  • Does anyone know if the battery can be replaced easily on these?

    • +8
    • +9

Several screws on the bottom casing and the cover pops right off giving access to remove the battery (and replace other parts like RAM / SSD), no special tools needed and takes a few minutes. The battery model is BL04XL which can be purchased on various AU Ebay stores for approx $70.

    • +1

How much is new battery though

    • +6

Yes it can. I bought one of these from Harris Tech late last year for about $380. Really great device, however it died when I tried to switch to tablet mode one night. HT are an absolute nightmare to deal with, I'm at the point where I'm threatening legal action to get a refund (came with a 1yr warranty). That aside, the HP G6 was a good device, but you may need to get some additional drivers to make the brightness & volume buttons work in Win11.

  • Perfect for 1337 Krew.

    • -2

Especially for all the Malware they install ;P

  • +1

Check all the USB ports, SD card and other ports as soon as it arrives

    • +1

If sd not working too to bios maybe disable

  • is that the one with built in privacy filter on the panel? it is horrible.

    • What makes it horrible? (As I don't know these laptops at all)

      • +5

Some of these models included a feature called "SureView", which made the screen incredibly difficult to view unless you're sitting directly in front of the device. The aim is to prevent visual hacking (people peaking at your screen while you're using it on public transport, for example).

The issue is the display panel that enables this feature isn't the greatest to work with. It drains battery life and viewing angles are horrible, even with the feature turned off. I'd avoid it, where possible. It doesn't look like this model includes SureView.

  • Refurbished, so with a brand new battery?

    Or only "refurbished"?

    • +1

Refurb device, battery will be original, should be 70-90%. I got a "B grade" (it's flawless) Latitude 7400 2-in-1 from these guys recently and it still had >70% battery.

      • +2

The listing for the crapper condition unit states:
The device may have BIOS Lock or have under 80% original battery. Products may have a faulty USB Port or ethernet port (laptop only). This does not affect the usability🤣

There is no mention of battery etc on the"better" unit

Edit: flickits link says minimum 80% is that's standard conditions. Someone ought to tell ACT that because clearly that's not what is in one of their listings

  • What is the battery health?

    • +2

They're listed as refurbished so they're claiming 80+%, if it's less than that just send it back for a refund…
      https://pages.ebay.com.au/refurbished-program/#refurbished

The last lappy I purchased from them was was claimed to be over 80%, it had a totally stuffed battery, 50%, so check as soon as you get it, it seems they don't really refurb what they sell…

  • +1

1yr warranty too. I have nothing but good things to say about ACT, they are excellent.

    • +1

Same, last time my keyboard fabric was peeling. They sent me a new one.

    • +2

You must be lucky, I've purchased from them 4 times and had 4 issues, lol, never again..

      • I've done a return with them too & it was super easy and actioned quickly.

    • +1

I got one of these from ACT in a previous sale. Was meant to be A grade. Had 20% battery health sent it straight back for refund. Also later purchased a refurbed Dell laptop which was fine. Bit of a pig in a poke with these guys, don't think there is much QC.

  • +1

This seller review was a rollercoaster

r***h (162)- Feedback left by buyer.
    Past year
    Verified purchase
item arrived in fantastic condition (despite dirty keyboard and coffee stained) and well packaged.

  • Thanks OP , Just grabbed one as well ! Great specs for the price . From what I am reading, all the Elitebook series have premium backlit keyboard, It's a must for me for any notebook.

    • +2

Can confirm the keyboard & overall build quality is top notch, it's all aluminium with (Harmon Kardon?) speakers, not super loud but good fidelity.

      • +1

Bang & Olufsen speakers actually (or at least tuned by Bang & Olufsen).

        • Ahh cheers, knew it was an upscale brand.

  • i7-8665U is a potential problem. It tends to overheat in slim laptops and perform worst than the i5-8xxx series due to throttling. I am not sure if it affects this specific model.

  • Used this model in my previous job and highly recommend it. The all-metal feels durable and premium.

  • Anyone know if there is an Easy way to check battery health quickly on these notebooks ?

  • I waited for this all day and missed the post after chores nooo

    • +2

There are more on the way, check back later.

    • +2

We have about 1000 units, will try and have them all online before promo runs out.

      • Hoping you can get more out so I and many others can get them!

    • +1

      Back in stock now

  • +4

Be aware that the hinges can break behind the screen pushing the screen apart.
Pretty much impossible to fix without breaking the LCD.

The hinge itself doesn't break but the mount behind the LCD cracks.

    • +1

Very common. Enough so I would avoid these, unless you are very gentle on it, even then may still happen.

