Maybe if they pay me $49 per month, i might think about it

    • +25

Yeah we were paying $108 per month for the full package and IQ years ago. We called up and cancelled as it was same crap every few months. I kid you not, got a call about a week later and was offered same package for $45 per month plus no lock in. I jokingly said “now I’m ripping you guys off”, he said sternly “mate, we still make money off that package”, hung up and never looked back, criminals.

      • +16

Yep, plenty of those stories across forums online. I can only imagine how much money they have made off the elderly, less tech savvy consumers.

      • +13

It's a good anecdotal example of the extend the top end of town are ripping us off. They aren't struggling to survive on 10% margins. There are 100% to 1000% markups on everything. Inflation is caused primarily by capitalists increasing their markup. But of course the government will never blame them. Australia is a one party state with 3 right wings; all the parties represent kapital. "Everything inside capital; nothing outside capital; nothing against capital".

        • -1

Correct, along with media mind control convincing the masses they are getting a good deal and that trickle down exists. Inflation? Just put the costs of people's loans up until they break and then the corporates might be forced to throw a few crumbs.

        • +14

Haha you've gotta be delusional to believe Australia "has 3 right wing parties"…. Mate, get a grip! Our "right wing party", the liberals are still wayyyy more left leaning than the American democrats (their LEFT leaning party)… Australia is lefty af in the eyes of everyone but the most hardcore Marxist.

          • +3

@Binchicken22: Do we have lefts and rights??? I feel its just the gimme gimme gimmie's. They all look after themselves, set up deals with externals and once out, join those groups. There use to be a time when Government had long term goals for this country, now they just care about their 3 years before the next election. This country has gone so far down the sh*tter, its not funny. Everyone laughed at how Greece went south, lets see Australia in 5 - 10 years time, i think Greece will be a holiday camp compared to where we will be.

        • Well. Aussies dont complain when their house prices go up astronomically

          • +1

@U30004: That's the fault of investors though so should tax them more on land, make them pay higher interest rates and hit them with countless expensive compliance checks you don't even do on your own home. Then you wonder why we have a rental crisis?

Bunch of absolute Muppets running this place… I don't understand how anyone thinks Dan did a good job

            • +1

@4foxache: Govt is the reflection of general public. People voted for them afterall

              • +1

@U30004: Yes but you have to vote for the Lesser Evil

                • @ThePunchingBag: The house prices will fall. Thats not acceptable in this country

              • -1

@U30004: Yeah, and the majority of people vote Labor, because Labor love to hand out free money. Majority of this country have their hand out, whilst small businesses go under, sending Australia to a world of hurt

                • @BatmanAU: What you talking about. Australia is immune to recession and have guaranteed real estate boom

                  • @U30004: Yeah by opening the flood gates to immigration, ever heard of a housing crisis?

                • -1

@BatmanAU: I really dont see why small to medium businesses need to be given such a hard time

Cut the taxes and let business have a shot, head to any small town now a days, only government funded stuff still exists because theyve made it that hard to run a business its a dying art

Govt have their heads in the arses

              • @U30004: No, most of us probably didnt vote for them, but the system is screwed so they still end up in power anyway

            • +2

@4foxache: It has bugger all to do with investors, it is supply constraint. The constant influx of immigrants is outpacing the construction industry, hence prices continue to go up.

              • -1

@gromit: Thats just a myth. Migrants arent living on streets.

                • +3

@U30004: Myth? the numbers don't lie. The vacancy rate has plummeted to all time lows and more and more are in share houses. We build around 250k a year, current immigration is between 300k-400k. The 250k number is also a record high and last year immigration hit net 550k

          • @U30004: Ones that are buying do your comment seems quite redundant.

          • @U30004: Fewer and fewer people getting enjoyment out of this I feel.

          • @U30004: Actually, sure its great for capital growth when you want to downsize, but increased values just mean increased rates and insurance, and then the flow on of the stamp duty gouge which surely needs to be cut at some point to make those that want to sell and buy something smaller a more attractive prospect

I cant see how this government is doing a single bit of self preservation thats going to get them close to keeping their seats

We really need a tax structure and government reset to allow the country to flourish and grow, not just import as many people in an unplanned fashion and leave all the existing triple dipping gouge arrangements in place, do they not see its a blood bath out here in the middle class?

