k Velocity Points , total profit around $4000…

I just couldn't imagine having something go wrong and then having 40k stuck in prepaid Mastercards… lol

    • I imagine you could resell them at discount pretty easily.

      • Sounds even riskier :')

    • if it fails then you can retain them for future to ladt maybe 2-3 years or sell them or convert to ebay or amazon gc etc.

      • Yeah that's not a pretty thought to think about haha. Besides the risk of holding 200+ hackable cards, I don't think I would be able to spend 40k in the next 2 years even with my normal living expenses.

    • You have to factor in card fees for paying via card, no?

      • Good point, I am not sure what my Citi card fees would be if I purchase through giftcards.com.au …

        • +1

There’s no fees for that, but fees when you pay at HECS.

    • I paid off my HECS with them from one of the prior promotions and people are saying paying the ATO still works, so yes, worth it.

      • Thanks, how long ago was it, and how much did you pay if you don't mind asking?

        Any hiccups in doing so?

        • +1

More than a year ago and about $6k. Went fine, HECS gone before indexation. The only issue with paying is you can only make 5 transactions a day (some people say 10). But you can make another 5 per day from https://www.governmenteasypay.gov.au/payATO you just need to get your ATO reference (from mygov).

I also preloaded a bunch into my tax account cause I owe a lot of tax.

    • +1

I've paid 33k HECS debt using these cards and was so worth it cause saved net 7.5%+ all the FF points

  • Keep failing! F**k it

  • Managed to buy $5k worth, but system error on loading the cards to use. Has anyone faced this?

  • Up/CommBank/Westpac/28Deg/Adelaide cards all failed for me. Tried again with my Westpac CC in a Firefox Private Window instead of Chrome, plus a different email address and that finally worked

  • Has anyone bought more than 10 x $250 with the same card details?

    • +1

I was able to get 20 x $250, across 2 transactions with Virgin Flyer Card.

      • but it says only 1 order per customer so how you made two transactions?

        • Under partner's details but same credit card.

    • yes

  • bought 10 with virgin cc , went through fine and got the cards within few mins. Used for ATO

tried westpac after that and got the fail message

  • I am getting Incorrect configuration, when I click to pay…i cant even enter in credit card details.
    Any ideas?

  • Want to make the most of this - anywhere else I can utilise?

I don't reliably spend enough on groceries or amazon really.

I can prepay my health insurance a little bit and have prepaid my bills. but interested where everyone else is doing it

    • Utilities + rates + woolworth Gcs

      • Can you buy Woolworth gcs through the rewards app?

          • @timhn: yeah the website works but not the app

            • +2

@ValouSydney: Go through rewards portal like NRMA who have 4% off woolies gift card.

You can buy $260.41 woolies gift card with the $250 which you paid $231.30 for.

If you have access to senior discount there is 10%

              • +3

@CodeXD: Senior discount is only 5%

                • @sintro: Thanks for the correction, you are right it is 5%.

Here are some ideas without card transaction fees.

Probably we should create a list for this…

      AGL through Paypal, Red Energy
      Sydney Water through PayPal
MediBank can prepaid them for a certain amount (Ahm can do the same but with card transaction fees)
Opal Card, wasn't sure about Melbourne or Brisbane transport card, you guys have a try.
      NBN/Internet Bill

      • I wasn't able to get it to work for topping up my GoCard online. (Brisbane transport card)

  • Failed with free Qantas Amex card but worked with uBank. Maybe because it was a debit card? Was for 6 x $250 cards.

  • +1

as of 1450 transaction failed on visa, mastercard, Ubank, st George, debit card, credit card,

on firefox and chrome, private browsing

    changed e-mail

  • incognito + anz visa credit works for me, bought multiple times

    • +1

      same details, email etc?

      • changed email and address

  • o.no. I am waiting for these to pay my council rates. but unfortunately, I can't wait and pay the full council rates few weeks before. just get 1k for coming water bills and prepaid for the council rates..

    • You must drink a lot of water

      • Or use the toilet a lot

  • +1

I tried NAB, Ubank, ANZ, ANZ plus, BOQ, BOM, Commbank, all failed. Called some of them, they said no issues with the cards or accounts. Have no idea what's the problem.

    • Won't work for me either and never had problems buying these cards before. I wonder if it's to do with being blacklisted from buying boost sims. I'm blocked from those.

      • Talked to customer service, and they said it was sold out early

  • Finally managed to get 2x10 with Up debit card
I believe it's the site itself blocking transaction as there are too many.
Guessing from invoice number, there are around 6000 transaction within 60 minutes.
I guess their system just cannont handle more.

