thx guys really helpful, since new wii has FHD probably gona get it now have to decide premium or basic

    • +2

The only thing to look out for with the old remotes is that some games such as Nintendo Land require all 4 remotes to have motion plus.

Great price. Still can't decide if I want to buy a Wii U or not.. Worried that it is just going to turn into the Wii all over again. Good initial games but then no long term software support and poor quality ports. Also worried that it is going to get left behind as soon as the new consoles come out next yearish. I love my Nintendo franchises but my Wii has sat here unused for a long time now. Most likely I will get one but I can definitely see this turning into a repeat of the Wii, I hope not though.

New games utilising the new gamepad is the only selling point/only thing going for it; graphics….meh will easily get trumped by PS4 & NexBox.

      • +1

Yep very true. However I do love the classic Nintendo franchises. Just the Wii couldn't survive on those alone and neither will this. So it all depends on how much 3rd party support it ends up getting and how good the ports are.

Neither Wii nor Wii U launched with good initial games. Unless you have a completely different definition of 'good'.

In a few years, I totally see happen to it the same thing that happened to the Wii after its first 3 years or so. People lost interest in it.

Most people I know with a Wii (myself included) have it sitting in a cupboard somewhere not being used. After a few years this will likely be the same.

      • Wii U launched with New Super Mario Wii U. The original Wii didn't launch with any Mario game. Anyway, it's pretty normal to tire of a console after 2-3 years. I remember with N64 I got it in Dec 1996 and by 1999 it was pretty much collecting dust - that's less than 3 years.

New Super Mario is just a retread. It was on DS, then Wii, then 3DS. Now Wii U. Basically the same game still. It's not doing anything you haven't seen before.

Anyway, it's pretty normal to tire of a console after 2-3 years.

Nah. The 360 and PS3 are still going strong after 6 years. That's because the target demographic aren't the kind who lose interest that quickly. The Wii was aimed at a wider audience, and a large proportion of its success was down to casual gamers that it appealed to. But these guys aren't the people buying a dozen games every year or playing many hours a day. They enjoy it a lot at parties or when people are over, but in the meantime it doesn't get played much, and when it does the novelty wears off quickly.

What remains to be seen is how powerful the PS4 and 720 are. If they are far ahead of Wii U, then I expect the Wii U to get dropped by the hardcore and developers when they can no longer make Wii U ports that are comparable in quality to the other platforms. I don't consider the Wii U a 'next gen' console based on the footage I've seen of it as far as graphics are concerned.

N64 was not a good example to use. Like other Nintendo systems after it, it was lacking in quality third party games. Nintendo pretty much carries their consoles on their own. The best games on Nintendo consoles are Nintendo's own games. Wii U is going to be no different. But that's too much of a burden to carry for Nintendo alone.

Yeh I remember those initial wii launch games. Zelda:twilight princess was just terrible wasn't it….

        • -1

A port of a gamecube game.

If it didn't launch exclusively on Wii for a month, I wonder how well that version would have sold.

And what else did it come with?

  • To the OP: Have spoken to kmart stores in victoria. They dont have news on these lower prices nor will they take preorders. Where are you getting your info from?

    • +4

I work in a store in South Australia, I've now linked the catalogue so you can see the lower price.

In regards to pre-orders, each store was sent a communication at the end of October informing them that Call of Duty which was released a few weeks ago and the Wii U were pre-orderable.

I know its possible because I have pre-ordered mine, the pre-order APN for the premium pack is 9300800761677, which at the service desk you purchase and pay the deposit amount, they then refund it onto an evoucher which you can use to pay for the WiiU when it arrives.

  • So has anyone placed preorders yet?

    Hi All,

I just put a pre-order in at Southland (Vic). It looks like most people havent been trained at the stores in this procedure, as it took about 30 mins to work.

They will take your preorder, and you will "buy" a voucher for $40. When you pick up your Wii U, you can present this voucher to get the console (held behind the service desk), and then use that $40 to as a gift voucher to put towards the retail price.

I can confirm the prices are correct as posted, i just preordered a $299 Basic Set.

    This is a fantastic deal!

I had a similar experience. They don't seem to know what's going on, so it took a while. They didn't mention anything about holding a console for me though, so it's a little concerning. Guess I'll just have to wait and see…

      • +2

According to the instore communication, for however many were pre-ordered they will come into the store marked as pre-order and put aside for 2 weeks.

  • My post might get lost on the previous page.

Here is the online link to the catalogue:

    http://www.kmart.com.au/Catalogue/Catalogue.aspx?CatalogueID…

  • Thanks for the info guys.

  • do you think myer can match this? kmart is part of the group, i can pay using credit card points at myer…

    • Almost all (if not all) Myers don't have gaming sections anymore.

      • And Coles Myer hasn't existed for a long time either.

  • Can you preorder with a game? (like Zombie U :D )

    • +1

Unfortunately you can only pre-order the consoles by themselves.

  • Oh and will these be able to be picked up on the 30th Nov?

  • +2

JB Hifi has just dropped their prices aswell. The premium pack was $428 but its now $399.. $20 more than Kmart but you get a starter pack which includes 2 screen protectors and silicon cover for the game pad.

    • Speaking of other stores. My BigW order has had the silicon glove shipped from it. I wonder if they are doing that to lock the orders.

      • +2

I just came back from JB Chaddy! They will price match from Kmart. The $399 offer is only for first 4 days of launch and includes paying only $40 for a selection of Wii U games (instead of the $59 or $69 full price). If you price match for Kmart it will not include that game offer they said (so I guess price match if you don't want any of those games).

        • But they're bad games.

If you want AC3, Batman, Zombie U, BLOPS 2, etc, you'll be paying more than $40.

        • What an ironic post. ;)

  • +2

First post!! Just registered so can not make any topics but thought I would post here. Target have both sku's for retail price but you do get just dance 4 for free for anyone interested in this game it's a good deal. For most probably not. I have also read that if you buy from jbhifi you have a choice 10 different games for $40 each. These do not include mario, zombie, ac3 or blops2. Tekken and mass effect as well as less popular games are included. I can get a full list if anyone is interested. Also pre ordered at jb and they said they WILL match kmarts price in launch

  • Sorry for double post but found pics credit goes to the site

  • I went to Kmart 24hour Campbellfield last night to pre-order. The people had no clue how… said thy didn't have a code for the unit so couldnt pre-order and that i should just come back when its released.

They couldn't even find the product in the catalogue.

    … idiots.

  • saw the unit in my local catalogue.

    should i?

  • Even though the catalogue is now out and there is one day to go, does anyone think/know if they would still do a preorder?

  • This lines up with my centrelink payment nicely. Shame I can't justify the expense to my wife when I don't have a job… lol.

  • Does another know whether kmart will have a double staff discount leading up to Christmas as in previous years.

  • Just got my Big W Black Wii U in the mail.

Problem is i cancelled my preorder and got a refund last week.

    • Now thats what I call a Oz Bargain!!!

    • I should say BigW online ware house is useless and dont have a clue whats going on, I ordered an item a year ago and I just informed them I never got it and they claim that it was out of stock even though its still in there catalog plain as day.
And then Canceled my order WTF, how bloody rude.

  • Back in stock again at Big W online! :-)
