I'm doing the trade, picking mine up tomorrow. Doing it purely on basis of size and also the fact that the Pixel 8 pro triple dipping: discounted price off RRP + $400 + $320

  • After a long wait, trade-in deals are back in 2024 on discounted items

  • Pixel phones tend to drop in value significantly and quite quickly cos of all the deals such as this. I paid $400 for a pixel 7 approx. 6 months ago by stacking a similar deal ($699 sale price - $1 Apple Watch Series 1 trade in & $300 bonus credit), they’ve also been available recently for as low as $469 outright from JB-HiFi, so $320 is probably a ‘fair’ price in their eyes.

  • Cost so much more than the bargain phone Motorola G84

    • good luck with software updates and cam quality in Moto.

    • Cost so much more than the bargain phone…

Strange how that works. Good things cost more than crap things.

$250 for Pixel 6 Pro 512gb. They want to charge $200 more for 512gb yet don't want to pay out more for it.

    $1599 new 512gb - $400 - $250 = $950 to upgrade.

Mine has been overheating and is just out of warranty so it would be tempting but it's stiff to not pay out more for 512gb.

    • Are you sure the Pixel 8 Pro not having an overheating issue?

Because I saw some reviews saying It's still overheating and battery drain.

  • Damn doesn't look like the deal is on the 8pro 256gb

I got for $470, the chat person I had was really lovely and lowered the price to $1250 for me, then I got $400 off coupon and $380 trade credit for my old iPhone 11 pro max.

    • what did you say to get the price to $1250?

    • i got this reply- sorry that is the best I can offer today! $1250 is below cost for us so I'm not sure how they'd get that number

      • i mustve just rizzed them up with my impeccable charm 🥵

    • I got $20 off :(

      • how did you get $20 off, the best they can do for me was $1384.

      • what postcode?

      • +1

this must be the 128gb pixel 8 pro

  • $1 for pixel 4 xl. Worth it for the $400 extra I suppose.

  • Trade in phone have to be in working condition?

    • You get $1 if it's not, I traded in a messed up apple watch I had in storage and they accepted it for a $1, also got the coupon

    • You don’t need to send the phone, and they will simply charge you $1 and still keep the bonus $400.

  • $1 for a Pixel 5 :/

  • Google also offering $400 off, with a better trade in price ($250 vs $200 for my Pixel 6 Pro)

    https://store.google.com/

I'm holding out though, will be better deals down the road. Also the JB ID verification process doesnt work for me.

It's Google offering a bonus $400 off the already discounted $400 off? That's the deal here

      • Officeworks has the normal price for Pxiel 8 pro 256gb at $1387.00.
        Not really a discount

    • +1

Lol there's no option to trade in a 7a.

    • +1

Read the deal again- JB is additional $400 off..

  • What if you don't send in your phone?
The $400 coupon still works right?

Don't see anything in the t and cs about fees or cancelling coupons

    • They give you 2 coupons. One for your traded in phone, witch you don't use. And one for the $400 bonus, which you use. Email them after you've made the purchase and say you've changed your mind and cancel the trade in.

      • does this work? wouldn't they revoke the trade in coupons etc

        • No they don’t. If you don’t send the phone, they charge you only the trade in value and you still keep the $400 bonus credit. Did it in past and can confirm.

  • My current Pixel 6 pro software will be supported until 2024 for software and up to 2026 for security.
8 Pro supported until 2030 (software and security).

Basically buying 6 more year software and 4 year of security update for $699 ($1299-(400+200 trade in value)).

    Tempting.

will a new 8 pro survive till 2030 for you?

  • +1

Thanks OP. 8 Pro ready for pickup for local store..

  • Cost to upgrade from P7 to P8 is $179 + you also get a $100 gift card? Does that look right?

    • No because the Extra $400 off it's to use for a purchase of Google Pixel 8 Pro, not the P8.

      • Ah rip

    • Just checked, no $400 coupon for P8.

      • Yeah I'm dumb

  • +2

Bought mine just now thank OP.

OzB tip: The staff can bring the starting price down to $1280, saving a grand total of $19. That's an INIU powerbank lol

    • what postcode?

      • Did mine in the city but in theory any staff should be able to take it down to $1280. Some others commented earlier that they got it to $1250 via live chat.

        • i spoke to 2 different live chats - they keep saying $1384.00. is the best price for pixel 8 pro 256gb

          • +1

@MangoUbe: sorry i got the 128gb. only $19 discount so it's around the same as what you got.

          • @MangoUbe: i went through live chat and got the 8 pro 256gb to $1375. At first offered me $1379, i countered with $1350 and then they went to $1375.

            • @dansus18: Never use live chat before, do you pay online for it to be delivered or..?

  • Have taken the plunge to upgrade from P7P to P8P. Basically am getting back what I paid for the P7P (discounted plus student beans code) in total discount. Cost under $500 (half of which was covered by selling an old laptop no longer being used on marketplace a few days ago) using gift cards for 7 years of updates and improved performance. I'm pretty happy with this deal.

Had some hassle getting my phone IMEI accepted for the trade in until I realised my work laptop operates thru a VPN.

  • Have an old iPhone X which had its screen replaced. The screen is generic and has no TrueTone. Would this be a problem for trade-in? Any experience shared will be appreciated.