    • is this an issue with all elitebooks including more recent models like G8 and above?

  • Thanks picked one up last night. Current laptop I bought refurbished in 2018 and its had fanta spilled on it + new keyboard and ssd lol

  • What kind of battery life will i get out of one of these?

  • +2

    Back in stock

    • thanks for the update. Bought for son's school. Surely this will be sufficient as long as the battery lasts a few hours of light use.

  • -1

The lowest price you'll get without going to ebay bids or gumtree (wear a stab proof shirt)

  • Just bought this. Dumb question that I couldn't find on Google. What is a External Nano SIM slot for WWAN? Does it allow me to stick a SIM in and get LTE?

    • Good question, , Just from a short search I was able to verify that it does actually have a Sim card slot on the left side of the laptop. This is an awesome inclusion and if it works well does away with the big ugly USB and extra wifi dongles.

      • Physical slot for sim exists but doubt it has the WWAN module. Says in listing cables not included.

        • Current batch has LTE

  • make sure it is not BIOS locked or check if it is still domain locked - errors do happen.

  • Can somebody please advise, which one is a better choice, this HP or the Dell 7400 here:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/839188
The A grade 7400 are sold out, not sure if that means it's a better choice than this HP X360?

    • Apple vs orange comparison mate. This has a touchscreen (and brighter), double the RAM and is a i7. Also there were less than 100 units of the Dell for sale vs 500 of the HP

  • Anyone know of any good deals for Storage upgrade as 256gb may not be sufficient for me .
I was looking at this ,
    Limited-time deal: Fikwot FN955 2TB SSD M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe 1.4 Internal Solid State Drive - Speeds up to 7350MB/s, Configure SLC Cache,Compatible with Laptop/Desktop/Ps5 https://amzn.asia/d/16mQ6KO

Anyone have any idea what these are Iike ? Anyone recommend it ? Or any other suggestions?

    • You can also use the SD card slot for additional storage.

  • +2

Seems the model I got has the terrible sureview privacy screen…and to give you an idea of how it is its like looking at an old tn panel

    • Would this be justification enough to return?

    • Mine too. It's really terrible

  • Does anyone know if this is Windows 11 Professional?

  • Why is this so heavy? (ctrl+f tags: weight kg light 1.35 kg 1.35kg 1kg)

Is it just the 13 Wh difference? Is it it's age? Touchscreen,Bendy-ness?

Work bought me the HP Pavilion Aero 13 R5-7535U and I quite like it (worst feature is low capacity 43Wh 3-cell battery, and the same horrid arrow key layout)\

    Edit:
OK yeah it's slightly bigger and has a significant battery bump, and presumably the fans/vents a touch bigger.

    What I'm looking for:
Small form factor, relatively low weight, but good battery laptop on Linux. For light gaming/high graphical workloads I think AMD from 2019-21 (refurbished era) probably wins out on Linux, but then thunderbolt / I/O may not have been as good?

Might be hard to beat this, but I have noticed generally linux laptops run higher thermals than Windows, and there are some comments about heat on here

  • Anyone else find there is some "give" in the hinge for the screen? ie the hinge makes the screen move back and forth a bit? I don't know if this is considered to be normal or not

    • The one i have does it as well. Unsure if its normal. Its not there on a x360 1030 I had from work though

    • Isn't this the hinge issue reported by some.

  • Got mine today. Very impressed with it thank you. Clean and shiny

  • I got mine today but not I expected, many scratches underneath and fade / discolored in the top cover, no reply yet from the eBay store

    • That’s exactly the same issue with mine as well. It’s definitely not ‘very good’ condition!!

    • Mine came with a missing sim tray, usb ports dusty, deep scratches in the back panel, will try to request for a replacement. definately not the quality expected

      • My speakers also crackles really badly when playing anything (system sound, YouTube etc)

  • I am looking to upgrade the storage up to poss 2tb. Anyone Know if there is any benefit in going to a PCIE 4 nVme M.2 as the current 256gb SSD s a PCIe Gen 3 nvme.
Also would appreciate if anyone has any ideas as to best option in choosing one. I won't be doing any gaming or doing anything too intensive but a little video and photo editing and would likely be doing a lot of large file transfers.

  • My advice if any of these come up again, is to avoid it. Not because of the seller or the condition (although with the scratches and marks on the case I wouldn't classify it as 'A' condition) but the screen is simply terrible. The privacy screen is really bad, if I had known what it is like I wouldn't have bought it.

    • It sounds like everyone is getting the Sure View model, has anyone gotten one without?

  • +1

I got mine 2 days ago. Seems like the problems are consistent with the comments here.