Sorry, yes, i am developing an intesnse hatred for the government as i get older

            • @billdsl: Stamp duty cut will just translate into higher asking price. Keep the circus going

              • @U30004: What? Are you by chance a jaded renter? There’s zero correlation between asking price or stamp duty. People aren’t down sizing or changing properties, one reason is the govt takes another gouge when you sell. If they cut that more houses would move hands thus increasing access for others to buy

That’s my view on it anyway

                • @billdsl: Any govt intervention to "help" the buyers just ends up increasing house prices. People are desperate to upsize as they fear missing out. FOMO is real

        • +3

Inflation is caused primarily by capitalists increasing their markup

Lol, what is supply and demand…

When people laugh at leftists for having no idea about basic economics, this is why.

If you hate 'cApItAlIsM' so much, why are you on a a website who's primary function is to celebrate and benefit from it?

          • @1st-Amendment: Market power is reflected in concentrated industries that lack true competition.

      • Sounds like my gym when they put my price up and wouldn’t budge. I cancelled and they emailed me a month later offering me less than my previous rate I was paying.

    • I think this will be a long running deal. They are being cannabalised by their own Binge and Hubbl streaming products which are far, far cheaper than their sister Foxtel IQ product.

  • +34

    Yes, I know, Murdoch

Thanks for saving me 588 bucks

  • +2

    4k?

    I'm guessing no…

    • +5

Pretty sure it isn't even 1080p

      • +1

That's Foxtel satellite, not Foxtel Now (streaming) which isn't in 4K.
        I can't believe Foxtel Now still isn't streaming in 4K in 2024.

        • Funnily enough they've bought 4k streaming to some kayo streams this year. Been watching F1 and the AFL both in 4k at times. Not everything but at least some select live streams

          • +3

@4foxache: Yeah that's odd, I would have thought the Foxtel branded products should be their "premium" brand, it sure is from a price point.

            • -1

@SimAus007: 1080p is not guaranteed on HD channels on Foxtel.

I think it used to be compressed 720p on most HD channels on the first one or two IQs.

I'm not sure about now, but I think you still have to pay $10 extra for HD, on top of your packages, whether it's 4K or 720p.

BTW a lot of the channels in OP's description/list are no longer on Foxtel (so double check if you're considering buying for specific channels, and be prepared for Foxtel to remove/change/merge/reorganise more channels during the 12 month contract).

P.S. I have owned Foxtel for most of the time it has been available, but probably not for much longer (I have thousands of channels in my IPTV subscription for a fraction of the price) I just use it mainly for "rewinding" a few programs I might have missed when they started.

TBH I have recordings on my IQ which I don't want to lose, otherwise I'd have gotten rid of this dinosaur I no longer really use.

              • @BooYa: You are referring to Foxtel satellite, not Foxtel Now, just to clarify :)
Foxtel Now is the streaming only service, which is what this deal is for.

  • +16

No 4k… so sad in 2024

  • +2

I thought Foxtel dropped Bein last year?

    • Yeah, something awry there

    • I'm not subscribed, so can't confirm the accuracy of the info on their website.

    • +1

Correct. Foxtel no longer carries the beIn Sports channels.

    • Yup no BeIn sports now - used to watch for tennis but no longer available (PSA - you can subscribe now to BeIn via amazon prime as a paid add on channel)

      • Yes bein is now around $14 a month, they had a deal in June last year were I paid $119 for 12 month, in my case to watch the bundesliga which is a steal, seeing how much friends pay at home (Germany) to. Be able to watch games on each day

      • I subscribed to beIN on Google Play using rewards balance

    • +1

Ridiculous that they'd still list on their wesbite ..

  • The Foxtel website doesn't work when using Private Relay, they must be losing a lot of customers because of this.

    • You think a lot of Hoaxtel customers use Private Relay? They're ancient mate.

    • -8

      Based, neckbeards downvoting though.

  • no sci fi either

  • +2

Just sign up for Kayo and binge… get 4K

    • +3

Not a lot of 4k content on Kayo

    • They are combined more expensive and have less content than Foxtel Now

      • Foxtel now doesn’t have 4K

        • Kayo barely has 4k, and both Binge and Kayo charge more to get 4k content, they are all blatant rip offs but if you are going to choose this deal has better value

  • +20

Never. Foxtel can eat a bag of dicks.

    • -4

Yep! We'll just sign up for Netflix 4k (everyone seems so disappointed this doesn't have 4k, so we must inc 4k of course) $23pm, stan $21pm, Disney + $18pm, paramount + $14pm & kayo $29pm, for a total of $105pm! Screw Foxtel and their shitty $49 deal hey!