    • +1

The T&Cs say phone has to be original parts and in the condition described so potentially yes. They can cancel the trade in (charging your card) and send the device back if it doesn't meet their requirements.

I want to add a word of caution around the $400 voucher. Because it works as a coupon, in practice if you wanted to refund the phone you would only get the price of what you PAID, not the actual sale price of the phone. I got the P7 with a similar coupon deal and sort of feel a bit trapped because of this.

    • Well yeah that’s totally fair on the business to do. How do you feel trapped when you get the EXACT same amount you paid for the phone back if you refunded the phone? Seems like you want an extra $400 back (after refunding the phone) which is pretty scummy

  • Anyone know if you can trade in phones not listed there? I have an old pixel 3 I would be happy to see go for $1 if they will take it.

    • If you go to the trade in page it will either be an option or not.

      • Guess its not an option.

  • Thanks for the post. I can confirmed it works with any phones with value of $1 or more. Does not have to be Pixel phones.

I have just traded in my old Iphone 6 for $1 and got the $400 coupon straight away. I also switched my numbers to Telstra $99/m phone plan and got $1100 gift card. In the end I got a Pixel 8 pro 128Gb + $201 gift card - $99 1st month out of pocket. Cancellation fee will be $800.

    So I paid: $800 + $99 - $201 = $698 + Iphone 6 = Pixel 8 pro 128Gb

    • That's a lot of effort!

      • It's less than an hour and I saved $200 during my lunch break :) (compared to people buy it without phone plan)

    • Did you get 2 voucher codes with value of $1 and $400?

      • +1

Yeah but wasn't bothered to use $1 coupon

        • just double checking - the result will just be $1 charged on your credit card correct?

  • What is the pixel 8 pro price on the tax invoice for trs purposes ?

    • Would show as $899, or $880 if you managed to get the initial price to $1280. So no need for your name on it.

      • woudl it show 899 even if trading in say 350 worth for phone?

        e.g 1299-400 then -350
but tax invoice still shows 899?

        • no idea but my guess is when they scan a discount coupon it would subtract the value so the tax invoice would show the fully discounted amount after coupon is applied

  • You can probably get the extra $400 eVoucher and only use that and then cancel your trade in. You won't be charged anything. Did this a year ago.

    • Or I assume if you just sold the phone yourself you would just get charged the trade in value while making more by selling yourself. Although they take the IMEI number so would they try and get the trade in phone blocked?

  • JB HI FI trade up verification keeps getting rejected. Tried drivers licence and passport. WTF is wrong with their shit, I just want to bloody buy a phone mate

  • +1

Was able to get JB live chat down to $1250 by posting this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/836207 and asking for their 'best price'.

    • thanks, will try this now

      • +1

Yea I got that too, the person on the live chat was really kind and said that they could do $1249 which is awesome

        • did you still do the trade in?

  • +1

Traded in a broken ipad mini 4 with faulty display for $20, still qualified for the $400.

Pretty good considering it was going into the recycling bin.

  • So do you keep trade in discount of $400 if you don't send back the device?

    • Yes

    • Yes. Can confirm that.

      • So they don't do anything like blocking the IMEI? Just charge the trade in cost to your card?

Considering selling my P7P privately and just copping the $380 on my card.

        • +1

Yes. Thats correct. They will simply charge the trade-in value to your card if you don’t send the phone to them.

        • I'm thinking the exact same thing except for my P7 and $320 trade in value. I've already used the $320 + $400 coupon when i bought the pixel 8 pro. You reckon not sending in the p7 is only going to result in the $320 charged on the card I gave them?

  • saw this deal yesterday, wanted to get it today and noticed the phone went back up in price $1299->$1699. Am I right? Please correct me.

    • Yes the price went back up to 1699 today.

      • did they say that yesterday? If I read that I would have got it yesterday

        • Looks like the Google store is still selling the 128gb model at $1299 so you can probably try price matching

          • @tripdubz: price matching and trade in at the same time and still get the the $400 bonus voucher? you reckon they'll do that?
It's a lot of extra work now too.

            • @martialmonk77: Yes it should work. You price match with the sales staff, and you'll get a paper slip to take to the checkout staff. You scan your $400 coupon there.

              • @tripdubz: so I have to go in in person? was hoping to do a live chat price match

                • @martialmonk77: Oh it should be easier online. Just ask live chat for a price match. When you get the link for $1299 for the pixel 8 pro 128gb, you should be able to add your $400 coupon and get the $899 price tag.

    • Yeah, I'm in the same position. Very disappointing!

      • price match with google store - $1399 - a bit more than yesterday

        • it says $1299 for google store but I don't know if they'll do the price match and trade in with $400 bonus voucher all at the same time - you reckon they will?

          • @martialmonk77: yes they will. - $1399 is for 256gb. - better do it quick, before google increases the price too.

            • @MangoUbe: okay, let's find out

            • +1

@MangoUbe: Just did that, price matched the 256GB version at $1399, used the voucher and completed checkout for $999. Didn't use the $1 voucher, as I am not planning to actually trade the old phone in.

  • going to try price matching now via live chat to see if they'll price match to google store prices ($1299 for 128GB, $1399 for 256GB) and then use the $400 bonus voucher from trade in.
