Just a FYI - Qatar aircraft departing Sydney are not equipped with Qsuites.

    • No Qsuites but still an excellent product.

      • I wouldnt call their A380 Business Class product excellent. More like Good. Depends if you like privacy ala QSuites or no privacy like their older product out of Sydney. YMMV.

        • +2

Soft product is more important than having a door to me, and Qatars is the best I’ve had by a long way (out of AY, QF, QR, MH, BA & CX).

Q suites are obviously a level above, but herringbone on QR is still great.

    This is good price?

Hoping to get multi stop, flying in/out from 2 different airports, is it normal more than return from same airport?

Problem is getting out of Helsinki to anywhere is expensive.

Used to be $600 in economy return to London (3hr flight) even with low cost such as Norwegian. Good if you are just going to nearby which is basically cheap ferry across to Tallinn or Sweden (long ferry).

Those cheap business class to Paris or Italy is better as there is train network or heavy low cost carrier coverage to go anywhere in Europe.

There’s pretty good redemption availability on Finnair if you have Qantas points. Helsinki is a very easy airport to transit as well.

      • Are you saying you can use QP with Finnair?

        • +2

          Yes you can.

      • +1

Also pretty low taxes when redeeming classic reward flights vs other QF partners/oneworld airlines.

      • Good cheap way to get to Europe in J. Business Class to Helsinki and then use QFF points for the short hop to Paris/Rome/Vienna etc. Business class from Helsinki is Economy seats with the middle seat left empty so hardly worth laying out extra $ or points for more elbow room and a meal.

Can get Ryanair return for under $150 to London. But I don't see how a LCC helps you in cases like this, as you'd need to add luggage and once you do it will cost more than double. That's the problem with intra Europe flights from/to anywhere, having luggage makes it quite expensive, and I'm guessing 95%+ coming from Australia would have checked luggage. Even Paris to London costs $250 or so with a bit of luggage, and if you're flying business to Europe you might be taking advantage of the bigger luggage allowance on those flights but then you're in for even more pain on intra Europe flights. So it often doesn't feel worth it if you're just doing it for positioning.

      • You got the gist. Helsinki is kind of sea locked. If you land in Paris you could take high speed train almost anywhere in mainland Europe.

Well then I was part of the 5% who flew to Europe (business class) last trip with just carry on luggage. Highly recommend. Saved me heaps on inter Europe flights and I didn't have to stress about lost luggage.

      • I'm guessing 95%+ coming from Australia would have checked luggage

I must also be the 5% I've done multiple multi-week trips to US and Europe with carry-on only. If you travel when it's warm, carry-on is all you need.

    • Do a scandi trip and highly recommend that ferry over to Stockholm which is a fantastic city.

Just be prepared for the hotel and food costs whilst there, $25 sandwiches hurt after a week

Or you can eat Falafels and Kababs. About 10 years ago I regularly go to Helsinki CBD and there was a place doing a family size pizza for EUR10

Or a ferry over to Tallinn…great day out

      • +1

You forgot the 2x 20kg. You can fit a lot of cans of stew/beans/spam..

Thanks so much for this OP.

We'd been looking at Europe in this exact time period and considering business class, but this is close to half the price and means we can build a little Finland trip on either side :)

      Finland is a stunning country

Just flew from SIN-LHR via Singapore Airlines and back HEL-Sin Finnair business class. Finnair is above average but SIA was really good (Especially the food choice). Finnair wasn't very clean, i found rubbish in the side drawer and even ear plugs from the previous passenger in the seat crevices.

The seat doesn't recline but u can still lay flat to sleep though. The biggest problem i have with the seats were the side drawer where the headphones are. So annoying to open and access the stuff inside

  • "you said you wanted to go to Helsinki"
    "yeah I know!"

  • +1

Which sites are ticket sold/booked through? They’re reliable?

I see price on Qatar’s own website is few hundred more

  • great price for summer

  • Thanks OP! I've been looking for flights so it's come in handy.

  • Just booked a White Christmas in Finland thanks OP
