  • Can anyone vouch for the build quality of this

    • My initial research indicates if you want to plonk a laptop around the house and want great specs, this is a great deal.

If you want portability or high build quality, this laptop [and its brick] are literal bricks with the specs [at the price] coming at the cost of some issues.

It's going to be very hard to get a similar spec Legion though, for sub $1900.

      • hmm recently got an loq for 1000 was seeing how my loq compares to this

      • used one of these for school, for about 2 years. Moving it around with any pressure on the screen(really easy to do because its plastic) WILL leave marks on it from it rubbing on the keyboard whether it be carrying it around with books on top or just in a laptop bag putting pressure on it. Also the coating on the keys are quite easy to rub off after repeated use, although that might just be me using some 70% ipa to clean the laptop every once in a while.

        Hinges will break of course.

the rest is the same with these more budget gaming laptops, small trackpad, bad camera, creaking hinges, heavy asf, loves the wall.

As with what someone else said, its more of a semi portable workstation. That said if its your only computer your going to use and want someone thats able to game on with a budget, sure.

I could go on for longer but i'll just leave it there

    • boomer tech quality

    • I have a last gen with 3050. Plastic quality is really good
Build quality is way better than nitro 5 and metabox I owned previously. No keyboard flex. Generally runs cool and performance is typically top of the class.

Cons are bad screen, smallish touch pad, big, heavy, below AVG camera, no SD card, no mux switch on mine and Dell bloat.

      • So Dell G series definitely better than Nitro in terms of build quality, but this laptop seems to be quite thick & chunky, right?

        • Yes thick, chunky and chocolate textured plastic which feels way better than cheap plastic feel on nitro (I had nitro 2021/22 version with 3060, returned due to throttling). Also my g15 is going strong since Jan 202. I paid $750 for so can't complain.

        • Also looks like screen on this is very good 100%srgb and 3ms 165hz

  • This one is really great. It was like 1200-1300 after all promo codes and cashback during BF sale. Screen is 100% sgrb and has 3ms delay which is great for gaming. Only downside is the big chassis and super heavy charger.

  • +1

Gaming laptops with only 512mb SSDs seem odd to me. I struggle with 2tb!

    • -1

      512mb?

    • -1

      Pretty sure you mean 512GB?

Must wait until next financial year.
    Want a 14" 32GB 7840HS/U with OLED.

    • Me too!

  • What would the equivalent desktop tower computer cost?

    • +1

Apparently the desktop 4060 and mobile version are very close in performance due to its efficiency. Looking at previous 4060 deals, about $800 for a desktop equivalent (ofc the desktop would be a little faster).

Probably less if you can hunt down a used 3080 or 3070 rig

    • +1

Desktops will always be cheaper as per the response below. You then will of course have to add your own keyboard, mouse, and monitor if you don't already have them, which brings the price a little bit closer together. For my use case, I am strongly considering a laptop as I don't really have a dedicated area in my house for a gaming specific rig and others in my family will have a need to use the PC for work or school on occasion. There can certainly be better value to be had with the desktop rig but in my case this would be more convenient and ticks more of my boxes.

  • Bought it! thanks for the deal + the student program.

I would like to kindly ask for help for upgrading it:

    1) If I were to upgrade it to have 64 GB ram (2x32) at 5600MT/s what would be the recommended memory banks to buy compatible with it ? (from amazon for example)

    2) If i want a second SSD harddrive, lets say 1TB or more, what should i buy? i read somewhere for older G15 that you need to buy separately bracket and heatsink ??

Thank you for helping a noob!