    1. The god-awful screen with horrible viewing angles unless you sit with a neck brace directly in front of it. Horrible.
    2. The back and bottom are scratched up.
    3. Sim tray is missing.
    4. Gets uncomfortably hot on normal usage/browsing etc.
    5. The hinges have a significant "give" to them, like mentioned in the comments already.

    Definitely returning this.

    • how do we go about returning them?

    • Baffles me how they could classify these as ‘very good’ when it clearly isn’t. Doesn’t even comply with eBay’s refurb policy definition of ‘very good’ condition.

  • +2

I feel for anyone who got a banged up unit , Hope you get it swapped with a better one. On the other hand really happy with mine. I really don't mind the screen , Yes it would have been better to have a non Privacy screen but , I am really not fussed , I found the screen images clear and sharp enough for a $340 notebook with so many features and an awesome form factor . After all the privacy screen does what it's supposed to pretty well. The inbuilt LTE slot is awesome. The backlit keyboard , the B&O speakers and the lightweight aluminium finish is top notch as someone mentioned .
The only thing is that the charger on my refuses to work ..I have emailed them about this . but currently using a gan charger which works perfectly fine . So all in all for what I paid I am pretty happy.
Btw , My battery health was at 84% . After about 1 hour of use and seems to have improved with more use . It's currently at 86% with 211 cycles.
Would be interesting to see some other figures of other machines .

    • +2

      Mine is 71%, 395 cycles.

      • +2

mine in almost new condition with 93% battery health and 74 charge cycles.

        • The owner of that one obviously wasn't a hard worker 🤣🤣 bit of a Bludger .

        • +2

got one with 93% and 135 cycles

    • 88.9% 181 cycles
All ports working though haven't check the Sim slot yet

  • +1

    Got mine late last week
    - 89%, 329 cycles
    - Hinge has a lot of give like others report
    - Screen is the sureview type
    - Hardly any scratches and all ports seem to be working

Overall though and the very limited usage case I have for it - am happy with it

One issue I did have though was possibly related to the the sheer number of windows updates and feature updates - when like 90% of them were installed and there were only a few left, laptop started acting funny - i.e. would crash back to BIOS on its own, shortly after starting up. Various repair and diagnostic option I'm offered when restarting all fail (startup repair, automatic repair, no restore points, rollback updates). I left it a over the weekend to try again today and same things were occurring.

Finally got back into Windows before lunch and installed the last few updates and it has been stable since then - so trying to keep it on and doing random things with it to see how stable it is now - hopefully all good at this point and thus no need to return.

    • Unfortunately looks like its still not stable - I thought it was with some basic office tasks, but tried stress testing it a little (barely - just running Spotify and a Youtube video) and it crashed again after 5 mins.

Going to have to raise a return I think which is unfortunate.

  • Got mine today
84% battery life with 360 cycles
    No issues with hinge
Sure View screen, has some dead pixels on the right side
Good external quality, ports are working.

    Reasonably happy with it.

    • It's hard to explain how bad the screen is. It's too bright and too dark at the same time. Definitely painful on the eyes when using it in the dark, but butter using it in a lit environment.

  • Got mine last week and reasonably happy with it.
Don't have an issue with the privacy screen - turned that off and it's fine for me.
91% battery life with 350 cycles.
Only negatives are the excess play in the hinge and a small dent in the aluminum under the screen like it's been closed with something stuck between the body and the screen.

  • Why would one buy this over a Lenovo T490s listed here for almost $30 less? I ordered two T490s laptops and they were in almost perfect condition and the battery was over 85% and only 20+ cycles.

    • +3

i7 vs i5, Wifi AX vs AC, 1yr warranty vs 3mths. Condition of used laptop is luck of draw. I bought 2, one with hardly any scratches and battery at 98% (55 cycles), the other with a tiny ding on chassis below keyboard, quite a few light scratches on the bottom, battery at 87% (267 cycles!). I would say both deals (i.e. the HP and Lenovo) are worth their price tag so its down to buyer's preference.

      • Agreed , also I think the build quality and esthetics of the HP is much better than of the Lenovo .

        • other than the annoying play in the hinge! (both of mine have them!)

        • @bazzazz I agree that the aesthetics of this laptop is better than the Lenovo but I will not applaud the build quality given the hinge issue. The hinge issue kept me away from buying it.

      • Thanks @bfg100k.

  • I dropped the laptop off at a Hubbed Return Centre last week but still hasn't moved at all. Feel anxious sending something so expensive back, but definitely not useable long term… Has anyone had progress with their return yet?