      • +8

If Foxtel with all packages was, even remotely, comparable to Netflix, Stan, Disney+, Paramount+, and Kayo combined, I would be inclined to like your comment… ;)

      • +3

This is like getting mad at people not wanting to buy a Toyota because it is too expensive then suggesting that buying a Ferrari is also expensive.

      • No comparison content wise and additionally, I'd be surprised if the majority of people subscribe to all of these services at once. I usually only have one or two services active at the same time, once I've seen what I subscribed for I cancel that subscription and start another one.
That's the beauty of all these options now, you can cherry pick the best streaming service for that month.

      • for a total of $105pm

Ouch. Wait until you find out about Stremio and Real Debrid for everything but live sports. It will be under $50 per year.

        • +2

Piracy is not a valid comparison.

    • -1

      Support the zionists?

    • -2

Yes, Murdoch support these zionist terrorists

    • +4

Does everything have to come back to Zionists? FFS

      • +1

        I know, right!

  • +36

SBS On Demand, 7plus, 9now, ABC iview, TenPlay, Tubi, YouTube = $0 per month.

Kayo if you really need sport. Prime Video if you're already a Prime member.

    👍

    • +1

      Bravo

    • +6

I have Pakistani YouTube Premium, so happy with $2.50 per month for all of those.

      • India - $2.34 (129 rupee) you getting ripped off bro

        • I think I struggled with India from memory. Did they require an Indian credit card or something?

          • +1

@kiriakoz: Not sure before, but i use my CBA ultimate and wise card can be used. i just stuck in an indian address and postcode and it works fine..

    • +4

I was also amazed how many great movie sbs picks up, plex au free i do really like too

But anything still missing that 99% cashback vpn gets lotsa free usa tubi plex ruku teevee (prime free edition)

    • +16

Real Debrid + Stremio for $4 a month

      • +2

recent convert - never going back - its amazing!

        • +1

Yes same, the interface is a little simplistic but it gets the job done. Real Debrid + Streamio is amazing.

And if you really want everything, then could also get an IPTV service and get all of foxtel, kayo, Dazn, UFC, NBA, NFL, Bein soccer/football plus overseas tv channels for roughly around $100/yr depending on the service. IPTV service often have their own TV/Movie sections to stream content, but I think Real Debrid servers are the best option. IPTV is a little more sketchy to get and setup.

      • Is the stream as good as Netflix or Prime or the others? 4k Dolby Atmos .. if it was everyone would use real debrid I reckon . No one wants to change sources and fiddle around to watch a movie or series.. Kodi is free and the add ons have everything.. So is it as good as having a subscription ? If it is better than Kodi but not like the real deal then its not as good

      • @DINGUSS As an Old Dude I'm unfamiliar with these but will have to look into it… Thank you

    • -1

      What about movies?

  • +5

Wow thanks for this, I need to get my Nan off her Foxtel plan and onto Netflix these prices are straight up scams.

    • +4

I mean, Netflix is hardly a replacement to Foxtel.

I don’t have, nor do I want Foxtel as I source my content elsewhere, but Netflix doesn’t have the same content as Foxtel.

      • +1

She mainly uses it for the movie channels however I'll ask what other content she watches and see if there's any alternatives for her. Might need to setup a media server that I can control from home for her.

        • Try Binge

          • @Wolfenstein98k: I am definitely in the camp of anything but foxtel, but Binge? They aren't even competent enough to make a decent app, one of the few that can make Amazon Prime app look well designed.

        • +3

My old man doesn't know what he wants to watch, just relies on foxtel whatever's on the movie channel playing.

Which starts to make a lot of sense why he keeps paying for foxtel, just something he's used to

      • Any streaming service can be a replacement for Foxtel, depending on the content you like to watch. Plenty of people used to have Foxtel purely for movies, there are plenty of better options for those people.
I have no interest in AFL or NRL, so Foxtel is easily replaceable for me.

    • -3

Unless your nan is struggling financially, then just leave her be… She probably enjoys what she has and no doubt will struggle with whatever dodgy media server setup you try and setup for her.

This is coming from someone who runs an 18TB Plex server.

      • +3

Fam, the user above suggested Netflix, not some self-managed media server that's laden with filetype and device playback errors that you consistently have to be IT support for. In my experience, Netflix "just works" with ye oldies. Plex, wildly different story.