  • +1

Tried with my CBA card, failed, called CBA, they blamed giftcards.com.au for "not sending them any transaction request through to CBA after user entering the netcode"

they told me it definitely an issue with the merchant, not with them…

    • -2

Yeah I got the same from both NAB and Bankwest.

    • +1

      Same explanation from NAB

    • my 2FA code went through fine this morning. So I guess its load dependant on the servers. Many OzBargainers spamming the same purchases for free money..

This is probably better than not getting Taylor Swift tickets lmao. You win some, you lose some.

    cannot pay ydney water bill???

  • +3

If buying second time, buy it from a different IP address i.e. If home NBN has been used for buying one set of cards then use your phone's 5G or work machine to buy the next set.

    • Thanks, had transaction error but went through as soon as I changed IP address.

    • Thank you, works a treat!

  • Finally worked for me then after multiple failures this morning on various cards, using one of the same cards that failed this morning. Only difference was using a different email address. No idea if that was the actual reason this one went through

  • worked with my amex but not an anz debt visa… cant put my finger on it…

  • Used a different IP and it worked nicely again, did 2 more orders of 10 GCs! :)

  • first 4 with amex cc worked… next 5 with same amex failed 3 times….

  • This is also a good card for buying foreign currency purchases. Even after losing 3.5% or so, you are still 4% ahead, plus you get whatever points you earned buying the card.

    • Do you mean buying items in foreign currency or buying foreign currency at a money exchange place?

  • Not to be today I guess, Tried 5 seperate cards between ANZ & ING. Incognito, mobile browser, talked to bank but no luck. Just keeps failing after OTP.

  • +2

bought 10 with amex, no issues

  • I haven't purchased any last deal, but I remember last deal I could not purchase them from my PC but as soon as I went through my mobile network + mobile browser I was able to purchase without issues. Maybe try that if it keeps failing

  • Can i use this to pay for bpay payments for my credit card?

    • No unfortunately you can't

  • +1

    Sold out now.

    • -1

Ah damnit, was just about to buy my second lot of 10x$250. Should've taken my lunch break early.

      • Thanks the neg I guess. You OzBtards sure are weirdos.

        • it is one neg out of like 100,000 members community lol

          • @CodeXD: Not all OzB members are OzBtards, they're a special bunch.

  • oh luckily i bought 6 before it disappeared now

Too bad we cannot transfer the amount to paypal wallet anymore :/

Anyone find a way to transfer the money back to your bank account?

  • +1

Failed more than 10 times on my computer. But it has finally worked on my phone! Bought $4000. Thanks OP.
Time to pay for my rates and insurance!

  • game over guys, promo is gone.

  • +4

Party's over. I only managed to get 10 this time, got 50 last time they ran this.

    • Respect, mind if I message you?

      • sure, how's that work?

    • If you don't mind me asking, what does one do with 50 of these? That's 12.5K.

      • +1

I didnt do this but i can see how it would be easy to spend that much. My family health insurance is about $6k, rates $3k so thats $9k already. Prepay water, gas, electricity and internet and well and truly exceed that amount. Even a month of groceries is probably about $1k

      • Pay council rates, utilities, insurance, ATO, easy to rack up $10K+, save yourself $750 in the process. Getting a discount off the ATO = priceless.

        • OK. I had thought the ATO stopped taking these, and I assume it attracts the small mastercard fee as well.

      • ATO and council mostly, any excess cards go like this:
        1. Load them onto your sports betting app of choice
        2. Bet on a game in the closing minutes when the outcome has already been decided
        3. Cash out the full $250 value + your tiny winnings, paying only $231.30 each time
        4. Profit???

    • What credit card do you use?

      • +1

Had an amex last time it ran, no cc this time

  • +3

    Thats dissapointing. Prematurely finished

    • That's what she said

      I'll see myself out.

  • +2

Not even 5pm and it's over?

  • Anyone only receive 8 out of 10 gift cards from an order?

    • +2

When I order them, a tip, I name them like this in the msg, 1.1, 1.2 1.3, 1.4 etc cos they all look the same.

      • +2

Brilliant idea. Too late for me though

        • No problem, this help you with organising which card to use and the balance. I believe you should already know this by now but, I would convert these to digital card using:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833547
Courtesy of the user who posted the deal above
At the moment no fee the white digital visa card. (can be added to apple/samsung wallet).

This way you don't have to worry about it been hacked. :)

  • ANZ told me that there was no block on my card, but it still kept failing after my first purchase of 10x. 😔

  • They always close early. Not a great luck wasted a day with just few . Not even worth the time buying.

    • +2

      work paid for my time

  • Do these prepaid cards have international transaction fees? And is the conversion rate the Mastercard one?

    • From memory they do, don't have the physical card to see the fee. 3.5% i think don't quote me.
